Honda : ( iPod

We are picking up a new Honda Fit tomorrow. They used to offer ipod connectivity, but have discontinued this. The sales staff said it was because Apple keeps changing the iTunes software, making it not compatible with the car ipod adapters. They have had too many issues, so no longer offer the option.
Can this be true? IF SO - APPLE, YOUR BAD!
Does any one out there have experience with a permanent solution. I don't want to use a transmitter - been there - done that - too much interferrence here in our city. In my Subaru we use the cassette player adapter and it really works fine. My ears are too old and wrecked from concerts for the really high quality sound that some people are looking for. I just want to plug and play and not have to mess around with constant adjustments.
ANY HELP?

A reputable car stereo dealer here in ABQ installed an ipod adapter that works great to play - charge - control our g3 & g4 ipods. Vorks with the video ipod too.
Brand is USA•SPEC.

I think it comes with a breakout box that offers firewire import.  Again do your research.

  • Beware Updating To V2.0 Software

I finally managed to update to ver 2.0 last night, uk unlocked N97 on Orange.  The update itself took several hours, thanks to nokia ovi suite and software updater repeatedly crashing and needing reinstalled, resulting in me losing all my data that I had just backed up, nice 1 Nokia.
Anyway, all day today, the widgets haven't been working, it keeps asking me to set up my email, resetting itself, gps is **bleep** again, accu weather not working, browser taking 30 seconds to recognise a click and the FM transmitter seems to have disappeared and the new and improved OVI store doesn't work at all.
So after I finished work, I nipped into the Nokia flagship store on Regent street to get some help.  Got chatting to a helpful member of staff and mentioned that i'd updated the phone and now loads of things weren't working.  He asked if i'd updated to v12 (I hadn't, i'd just got it back from repair to sort the camera lense and dodgy gps, and the repair centre had installed V12 for me) and when i replied "no, to version 20" his exact words were "oh no"  According to him V2.0 is seriously broke in many ways, he was nearly as **bleep** as me actually as he has an N97 as his personal phone.  He claimed that among other things, it wipes the fm transmitter, wipes wifi functionality from the phone (although strangely this is one of the things still working on mine?)  He was quick to agree with me that it was an absolute disgrace the way this was being dragged out and they basically knew nothing about what was being done.  It was actually quite funny as I went to show them the missing fm transmitter screen, the phone crashed right in front of them, without me even doing anything, both members of staff looked like they wanted to be sucked through a hole in the floor.
Now I don't know if the V.2 software has been pulled from the updaters or not, but according to this guy, Nokia are right now frantically working on a fix for the V.2 software but surprise surprise has no idea when we'll be likely to see it.  Like many on here, I have been patient and despite having some niggling problems, I held off complaining with the expectation that V.2 would solve many of the gripes and annoyances, but it seems Nokia are absolutely incapable of properly testing things work properly, one of the worst examples of quality control i've ever seen, maybe only rivalled by the Microsoft Xbox 360 debacle.
Until recently, I hadn't had a Nokia phone for about 10 years (7210) but liked the look of the N97 so I bought an N97 and 5800 Xpressmusic to compare, intending to sell on ebay the 1 i didn't want.  I actually preferred many of the things on the 5800, but ultimately the extra storage, better screen and keyboard won me over to to the N97, especially as it seemed to be working pretty well over the last week or so with the V12 software.  Just this weekend, I gave my little sis the 5800 as a gift to cheer her up after she got pick-pocketed at Oxford circus on Friday, and now it seems I'm left with an expensive brick and may even have to go and buy another cheap handset, just to keep in touch until the problems are hopefully ironed out once and for all.
I'm no fanboy and have no loyalty to any manufacturer, but this experience has left me with a sour taste in my mouth, Nokia really need to pull the finger out.  The ironic thing is, about 30 minutes after I managed to update, I got an email from Orange about the iPhone, which is supposedly coming in 2 weeks so I may end up just buying out my contract and upgrading to a new iPhone.  The idea of the N97 was that I wanted an alternative to an iPhone, but it seems its just not rready to step up to the plate.
Overall, I feel cheated by Nokia, foolish for believing their grandiose claims about the performance of this phone and unless this is sorted and quickly, its not unreasonable to assume it may be another 10 years before I buy a Nokia product again, way to go Nokia, what a response to your declining market share.  And i'm sure there are thousands more like me.....

    1. When i begin to download off of iTunes, i know that i will pay the $9.95. What if my download attempt fails? Would i have to pay $9.95 each time i try to download?
You would only pay once. If for some reason you were billed more than once Customer Service is pretty good about fixing things like that.
    2. After the download is done, will all my apps still be present the way i left them when i had 2.2.1 (before the download)?
You should be just fine since your Touch is backed up to iTunes. You might find some apps in a new location on the screen, but they should all be loaded just like they were before. If you have anything on your Touch that is not on your computer, rectify that before updating to 3.0 just in case the Touch is erased in the process -- shouldn't happen, but it did to some.
Finally, be aware of all the issues with 3.0 before you update. The wi-fi and YouTube issues seem to be random, I didn't have problems with those but many did. For me I'm extremely bummed that (a) Live Updating on the Touch is broken with 3.0 -- smart playlists don't update until your next sync, and (b) My factory Honda iPod integration no longer works (I've hear that BMW's is broken too) and there might be other accessories affected.

