Hooking up 2 PCIE 6800's

Hooking up 2 PCIE 6800's with SLI is just plain silly and only for those with wall to wall bank notes and issues best not talked about in decent company, but I want it, I really do.
found on another forum love it
seriously tho anyone found any pcie sli 6800ultras for sale ?  gt`s around but no ultras yet or are there ?

lo cra_arc
well i've been sat without a mainboard for the past month - sold my previous AGP based mainboard (k8N2) and Gainward gfx's in the hope of SLI.........
Dont do it man!!! - invest the money elsewhere - check out the benchmarks for SLI - when u pay over 500 squid for a gfx setup u want it to pee on everything right? - nope:
dual 6600GT's cant beat a single 6800GT
power drain on 6800ultras is too much :
saying that SLI only works good in some games - the main limitation for an SLI setup is the CPU - they can do the work - but the CPU's are currently powerful enough to supply it all - as you'll see with every benchmark review of SLI says - the cpu's are the bottleneck - my fx-53 makes me feel ill :
so i made the decision to buy an SLI board now (preordered) but NOT to buy two graphics cards - even though the MSI 6800GT OEM I got was a snip at £250 - check out the prices now :scan.co.uk saying that they are still available at the mo.
I dont know the deal with these cards (still waiting on my mainbaord  )- they are nearly £50 cheaper than the fully badged NX6800GT's MSI sell in other stores - but scan recon they are SLI compatible - which i'm not too sure about - cus if you read the MSI 6800GT manual it says that SLI is only available with PCB ver 210 - Mine reads Ver 120!!! hmmmmmm
anyways -i opted out of SLI (for now)- can u imagine the extra heat too
Watercooling gear instead - Dangerden here I come - should be here just after xmas :> - god knows about the mainboard
  - my personal view so dont go gettin vex peeps :>

If you are using a si3124, the driver WILL hang (zfs or otherwise) because sun is glacially slow in bring out the fix that I gave them almost a year ago (CR 6566207 - more info here http://bugs.opensolaris.org/view_bug.do?bug_id=6566207 ). So, if you want a working driver for 05/08, you have the following choices:
    1) Find a version of sxce where the driver was fixed but still compatible with s10 (the putback was in Aug, says it's in snv71)
    2) Bug sun for the IDR that has this fix
    3) Ask someone nicely who has the fix already to send the patched si3124 drivers to you (like me :-) )
Note that the patched driver won't work in failsafe mode do to symbol conflicts even if you copy them into the failsafe image.

  • Adding a new Hard Drive in the Zip Drive Bay

Today, I was looking inside my power mac 466 Digital Audio, and I realized that it appeared that a third hard drive could fit into the Zip Drive bay. I has a spare HD and Zip drive lying around, and I realized that they are the same height and width. I know that they use the same connectors (on some dells, the zip drive is plugged in with the HD 2 connector), so is it possible to connect a third hard drive in the Zip bay. In the powermac manual, apple doesn't say that you can, but is it possible, and if it is possible, is it harmful to the computer?

Those particular PowerMacs have two IDE controllers with master/slave setups. One IDE controller is for the optical and Zip drives and the other is for hard drives. You can have two IDE hard drives on the double sled in the back of the PowerMac. You can have a single hard drive each on the middle and front sleds also, but you'll need a separate PCI controller for those drives. That would give you four hard drives without doing anything contrary to Apple's original design. You can put a pair of 120GB IDE hard drives on the double sled and built in IDE controller in the back and then put a pair of 1.5TB SATA drives on the middle and front sleds hooked to a PCI SATA controller. If you need more than that you've still got FireWire and Gigabit Ethernet external storage... What are you doing that needs that much storage anyway? Can't you just burn stuff to CD or DVD and get it off your hard drive(s)? I do video encoding for a TV network and I really don't use much hard drive space. I burn my finished work onto CD or DVD and then delete it off my hard drives.

