Homesharing problem

I have "Homesharing" set to "on" but Apple TV doesn't recognize it. Any thoughts?

Have to say - I have the same issue - the only way I can resolve it it to reset my ADSL Router, then all works well again for about 4 hours..
As a further test - reset the router, without the Apple TV plugged, Home share enabled on iMAC and MBP - all worked fine for a complete day - plugged Apple TV back in, after about a few hours, Apple TV stopped seeing the Home Share again (had to wake ATV from sleep), even rebooting ATV didnt bring it back.

  • Partial? Homesharing Problem after I-tunes upgrade!

    After upgrading i-tunes to the latest version today 19/12/12 I find that some of my purchased TV programs will not open on my ipad. E.g. all of season 4 of Castle will open and play, but the season 3 & 5 icons show in the TV programs screen, but will not open to show the various episodes. I can watch all episodes in i-tunes on my PC and can stream them all to my ipad using the useful Air Video Server app. It is disappointing to note that a free app such as Air Video Server can stream these programs perfectly but, although I have legally purchased all these episodes from the i-tunes store, I cannot use I-tunes to stream them .This is poor! Any thoughts. I have checked the location of the files on my c drive and they are all in the I-tunes media folder. I cannot for the life of me figure out the reason for this anomoly. Any thoughts?

  • Ipod New computer sync and homeshare problem?

    I recently purchased a new laptop and used home share to transfer my i tunes libary. The first problem is i tunes has not moved all my music only the items purchased on i tunes which is only 5 albums! How do I get it to transfer all of my music?
    Also on to 2nd problem, my ipod classic wont sync with my new laptop, I am not getting any error messages. I just click sync and its says syncing but after a couple of seconds ejects my ipod?
    Please help, I want to turn my old computer off and get rid of it but cant until I have my music?
    Thanks

    I have a new computer and would like to take my
    existing songs on my iPod shuffle and move them to my
    new computer, but I receive a "sync and erase" error
    message because my iPod is currently synced with
    another computer. I understand that I'm not able to
    sync with two computers, but is there a way to move
    my current playlists to my new computer? I don't
    want to sync back and forth- I'd like to swtich to my
    new computer and stop using my old computer.
    Hopefully, there's a way to permanently make a
    switch.
    Thanks for any help and suggestions.

  • Homesharing problem, my library is gone

    Alright, I just got a new laptop for Christmas.
    I was excited about it, because I had just imported around 1600 songs from my boyfriend's and my cd collections.
    After importing the songs to my Toshiba laptop from my Dell desktop, it told me my Toshiba wasn't authorized for these songs.
    I tried importing them a few more times, then I went to check what was going on with my desktop iTunes.
    All of my music was some how deleted in the process.
    The entire playlist is still up on my Toshiba, but I can't authorize it. None of my library is left on my Dell desktop.
    I'm getting very upset. I've tried getting support, but my warrenty is up andf I'm no longer availible for support.
    If anybody has any idea how to help, it's greatly appreciated. This is three days of importing CD's into my iTunes.
    I'm going to be more than upset if I need to repeat this process.

    A little off topic but hopefully useful for you.
    I also need to have access to different libraries from time to time so here is a little trick:
    I have made a little workflow (saved as a program) in Automator and placed that in the dock next to the Aperture icon.
    Then, if I need to open another library than the latest opened I click the workflow icon. I am then prompted for selecting which library I do wish to open. I have made aliases for the different libraries in a folder and the workflow present this folder for me to choose from.
    This simple routine works just great.

  • I can't get homeshare to work on ipad2? Please help!

    Despite watching many youtube videos and reading forums, I have yet to solve my homeshare problem.
    What I have:-
    - Ipad2 running iOS 5.1.1;
    - Music App (not ipod app);
    - Dell Inspiron (no comments please);
    - latest version of itunes on both devices;
    What I have tried/done:-
    - clicked homeshare on my itunes account on PC, entered information and clicked done;
    - enter the same information in music app under settings on the ipad;
    - gone into music app clicked more and only "genre" and "composers" with "sort by artist" come up. No "sharing" or "library";
    - I've then tried turn homeshare back off then on again entered the information but NOT clicked done. Entered the information again on the ipad, back to itunes on the PC and clicked done. Still no "library" of "sharing" option on the music app under "more";
    - I've tried disabling firewall for home network;
    - I've tried amending settings on firewall;
    - i've rebooted the ipad several times;
    - I've restarted the PC several times;
    - The ipad device only shows on PC when connected by cable not as a wireless device;
    - Under preferences in itunes I have ticked share the entire library and home sharing computers.....option.
    Any ideas please?

    Your bluetooth what?
    Is it in discover mode?

