Hong Kong Chinese Character

Hi,
I have problems in displaying "Hong Kong Chinese Character" (香港字) in Oracle forms from client side(using Developer 2000).
I have already downloaded the patch supplied by HKSAR website and can display and type these characters in the browsers but still cannot see it in the forms.
I tried other machines, some can display well. Any suggestions? Many thanks in advance.

Hello,
I'm using Oracle 10g R2 and my database NLS settings are -
PARAMETER VALUE
NLS_LANGUAGE AMERICAN
NLS_TERRITORY AMERICA
NLS_CURRENCY $
NLS_ISO_CURRENCY AMERICA
NLS_NUMERIC_CHARACTERS .,
NLS_CALENDAR GREGORIAN
NLS_DATE_FORMAT DD-MON-RR
NLS_DATE_LANGUAGE AMERICAN
NLS_CHARACTERSET WE8ISO8859P1
NLS_SORT BINARY
NLS_TIME_FORMAT HH.MI.SSXFF AM
NLS_TIMESTAMP_FORMAT DD-MON-RR HH.MI.SSXFF AM
NLS_TIME_TZ_FORMAT HH.MI.SSXFF AM TZR
NLS_TIMESTAMP_TZ_FORMAT DD-MON-RR HH.MI.SSXFF AM TZR
NLS_DUAL_CURRENCY $
NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET AL16UTF16
NLS_COMP BINARY
NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS BYTE
NLS_NCHAR_CONV_EXCP FALSE
I wish to change some of the parameters so that it supports chinese. Although NCLOB or NVARCHAR2 supports well but only if chinese characters are posted directly to it.
It fails, if unicode generated by some other porgram, say a java application, is posted to the same column and later on fetched and displayed in browser.
Thanks & regards,
Sanjeev.

I really don't think that this is the issue, but it has more to do with what Apple is allowed to sell in different countries of the world .... Copyright, licensing or government regulations all being the factors involved.
As far as I know, you must use a credit card that is registered to a valid address in the country of the store in which you want to purchase - so do you have a Hong Kong/Chinese credit card registered to an address there in Hong Kong?

  • Chinese Traditional (Hong Kong) Language Pack

Recently installed the Chinese Traditional (Hong Kong) Language Pack onto the computer running Windows 7 Enterprise version with 'New ChangJie 2010' input method, but there are errors/problems.  After inputting 1 or more strokes, I am unable to select
the required word/character, even after hitting 'space bar' or 'down arrow'.  There is no such problem for the Chinese Simplified PinYin input method.  What is wrong?

The language is set in Settings - Language and input. You should see 2 chinese languages - simplified and tranditional. If not, you may have to update ROM to latest and check again.
Also, check you ROM build. Should ended with HK.

  • Mac App Store Hong Kong uses Simplified Chinese!!! No more Traditional Chinese?  Why?

I entered the Mac App Store Hong Kong using my Hong Kong Apple ID.  I was expecting to see the names and descriptions of apps  to be using Traditional Chinese characters.  But what I saw was Simplified Chinese instead.
How can I turn them back to Traditional Chinese?

I was talking about the OS X App Store on Mac, not the iOS App Store that you showed on iTunes.
While the mainland China has simplified Chinese and made Simplified Chinese commonly used in mainland China, Hong Kong has remained its traditional learning, teaching and using Traditional Chinese as the dominant and main written language in all non-English newspapers in Hong Kong and the education environment.  In addition, the phrases in Traditional Chinese are not the same as those in Simplified Chinese.
Thus, while the OS X App Store in mainland China is using Simplified Chinese, the OS X App Store in Hong Kong should be provided in Traditional Chinese.

  • Chinese Character in PDF format for Oracle Reports 11g

    Hello Everyone,
Currently we have a Report that need to be display chinese character in PDF format.
We followed the steps specified in the "Oralce Fusion Middleware Publishing Reports to the Web with Oracle Reports Services"
documentation but things doesn't work. We also installed Adobe Acrobat Reader 9 and Asian Font Pack 9 on the server side
and even on the client/user/development side and followed the steps in the documentation, but no effect at all. Or we even
tried "Arial Unicode MS", same thing no effect.
For sure, we may miss something during PDF aliasing or PDF subsetting setup.
Anyone out there who has the same experience and able to resolve the issue that currently using the Oralce Fusion Middleware Reports 11g?
Doesn't matter if it does not related to chinese character, as long as it relates to this issue like japanese or arabic characters in PDF.
If its ok, kindly provide the steps how you do it.
    Your help is highly appreciated.
Regards and Thank you very much!

I am now facing exactly the same problem as user449955 (Eric's). Dear Eric, how about your situation? If you have resolved this problem, may I ask for your solution?
In my case, using either font aliasing or font subsetting doesn't work at all (displaying "garbage" characters instead of Chinese characters). The setting in my uifont.ali is as follows:
    If using font aliasing:
    [PDF]
    .....ZHT16HKSCS = "MSungStd-Light-Acro"
If using font subsetting (the REPORTS_PATH already includes "C:\Windows\Fonts"):
    [PDF:Subset]
    "Courier New" = "mingliu.ttc,2"
For both cases, the report server's NLS_LANG already set to "TRADITIONAL CHINESE_HONG KONG.ZHT16HKSCS" (I am in fact located at Hong Kong). For font aliasing, the client side already has Asian Adobe Reader with Asian font pack installed.
By the way, I noticed that the WebLogic EM is configuring/updating the uifont.ali file at "<instance home>\config\FRComponent\frcommon\tools\common" directory, but the Oracle Reports 11g's documentation sometimes advise to refer to another uifont.ali file located at "<instance home>\config\FRComponent\frcommon\guicommon\tk\admin" directory. Which one of the uifont.ali files is the one used by the Oracle Reporting Service?
My report server's platform is Windows 7 Enterprise (64-bit) and the Reports version is 11.1.1.3.
    Anyone can help to advise?
    Thank you very much.
    Regards

  • E72 Chinese character support available?

