Homesharing fails on apple tv

Recently at least one of my apple tv's continue to fail using the home sharing, such that I cannot complete watching a movie without homesharing failing.
The signal strength is fine, and i have to manually turn on and off home sharing in itunes to restart the service. 5-10 minutes later, apple tv loses its connection to "home sharing" and I have to start over.
The trouble shooting is very clear in what to do, but essentially I have to continually disable and re-enable homeshare, which gets frustrating. Are there alternative solutions to this? Is this a bug?
I'd greatly appreciate any help on this.

Hmm, is iTunes running every time you try to access your library from ATV? If your ATV doesn't see your Home Share libraries, ATV will tell you turn on HS. If iTunes is running with Home Sharing enabled, ATV should see it as soon as you wake ATV.

I have a problem with my apple TV 1st Generation.
I did a Factory Restore and now i have
Software Version 2.0.2
Software Build 120
OS Build Version 8N5461
EFI Version 00DA.B04
GF Version 3.1.0/2.9.50
I wanna upgrade the Apple TV to Software Version 3.0.2 which is the last but all i get after downloading and installing the update is the same message
Update failed. Apple tv could not be updated. Make a Factory Restore
I have made over 20 Factory Restores but the same message all the time.
I changed the dns server to 8.8.8.8 and 208.067.222.222 but no luck with any of these solutions.
Can somebody help me please, so i can update my Apple TV.

The most annoying thing is that it downloads the update and when it starts installation of 3.0.2 then the message appears.
Can this be Apple's servers problem or Apple's TV problem?

Is "[failed] com.apple.xprotectupdater.plist" an error that I have to correct ?

This is a fairly basic daemon that should instruct the launcher to open the /usr/libexec/XProtectUpdater utility every 24 hours. You can try loading it manually by running the following command in the Terminal utility (provide your password when prompted--it will not be displayed):
sudo launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.xprotectupdater.plist
The daemon's contents should look like the following text, so locate it in the System > Library > LaunchDaemons folder and compare its contents to the following:

Homesharing: fail to synch music between iPad3, iMac 10.5.8 with iTunes 10.6.1, and iBook on 10.4.11 and iTunes 9.

I would love some ideas: Cannot get home-sharing to show me any existing iTunes content stored on either of the computers, on my new iPad. Homeshare works between the two comps, (and Apple TV, although unreliably.) Aware of the need to use one identical user ID to sign in to all and iTunes. MacBook currently on OS 10.4.11 with iTunes 9, an iMac OSX 10.5.8 w/iTunes 10.6.1. iPad 3. My last resorts are to buy Snow Leopard x 2, Buy Lion x 2, and then move to iCloud (losing my iWeb maintenance - disappointed - is Apple giving up all web maintenance capability - or is there an alternative iI am missing?) and then after iCloud move, "hope" that it can all interact better - but not sure why.
Currently the iPad can "see" that the iMac homeshare is there - if I click on the 'more' option, then folllow the 'shared' and select iMac all I see after the spinning wheel is a blank grey screen with iMac written at the top, and a few icons in top and bottom bars. I have tried resetting the iPad, switching the server and computers all off and changing user ID and passwords to all synch. No luck yet. Any ideas?

1. Yes, you need to buy a new OS. Mac OS X 10.6 requires a Mac with an Intel CPU and at least 1GB of RAM.
2. It won't erase your files unless a problem occurs. Back up everything anyway; this can be done with Time Machine or by creating a bootable clone, and requires an external drive.

Can anyone help. I bought apple tv yesterday, but everytime I enter my apple id on the screen of apple TV it says not recognised. it is working on all other devices, including 'homeshare' on itunes. Is there something in windows 7 is the problem?

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
Restart your mobile device.

