  • Homesharing with windows 7

I have a windows 7 computer and am trying to share between it and iPad 2, iPod 4th Gen and Apple TV.  Each item will access the internet, but none of them will talk to each other.  The only way to get anything onto Apple TV is to connect by ethernet to the router/hub.  Pad/Pod & TV are updated for the latest software and itunes is the latest version.
The only common feature is the router but I don't understand why it TV can be seen if connected by cable.
I'm fairly new to connecting stuff up with wireless so any answers in the most basic terms appreciated.
    Thanks

As far as I can tell you've configured your wireless network correctly since you say each device can access the Internet.
Now, just to be clear about the capabilities you will have once this all works.
Your Apple TV, iPod and iPad will be able to stream media from your iTunes Library using Home Sharing.
You will be able to remote control the Apple TV or iTunes computer with the iPod or iPad if you have the Remote app installed on them.
You will be able to use AirPlay from your iPad and iPod to stream content to your Apple TV.
One thing I've noticed with some people is that they are not aware of the proper place to turn on Home Sharing. See the screen shot below to see the proper place to turn on Home Sharing.
If you want to share your iTunes library with friends when they come over without giving them your Apple ID and password you can also turn on Library Sharing in the iTunes Preference pane. See below.
Library sharing only works computer to computer. It will not allow an Apple TV, iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to access the shared library.

  • I am really disappointed with iTunes 11. Stop making things SIMPLER!!!

This is the first software upgrade that has really disappointed me in the 15 years of owning Apple product. I use iTunes to manage my music that is used for my DJ software. Traktor. Now I can't have 2 playlists open at the same time, so it's impossible to compare. I might have 4 different remixes of the same track and I need to easily compare to see if a track is in both playlists and it just cant be done. Here are some of the things I dislike about iTunes 11.
You can't open more than one playlist.
If you are using homesharing, you can't show only "song not on this computer" when you want to import tracks. And of course, I can't see if they are on my computer while having the homeshared library window open.
You can no longer rate songs by using the remote app on the iPhone. It works with the iPad.
Thank goodness I waited to upgrade iTunes on my iMac before I discovered all of these missing features. I now have to do my "power-user" chores on my old 2007 iMac and then have my new MBPro upgrade the playlists thru iTunes match.
I get that Apple is trying to make things simple for a broad range of people, but by doing this to iTunes, which is the SOLE method of handling my music library with my 3 computers, and 2 iOS devices. I need the flexability of the power features.
Maybe Apple can make a professional version of iTunes. Much like Apature to iPhoto, or Logic Pro to Garage Band. I'd be very happy to have a more powerful music player. Maybe one that shows the waveform of the song that is playing, so you can quickly jump to a certain section. Or give us the ability to color the track much like labels in the finder. I often want to select several songs in one playlist to create another playlist and having the ability to color-code them as I'm auditioning the song would really help in the organizational process. I find myself using the finder, quick-view and labels often for this chore.
And how about a genre organizer so it would be easy to change or combine the 4 versions of R&B that show up on my genre list.
    Gimme iTunes Pro!!!

I don't know man I too hope apple will do something this new I-tunes blow my top lost my whole tune!!!

  • Home sharing works okay for iPad 2 and iPod Touch 4, but Touch 5 only shares music??

So, just like I said.  What is going on?
iTunes library is on a Windows 7 PC.  all my devices are logged into the same Apple ID for homesharing.  Windows 7 laptop can share everything, iPad 2 can share everything, iPod Touch 4 can share everything... but iPod Touch 5 only shares music.  The video app only shows the videos that are synced onto the iPod.  doesn't have the 'more' tab to select the shared library like it's supposed to.
I just hooked up a new linksys router. I don't know if the issue was going on before and I never noticed, or if it's new with the router. But the fact that it works with all but this one device makes me think it isn't the router setup.

Nvm. Disabled my firewall to my avail. Thanks for everyone.

  • Apple TV and Windows 8.1 homeshare doesnt work

For years, my computer and apple tv used to work without any issues.  nothing has changed on my network recently.  I was able to use home sharing last week, then this weekend I was going to watch one of my tv shows and my apple tv is saying my windows pc doesnt have homesharing on.
I turned it off and on (both the apple tv and pc) and its still not working.  I have done everything from rebooting to restarting the atv, rebooting my apple extreme router...
I have read several times all the knowledge bases to see if something has escaped me but I don't know what is broken or what broke.
Can someone give me some advise?

    Brenden,
First thank you for responding.  I guess I'll need to explore the iTunes store because what I was looking to do was stream TV shows (similarly as I do with Hulu) or You Tube.  If I can accomplish that through iTunes then this is a solution I can adapt to.

  • I can't link my homesharing to my apple tv. i'm on windows 7. is that the problem?

Can anyone help. I bought apple tv yesterday, but everytime I enter my apple id on the screen of apple TV it says not recognised. it is working on all other devices, including 'homeshare' on itunes. Is there something in windows 7 is the problem?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    Restart your mobile device.

  • Homeshare: iTunes library loads into my new PC. Then disappears. (Windows 8). Any suggestions?

Hi. I'm able to, via homeshare, load my iTunes library into my new laptop. It's all there. Then when I leave and come back to it even a minute later, it's gone. The machine runs on Windows 8 (which is garbage, by the way).
    Any suggestions?

