Homepage "Site Menu" in iweb??

I am very familiar with Homepage and am trying to figure out iweb. I want to create a site called "Kitchens" which would list say ten different kitchens and various photos from those kitchens. If I had three pictures from each of the ten kitchens I'd upload the photos from iphoto, listing each kitchen name ("Johnson Kitchen", "Jones Kitchen", etc.) Then in Homepage I'd select "Site Menu" which would create a page showing a button from each of those ten kitchens which would link to the respective kitchen. I'd then place that page at the top so when the person selected "Kitchens" they would see a page showing ten buttons of each kitchen. Then selecting the "Johnson Kitchen" would take them to the page showing the three pictures of that kitchen. How do you do this in iweb? Any suggestions? thanks...

The way in which I have done this is to create a "blank" page and then drop photos onto it and enable them as hyperlinks, adding text as necessary. I think that I used the Welcome page as a template and deleted/minimized the fields I didnt want. Clicking on one of the images takes you to a Photo page that doesn't show in the navigation bar.
Other people have used the Photo page, and then placed images over those in they have added to the template. Then you send the template images to the back and enable the front ones as hyperlinks.
It really is your choice, with hindsight (mine is 20/20) I would have used the Photo page option, it gives you a nice neat layout without thinking about it!

  • Can I manage sites created by iWeb from a browser like I could w/Homepage?

If I remember correctly, one could manage the sites published to Homepage from any browser. Can I still do that with sites published by iWeb?
I publish a lot of photo pages and sometimes I need to make changes to them from work where I use a linux box. I miss that part of Homepage...

    RIP Homepage!
I think I will go to pBase for photo publishing from now on. It's the only other option for a clean uncluttered look for photo hosting. I sure will miss the easy workflow between iPhoto and iWeb though...

  • Problem with Flash Menu in iWeb...need help please.

Ok, I designed a flash menu in iWeb and successfully placed it at the top of the site. I then used the "transparent shape" method to make the hyperlinks work properly. I made sure the flash menu was in the back and the transparent shape hyperlinks were in the front. The menu works just fine for me and anyone else using Safari or Mac computers. However, people on Windows using Firefox, IE or Chrome are unsuccessful in clicking the links. They do not work for them.
Here's my website's homepage link. Keep in mind, if you look there on Safari, it will work but it does not when on a Windows computer. Any help is greatly appreciated.

It is clearly the problem that the flash menu is opening in front of the hyperlinked shapes but I'm not sure how to make sure they stay on front.

I don't know the answer to that one but you can use the Mouse Over and Click method I have described on this page....
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Tricks/MouseOver.html
    It works in IE.
Its just a question of making up two different buttons with text for each link, taking a screenshot and cropping them and adding the JPEGs to your upload folder.
You can make up the buttons on an iWeb page and then delete them when you have taken the screenshots. I usually do this sort of thing in Keynote so that I can save them in case I need to modify them.

  • HomePage (.Mac) incompatible with iWeb?

I've recently published a site on iWeb. And now when I go to my .Mac homepage, the pages I had previously published on HomePage, even though they still show up on the list, resolve to a "Sorry...We Can't Find This Page" deadend. Fooling around with a variety of things, I have drawn the conclusion that it's an either/or situation. If my most recently published site is iWeb, it works and the HomePage sites don't. And vice versa.
    Any wisdom out there?

No, this is not correct. iWeb will not affect previously published Homepages. Your Homepages are kept in your Sites folder on your iDisk; iWeb creates and publishes to a completely different folder named for the application.
If you can mount your iDisk and still see your pages in your Sites folder, then you can still visit them. It may be that you just entered the url incorrectly. To see exactly what is on your iDisk, use the Go menu in Finder and follow this path:
    Go>iDisk/MyiDisk/Sites/YourSitesAreHere to verify your Homepages
Go>iDisk/MyiDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/YourSitesAreHere to verify your iWeb pages
    The urls are:
homepage.mac.com/username/nameofsite for Homepages in the Sites folder.
web.mac.com/username/iWeb/nameofsite for iWeb pages in the iWeb folder.

  • Drop Down Menu in iWeb

Does anyone know how to create a drop down menu in iWeb 09? I need the idiots guide if possible!
    Thank you

you can't create drop down menu in iweb, you can get all the needed code from online site such as cssmenumaker.com
but i do not recommend just copy+paste the code into html snippet widget, because you will create static/dead zone behind the drop down area. the longer the drop down the larger dead zone.
it can be done though, you will need to know html, css, javascript and how iweb generates it code:
    http://iweb3widgets.cyclosaurus.com/DropDownNavBar/Drop_Down_Nav_Bar.html
note: apple, google and yahoo! are active links and fully functional behind the drop down area.

