Homeplug connection

Hello
I have recently purchased a HP LaserJet 200 color MFP M276n and wanted to print to it wirelessly using a homeplug but cannot get it to connect to the network.
The orange light on the back of the printer next to the network cable is permanently on and the green light flashes one every 20 seconds or so. I have tried using all the tools on the HP help pages and cannot do half of the things it suggests as I cannot get access to the printer settings via the web address via internet explorer?
Everything else within the house works fine from the other homeplugs but all the other devices have asked for the router password to access iton initial set up but this printer does not seem to have that facility.
Any suggestions appreciated but keep it simple as I am not the best at this sort of thing but I normally manage to get by but this is the most challenging thing yet!

Hi @excaliber99,
I see by your post that you are unable to network the printer. I can help you.
I am not familiar with the Homeplugs, I looked it up though. If you have Mac filtering setup on this network, you would have to add the printer's Mac address. You can get this information from the Configuration report.
Printing a Configuration Report.
You would need a router to properly network the printer. The router assigns the IP address to the printer.
Installing the Printer Software on a Wireless or Wired (Ethernet) Network.
Your best bet, is to connect the printer directly to the computer by a USB cable.
Have a nice day!
Thank You.

  • E4200 connection dropped once homeplug connected

    HI,
I just installed a E4200, and found that once I connected my Homeplug Powerline to E4200, the connected (wired / wireless) computer (with E4200) connection will be dropped.  The connection become normal again once I disconnected the Homeplug with E4200.
Here is the error description from Cisco Connect: An HNAP call to the device failed because the HTTP connection was broken.
Does someone know what is going on? I will appreciate any comments & replies.
    Many thanks!

There might be some settings required in the router so that it gets the proper solution. If you are facing the concern of getting lag, dropped connections then you can try the following steps:
A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] On that same setup page reduce the MTU value to 1400 from Auto
4] Then go to the Wireless tab, keep network mode as mixed,
For Channel Settings of 2.4 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, 11..
For Channel Settings of 5 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 40 or 161...
B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the username field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.

  • Problem using Express over Ethernet via Solwise Gigabit Homeplug

I am hoping someone can help me here.
Similar problem with Tandie (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12175903&#12175903). I have a Vista PC which has no problem at all to connect to my Express over ethernet. I use my Express to "Create new wireless" network and stream my itunes over ethernet, which works well if I have a cable connected to the Express to my network where my Vista PC is connected.
However, when I take my Express to another room and connect it to a Solwise Gigabit Homeplug and my other homeplug connects to my network I then seem to have problems. The homeplug works perfectly with my PS3, but my Express after about 2 hours itunes and Airport Utility is unable to find it. I can however ping the Express, but that is it.
Here's how I configured the AX:
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = unique name different to my Wireless BT Hub
    Radio Mode = 802.11n (802.11b/g compatible)
    Channel = Automatic
    Click the Internet icon
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Share a public IP address
    AX Firmware ver: 7.4.2

This would be the correct setting if your AirPort Express is connected directly to a simple modem (a simple modem has only 1 ethernet port)
If you have the Express connected back to another router (it will have 3-4 ethernet ports), then the correct setting for Connection Sharing would be "Off (Bridge Mode)"
I can't say if this will solve your problem. If you continue to have issues, then test using an ethernet cable from the Express back to your main router. If this works well, then one or both of the powerline products is suspect.

  • HH4 homeplug issue

    hi,
I had my hh4 installed today.  everything has to run off wifi because of the location of my master bt socket.
my pc and laptop connect fine wirelessly, but as soon as i plug in my homeplug (delovo dLan 500 duo) the wifi disappears?
The homeplug is supposed to enable both my xbox 360 and Humax youview box to connect, but I can't find a way to get the homeplugged connection to work at the same time as the wifi.  seems I can only have one or the other.
    Any suggestions please?

I presume you have two homeplugs.
Turn on the one that is connected to the homehub while the other one is turned off. Does the wireless signal drop out?
If not then turn on the other one. Does the signal now drop out?
If yes then swap the homeplugs over ie. plug the second one into the homehub and the one which was in the homehub connect to your device and repeat the process. Does the signal drop out again when the same homeplug is switched on?
If when you switch the first one that is connected to the homehub on and the signal drops out, swap them over as above. This should help in trying to establish if one is faulty.
It would be easier if you had another home plug to swap one out at a time but as I presume you don't this is the only way I can think of to try and check them.
I should have added that I know they are working via Ethernet but it is to try and establish if they are causing interference that is causing your wireless to drop out.

