Hook up tv for monitor

i have hooked up hdmi to tv.how do i view the computer?imac is recognizing the tv is there but tv is blank

Hi marcus efromphoenix,
Sounds like you have them connected okay if the iMac sees the TV, and the TV input is selected correctly.
Looking around, I found this:
OS X Mavericks: Use a television as a display
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13801
If the TV is black or displays rolling lines
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Displays. Click Display, select Scaled, then choose a new resolution.
(maybe the TV can't handle the selected resolution?)
Best,

  • What is the best way to hook up an external monitor? Im having some issues!

Up until now I have been able to use my external monitor while editing. I recently got a 20" HDTV with HDMI and a jack to use it as a computer monitor. I notice that once I set my VIEW option to ALL FRAMES in FCP, it will only show me a frame at a time until I stop the playhead then the shot will pop up wherever I stopped the playhead.
    The set up:
I have a Caldigit 4TB Raid that i use for editing. I have a FW800 going from that to my G5 Powermac. I also have a FW400 coming out of the Caldigit to my Sony GVD-1000 MiniDV deck (only using this as a "pass through"). I have S-Video/RCA audio coming out of the Sony to the jacks on the 20" HDTV.
Now I was getting a picture but it was showing me a frame at a time. Now it won't show me anything at all not even on the Sony GVD1000 deck. ALL FRAMES is still set in FCP. I am not sure why I cannot see my work in real time on the other monitor or see it period for that matter.
Device Control is set to FW basic which turns my screen black. However when I select another option other than FW Basic, it turns my screen blue so that right there tells me that the computer is talking to the monitor.
As for Graphics card, I am using the ATI Radeon 9600. Last night I hooked up a custom made DVI to HDMI cable and nothing happened aside from desktop icons completely left the screen. Maybe I need to set it up to Mirror the other screen before I hook that cable up or something. Still doesn't explain my issue with FCP.
I do NOT have a AJA or Matrox breakout box and Im thinking I probably will need that. Perhaps my problem could be everything is digital till the signal gets to the Sony deck, i am coming out that deck with analog signals to the monitor.
    Any suggestions?
Before I bought the HDTV, I had a regular SD monitor and never had any issues with seeing my work on it while I edited.
I am working with footage shot in 720p and I am using the correct HD codec to edit with so I am not sure why I cannot view my work on my external monitor.
    Thanks!

Your setup works fine for DV, because you used a DV deck and most likely DV footage. But now you are working with 720p HD footage (what format, BTW? HDV, dvcpro HD?). That same setup won't work for monitoring HD. Now you need an HD box or card to send out a proper HD signal. And since you have an older G5, you won't find any current solutions. You'll have to look at used capture cards that are PCIx. Or you and look at the Matrox MXO, that connects to the computer via a monitor connection. DVI.

  • My office just bought me an iMac and I absolutely need to hook up a second monitor but there is no DVI connection on it, just a Thunderbolt. What do I do? Please help ASAP!!!

My office just bought me an iMac and I absolutely need to hook up a second monitor but there is no DVI connection on it, just a Thunderbolt. What do I do? Please help ASAP!!! The imac is a 21.5" and they also already bought an HD 21.5 ASUS LCD monitor to attach to it. I'm really trying to make this setup work but this is becoming a nightmare. Any suggestions? I looked up  different VGA adapters but the only options for this would be a usb-vga connection which doesn't work on macs. Can anyone tell me if this new Thunderbolt connection will work in some way? Thanks

Using the Thunderbolt port attach a Mini-display to DVI so long as the Asus display is equipped and capable, otherwise Mini-display to VGA will also work. The Thunderbolt port is ahead devices  which are not yet available to take advantage of the increased capacity in speed. Until the devices and connection cables are available, just use the port as a Mini-display port.

