Hooking MacBook Pro to XBox 360

I was wondering if anybody could tell me how to hook a MacBook Pro up to an XBox 360 and run media presentations, watch photos etc on it.
My boyfriend can do it through his PC but I was hoping there was a way to do it through my new MBP instead. It would be really handy if we were able to do it.
Thanks for any suggestions or ideas you may have.

Elgato. I'd say go with the EyeTV EZ. It'll run you $149. Just plug your 360 into the EyeTV, connect the EyeTV to your MBP via USB, and you're all set. I just picked one up just yesterday at Apple when I was accessorizing my shiny-new 17" MBP. Oh, how that baby purrs.... Anyway, that's what you're looking for.
If you want, you can also get the EyeTV 250. It costs $199, but it has a built in encoder...meaning that you can use it like a TiVo: pause, fast forward, and rewind live TV. You just have to make sure to turn off the encoder when you're using the Xbox, otherwise there'll be a lot of latency and the image will lag.
Of course, the EyeTV easy can record TV, too; you just can't pause, forward, and rewind like you can with the 250.
Edit: Whoops. Thought you meant so you could run a 360 on a MBP. My bad. Well, that's how you'd do it, if you were wondering

  • Self Assigned IP from my macbook pro to xbox through ethernet...

I live in a college dorm and i have been using internet sharing through an ethernet cable to connect to xbox live and it has been working fine for months now, but has now recently decided to make everything difficult and it continuously just says self assigned IP address cannot connect to internet. Every video and forum I have tried reading generally refers back to something involving the router however in this case my wifi is working no problem its just the ethernet cable going to my xbox that has the self assigned IP problem. If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

It isn't clear what you are trying to do.  Why are you connected to the Xbox?  Is the Xbox suppose to share the internet through your mac?
Since there is so little information, I'm going to go through a lot of stuff you might already know.
You have two network interfaces on your Mac.  en0 which is the cable and en1 which is the wireless.
IP addresses are assigned through a process called DHCP.  When you have a self-assigned address there is no DHCP server.
The DHCP server -may- be on a router or it may be on several different devices such as a Unix computer (or Linux) specifically set up to provide DHCP addresses.  Since you are in a dorm, is is quite likely a specifically configured host is providing DHCP.
Your wireless network will get a different DHCP address than your wired network.  For example, 128.1.0.0/16 might be the network assigned to the wireless to support 253x253 different hosts (a lot of hosts and the main reason to keep DHCP off of the router).  And something like 129.1.0.0/16 would be assigned to the wired network.
The DHCP server for the wireless network WILL NOT provide an address for en0.
NOTE: I have never used Apple's Internet Sharing and I -assume- that when you share that the Mac acts like a bridge.
I also assume that this is what you are attempting to do with your Xbox.  This would mean that the Xbox would have to initiate a DHCP request for an address that is forwarded (bridged) through the Mac to the DHCP server.  This request includes the Xbox hardware address.  Now comes the part that is going to make you cry.  MAC addresses are 48 bits and look like AB:CD:EF:12:34:56.  The first 24-bits are assigned to a manufacturer and used for specific products.  When the DHCP request gets to the DHCP server, it knows that the request is from an Xbox.  Your campus may have decided that you've been playing too many games and does not respond with an IP address for the Xbox.
You can check this out by using a tool called tcpdump or you can install Wireshark.  If you want to go down this rabbit hole, it is going to require quite a bit of time and you'll end up becoming quite well educated in how networking works.  People go to school for years to understand this.  :-)
Or, maybe you just forgot to ensure internet sharing was on.
If you have some other kind of wiring setup then perhaps you have a different problem.
BTW, when you plug the ethernet cable from the Xbox into the mac that "activates" it.
By default OSX is configured to use DHCP to provide an address.
If the Mac sends out DHCP requests over the ethernet cable and never gets a response it will then self-assign an address.
A self-assigned address cannot be used to get to the internet.
(But, I understand that it your Xbox that isn't working not the Mac, especially since you were able to post your question here.)

  • Capture Card or streaming device for Macbook Pro & Xbox 360

    Anyone?

  • Xbox 360 live and Macbook

Ok, this is my situation...I just got an xbox 360, and I will be moving into a college dorm at FSU in August. I have a macbook with only mac os x on it right now. What are all the requirements and everything I need to obtain full acces to xbox360 live from my dorm? (Do i need to use bootcamp for windows, what kind of netowkring, etc?) Thank you so much for the help.