  • ITunes 10/Homesharing not working between my Mac and Windows computers

Can see my three libraries but cannot drag and drop between the Mac iTunes and my two Windows iTunes libraries. Windows libraries can drag and drop between each other. Have tried to turn homesharing on and off. Have deauthorirized and authorized again also. Please help.

I'm having similar problems too and have been scouring the net for the past few hours with no luck in finding a solution. Right now on my home network I have 3 machines that have iTunes installed (all the latest version), my MacBook Pro running 10.6.3, my wife's Mac Mini running 10.6.4, and our HTPC running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. My MacBook Pro and PC have no problem using Home Sharing but the Mac Mini refuses to co-operate. The only way I can get it to see any other libraries, or for it to share it's own library, is to turn on network sharing. This works, but it isn't as nice as Home Sharing (when Home Sharing works that is :P ) I've followed all the instructions listed on Apple's site to enable Home Sharing on all the machines. Obviously I've done something right as the MBP and PC talk fine. The only thing I can think of is that it has something to do with 10.6.4. If anyone has any suggestions I am certainly open to hearing them.

  • When I try to do homeshare from my Mac to my new windows laptop my laptop won't detect my library. Why?

I got a new laptop for college and all my music is on my computer at home.  I came home this weekend expeting to be able to use homeshare to transfer my music to my laptop.  I went through step by step how to start homeshare from the apple website and my computer (which is a Mac) detected the library of the few songs from my laptop through homeshare, but my laptop (which is not a Mac) will not detect the library from my computer making it impossible to do what I want to do? Why will it not load my computer's library on my laptop but it will load my laptop's library on my computer?

    Hi there,

  • Cannot get homesharing to work on Apple TV and Windows Computer?

I have set up my appletv, turned on homesharing in itunes and have the apple id working.  The network on my pc and the appletv work with other features.  When the appletv tries to access my library (which it recognizes) it times out.  What can i do?

How do I change my firewall.  I have been using itunes for a long time and I was always able to download, and all of the other features on my appletv which are on the network seem to work.  What do I look at and where to modify my firewall?

  • Can't homeshare with atv on windows

  • I recently upgraded to Fios Quantum and have a new ActionTech router. As a result my PC is no longer communicating with my APPLE TV.It must have a firewall or ports beegin blocked preventing the homesharing and communication even though the APPLE TV is on

I recently upgraded to Verizon Fios Quantum high speed internet and was given an ActionTec router. I sucessfully installed all and connected wth my Apple TV. Although it worked initially it no longer does.  Something appears to be blocking  the Homesharing between my PC and the AppleTV even though the Apple TV is successfully connected to my home network. I spoke with an Apple Support Tech who was unable to help me becuase I have a PC! He admitted this is a common problem with FIOS and PCS. There must be a port that needs to be opened in the router. I do not beleive it is anything to do with my antivirus software or Windows Defender as i uninstalled all and still not communication. Must be a port within the routter that is blocking tis communication. On my Itunes you can see that it does not see the Apple TV. Please advise.

I'd have to agree. I set my vms and two clients on Saturday in one hour. I think the picture is better I did not see an issue with the brightness. For the heck of it I recorded five channels at once to test it. I've also noticed when playing a recorded show on the client everything responds a lot quicker. So I am impressed and curious to see what new features come later.
    Kudos to verizon.

  • My apple tv is not working on the computer tab as it says to turn on homesharing and it is on

my apple tv says to turn on homesharing which it already is
i am unable to access the photos in the computer tab
    any suggestions
    thanks
i have restarted and returned on both computer and apple tv btw

After hours of trying to fix- finally found simple solution !
Go to the main computer(s) where you ahve your itunes program. This applies to PC Win7 in my case.
Upper left hand corner under 'File' See drop down menu where it says " Home Sharing'. If on turn it off , then go right back and turn it on- you will have to sign in with Apple ID and password.
    Then -this is the solution.
Go to your My computer on your PC - hit button for it to shows all your drives. Click on your main drive - usually 'C". It will show all the stuff on that drive.
Find where your Itunes program is - usually under "programs" Once you find Itunes , right click to get drop down menu- at bottom is "Properties" right click. another small windows comes up - click tab for sharing . If it says not shard - you will see a blue highlighed  " Advanced Sharing" click that to folow instructions to enable sharing.
Do that for any program you want to share with Apple TV.
If they are not set to "Share" Apple Tv will not work for Home Sharing.
Once all programs involved with Ituenes etc are set to shared . Then go to Apple TV. back to Home Sharing and everything should show up.
Mine did and it was a simple fix.
    Good Luck

  • Jst got new computer and want to make it my main i-tunes for i-pod. It shows up when plugged in but it won't stay in the computers music library so when unplugged theres no music. Does it have to do with homesharing? How do I move orig stuff to new comp?

I just downloaded i-tunes on my new computer because I want this one to be my main computer used with my i-pod. When I plug in my i-pod mine shows up, but my music and all my previous purchases aren't in the new computer so when I unplug my i-pod everything goes away and there is nothing. I am wondering how I get all of my original music and purchases that are on the other computer I was using with my i-pod onto this new computer. That way it shows up even if I don't plug my i-pod in. Does it have to do with homesharing? I have it on, do I need to turn it off from the main computer? I just everything in this computers i-tunes music library, not just my i-pods music when it's plugged in. Can someone please help, I don't know why this is so difficult.
