Hook up to monitors

Can I hook up a mac book pro to a monitor i have?

Your post has appeared in the Mac Pro (Tower) section. I originally answered this question for The Mac Pro, sorry if you got the earlier answer by email.
Your MacBook Pro will support its Built-in screen used at the same time as an external display. Each can be part of an Extended Desktop, and they can be arranged using the System Preferences > Displays once the external display is present.
My son uses this set-up with a larger display behind and up on a slight pedestal, so that it is elevated above the top of the opened MacBook. It works really nicely.

  • Need suggestion for hooking up 3 monitors to my desktop PC

    Hello everyone,
I am wanting to know the best and cheapest way to hook up 3 monitors to my PC. I have an HP Pavilion HPE h8-1234 with a 6 core AMD FX-6120 processor at 3.5ghz(up to 4.1ghz in turbo) with 10gb of DDR3-1600 RAM. My graphics card is a Radeon HD 7450 with 1 HDMI port and 1 DVI port in a PCI Express x 16 slot. I have 3 more PCI Express x1 (Gen 2.0) expansion slots available. I currently have 2 monitors hooked up to my graphics card and want to add another monitor. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Lotventures,
The answer really depends on what you intend to use the computer and monitors for, and how much you are willing spend. Please provide us with some background and/or the primary intend use of the system. As an example of your options... the use of a USB-to-video adapter such as the eVGA UV Plus+ 39 would be fine for docs, daytrading, speadsheets, internet browsing and some video. However... gaming, heavy video, and the like will require a new graphics card and maybe a new power supply.

  • I AM TRYING TO HOOK UP TWO MONITORS AT THE SAME TIME

I AM TRYING TO HOOK UP TWO MONITORS AT THE SAME TIME. I have had no success in figuring out why I can get an image on my TV and an image on my monitor (at the same time), but no icons, no start menu and no keyboard access. M y computer freezes as well when I try to do 2 monitors.

    Hi,
    Your machine has:
*Integrated video is not available if a graphics card is installed.
Radeon HD 6370D, 6410D, 6530D or 6550D Graphics (model dependent based on processor)
Supports PCI Express x16 graphics cards
Two DVI-D ports (Both ports can be used at the same time)
You can use TWO monitors with the right connections for two ports #3 above. You can get more information from the following instructions:

  • Native resolution of MacBook White (2008) to hook up a monitor

I have a 2008 early Macbook white. I want to hook up a monitor with it. I am looking for something from 25-28 inches.
I see that with a 26 inch 1920X1080, there is some fuzziness and it is not as crisp as it looks on the macbook screen. The icons are bigger and fuzzy. I assume that it is because 1920X1080 is not the native resolution of the macbook.
I am a programmer and want to use every possible real estate of the monitor as possible. Would like to know if it will be better if I use a 28 inch with 1920X1200? Also, if I am correct about the native resolution thing?
Also, if you could point out that a 28 inch Hannspree is a good choice or not?
    Thanks.
    AJ

Sorry. I also wanted to know if I can hook up two smaller monitors that will give me the highest (I think) res of 1280 by 800 each? Any connector that allows two monitors (not including macbooks own screen) to be attached to the macbook. Like two, 21 inch inch monitors?
    Thanks.

  • I want to hook up two monitors to MacBook Pro

I just bought a 2014 MacBook Pro with 1 Firewire800 port; 1 thunderbolt port; 2 USB ports. I want to hook up two monitors. Can I connect the MacBook Pro to a hub via Firewire800 port on laptop to Firewire800 port on hub? That would leave me two Thunderbolt ports on hub to connect the two monitors?

  • Hooking up 2 monitors

I am running an alienware pc that has dual GeForce GTX 770's and I am trying to figure out how to properly hook up two monitors. I keep finding tutorials on how to set up everything but no one is saying how I am supposed to plug them in on my graphics cards. I currently have a 23" dell touchscreen monitor and an Acer 21" monitor that is around 3 years old. I have the dell plugged in with an hdmi cord and the acer plugged in with an hdmi cord. I have them both plugged in to the same video card. They both work but I am not sure if I have this set up right because the acer which is currently configured to be my second monitor looks like absolute. The desktop background in completely pixelated even tho the resolution is set to 1920x1080. The display itself looks really off because it is really bright and anytime I play with the controls in the nvidia control panel it just makes it worse. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

I got my DP cable today and hooked up everything as you instructed. I don't see any difference on my second screen. I am adding in a screen shot and an actual photo because they are both very different.
When I take a screenshot from the PC the 2nd monitor(on the right) look very similar.
However when you actually look at the screen (taken with my camera) the screen actually looks washed out and really bright. I have tried to play around with the gamma settings and other various settings in the nvidia control panel but I can't seem to get it to look like a normal screen.
Any ideas as to why this is doing this? The monitor is only a few years old and when I had it hooked up to my computer a few weeks ago by itself it looked fine.

  • Hook up Two Monitors

I would like to know how to hook up two monitors on a mid 2009 MacBook Pro with a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M Graphics setup?  I currently have one external hooked up.
    Thanks. Margaret

In the US, this one is popular:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer+Technology/VIDU2DVIA/
But using such an adapter with the mouse on that same screen may drive you over the edge, as the mouse-tracking will be s-l-o-w.

  • Can i hook an A1082 monitor up to a windows monitor as a second one?

can i hook an A1082 monitor up to a windows monitor as a second one?