  • When i publish the website only the home page is live (site menu broken)

Help! I have created a basic site with about 4 pages and a blog. When I try to publish it (both on .mac and on own domain) only the home page is accessible. The site menu does not seem to be working.
    imac (2.16 ghz)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You used the automated publish to .Mac? You didn't publish to a folder and then copy to your idisk, did you?
If you publish to a folder, can you go into that folder and open the main page and navigate around? If not I'd say the whole thing is corrupt or something. I'm just asking if it works BEFORE you upload it to .Mac or a third party host.
Have you tried starting over? Or at least make a new site with two pages on it and see if you can go back and forth between the pages.
If you think it's corrupt and there is nothing else in iWeb I would delete the domain file from ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb before you start creating again.
Don't get mad at me for asking - you aren't trying to navigate around in iWeb are you? Mistaking it for a browser?? Sorry, had to ask.
Won't be back online for a few hours...

  • How to link the main site menu to an anchor on a subpage?

How to link the main site menu (masterpage) to an anchor possition on a subpage? Is that possible. I would like the the contact menu to link to specific anchors  location contact FAQ hours. The way I do it now. I have to create seperate html pages, I would rather do it on one page. Thanks

    Hello,
To link a website Menu to anchors on any page in the website, you need to create a manual menu using the Menu Widget. You can change Menu to a manual Menu by clicking on the white arrow in Blue Circle which comes up at the top right of the Menu (Menu properties) and select the Menu type as Manual. Please have a look at the screenshot below :
Now you can add change/add the text there and when you select the text/menu item then from the Hyperlink drpdown at the top in the toolbar, you can select the name of the anchor on any page of your website.
Anchors are listed in Hyperlink dropdown in this format - Page Name:Anchor Name.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Sachin

The simplest answer is to choose the language you work best with, and that fits the clients specification the best.
I have mixed server languages on a site before, (would not recommend) when a client has decided they wish to change from their old one to a new(er) /different one, the only thing you must watch if doing this, is that you do not mix languages on the same page (will not work correctly, if at all), and parameter passing.

  • Cannot get to old site designed on iWeb '08 via iWeb '09

    Hi there.
I recently upgraded to Leopard and iWeb '09. I had previously designed some webpages using iWeb '08 (or possibly '07) which have been dormant for a while and I now want to take offline and revise. The pages were hosted at web.mac.com/leighthompson.
When I first opened iWeb '09, my initial site didn't appear at all. I went ahead and designed a new site for a different purpose, thinking that my old one would be intact. It now seems not to exist as navigating to web.mac.com/leighthompson takes me to the new site (which is currently password protected).
Have I wiped my old site out by making my new one and hosting it on my .Mac account?
    With love and much respect.
    Leigh

Did you give your new site built in iWeb 09 a different name from the original one that you built in 08? If so, then your old site will still be there. Just go to http://web.me.com/username/sitename and if your site has a different name, then yes, you can still get to it.
If however you created a new site and gave it the same name as your previous site, then it will be gone - your have overwritten it with 09 by publishing. So when you go to web.me.com/username your new site comes up.
If you want more than one site in iWeb, remember to give them all different names and then you can still get to them by web.me.com/username/sitename.
As Old Toad has said - you need to find your old 08 domain file to be able to get your old site back. Find this at User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites. If you don't have this, then you need to re-build.

  • Site created on iWeb '08, but now only appears online, NOT in iWeb

I created a site on iWeb 08 and published it to web.me.com and to a folder (just in case!)
The site's currently viewable online, BUT now it's not in iWeb as one of my sites, so I can't make changes.
Anyone know if I can drag the site back into iWeb?

Welcome to the discussions. No, you can't drag the published site back into iWeb — only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.
    See also these Apple docs:

Recovering items using Time Machine and Spotlight
But Spotlight does not look in all areas of the hard drive. Download and run Find File to search for ".sites2".

  • How do i get an iweb 1.1 site loaded into iweb 2.0.2 for editing?

Hi. I have a site up on .mac that was built using iweb 1. I also have the source files on my mac. I gather that iWeb 2 uses a domain file to store all this information now.
Can you help me get my old iweb 1 site files loaded into iweb 2 so that i can edit and republish? The site is actually still live on .mac.
    Thank you for your help.

...And iWeb 1 used a domain file also. If you have it, iWeb 2 will be able to open your site made with iWeb 1 so you can continue development. If you no longer have it you'll have to rebuild your site manually. See this thread:

  • Retrieving uploaded web site to new iWeb 08

I recently did a clean install of my iBook G4 (for various reasons). I now have Leopard on both eMac and iBook. Before I did this I backed (using Backup) up my iLife 06 folder to .Mac. I have reinstalled iLife 06 and on my iBook and recently purchased iLife 08 for my eMac.
But, how do I get my web site back for editing? I've tried several ways on both computers with no luck. I want to redo the site anyway but would like to be able to use parts of the old site in the new site. The old site is still posted and working fine at .Mac.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The file you needed to backup was the domain.sites2 file that resides in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. If you don't have a copy of that file you'll need to reconstruct your site from scratch. iWeb cannot read or import html files, only create them.
This site has some tips in 2.3 on how you can use some of the file in the published site to rebuild the site: http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebBackupretrieve.html