  • Uninstall ni-switch LV 5.1 win 98

    Hello,
We were having a problem with not being able to initialize a SCXI 1127 hooked to a PCI 4060 card.  The short story is that the card worked in a different machine with 7.1 but did not work in the 5.1 machine.  The DMM software has a uninstall program but NI-Switch does not.  Uninstalling and reinstalling DMM 1.6 fixed the problem, but I also wanted to reinstall the NI-Switch program (before the problem was fixed).
So I guess my question is how could I remove software that can not be uninstalled?  When I tried to reinstall I just got the message saying 1.1 or higher already exists and the program stops.  I was trying to avoid going to a higher version and having something else go funny because it was upgraded.  I tried MSI Blast, but it did not report any installers for NI.
    Bryan

    Hi again Bryan,
You can find all these drivers, which are free to download, here:
    Drivers and Updates
    http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/fn/p/lang/en
I understand your desire to keep the driver software as is.  You mentioned that reinstalling the NI-DMM driver fixed the issue with the chassis configuration.  Does this mean your application is running properly?  Also, you said you were moving this application from a machine with LabVIEW 7.1 to a machine with LabVIEW 5.1.  The two different LabVIEW versions will require different drivers and you would need to downgrade the application somehow as well.  There must have been some other steps taken when moving this application, so understanding some of them could help us diagnose the problem.
If you are running an executable, then you would only need to download the LabVIEW 7.1 run-time engine and appropriate drivers to run the application on the other machine.
Were LabVIEW 5.1 and the drivers already installed on the machine you moved the application to, or did you do this at the same time?

  • Msi 7870 hawk temps issue

hi guyzzz plzz help me out to sort this problem
i have msi 7870 hawk edition ...the problem is that when i play games temperature goes upto 103c at load and normal temps are 32c...i don,t understand what to do...i have installed latest drivers...

I am now having the same issue with my 7870 hawk. I've done a search and it seems this happens to quite a few owners of this card. owning this card was terrible the first month, but i chose to stick it out and the past two months have been a nightmare. first multiple and unfixable driver crashes all the time whether at load, idle, desktop, browsing etc. and now the temps are 22c higher than normal in every game. this car has never gone above 61c in heaven benchmark or any game, yet now it's hitting 80c in GW2, 78-90c in BF3 and the fan is stupid loud. I am not going to try and remove the heatsink. MSI have already told me that since my motherboard has a broken hook on the pci-e slot they might not rma that so I won't take any chances. any idea if I can get a different card of comparable value as a replacement. they stopped making the hawk and TFIII months ago and I will not be taking the current MSI 7870 that's out.
edit: I decided to change the thermal paste. I used some of my ic diamond 7 and temps in GW2 are now in the 48c-61c range. in other words, normal. the stuff that came with the card must be truly terrible.

  • P45 Diamond shows no LED's

Hi, New here, but I have been reading a lot of the threads for a few days, trying to fix my problem on my own.
    Here is where I'm at.
I set up the hardware in my signature about a week ago.
The board has bios v1.0, so of course it didn't boot, in fact it never got out of post, would lock up in bios while I was trying to check settings. I didn't know at the time what I know now re: bios and the CPU I was trying to use.
Anyway, it got late and before I gave up for the night, I tried to get into bios one last time, and it completely stopped turning on at all. All I would get would be the LED's flash for an instant on the board and then go out. The only LED to remain on was the standby LED, located at the main power plug (24 pin).
So then I thought maybe something beyond a bios was wrong. I tried power on w/o the ATX 4 pin connected and the board lit up normally. btw, each time I retried I unplugged the p/s and moved the jumper to 3-2 pin and then back to 1-2 position.
So, tired and baffled, I went to bed.
I had a long work week, and didn't get back to it until last night, except for taking it out of the case and setting it up on a nonconducting surface with just 1 stick memory and the R4850 hooked up. I got interupted, and there it sat for another day/night, with no power connected to it.
So, finally last night I had some time to spend with it, and decided I would try and do a usb flash to v 1.04 if I could get it to bios again, but first I would check it out of the case. Much to my dismay, now nothing seems to be powering up. No LED's light when hooked up to the P/S EXCEPT the Standby LED which is LED1.
I tried another P/S and though it is old and only 350 W it should have at least lit up the board, it didn't.
I removed the Enermax and shorted the 4th and 6th pin in the 24 pin plug and the Enermax runs and outputs voltage in all its plugs. So....I am thinking it is not the P/S its the board gone south. Yes?
Oh, I also tried to swap in a working battery from another PC...just in case. No change.
All my other PC's are AMD PCU's so I have no other hardware to try in this mb, but it seems to me I need to RMA it and try another.
This is my first MSI m/b, I have owned a VGA MSI product in the past, but all my current MB's are Gigabyte.
Luckily I am not in dire need to have this PC running (it will be used for Sim Racing) as my old one is chugging along, so its not the end of the world, just a bit frustrating.
From what I have read here, you folks are very helpful. Great forum.
    Thanks, in Advance.