  • Devices plugged into Homeplug can recieve IP but a...

My current setup is this;  BT Home Hub 2.0 in main "Office", several ethernet devices connected to Home Hub via 1Gb Switch, these all recieve IP addresses and are listed on the DHCP table.
I then have a Zyxel Homeplug connected to the same 1Gb Switch and the other HomePlug downstairs, the downstairs homeplug is connected to another 1Gb switch for my Xbox, FreeSat HD box, Media Streamer and Laptop.
My problem is that the devices downstairs all recieve IP addresses but are not displayed in the DHCP table so I cant apply Xbox Live setting to IP 192.168.1.66 as IP 1.66 is not listed on the DHCP table.
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers
    Steve

It's been too long since I've seen 10.2 to give you tips on it's mail config....
The main issue you may have is that your router probably doesn't support loopback. This page has a good explanation:
    http://www.dyndns.com/support/kb/loopback_connections.html
You can use /etc/hosts as described in the article if the machines stay in the office. Another solution is to change your router to one which does support loopback.

  • Help Required Setting up a Network with 2 Wireless Routers

My network is based on 2 hubs:
    Room 1 - Main Hub
Phone socket (where line enters my house)
    Modem
    WRT610N router
Homeplug connected by ethernet cable to router
    Room 2 - Media Centre
    Homeplug
    Netgear DG834G v1
Room 2 includes a NAS and media streamer wired to the DG834G, which as I understand it still need to talk via the WRT610N. I'd like to upgrade my network further and remove the weakest point (currently Homeplugs) and therefore improve connectivity between hub 1 and 2. In upgrading, I want everytthing to have gigabit ethernet ports, but for the 2 hubs to be connected only via wireless link (wired link may be possible in long term, but not at present).
I have already taken the step of purchasing a 2nd WRT610N, but am now unsure if the link can be established between the 2 of them without using a cable connection. Does anyone know if/ how this can be achieved, or do I need to buy something else?

Linksys firmware does not have feature to make the router work as an wireless access point. You can try the dd-wrt firmware. For more information about that, you can visit www.dd-wrt firmware.
You have two alternative here..First is Wireless Bridge(WET610N),which will communicate with the router wirelessly and it it will provide the LAN Connection further. You can connect a switch to the bridge and all other devices hard-wired to the bridge to get connection...However,it will not give you the Wireless Signal.
The Seconds alternative in my opinion is an Access Point(WAP4410N)...Which will receive the wireless signal from your router and will repeat the signal wirelessly to your Wireless devices if set in a Repeater Mode.

  • IPlayer no longer loading / playing

Two weeks ago my iPlayer connection from the Goodmans set-top box suddenly decided not to 'play'. I went through the usual sequence of a power off/on reset of the TV, set-top box, HomePlug adapter, BT HomeHub router
All other connections in the house, both wired and wireless work OK
Connected to the set-top box and loaded the iPlayer option, chose a film to view, it went off to say loading but hung
Gave it a day or so and tried again no joy
(Couldn't have anything to do with the BT router could it? - everything else was working as before)
So process of elimination started ................
    1. Replaced Goodmans set-top box (3 years old) with Humax 'Smart' Freesat box - extravagent but justified as it turns my TV into a 'Smart' TV. Connected up the new box, verified an IP address via DHCP, clicked on iPlayer, picked a programme to download, response - loading .........................................................................................
    2. So not the set-top boxes giving problem
    3. Swapped HomePlug unit with another on which I knew was working e.g. passing packets including a video stream from an IP camera - no joy
    4. Plugged my laptop into the HomePlug adapter and ran iPlayer application from the BBC web site - chose a film to download to watch - perfect reception, no problem with it running over the network from the laptop
    5. I decided to eliminate the HomePlug connection by plugging in a Cat5 cable directly from the 'new' set-top box directly into a lan port on the BT router - messy but last option of elimination process
    6. Ran up iPlayer, via the TV and 'new' Smart set-top box, chose a film to watch, loading .................................
    7. Must be the high performance, state-of-the-art, BT router. Ran diagnostic checks, all looked OK. The Humax set-top box was there along with a PC, laptop, IP camera and various mobile phones. I did notice that a couple of times the Humax set-top box disappeared off the network plan while the PC (both connected on the HomePlug network) stayed on consistently
    8. Last resort (should have done it in the first place) - check the firewall
    9. Guess what, the BT router's firewall has decided 'out of the blue' to block any packets relating to iPlayer or ITV player
    "15:04:27, 26 Dec
OUT: BLOCK [9] Packet invalid in connection (TCP 192.168.0.4:42854->83.222.237.181:443 on ppp1)"
    10. It doesn't block packets from my laptop that I plug in to the HomePlug adapter port so why is it blocking the request packets from the set-top box?
    11. So thats two set-top boxes from different manufacturers that it rejects