  • Can someone help me hook up a 2nd monitor to my iMac 2011 ?

i bought an asus 23" hdmi monitor and would like to connect it to my 2011 i5 iMac
i purchased a minidisplay hdmi cable and plugged it all in and the monitor keeps telling me it isn't getting any hdmi input ... the imac doesn't detect it
i have hooked up the same monitor via the same cable to a current model mac min and the monitor works perfectly
i have reset the pram and that didn't help
is there a step that i am missing ? ... is there a checklist somewhere ?
i have done a fair bit of research and have read apple's support on the issue but can't get anywhere with this ?
can thunderbolt ports be tested ? ... do they go bad ?
is it worth getting an dvi connector (i don't need sound) ?
    thanks for any help

Hi, what is the rez of that Monitor?
Supports dual simultaneous displays -- 1920x1200 on an HDMI display or a DVI display using the included HDMI-to-DVI adapter and 2560x1600 on a Thunderbolt or Mini DisplayPort display or even a VGA display (with adapter).
Does it work on the HDMI port by itself?

  • Hooking up to a monitor

Is there a cable available that will hook up to a monitor? I understand that there won't be sound. I think there are s video cables, but I need the standard computer monitor hookup.

This is the cable you need for a VGA monitor. It is available in the store.
    Apple Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter
The Mini-DVI to VGA adapter is designed for the iMac (Intel Core Duo), MacBook, and 12-inch PowerBook G4, allowing you to connect to an external VGA monitor or projector.

  • Solution for monitor power supply and raid 5 on x4150 server

    Hi everybody,
    a simple question :
my compagny have some server SunFire x4150 in some Datacenter, and there is a thing that we cannot really monitored remotly : the status of the 2 power supply and the status of the raid 5 of the server.
(i want to know if a power is down or if a disk is "dead")
We are using Nagios, cacti and munin actually, so can we use these interfaces for that?
if the answer is no, a script can be developed , if only i knew the command that can be used to take informations from the state of the raid5, i'll comunicate later the type of the raid card.
what are the best solutions availables for monitor those things?
    thanks by advance

We have some x4150s but they're running Linux. There are separate solutions for each of the 2 problems.
    1. For the power supplies, you can use the ELOM/ILOM system management interface (also used for monitoring the fans and temperature). If you've got it configured and connected to the network, you can set it up to email you about any events. We have the older ELOM firmware running, which includes the ability to add some actions to take in response to specific events. The new and supposedly better ILOM firmware doesn't seem to include this. Since this is IPMI compatible you can probably also hook into this using ipmitool or SNMP tools.
    2. For the RAID card, assuming it's the standard Adaptec (rebranded as StorageTek) controller, you can install and use StorMan software (it's on the tools & drivers CD if not pre-installed). Once again you can configure email notification from the StorMan GUI, but this time it relies on OS host services to do the mail forwarding via the host NIC.
I'm not familiar with the details of your network system admin tools, but hopefully these tips will provide pointers on what hooks are available for these tools to tie into. Presumably there's also Sun N1 management software which can probably do this in a more built-in way, but it sounds like you've already got more than enough management tools.

  • Is the Thunderbolt Port on Macbook Pro 15" 2011 onyl for monitor ?

    Hello community
I have a MBP 15" from 2011, Is the Thunderbolt Port on on this only for monitor ?
I'm considering to buy a TB extern HD for backup, want to be sure before I give my money away.
    Thanks in advance !
    P.

Thunderbolt has got the ability to transfer audio, video and data, and it's only compatible with Thunderbolt devices and adapters. You can also connect monitors.
Additionally, it's compatible with Mini DisplayPort, so if you have a Mini DisplayPort cable or adapter, you can use it, so you don't have to buy other adapters

  • MacPro: How to prevent scanning for monitor after sleep?

    Hi everybody,
So here's the deal: When I power up my MacPro or wake it up from sleep, it seems to do a quick search for connected displays and activates only the DVI output(s) which have a monitor connected to them. While I understand that behavior at boot time, I find it really troublesome when waking the MacPro from sleep.
    Here's why:
I rarely turn off the MacPro completely, I much rather put it to sleep when I'm away. What I do, however, is to turn off the huge 30'' display that drains a lot of power when left on. When I come back, I just have to turn the display on before turning on the MacPro and everything is fine.
However, there's one scenario where I systematically get caught and that's really... really annoying! It happens in combination with the EyeTV Software. When I'm away by the time a scheduled show starts, the EyeTV wakes up the MacPro and starts recording. That's exactly what it's supposed to do. However, since the monitor is turned off by the time the MacPro wakes up, it won't recognize it and the graphics card won't send any signal! So when I come back to the computer and turn on the screen, It says "No Signal". The solution at this point is putting the MacPro to sleep briefly and resume it with the display turned on this time. However, putting the Mac to sleep while EyeTV is recording a show causes the recording to be rendered useless.
Is there a way to prevent the MacPro from rescanning for monitors after sleep? Or maybe there's a key combination to let it rescan manually?
As far as I remember, it didn't do the rescan-monitors-after-sleep thing under Tiger, but not sure about that...
Any help would be highly appreciated!
    MasOS X: 10.5.2 Leopard
Mac Hardware: MacPro Dual-Core Intel Xeon 3GHz (from mid-2007)
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT
    Monitor: Dell 3008WFP
    Greetings,
    Mike