"Connect as..." option in Finder fails using "Apple ID"

Hi,
I've got a problem that's been bugging me for a very long time and I'm stumped as to what might be the issue.
Both my Desktop and Laptop are logged in to iCloud with the same Apple ID, both are running the most recent version of Yosemite, and both are on my home WiFi network managed by a Time Capsule with UPnP turned on.
When I open a Finder window on the Laptop, choose the Desktop in the side bar under Shared and choose "Connect As...", then select "Using an Apple ID", the dialog box shakes "No". I had Console running while this happens, and it spits out the following three lines:

Doing the same thing the other way around, connecting to my Laptop from the Desktop, everything connects right away, so it's clearly something wrong with the Laptop, though I'm stumped as to what it is.

Every time I've posted a question, I try to be as thorough as possible to make sure I'm not wasting someone else's time by giving me information that either I've tried or takes me down a path to a solution tangental to my actual problem.
Every time, I fail.
Yes, I have tried logging in with a user account instead of the Apple ID. Yes, it does work. Thank you for your suggestion, but my ability to log in at all is not the issue.
If you've got any other suggestions to help me with my Apple ID not working, I'm happy to try them out.

HT1926 Installation fails because Apple Mobile Device Service failed to start?

When I attempted to update ITunes, it failed at the starting services point because "Apple Mobile Device Service failed to start". The ignore button would not work. Retry did not fix it. I have deleted all ITunes from my computer, restarted, and attempted a new install. Same problem. Help.

The frequently suggested repair steps listed in comments at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926 did not work for me yesterday when I attempted for an entire day to fix this commonly reported problem with the newest iTunes update. I now realize that I overlooked one step listed in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923.
My computer has a Windows 64 bit operating system. I should have paid attention to this instruction:
"If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, you'll need to confirm that the following folders have been removed:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Bonjour
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\
C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\
C:\Program Files (x86)\iPod\ "
Tonight, I removed those previous version files from the Program Files (x86) directory and executed the rest of the steps listed. Success resulted. If you are struggling like I did to install the iTunes newest update on a Windows 64 bit operating system, you might benefit to recheck that you followed the instruction listed above.

Homesharing mac and apple tv and other pcs

I recently deauthorised my mac the reauthorized. It now wont connect to homesharing despite all pcs and apple tv showing correct apple id etc. I've tried obvious stuff like turning homesharing on and off resetting apple tv etc but the units wont recognize each other. The apple account summary shows the correct no of authorized computers - I'm wondering I'd be better off setting up a new apple id?

I doubt setting up a new Apple ID will solve the problem. If you are going to take that approach try de-authorizing all devices first and then add them all back.
Just for the record. You can have up to ten (10) devices authorized. Only five (5) can be computers and Apple TVs do not count against that limit.

TS2972 the homesharing on my apple tv works for about 5 minutes then stops working

I had to have my the hard drive on my computer reformatted and then reload all the programs. Since then when I pull up pictures on my TV through Homesharing, it works for about 5 minutes and then disconnects. I have extended the time until the screen saver comes on and the time for the computer to go to sleep, but it does not seem to make any difference.
Any ideas?

When I originally bought my iMac I also bought Works, then my hard drive failed and I had apple replace it but when I got my computer back no Works what are my oppitions or am I SOL?

Where did you purchase iWorks from? If it was on a disk use the disk to reisntall iWorks. If you purchased it from the App Store you should be able to log into the App Store with the same Apple ID that you used to purchase the iMac and original iWorks and download it again but for free.

Call failed using Apple Watch

Hello,
I have a problem with my apple watch. I am unable to make or receive a phone call with the watch. If I try to make a phone call, the calls always fail and when there is an incoming call the watch rings but when I try to answer it fails again.
The problem started after I upgraded my iPhone 6 from 8.2 to 8.3. I was working fine when the phone was in 8.2.
I tried to restart and reset both devices. I even erased the watch and configured it again but with no luck.
Can someone help me with this?

Mac App Store login fails, but Apple ID/password is correct.

OK, I just went to get an App, and login failed repeatedly (5 times). In between, I went to iTunes and opened up my account info, which required login, which worked. Same on iCloud on my browser.
Now, I go back about 10 minutes later, and now suddenly the Mac App Store login works.
Weird.
