Hooking up 17" LCD Flat Panel Apple Monitor to an older G4

I have an older G4 and bought a 17" LCD Flat Panel Apple Monitor Studio Display to use with it. However, the plug from the monitor doesn't fit into any of the G4 connections. Am I crazy? I thought these monitors were created for the G4s. I tried the USB port, but nothing happened. Am I gonna have to get an adapter?
Sorry to be so ignorant. Can anyone help?
Thank you in advance.

The Apple Studio Display 17 (LCD) \[Clear lucite with white] has an ADC connector. Displays with ADC connector require a computer that supplies the required 25 Volt power through the cable, or if you use a DVI to ADC converter (with its own AC power cord) you can use a display card with DVI connector.
Which older G4 or what speed in MHz?
The PCI graphics and AGP Graphics cannot supply the 25 Volts to power this display. Gigabit Ethernet and later have the Power supply and the fingers in the AGP slot to pass that power to an ADC-equipped card.

  • Apple Flat-Panel HD Monitor

So I bought a Custom Built computer from Craigs-List and I got a 24 inch Apple Flat-Panel HD Monitor with it. When I was at his house testing it, it ran great and the screen worked fine. He did a System sweep on all of his files and I took it home. I then hooked it up at home and the screen didn't work. I then plugged in my old monitor and tested that and it worked fine. I checked what the problem was on why the Monitor didn't work. I then found out that I didn't have the Drivers.
So I guess the question is... Do you guys know where I can download the Driver that will allow my monitor to work?

There is a driver called WinACD but I don't know anything about it except that it exists. I've never had to use it.

  • Can Powerbook connect to sony LCD flat panel fo simultaneous display?

I want to buy the Sony KDL-52XBR2 LCD flat panel and connect my Powerbook G4 using an HDMI or HD-15 Pin cable for simultaneous display.
While the TV specs say it will allow a PC to connect and display, I have had trouble in the past with Mac/tv connectivity because of video driver issues in either the Powerbook or the tv. I could not get both screens to display simultaneously (without parts being cut off at the bottom or sides). Apple would not support my question as the "connected device" (the tv) was not an apple product.
Before I spend the money on a new TV, I would like to know if anyone has had success with "plug-and-play" connectivity to a 42" or 50" plasma or LCD flat panel, in particular a Sony product.
    Thanks in advance for sharing.

There is no reliable way to know if a random TV will or will not suffer from the "overscan" problem where the top, bottom and sides are cut off. Many TVs do this and there is no way to get around it.
What I would do is take your PowerBook to the retailer where you are buying the TV and ask them if you can hook up the PB to the floor model. That is the only way to know for sure if it works to your satisfaction. Either that or, if you have a specific TV and know its model number, you might be able to ask your question again and get an answer from someone that already owns the TV. The AVSforum.com are a good place to check for various TV models.

  • Connect MBA to LCD Flat Panel

I've tried to connect my MBA to my LG 42" LCD Flat Panel by using the RGB connector. When doing this, the MBA screen changes its resolution, but i can't see nothing on the LCD. Do I need to install a driver?

You are going to need to purchase an adapter from Apple to interface to the Mini DVI connector. Then get a cable like this from monoprice:

  • Could I connect my PS3 to my Dell Flat-panel LED Monitor (s2309w)?

So I own a dell 23 widescreen flat-panel led monitor (s2309w), is there some type of chord that I could buy to connect it to my PS3? This is what I have:
    http://accessories.dell.com/sna/products/displays/productdetail.aspx?c=ca&l=en&s=corp&sku=320-7339

Simple answer is, you're not gonna be able to get audio with only your PS3, and that monitor without a receiver of some sort, or a TV with audio input.

  • OT - flat panel video monitors?

Anyone know anything about the Sony-lmd1420 monitor? Are there any issues with going with a flat panel vs. a CRT video monitor?
    Thanks.

For color correction in FCP or Photoshop, you can hardly go wrong with a good pro CRT with SMPTE C phosphurs. But since a lot of folks these days are viewing on LCD TVs, it might not hurt to have both to judge by.

  • Source for VESA LCD flat panel monitor mounts for Apple 30" Cinema display

I'm looking for a source for a multi-panel (tiled-array) mounting system for 30" cinema displays.
I can get the VESA mounting plates from Apple. What's hard to find is a multiple-panel arm or post and bracket system that can handle the size and weight of 4 to 8 monitors. The 30" cinema display weighs 27.5 lbs. So in total, roughly 100 to 200 pounds for a 2X2 or 2X4 tiled array.
I know other groups have ended up making their own. I see many systems on the web for this number of displays - but none thus far that can handle both the size and weight.
Any recommendations pro or con would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hooking up to Dell Flat Panel Monitor

    Greetings.
I am looking into purchasing a MacBook Pro, but as I am new to Mac, I was hoping I could get some help in terms of hooking it up to a second monitor for video editing. The Apple display is out of my price range, but I have access to some great Dell flat monitors - a 19 inch display and a 20.1 widescreen display.
Is it possible to hook these PC monitors up to a Macbook Pro? I've read that Apple displays hook up to the MacBook Pro via DVI. Is this possible to do with the Dell monitor? How would I connect it?
Thanks in advance. Any answers and extra pointers will be appreciated.