  • Upgrade to 4.1 causes car problems?

    Anyone else having problems?
I just spent $50 upgrading my $200 Honda iPod audio system to work with my iPod Touch. Things were running fine. Then, along comes Apple with 4.1. Now I have no control over the iPod. It might as well be one of those cheap audio only connections that will work w/any mp3 player. Even that Zune (spelling?) that Sheldon likes.
[A side note: I actually thought the iTunes "Restore" button meant to revert back to the former state and OS. So I pressed it for the first time today. Wooow, this button will restore your iPod to factory settings! Not good. So, (I think I'm going to be disappointed) does Apple support reverting back to the former OS version?... Hello?... (now I'm disappointed).
    -thanks

( Let's see if this gets pulled )
Yes, as Sheldon says ...apple store geniuses are not geniuses...

Here's what I would suggest (and I'm not kidding): Find an apple store on a collage campus. They may not be on Apple's radar (i.e. they are franchises and do not show up on things like "find a store"). I bet you will find someone there who has wasted (I mean invested) their time into understanding more then the average apple associate. And even at my own Alma mater (Latin: "nourishing mother"), those people said to try and make it to one of the local apple club meetings.
Of course this is over kill for the care and feeding of an iPod - maybe.
If you haven't updated your iPod software (from my centric point of view):
    Pros:
    1) You would still be able to play videos on your TV and many iPod appliances. Now you need that authentication chip. This happened over a year ago.
    2) (As we know) You will still be able to play audio on many iPod appliances. Now you need that authentication chip. This happened several months ago.
    Cons:
    1) (On some iPods) You wouldn't be able to listen to stereo music using bluetooth and a2dp. About a year ago. Up to then you could use bluetooth hands free, but not the stereo.
    2) (On some iPods) You would not be able to use a bluetooth keyboard. This happened about a month ago.
Say, does anyone know what bluetooth protocol apple is using for their bluetooth keyboards for the iPhone and iPod Touch? It is probably HID, but the people at RIM (i.e. BlackBerry) use SPP. So I would think many 3rd party keyboards use SPP (Serial Port Protocol). But, then, there are many posts about "I wish Apple would support SPP" because people want to build apps that interface with external HW that only supports SPP.
Humm... maybe I should start a new thread...

  • Is it possible that...

Is it possible that maybe the problems we have with the OS update on our iPod Touches is because the Apple server is so busy that maybe the software download and process gets jacked up? I mean, I've always waited at least a month (though it's realllly difficult to wait that long, lol) to download new updates, especially major ones, like this brand new OS. And I've never had any issues. It seems like the server would be more freed up by that time, or something. Maybe? I dunno. Just a thought.

Wishful thinking, but probably just plain 'ol boo-boos in the programming. I'm hoping 3.0.1 will fix my two gripes (broken Live Updating and factory Honda iPod integration).

  • Connecting the iPod to a Honda or other automobile

Okay everybody - I am posting here as a warning and possible plea for help if the right people are out there.
This fall, I traded my vehicle in to get a 2006 Honda Civic, enticed by many of the electronic system upgrades. The biggest and most appealing was the integration of the iPod into the stereo system. This was great for me, as I am a musician and music educator, and I have over 10,000 songs on my iPod I listen to for various personal and professional reasons.
Through a close relationship with the management of my local Honda dealer, I was able to get the iPod connector for the Civic a few weeks earlier than it was to be released to the retail market. Design was completed, testing was completed, all they were doing was producing and shipping.
The iPod connector available to Civic owners, and all Honda owners, is a TRAVESTY! I was told that it would allow me to view and browse the songs on my iPod as if I were looking at the iPod screen, but on the car's radio display. WRONG! What it shows you is "Track 01," "Track 02," "Track 03," etc. Up to I suppose 10,000+ or however many songs you have.
In order to browse the iPod, you choose a different disc (from the 6-disc CD Changer controls) to change what style of browsing you're doing - by artist, album, song, genre, etc. Once you pick the kind of Browse, you hit a button, and a computerized voice starts to read off "A," "B," "C," "D," etc. You stop it when you get to the letter you want. For example, I stopped at the letter "B" while browsing by artist. I then had the choice of one of two B-52's songs. That's it. None of the other few hundred titles I have by artists with names beginning with "B," like Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Blink182, Bluecoats, or more.
I am now fighting with Honda to get them to take care of me, their customer. In addition to several other problems with the electronic system, the iPod ws the last straw - it was the big reason I chose a Civic over the Mazda 3.
If you are considering buying the adaptor for your vehicle, force your dealer to do a live demonstration before you buy. I spent $350 - almost as much as a new iPod - for a component that is largely useless.
If you have any feedback on how I can overcome this problem, please let me know. If you have a similar story, I'd be interested to know that, too.
    Thanks!
    Ryan

If you're connecting it to the stereo only and nothing is actually charging the iPod, then yes. It will drain the battery.
You might consider getting a dock & power adaptor. THis would allow you to connect to the stereo via the dock's line-out port and charge the iPod at the same time with the power adaptor.

