Homesharing from PC to iTunes

i just updated to the new itunes version 11.1.1 on both my mac and on the pc computer and now i cant use home sharing. both computers are authorised and using the same apple id. my mac library comes up on the pc but no music will show. i want to move my music from my pc to mac! help!

I belive what is happenning iTunes does not support anything on your computer besides apple products.
You can not upload a movie or music from your PC to iTunes. Its not made for that.

Recently lost the ability to Stream Video using homesharing from Macbook to apple tv (2nd Gen). Audio still streams normally.

I use my Macbook to regularily download a video podcast overnight and then use Homesharing to stream it to my apple TV in the morning. Within the past couple weeks that function has stopped working properly. I get the spinning wheel from my Apple TV as it trys to stream or buffer the video file but it never loads. Audio files on the other hand still work perfectly fine.
I've opened the TCP and UDP ports on my router and tried a different router thinking that was the problem to no avail.
Any Suggestions?

I believe what I'm reffering to is homesharing but please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm using the "Computers" app on the apple TV to stream Podcasts from my macbook Itunes Library.

The video files im referring too are TV shows, movies and podcasts all streamed from my macbooks itunes library.

(Hopefully this is the correct forum.)
So I have both computers set on the "Homesharing on" option in iTunes and I also have it set under "sharing" to make it possible to share music across my networs. According to iTunes, both computers are connected to each other. However, there is not the "Sharing" button in the left-hand collumn of the iTunes page anymore. (This went away after I downloaded the new version of iTunes a few days ago.) The "Sharing" button is not present on my other computer either.
I have gone through all of the help topics throughout the Apple website and on the iTunes help pages, but I have not been able to find anything. Does anyone have ideas on what could is happening and how I can fix it? Please and thank you.

apps don't show up/cross over via home sharing, yet there is a way to get from one to another. On second computer open iTunes, click store, log into your account using your apple ID, on right hand side of the iTunes store home page under "quicklinks" click "purchased", it'll bring up a window where it shows everything purchased with that apple ID (i.e. apps, books, tv shows, and music). Click on the "app" tab and on the upper right hand side click either "all" or "not in my library". Find the app (or search for it) and click either the "cloud" icon under the app, OR click "download all" in the lower right. There ya go, that should now have ALL your purchased apps onto the new computer; as long as it under the same apple ID.

It's a straightforward port-forwarding issue.
You need to forward ports to the internal ip address of your apple tv as follows:
TCP 123
TCP 3689
UDP 5353
TCP 80
TCP 4343
TCP 53
This may also solve other problems you may have with homesharing...

Homesharing has nothing to do with syncing content to devices.
Connect the device to the computer.
Select the content desired to sync.
Then sync.
This is covered in the User's Guide, might be a good idea to read it.

I have upgraded my computer and am in the process of importing the music, apps, audiobooks, etc from my old computer & iTunes library to my new computer. I am using the HomeShare feature to do the import and it has worked flawlessly for everything except ringtones. When I access my ringtones in the old library, the "Import" button does NOT appear in the lower right hand corner like it does for music, apps, etc. So, how then do I transfer my ringtone library from the old iTunes library to the new one??? Yes. I would clarify your statement about the "shared" iTunes Library though. If you want each iOS device to have its own music library, you should create separate user accounts for them. Read:

First of all what PC type do you have, then what IOS are you running and finally what Itunes are you running.

Go back to iTunes, select the Music tab, uncheck the 'sync music; button, then hit apply.

If both accounts are authorised on your computer's iTunes (Store > Authorise This Computer) then you can download the books from both accounts to there (download the books from one account, then sign out of it via Store > Sign Out, log in with the other account via Store > Sign In and download the books from the other account), and sync them over to the iPad's iBooks app via the Books tab.
Or you might be able to sign out of your account on the iPad by tapping on it Settings > Store and sign in with the other account and download the books from that account - I think that it should work, but it's not something that I've tried so I'm not 100% sure that it will

I am trying to put together a slide show for a trip my wife and I took to England. I would like to be able to use music from both our itunes libraries in the slide show. I am using Aperture to create the slide show since it seems to be more versatile than iPhoto for this. Only trouble is that when I log into my username on the iMac I only see my iTunes library and similar when logging into her username. We have different music but would like to use some from each library in the slide show.

You can only use one library at a time in an Aperture slideshow, so I'd suggest to simply collect the audio that you want to use in a folder (export the songs from both iTunes Libraries) and then import this folder to Aperture. Now you have a project containing the audio files; you will see it in the Aperture Audio section of the audio Browser, right above the iTunes section.
You can use the Apperture audio just like the audio in iTunes to drag to the timeline of your slideshow.

Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive
For the future, keep in mind that an iPod is not a backup/storage device. It is designed to be strictly a playback device. It is up to you to backup your personal data, including music, to a local, external HDD.