You'll need to turn Internet Sharing on your MacBook. Go to: System Preferences/Sharing/Internet
Choose: Share your connection from Airport, and put a check mark on the port that in the list below. Then plug your Xbox 360 with a network cable into the Macbook. You'll probably need a network crossover cable. You can pick up a Network Crossover cable at most computer stores.
How is your dorm going to be setup? Is there going to be a Network (Interent) port in the wall so you can plug your Macbook into it? Or is it totally wireless?
If there's a port in your room, you can go out and spend $20-$50 on a 4 port network hub. You plug a cable from the wall into the Uplink port on the hub. Then you can plug your Macbook and your Xbox 360 with separate cables into the hub.
If it's a wireless dorm, you can purchase the Xbox 360 Wireless adapter. Hopefully the wireless network in your dorm is using WEP security or no security at all. If it's using WPA2 security, you'll be in trouble because the Xbox 360 wireless adapter doesn't support WPA2 security. All this might be over your head, but the more information you can get the better chance we can help you.
    Hope that helps,
    AL

I use a program called Connect 360 from Nullriver Software which is free, just have a look on Google for it. It connects to your macbook via your wireless connection. You can watch .wmv and play music from your itunes. Just put the program on your macbook and it is very easy to set up.

  • Completing Xbox 360 Video game Screenshots and Playing

Can someone point in the direction of how I can connect my MacBook to my Xbox 360/Televison in order make screenshots from my Xbox 360 video game playing. I will not be playing Xbox 360 video games on my computer but is there a way to complete screenshots?

I found these two videos and was thinking about getting the Slingbox to accomplish this task; has anyone else done this procedure.
I did download Connect360 but it seems to work only one way; allowing items on my MacBook to be played through the Xbox 360 (but not the reverse).

  • Is there a way to hook up a xbox 360 to a macbook pro?

Is there a way to hook up a xbox 360 to a macbook pro? I'm about to move to college and I don't have a tv but I want to play my xbox if its possible.

I have an E-Bay Cheap mouse (Speedlink) and a PCWorld cheap keyboard (Advent) both connected at the same time.
These both connected at the same time when first installed - but on subsequent connections one is required to be deleted and re-added.
Have you tried connecting one, deleting the other and then re-pairing?

  • Can i hook up my xbox 360 to mac pro 27

i wnat to know how or if i can hook up my xbox 360 to my mac pro 27 as a screen to play games

I suppose you can. You're talking about the desktop Mac Pro, right?
just takin' a stab at it here, but I think elgato has a game capture box which might be helpful. It does mention xbox 360 and ps3.  if it's for a MacBook Pro, I can't say for sure. Maybe blackmagic??

  • XBOX 360, MacBook Pro, PC and Airport Express don't all connect

Just got the new XBOX360 with built in wi-fi for Christmas! Also have a MacBook Pro and a PC connected wirelessly to my Airport Express.
Prior to the XBOX 360 the ApE worked flawlessly with the MbP and PC.
Now, depending on the day, either the PC or the XBOX will not connect with the ApE. I can connect wirelessly to XBOX Live one day, and not connect wirelessly to the PC the next and vice versa.
Powering off the cable modem resolves this, but only for one day, then the problem returns. Any suggestions?

By default, both should already by DHCP clients ... but it is possible that either or both were reconfigured with static IPs that may not be correct for your network configuration.
For the PC, I would need to know which operating system it is running.
For the Xbox 360, you configure, whether or not, it would be a DHCP client via the System Settings > Network panel. The key is that you want both the IP & DNS Addressing to be "Automatic."

  • Is there a way to play xbox 360 on a macbook pro with retina display 15 inch?

How to use the MacBook Pro with Retina Display as the screen for the Xbox 360 any cables, or adapters that do this, I prefer it to be under $40 if possible

    Not going to happen.
Use your TV like your supposed too.

  • Connecting my xbox 360 (elite) to my macbook pro?

I recently got a Macbook pro for christmas, and was wondering if there was anyway that I could connect my xbox 360 elite to it. I want to use the my macbook screen as a screen for my 360, at least until I can afford a new TV (roommate knocked my 32" samsung off its stand and broke it christmas day...).
I heard there is a VGA coord from microsoft that connects from a vga port to the back of the xbox, and i have the DVI to VGA adapter for the mac already. Was just making sure this works before I spend the $50.
    Thanks!

    Broschati,
No, this won't work. The DVI port on your Macbook Pro is for video out. The Macbook Pro's display is connected directly to the GPU, and there is no way to input video to it.