  • Connecting iPod to Honda Music Link

I need help! I have a 5th Gen iPod, and also I have a Honda Music Link, connected to a Honda Accord. I recently updated th e iPod software from 1.1.2, to version 1.2 (the newest version). Guess what, my iPod is now not recognized by my car audio system. It only shows a blinking "CD-01" all the time, and I can't manage my iPod with the car system controls as I could before I did the upgrade. I tried to restore the iPod and loaded the TTS entries again, but no luck.
Does anyone uses this and has the same problem as I have? What can I do to resolve the problem? Please help, I really hate my iTrip!!
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   iPod 5th Generation

Thanks for checking. I have a ticket open with Acura corporate regarding the issue, and I am going to call them back today.
I am also trying to avoid the restore "nuclear"
option. I wish Apple would issue a patch soon. I wonder what percentage of iPod owners are Acura/Honda Music Link users? Probably <1%? That said, I hope we're not low on the priority list.
Someone is going to need to fix this soon (Honda or Apple). Both parties essentially promised us a Music Link that works with iPod. The Acura Music Link instructions even ENCOURAGE updating to the latest software. Anyway, I'll keep posting if I find out anything...

  • Hooking iPod to aux outlet in Honda Ridgeline

I have the 5th gen iPod (60 gig). My Honda truck came with an aux audio jack in the glovebox area. Is there an Apple/3rd party cable available or do I have to pay Honda $214 for their install?
    Thanks.

If it has the cable there already, what would you be paying $214 for?
It's not simply a cable. It has electronics inside to interface and control the iPod.
    From the Honda site.

  • Connecting iPod to audio system on new Honda Accord

I tried to connect my eight-year-old iPod to the audio system on a new Honda Accord and got the message "Unsupported."  The instructions on how to do this are not complex.  Any idea why my iPod shows up as unsupported, other than its age?  Any solutions?

Possibly age.  I just looked up "A1136" and that seems to be a 5th gen iPod (the "iPod video").  It's old, but that model was often the cut-off for support (for being supported).  The only way to find out what your car's audio system officially supports is to find the specificaltions.
If the car audio system has a mini-stereo jack as an aux. audio input, you can connect your iPod from the headphones jack to the aux. input using something like this
    http://www.amazon.com/Monster-iCable-Player-Auxiliary-Input/dp/B002AR5XIK
For an older iPod, that may be a better way to connect it, because it is simple.  There is no interaction between car system and iPod taking place.  The iPod just needs to play music like always, except it is playing through the car system instead of through your headphones.

  • IPod Touch stopped working w/2011 Honda Civic?

I've been connecting my iPod touch to my Honda via USB port.  It's been fully compatible until recently (iOS5 update?). I've restarted the iPod, reset the cable connections, did a desktop sync with the iPod, and still nothing.  I'm getting "unsupported device" error messages on my radio/dash.
    Any one have suggestions?
    Thanks!

You can see if restoring your Pod, first from backup and then to factory defaults/new iPod will solve the problem. However, it is likely that the update broke the compatibility.  Have you contacted Honda?  A firmware update to either the iPod or car system is probably required.

  • My Ipod says version not supported when attaching to my Honda

I just purchased a Honda Insight and hooked my iPod up to the USB port and it was working fine.  I brought my ipod inside and hooked it up to my macbook added several songs and may have upgraded the software.  Now when I hook it up to the USB in the Honda it says version not supported.  Is this an iPod issue or is this something that I need to address with Honda.

  • Ipod nano 7th generation USB error in honda civic 2013

I bought an iPod Nano specifically to use in my 2013 Honda Civic Hybrid.  It is 7th generation and using firmware 1.0.3.  Some days it will work for quite a while, other times is cuts out after only a minute or two with an error message about the USB.  Honda has been aware of the issue since April of 2014 and says it is a firmware issue and it has been reported to Apple.   It only seems to be an issue with 2012-2013 Civics and 2012-2014 CR-V.
The only way around it is to shut off the car and restart it.  Restarting the Nano won't work.  I just checked tonight to see if there is a firmware update.  There is not.  I wonder if anyone else is having this trouble and what you have done to work around it.

Since you were able to call, I poked around too and found a place where I could call.  If enough people actually call them, maybe they'll finally get on the stick and fix it!  The service rep also told me about a feedback site and said that people higher up in the company do read the feedback messages so I went there and left one as well. http://www.apple.com/feedback/
She didn't seem to have any information on this issue either and said she was not aware of any plans to update the Nano firmware.  I hope she is wrong or the feedback I left will help.  If you go it too, maybe someone will do something.  Anyone with this problem - please go to the feedback site and leave a message about it!  Thanks.