  • I downgraded iTunes to 10.5.2 and now my iPad cannot sync

    I downdated my iTunes from 10.7 to 10.5.2 in an attempt to solve the homesharing problem with my ATV2.
    I had to uninstall iTunes to do this, and during the re-install I was told that iTunes Library.itl was created by a later version, so I hid it.
    Now iTunes has installed ok but I cannot sync my iPad because iTunes says my iPad is registered to a different computer.
    How do I overcome this ? I presume it must be possible to start-over after a total system failure.

    My colleagues and I have a similar type issue after upgrading from 10.9.1 to 10.9.2.
    We all use mid-2011 Macbook Pro's and also use a sapphiretech Vid-2x displayport to dual DVI adapter.  This adapter essentially bonds two additional external displays into one large monitor.  i.e. two 24-inch displays now become "one" supporting 3840x1080 resolution.  The only caveat to using this adapter is that both monitors need to be of the same model.  There are no drivers needed to use this hardware adapter.
    We don't have displayports per se, rather we use the thunderbolt port.  The Vid-2x adapters have worked fine for us from 10.7 - 10.9.1.
    Since some of us upgraded to 10.9.2 we've all experienced the same issue in that the Mac no longer recognizes the Vid-2x as being capable of the proper 3840x1080 resolution we require.  The best we can get is 3200x1200.  Another interesting note is that there are at least three different model pairs of monitors being used by us (Samsung, Asus, Dell).

  • Airplay keeps disappearing... Need some help and insight...

    Hello!
    I just bought an ATV2, but it seems to be having trouble to provide the airplay function.
    I have almost every kind of device that can connect to it, iPhone 4 (4.3.3), iPad 2 (4.3.5), Windows desktop (connected to the network via ethernet cable) and a MBP (Lion) connected wirelessly, both on the latest iTunes.
    When airplay fails, which happens all the time, it fails on all this devices. Both my MBP and Windows desktop have automatic time set for Apple's servers, so does the ATV2.
    Sometimes resetting the airplay functionality on the ATV2 (from on to off to on again) seems to do the trick, but only for about 10 minutes. Other times, I have to either reset the ATV2 or even the network router.
    Could this be related to the router? I´m also having problems (already did before the ATV2) with homesharing. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn´t. I´m not sure what to do here, I´ve tried everything I could to try and at least narrow down the problem source, but I can´t.
    Also, the ATV2 some times has problems connecting to my Apple account, giving me an error message, but seems to stay connected to youtube services, thus, to the internet.The ATV2 seems to be able to connect to the account again most times when I re-enter the details, but it has failed on occasion (I bought it yesterday, but have already tried so many things to solve the airplay that I´ve ran into this stuff many times during yesterday afternoon and today)
    I´ve tried moving the ATV2 closer to the router, setting a fixed IP address on the ATV2 and the other devices, have the TCP/UDP 123 port opened, I don´t know what else to try.
    I would really appreciate some help on this, something else to try. Can this be related to the router since I´m having homesharing problems too? Or can it be something wrong with my account at Apple (not that I think that matters for airplay, but I´m willing to try anything)
    Thank you very much.

    iStumbler isn´t currently working on Lion. KisMac doesn´t crash but can´t find any networks either.
    When you say, try connecting with ethernet, you´re refering to connecting the ATV2 directly to the router with ethernet correct? That is a good idea, I didn´t remember to try that.
    I did try changing the channels on the router, currently on 6, but I´m going to try to change to 1, 3 or 11 now.
    I´m currently at a coffee shop, I came here to use their wireless network and try homesharing between my Mac and iPhone, which never or poorly works at home. So far its working flawless. Sometimes the iPhone takes a bit longer to reconnect to the shared library (for the icon to appear on the iPod app and then to open the selected library) then others, but in general, for the past hour and a half, its been connecting to the macbook without much trouble, hinting me that the problem at home lies indeed with the router.
    Thank you

  • The latest update on my AppleTV won't show my iTunes movie library.

    I have 3 AppleTVs
    One has been updated and no longer shows my iTunes library list.
    It only shows the movies I had on my iPhone so I'm guessing only the iCloud movies.
    It will show my movie(s) only if I play it in iTunes and select the Airplay button.
    Extremely inconvenient !!!!!
    My non-updated AppleTVs still show my entire library list, so it is not a settings or network "homesharing" problem?
    iRadio is not worth the loss of this convinience.
    I'm very unhappy.

    It does show the list on my Mac Mini
    Just not the iMac (my main library)
    I think it's funny that the non-updated AppleTVs still can see this library list.
    Funny that it still can see the Mini's list.
    Very odd.
    I'll try some reboots.