    So...
I returned that original P45 to the retailer for a replacement.
First thing I noticed right out of the box is the new board has a plastic "guard" over half of the ATX power plug. Effectively making it a 4 pin instead of an 8 pin. I don't recall this guard on my first board. My P/S has a "split" 8 pin ATX plug, so you can use 4 or 8 pins. One of the split plugs is marked as the one to use if your only using 4.
I have tried to understand from the P45 manual if I am to insert just a 4 pin or use the entire 8 pins. I used the entire 8 on my first board, and that went nowhere, so I am reluctant now.
I have the board outside the case w/ just a Vid card hooked to a PCI 6 pin power plug, and a single stick of memory installed at the moment (I want to know this thing works before bothering to install it in the case this time).
So, do I use just one 4 pin ATX from my P/S or plug in both?  I can't believe how complicated this build has become. I've never run into so many unknowns before.

  • K9N2 Sli Platinum after thought

HI and new to the forums.
     This is what I have
    AMD Phenom 9850 Black Edition
    K9N2 Sli Platinum board
9800 GTX BFG Geforce 512 MB
OCZ Stealth Xtreme PSU 600 Watt
OCZ Platinum Memory 4 gigs, 2 gigs per stick 1066
    Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500AAKS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP3 for System Builders - OEM
Just installed basic on the board and booted, everything was going fine  then i installed the vid card, and when I did, i didn't hook up both pci express power cords to the card and i started up and got a message not sure of exactlly what it said but came to the effect of not enough power to card and had to shut down so damage wouldn't be done to the motherboard, so i clicked ok and shut down, removed the card off the board and then turned system back on and wouldn't boot, stuck on MSI screen, go to post and wouldn't do anything. I did research, and tried booting with 1 stick of memory and got it to do that a few times, then it went back to not starting. So i thiough maybe the memory was bad, went out to fry's real quick bought 2 gigs of Ballistix memory 1066 speed and still nothing. Talked with MSI tech support was told to flash bios, wasn't on the current version,  clear the cmos, did all that maybe got it 2 start 1 more time then nothing. Now i've RMA'd the board and memory and waiting on new, is there something I did wrong? Thanks for any replies

    Quote from: Scooter71 on 14-January-09, 07:50:13
But system does power up, figured if power supply went out it either works or it doesn't
No, that's wrong info. PSU can goes down by different ways.
    Quote from: Scooter71 on 14-January-09, 06:19:50
Hey, I did that and wouldn't come back up into operation system. Did all the ram swapping and got it to boot a time or two then nothing. So i sent back the motherboard and ram for RMA, which newegg was able to do for me
Also wanted to add, by hooking up card wrong, that seems to be the start of the problem of screwing up the system, just wondering..
Eh... I've told you to check cables, you have staring to RMA and RMA the wrong parts...
Problem is in the PSU or in the VGA, not in RAM or in the mainboard.
"Talked with MSI tech support was told to flash bios, wasn't on the current version,  clear the cmos, did all that maybe got it 2 start 1 more time then nothing."
    That's another not accurate advice.

  • Can I use an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Mac Edition 128MB Video Card in a Mac Min

Looking to buy a Mac mini.
In 2004 I upgraded the graphics card in my dual processor 450 MHz G4 desktop with an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Mac Edition 128MB Video Card to run a 20-inch Cinema Display.
Now my G4 has died (probably the power supply and I'm being told it's not worth it to fix---buy a Mac mini!)
But I've read that the graphics card in the Mac mini is not stellar and I'm wondering if I could reuse the ATI Radeon 9000 Pro Mac Edition 128MB Video Card in the Mac mini. Would this be a good thing to do?
Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated!
    Cheers,

There are people that claim to have hooked up a PCI-e 1x card (yes, the Mini uses PCI-e). But that requires some serious hardware modifications including soldering, a PC power supply, and so on. But that card is an old AGP card so even that wouldn't even work for what you've got.