    Hi all,
I recently bought a E72 with English/Spanish/French/Portuguese languages available and noticed that it cannot display Chinese characters in texts and the internet browser. Is there any way to change the OS to one supporting Chinese characters (e.g. Hong Kong version)? Are there any other ways I can view Chinese or other Asian text in applications or websites?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

I've written a solution of how to read chinese characters on the E72 here:
    /t5/Phone-Applications/REQ-Nokia-Messaging-Enable-Japanese-amp-Chinese-in-email/td-p/732249
Simply installing font with unicode does not work because the font properties have to be named in a special way and also make sure you do not include Korean glyphs in the font.

  • The charsetalias.properties file is gone in Firefox 4? Most web sites in Hong Kong use the Big5-HKSCS charset but declare the charset as Big5. Without charsetalias.properties, the encoding needs to be manually changed very often when viewing them.

I have been defining Big5 as an alias of Big5-HKSCS in charsetalias.properties. This makes Firefox renders pages declared as "Big5" to be rendered in Big5-HKSCS instead. Big5-HKSCS is a standard published by the Hong Kong government because the Big5 charset does not contain many common Chinese characters used in Hong Kong. However, Big5-HKSCS is just an extension of Big5, so most (if not all) Chinese web sites in Hong Kong using Big5-HKSCS declare their pages to be in Big5 in the <meta> tag.
I am now trying out Firefox 4 RC and found that the charsetalias.properties file is no longer there. So in order to read pages containing characters that are in Big5-HKSCS but not in Big5, I need to switch the encoding manually. This is extremely inconvenient. Can you consider bringing charsetalias.properties back?
[http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla.dev.i18n/browse_thread/thread/415caa98a6246a00 Someone noticed this issue as well.]

Here's the script I was working on.
It determines the encoding of the site by checking a couple of different ways the meta tag can supply encodings. One way is to have a charset attribute on a meta tag, and the other way is to have a meta tag with http-equiv="content-type" and have charset= be part of the content attribute.
(note: I think [https://developer.mozilla.org/en/DOM/document.characterSet document.characterSet()] might be a far more reliable way to detect encoding since it doesn't depend on the specific way the meta tag was written. But I haven't tested it.)
Debugging messages showed that it could detect the specified encodings fine on the few test pages I was trying it on. The problem is in the way I change the encoding.
It currently uses .setAttribute to attempt to modify the meta tags once it finds the encodings. Unfortunately, this doesn't change the selected encoding in Firefox. It doesn't affect the page source, either.
I have to replace those setAttribute calls with something that will actually affect the selected encoding in Firefox.... but I'm not sure what would accomplish that.
    http://pastebin.com/Yt7fygXe
Just a little warning, it's case- and whitespace-sensitive because I didn't get around to using regular expressions yet. So if a page says charset="BIG5", you'll probably need to make it uppercase in the script as well. Sorry, I'm lazy!
Nonetheless, I ''hope'' this is a start...

  • Create a new company DB in Hong Kong Localization

    Hallo,
I have to create a new company DB with Hong Kong Localization, but I can't find it in the list.
You can see that in the attached file.
Should I choose P.R.China Localization and than Hong Kong as Country or may be a bug?
    Thank you for your cooperation.
    Michela

    Hi Michela,
I found today your post in which I'm really interested in.
How did you solved the problem about HK Localization?
Did you realized that an HK Localization actually exist or did you finally adapted the PRC Localization?
As soon as IT services install the new HK company the localization translate everything inside SAP B1 NewCO in Chinese.
We finally find the preference to switch the various menus into English, though it seems that - except for normal menus and  - all other operative windows may present chinese indication.
    Here a sample image:
Whatever we do we are not able to make SAP translate those voices in chinese and some other we find going around inside the system.
Do you have the same problem? or did you manage to solve it.
In addition whenever we prin any situation from the newco, every report comes out written in chinese.
The only solution they could sugest is to create and import some reports from UK localization in order to have those reports we may need in english.
On my opinion this is an unsatisfactory solution.
Looking forward to read from you
Thanks in advance for you kindness

  • Use dbms_lob.loadfromfile to handle chinese character

    Hello,
    I have a database with NLS_LANG=TRADITIONAL CHINESE_HONG KONG.ZHT16BIG5
There is a table with clob type column.
I've tried to use dbms_lob.loadfromfile to load file content into the clob type column.
But the result is that no matter the file is english or chinese character, the column's content will become "monster".
Is there any method to solve this problem ?
    Can anyone help ?

    Hi, it's me again.
I just want to share my experience and hope that it can help someone and someone can help me !
I've created a database with UTF8 as my character set.
With session's character set = UTF8, when I tried to use dbms_lob.loadfromfile to load data into clob column from a file with chinese character content. What has been stored is "monster" character. I know that it's because bfile is with binary type and will not do character set conversion when loadfromfile is being used.
I've tried the other way, I use dbms_lob.read to read the file and use utl_raw to convert it to UTF8 character set and store it in a varchar2. It works !
But what I want is to store the chinese character into the clob column.
I've tried to use the following option but still fail :
    - convert (it's seems that has no effect)
    - utl_raw.translate (it always get oracle error, I've use this as : utl_raw.translate(RAW, 'UTF8', 'UTF8'))
    - utl_raw.convert
Hope that some have experience can help me !