What I do, however, is to turn off the huge 30'' display that drains a lot of power when left on.
The display should go to "Active-off mode" (amber power light) when the computer sleeps. This uses less than 2 watts.

If you do want the monitor off (e.g. to save power while EyeTV is recording), you could use a DVI Detective

  • Alert Repeat Count For Monitor

When I look in the Active Alerts view in the console many of the alerts have a repeat count. I understand if they are created from a rule and have alert suppression turned on this means only one alert was created instead of having multiple alerts that
are exactly the same open. But for monitors what does this repeat count refer to? I checked the state changes in health explorer and they seem to be somewhere along with that number. When I run an alert report it shows repeat count also but that seems to mean
how many alerts were actually created over the period of time the report is ran for. Please help since I'm not sure what the repeat count is referring to for monitors (not rules) that created alerts which are currently open.

    1) But for monitors what does this repeat count refer to?
Repeat count is meaningless for monitor because is always zero.
    2) When I run an alert report it shows repeat count also but that seems to mean how many alerts were actually created over the period of time the report is ran for.
This repeat count value in reporting is different to repeat count value in alert view.
In Reporting, the repeat count is how many alerts were actually created over the period of time and is a calculated field which sum up alerts over certain period of time.
In Alert View, the repeat count is the field value of alert record

  • X201: Picture quality when hooked up to a monitor

Is the picture quality equivalent to a desktop being hooked up to a monitor?
Machine Type: M90z AIO ; Product: 3091CTO (Custom), CPU: i5-650, Video Card: Intel(R) HD Graphics, Memory: 4.00 GB,
Network Card: Intel(R) WiFi Link 1000 BGN, OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

picture quality is related to the type of cable and type of connection you use. If you want the best quality image, get the X200 ultrabase, and connect to the monitor using the displayport.

  • Jstack shows a thread waiting for monitor entry but it's already acquired

I have a heavy load website powered by tomcat-6.0.14 and jdk1.6.0_02-b05(amd64) on a 2 dual-core amd Opteron. When tomcat started, and I directed the http request(~200/s) abruptly to tomcat, it looks choked for over one minute, and if I took off the http requests, tomcat can recover in a few minutes.
Then I use jstack during the choke time to find what's the cause, where I found a strange situation. Almost all threads are blocking on getting a log4j lock(I think it's normal, since log4j use a coarse lock), but one thread which already got the lock are also blocked. Below is the stack trace.

What's the cause? Is jstack accurate? Or, the problem is caused by hotspot compling since tomcat is just started? Or it's just because log4j's coarse lock? ( but after the starup, tomcat can handle the same traffic without any problem, and jstack shows no log4j block at all.)
    Thanks in advance.

  • Do we need both management Pack and ADP  for monitoring SOA suite 11g

    Hi,
Do we need to Both management pack and ADP (OCAMM) Application Dependancy and Performance for monitoring SOA Suite 11g.
I was creating a monitoring template for SOA Composite and SOA Infrastructure and wanted to know if I need to install additional ( management packs, ADP and Middleware Plugins ) packs to get an effective template.

A management pack generally refers to the set of pages in EM Grid/Cloud Control which provide functionality for a given set of target types. Since EM Grid Control 11g, the ADP functionality has been part of the Grid Control release and the pages licensed via the Management Pack Plus for SOA or the SOA Management Pack EE.
To populate the ADP pages with data, additional steps must be performed in order to deploy an ADP manager and ADP agents. Doing this is optional, depending on whether or not you require the additional capability that those pages provide.
ADP data, however, are collected and stored separately from the core GC/CC metrics and are not related to the monitoring template functionality.