I agree Steve, to come out with a new monitor that everyone has been waiting for and wanting so badly...........and to have it only work with their new laptops ?!? Very, very frustrating. They definitely cut off a lot of sales by doing that. Including myself, I know of 4 people right now that would have already bought one if it worked with other Macs. You know they could make a connector that would work with the iMac, or any other Mac.......but they chose not to.
Sometimes it makes you wonder what they are thinking.
    ..........does me anyway.......
Hopefully they will change that, and make it available for other ones soon!

  • Looking to hook up another monitor to iMac

Hi, I'm looking to hook up another monitor to my Late 2009 iMac, however I'm a little unsure whether it is possible
Here's the link to the monitor:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00CFFFGUM/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d0_i1?pf_rd_m= A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1DSQKGJ2CE1SCA590FQJ&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p =455344027&pf_rd_i=468294
Can I do it? Thanks for your time.

Assuming the thing has any of these inputs it's fine:
    Mini-display port
    DVI
    HDMI
    VGA
You will need an adapter as a your late 2009 iMac has minidisplay port output. You will probably need a mini-display port to DVI, HDMI, or VGA adapter. Apple sells all of them in it's online store.

  • How efficient is it to hook up a monitor to my macbook pro with a usb to vga adapter

  • 10.6.8 update: screen brightness issues when hooked to external monitor

I just upgraded to MacOS 10.6.8 yesterday, and since then, the screen on my Macbook is acting strange.
I'm hooked up to an external monitor which I use almost all the time as the primary monitor.  Usually, when I'm using the external, I turn the brightness all the way down (to black) on the Macbook.  After the update, however, the Macbook seems to have a mind of its own.  The screen gets brighter, then dimmer, then brighter again, without reason.  Or, othertimes, after about 30 seconds of inactivity, the Macbook screen gets brighter, then when you move the mouse, it goes back to black again.
It's not that I care so much, but just wish I knew what was going on.  Glitch in the new software?
    Macbook
    MacOS 10.6.8
    External monitor: ViewSonic VA2231wm

Same problem here with a MacBook Pro. I have the notebook connected to a Cinema Display and thus manually dimmed down completely my MacBook Screen. Now after updating to 10.6.8 my MacBook screen dimms up at the time when it would normally dimm it down if the screen was "enabled".
I tried several steps to fix that:
    - Dis- and reconnected my external Cinema Display.
    - Changed display and energy safer settings in system preferences.
    - Fixed file permissions.
    - Did a PRAM-reset.
    Nothing helped.

  • How do I hook my Cinema Monitor on my G5 iMac???

Hello. I have the intel G5 iMac and recent upgraded my 2nd monitor for Final cut from a dell LCD to a Apple Cinema Display. What adapter or piece do I need to make it work. On the G4 Quick Silver it came from, there was a video card with the DVI slot on it.
The only adapter I have is a VGA to mini DV for the iMac. Someone help so I can purchase it tomorrow. Thanks

Today I went to the apple store and bought a mini DV to DVI adapter. When I got home and tried to hook it up, I found out that the DVI adapter is not the correct one.
** Sorry I guess I didnt specify what I had. I have the older 23" ACD. Its the one with the adjustable one arm in the back. The cable is a DVI but a bigger version as the standard DVI wont work.
Any help?? Does the mac store carry it or do I have to order it and from where?

  • How do I hook up a monitor?

I want to hook up a small 13" analog NTSC monitor to my Dual 2Ghz G5. I looked at vthe back of it and i cant figure out how to connect it. And when I connect it, how do I tell FCP to output to it as well as my computer monitor??

For DV, you need a device that can take the signal being sent via firewire and convert it to one that can be displayed on a TV. NO capture card needed. HDV can be viewed using a new feature that converts the HD signal to a DV signal. DVCPRO HD can be viewed thru a DVCPRO HD deck. ALL other formats require a capture card (AJA, Decklink) or conversion box (Matrox MXO) for proper viewing.
    #8 External Monitor Viewing.
    Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

  • Hook up second monitor

I have the new Imac and am trying to hook up my old apple monitor. It's a 19 inch cinema display, probably 7 years old. I"m a bit confused as to which adaptor to purchase. Thunderbolt, DVI male to female? Here are a couple of pictures. One is directly from my monitor, and the other is the extention cable
to the input of my old Mac Pro Tower. Top image is into the computer, bottom directly from the monitor before the extention.

Looks like a DVI connector, so you would need a mini display port to DVI adapter. You can get one from Apple's online store, here is the link to the US store:

  • Hooking up crt monitor to imac g5

I just went out and bought a used crt monitor to work with color. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to hook it up to my imac G5 computer. How do I do this? What cables do I need. The monitor is a JVC TM-1400SU and came with a BNC to RCA cable.
    Any help?

The iMac's output jack is meant for driving low power items like headphones or amplified speakers, so its maximum output power is in the milliwatt range. If your speakers aren't self-powered (they will have some power source like batteries or a power plug if they are), the iMac will not be able to supply enough power to play them at more than whisper levels without lots of distortion.
So, using an amp will sound much better with unpowered speakers, particularly if both are high quality, high fidelity components like the topic's author is talking about.
However, if your speakers already are amplified (self-powered), just plug them into the iMac directly. There is nothing to gain by adding a power amp unless you can connect directly to the speakers.