You'll be able to use it in three different modes:
"extended" which extends your desktop across to span across the monitors
"mirror" which creates the clone you were thinking of
Both of these are chosen in the displays pane of system prefs.
The third mode is where the MBP is closed, so your only desktop is on the external monitor. You get this by closing the lid, which puts your MBP to sleep, then clicking the mouse to wake it up on the external. Note that you have to have an external mouse and keyboard hooked up, and the MBP has to be plugged in, not running on battery.
Once you're in this mode, if you open the lid on your MBP you won't see anything there. Hit cmd-F2 and the mode will switch to extended.

  • Has Anyone Used Dell's New 23" SP2309W LCD Flat Panel?

    Good afternoon,
I'm looking to buy a new external monitor for my soon to be purchased MacBook Pro 4,1 (Early 2008) model. I have also asked if anyone had any user info. about an Acer monitor, but no one replied. I'm serious about purchasing this new monitor by Dell, as it's features are quite amazing for its price. However, since it is fairly new there isn't much feedback on it, and I kinda want to know what experiences others have had with it. Thank you.

    Good morning everyone,
I have had the pleasure to use this monitor since I got it on Wednesday, and all I can say is WOW! This monitor is an absolute dream. Setting it up was a real breeze and my MBP recognized it right away without installing the drivers that came with the included disk. The touch sensitive power and menu sensors are awesome and are easy to use. The noise created by touching them annoyed me, but I was able to quickly go into the menu and turn it off. The adjusting features are very effective. I have used this monitor both as a split screen and as my main screen with no issues. I have played movies and games on it, and using the preset screen modes everything looked very good. I also used it to browse the internet and to do some graphic work with no issues. I still need to check out the camera, mic, and audio connections, but like I said before I didn't buy this monitor for those features. The only negative thing I have to say for this amazing monitor right now is that it is really inconvenient that in order to use the supplied USB connections on this monitor you have to connect the monitor to your computer with the supplied USB upstream cable. I will give another update no later than next weekend.

Not heard of the App Store then? Not running 10.6.6 or later? If the answer to either question is no then you're stone out of luck. The only place to buy iPhoto 11 without the rest of iLife is on the App Store.

  • Flat Panel Causing Speaker Humming Help Needed!!!

Hey, I got a question. I got a mac book pro and I got the mbox pro 2. I also got a apple hd display 23 flat panel and Event ALP 5 speakers with a S100 Sub. When I first hooked everything up, I started getting a humming sound from the speakers. So I thought it was that I had bad wires connect to the speakers. But I found out that wasnt the problem. So by accident, I miss and unplug the cord hooking the 23" flat panel from the mbox pro. So when I did that, the huming from the speaker stoped. So can you help me, cuz i wanna be able to hook up my 23 flat panel to my mbox without the speaker huming.

Well, I'll at least give you points for neatness. However, that is about it.
I didn't really look through all of your logic but I would highly recommend that you check out the examples for implementing state machines. Your application suffers greatly in that once you start you basically jumped off the cliff. There is no way to alter your flow. Once in the sequence structure you MUST execute every frame. If you use a state machine architecture you can take advantage of shift registers and eliminate most of your local variables. You will also be able to stop execution if necessary such as a user abort or an error. Definitely look at using subVIs. Try to avoid implementing most of your program in formula nodes. You have basically written most of your processing there. While formula nodes are easier for very complex equations most of what you have can easily be done in native LabVIEW code. Also if you create subVIs you can iterate over the data sets. You don't need to duplicate the code for every data set.
I tell this to new folks all the time. Take some time to get comfortable with data flow programming. It is a different paradigm than sequential text based languages but once you learn it it is extremely powerful. All your data flow to control execution rather than relying on the sequence frame structure. A state machine will also help quite a bit.

  • Apple monitor makes tower go dead

I gave my old G4 with flat screen Apple monitor to my son last year. Recently it went to sleep and never woke up. I can get the tower to come on with keyboard and printer, but the second I plug in minotor, snzzzzzzzzzzzz.
I took my G4 to work and plugged it into a different monitor. VIOLA! It came right on and worked like a charm. So, now I guess I havebad Apple Monitor. Any clues as to what I can do now other than buying a new monitor. The one I have is the lucite encased flat screen that came with the old G4's.

OK< after taking G4 to work and using a different monitor and finding nthat it worked, I brought it back home, plugged the old monitor in and...YOI.. it worked again. So, never mind for now.

  • I just bought a recertified Mac Mini, and I wonder if anyone here knows if it's possible to hook up my Mac flat screen LCD monitor to it using what adapters? I currently have a DVI to ADC adapter connected to my G4 Powermac.

The company I bought it from is not Apple, and I may regret that. It was in my price range, though.