  • Audiobook artwork single track not showing list view

    Looking at audiobooks in list view with the artwork on the left side I notice that if audiobooks have multiple tracks the artwork appears; but if the audiobook is in a single track, the artwork (although present in the file and in the usual place) doesn't appear in list view.
    Hope I've explained it; here's an example where the art for In Cold Blood Appears, but the art for Reamde does not:
    Even though the art appears for Reamde as normal:
    I have several other examples and scratching my head. Any ideas?
    (I'm using the latest Yosemite and the latest iTunes as of 3.26.2015).

    Now that Google Apps is available i upgraded to iOS6 - & let's not mention Google copying my phone book to their servers at this point....
    Anyway, HOMESHARE AUDIOBOOK ARTWORK IS NOW SHOWING on iPhone and iPads. (I am also pleased audiobooks are separated from ebooks on the iTunes upgrade.) -- Hooray!! Lonnnnng time coming...
    BUT There are some remaining audiobook-homeshare problems:
    - the iPad music app regularly crashes when browsing my audiobooks, as it seems it cannot handle large libraries, despite i am now running 2 separate libraries (audiobook and music);
    - similar to above, artwork doesn't always load for every audiobook 'album';
    - homeshare loses connection regularly, especially whilst listening to an audiobook (with no device interference!) and strong wifi - Im convinced it is timing out;
    - audiobook management REMAINS GREATLY UNDER-DEVELOPED eg: 1) track and chapter/disc ordering, 2) sorting of audiobooks in the way I want them sorted ie options, 3) searching of audiobooks reverts to music search... Grrrr!
    Also, WHY CAN I NOT GET ALBUM VIEW ON MUSIC APP PLAYLISTS?? Audiobooks are multiple tracks per 'album' so playlist view is totally un-usable for audiobooks! Why does it not just mimic iTunes functionality in this regard??
    I wish someone from apple would chat with me on this, as I use audiobooks daily and could improve the music app so much....

  • Why does time machine show the backup failed

    The time machine icon in the menu bar keeps showing up with a "!" in the middle of it, which is suppose to mean the back up failed.
    Yet when I go to System Preference, it shows the backup succeeded.
    The menu bar shows the last successful back up was on Sept 13.
    System Preferences shows the last successful backup was an hour ago.  (15 Sept.)
    How do I get these two to agree with each other?
    Rebooting the computer doesn't seem to help.
    I'm running 10.9.4 now.

    LonerT:
    Thanks for looking at the HomeSharing problem
    I have three discussions open that are related.  The first one shows that the ATV appears to open the extra DAAP connections, which in turn appears to be related to Homesharing problem.
    Airport opens multiple DAAP connections
    Numerous ATV DAAP ports to MacBook Pro
    Cannot turn off Homesharing to AppleTV: IPv6 connections remain
    This one (not mine) points at the Bonjour Sleep Proxy Service as being involved in the DAAP problem.
    DHCP conflicts between AppleTV and Airport Extreme repeater
    And this is the "other side" of the problem, which I have also experienced
    Apple TV homesharing keeps dropping out ...
    I note that my AppleTV started out with a DHCP address of 10.0.1.16, it jumped to 10.0.1.20 and then migrated up, one address at a time, to 10.0.1.25.
    Given the number of systems I have on my subnet, if they are handed out in order, and given that I just moved from 192.168.1.0/24 private space, the highest address should be around 12.
    I have two Apple TVs.  One on Wireless remote from the ATX and connected to an Airport Express and one connected via ethernet directly to the AEX.  I don't use the remote one.  It should not have been turned on (activated) for at least two weeks, yet the AEX is still sending out ARP requests for the last IP address that it had and my laptop still associates the AEX MAC with the last address assigned to the remote ATV.

  • I can't link my homesharing to my apple tv. i'm on windows 7. is that the problem?

    Can anyone help. I bought apple tv yesterday, but everytime I enter my apple id on the screen of apple TV it says not recognised. it is working on all other devices, including 'homeshare' on itunes. Is there something in windows 7 is the problem?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
    Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
    Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
    Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
    Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    Restart your mobile device.

  • Problems with homesharing since the last 2 updates (4.2 & 4.21)

    I've been having a problem where I'm playing movies or tv shows from my iTunes library through homesharing and my ATV(2) will get "kicked off homesharing". The movie/tv show just stops abruptly and ATV goes back to the main menu and stating that it can not find my iTunes library. This occurs at random times as far as I can tell. I can get it to work again if I turn off, then back on homesharing through iTunes on my Mac. I'm not sure if this is an ATV issue or an iTunes issue (iTunes is ver. 10.2.1). Never had this problem before the updates.

    Thank you for your suggestion.
    I have reinstalled Java 1.5., however I still get a Cannot launch Java application: Uncaught exception in main mehtod: java.lang.NullPointerException.