    Same as me!
Goodmans freesat box, bt Homehub 5.
Thanks bt. No iplayer over Christmas, and still not working.
Not to mention the 2 hours of my valuable time trying to find the cause.
No replies apart from this one.......
    WELL DONE BT!!!!!

  • Airport Express to extend wifi

I wonder if some kind person can please help as I am tearing my hair out trying to set up an extension to our wifi.
We live in a barn and the BT Home Hub 4 is unmovable at one end of the barn, therefore the wifi is sketchy at the other, where the office is.
I have BT infinity connected by their white modem/router and the BTHH4.  From there I have a 500ps TP Homeplug connected to the BTHH4 and the other in the office connected to one Mac.  This works ok but as we have two Macs and a wifi printer so I also have a Huawei repeater which gives wifi to those.
The repeater acts ok but is not stable and frequently the printer and Macs lose connectivity so I wanted to boost this by replacing the repeater with an AirPort Express.
Try as I might, when I connect it to the Mac it gives an error message on setup (Lion).
I have managed to get a green light on the AE when setting up via Iphone but as soon as I do that, it disappears from the Iphone and I lose all my internet.  It must be something I am doing wrong in the setup/configuration and would really appreciate some step by step help.
    Thanks.

The repeater acts ok but is not stable and frequently the printer and Macs lose connectivity so I wanted to boost this by replacing the repeater with an AirPort Express.
You are not doing anything wrong. The AirPort Express is not compatible with products from other manufacturers for the purpose that you are trying to achieve.
The Express will only "exend" or "repeat" a signal from another Apple wireless router.

  • Powerline adapter help!!!!!!!!!

    Hi all,
First time here. So, ive got bt vision and broadband. The vision uses the old white comtrend powerline adapters. Ive just received two new (black) ones, and want to add one or both to my network for my son to use his xbox online. Ive found a couple of links with info on how to add new ones but with no luck. So just want to A. clarify that the new type will work with the old (black work with white) and B. Hope that someone knows how.
Thanks in advance for any info

    What speeds are the homeplugs?
Am I right in thinking the Comtrend ones are 200Mbps?
85Mbps models will 'talk' to 14Mbps ones but not to 200Mbps units.
If the black pair are 85Mbps then it will work if you connect the XBox to one and the other one to the router. You will of course have 2 homeplugs connected to the router but at least that's a way round it.

  • Cannot view let alone access time capsule across a switched network!

    BACKGROUND:
I have recently re-configured my network at home - a rather complex one with a TC at the heart and a
DSL modem directly connected to it. The TC is acting as my central DHCP server. In order to have adequate coverage, I have had to extend my network via Netgear and Conceptronics wireless routers/switches through HomePlugs connected to the TC ethernet ports. The Netgear WNR2000 is setup as a wireless repeater and the Conceptronics as a wireless bridge.
    THE PROBLEM:
Internet connectivity is available everywhere - whether I connect via wifi to the TC, Netgear or Conceptronics. However, the TC is only accessible via the Airport Utility or its disks viewable (via MACs or Windows7 laptops) if I connect to the TC wifi. Whenever I connect via wifi to the Netgear or Conceptronics, I can ALWAYS access the internet but NEVER the TC.
    HELP!!

You can simply reset the TC to factory and start over.. I have no idea why it isn't working.. but a reset will help you determine if it is a hardware issue.
    The Factory Reset universal
Unplug your TC/AE. Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. The time is not important.. it is the front LED rapid flashing that indicates you are in factory mode.
    Release reset.
If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have released reset at some point and try again.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
If the computer is not handling the TC properly..
    After the reset..
    1. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only.. it is probably set to auto.. this is not good enough when things get messed.
    2. Do the setup but do not accept apple names.. change to smb names.. because Mavericks is now using SMB protocol by default..
To make that simple.. it means.
Names are short. 10-20 characters is plenty.. less than 10 even better.. eg base station name.. TCgenx (where x is the actual number of the gen).
    Wireless name is TCwifi.
Security for wireless is WPA2 personal.. password is 10-20 characters pure alphanumeric mix of case and numbers.
    3. Reset TM and setup again to the new TC location.
    A4 here. http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
More issues the TC could be faulty.. the latest TC is not hugely reliable.
You can do the setup in full isolation from the network if you like.

  • How big is new Time Capsule Wi-Fi distance?

I am thinking about getting a Time Capsule but I am worried shall I can catch the Wi-Fi from iPhone on 3th floor, iMac on 2th floor if the time Capsule would be in 1th floor! I have concrete floor.

Highly unlikely.. concrete can completely block wifi depending on the thickness and reinforcing in it.
Some people get better wifi range out of the new model.. lots get no difference and some worse.. assume the worst case that you will get no improvement whatsoever.
You need a wireless access point.. WAP on 1st floor and one on the second floor and one on the 3rd floor.. all tied back to 1st floor or wherever the main modem is by ethernet or at worst EOP type homeplug connections.

  • Using HH 5 with ASUS RT-AC56U

Brother is having issues with signal dropping out on his HH so purchased a second router to to help. I went and tried to set it up to work with his HH but with no success - The asus was never able to connect to the internet anyone had any experience of these two products working together? Also another issue was that the Asus kept dropping the router password and was requiring a factory reset with variable degrees of success
    Thanks
    Kenny

Good article about wifi and optimising it
    http://www.increasebroadbandspeed.co.uk/2014/wifi-optimisation
not sure how things will work with Asus connected to the HH in terms of wifi, but might be OK assuming you are going to set it up with a separate wifi network?
I would still suspect the signal drop might now be wifi and might be the BT fibre connection - to their servers - be intereted to see how you get on.
I have utilised homeplugs to reduce the load on my wifi network - very happy with them, my sky box and smart TV's use homeplug connections.

  • Weird printer problem using Express, Vista and Dell

I have a new Dell Inspiron 1525 running Vista Home Premium. I have a Brother printer hooked up to my Express. Set up printer via Bonjour w/o problems. Computer recognizes the printer and seems to send info to it. But when I try to print, it only prints the first few lines and then just stops. Won't print anything else. And if I try to print another document, it does nothing at all (doesn't even print the first few lines). Tried with an HP printer and got the same results. Have uninstalled and reinstalled printer many times with same results. Already downloaded updated drivers for printer.
Express works fine otherwise (connects to the Net, streams music from iTunes). But when connected to my old laptop that ran XP, suddenly stopped printing wirelessly (would print nothing at all). I wrote it off to computer problems at the time. Now I wonder if the printer connection on the Express is malfunctioning even though the rest of it is working fine.
    Help please -- anyone! Thanks.

However, when I take my Express to another room and connect it to a Solwise Gigabit Homeplug and my other homeplug connects to my network I then seem to have problems.

  • SE2500 - Single LAN source to Several Devices.

Hi Cisco team, quick question for you.
I wish to connect my PS3 and Sony home theatre system via LAN in my lounge which is beyond the reach of my broadband router wifi strength. So I have a homeplug connection giving LAN over mains connection.
Should a Linksys SE2500 Ethernet Switch be able to then provide that single LAN source to several devices incl my PS3, Blu-Ray home theatre and TV directly?

A switch is a device that is considered to be the central point of connection for computers and other devices in a network. This allows data to be shared at full transmission speeds. A data switch connects computing devices to host computers.
So the connectivity should be from Modem to Router and then Router should be connected with the SE2500. Last of all SE2500 will provide the internet connection to all the devices connected..

Have had BT infinity for a week now, and my xbox will not connect to x box live. Have done everything that I can accordindg to the information given on the xbox live website and here on Bt and still it will not connect........I am connecting to the router through the mains using two powerline adapters. It was working perfectly on the Bt home hub 2. But I am getting to the stage where I will have to change my router......... Any one had the same problem and managed to fix it????? If so all help welcome.

Thanks for the reply. the homeplugs connect to the HH3, when you run the test from the Xbox it shows the network connection is ok but that there is no connection to the internet. Have done a reset on the xbox ....still no connection. Funny thing is i booted up the xbox and it connected to xbox live and I was able to play Battlefield 3 for about 5 minutes before the connection was lost!! Very random. I am going to substitute the homeplugs as a next step but I am still no nearer understanding what is going on.