  • Grounded TC error

    Hi,
    I have a problem reading from a TC ( K or J ) hooked to my PCI-MIO-16XE-50.
I have the TC connected to channel 15 in single ended mode. The dip switches
are set with the on board TC set to single ended channel 0.
If I read the Temperature with the TC laying on my benchtop then it reads
correct. As soon as I connect it to my equipment which is grounded stainless
steel I get huge errors. The signal seems to pickup lots of negative noise
    ( -200C )
I have tried to put a 4.7K ohm resistor and a small cap on the signal but no
    luck.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks a bunch

It's sounds like you have a problem with ground. I saw a very similar problem
(although not using NI equipment). I was using a digital thermometer plugged
into a wall outlet and a T thermocouple. I was trying to measure the
temperature of the chassis of a piece of equipment that was grounded through a
wall outlet. Whenever I touched the thermocouple to the chassis I got very wild
readings. Switching the digital thermometer over to batteries fixed my problem.
I'm not familiar with the PCI-MIO-16XE-50 board and I obviously don't know
anything about the equipment your trying to measure the temperature of, but it
may help to take data differentially instead of single ended. If you can, you
might also try shutting off the equipment and removing ground from the
    chassis
(if it's as simple as unplugging the AC input) and retry measuring temperature.
That might tell you if it's a grounding problem or not.

  • MSI GeForce 6800 256MB PCI-E , NX6800-TD256E

I have seen this card for sale and it costs about 100€ less than other cards from the 6800gt series.
    http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.asp?sku=305437&cks=PRL
    (swedish site)
and ive seen this card on many other sites as well, and they say that this is the specifications:
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/produ...ail.php?UID=624
so it is a 6800gt card? doesnt say "gt" on any of the sites...
i need to know why its so cheap and if it really works with SLI.
the modelname: NX6800-TD256E matches the modelname on the msi-site.
I dont understand why it is like this...need to buy a graphicscard soon and I want it to work with my new motherboard with pci-e sli.
can u guys help me out with this?

I see no indication of it beeing a GT, looks like a GF 6800 (non ultra, non GT - plain 6800 with 12 pipelines).
I believe the page they are linking to on the MSI website is simply the closest thing since MSI haven't posted the specs for that card yet.

  • MSI 6800 pci e/ 3D Mark

I have two 6800 pci e in the Asus SLI system shown in sig.  I am unable to have 3D Mark benches recognize the cards.  Is there some way to have them recognized.  This is not the case with other pci e cards I have.

I'm having the same problems as shogan, i get the scores, but 3dmark is saying the card is a "Genric VGA." I have the latest build 3.60 for 03 and 1.20 for 05.  I used the msi monitor and it doesn't show anything on vga bios. BTW i'm only using one pci-e 6800nu on a Neo4 Sli.

MX-2 is very good; have used a couple tubes.
MX-3 is yet improved, with MX-4 being the latest and most highly refined....
MX-2 is more than adequate, a bit thicker (harder to apply) than other MX compounds.
Worth the effort, and best of all, won't fry components if one gets too much on.......

I have a K8N Diamond SLi board with two Gainward 6800 Ultras. When I have just one card inserted I get "PCIe VGA Link Width: 16x" in the BIOS, but when I have both cards in I get only "PCIe VGA Link Width: 8x", is this correct?
I also get a shaky/trembling display in everything direct3d when I'm in SLi mode, as soon as I turn it off the image is rock solid. It's like the complete image on screen shifts one vertical pixel line up and then back to normal again.. this happens at regular intervals while playing games and it's very annoying :\ Any ideas?

Check your BIOS configurations concerning SLI settings, PCI-E settings and so forth. Have you run any benchmarks with the SLI and Balance Bar modes enabled? You will find both in nVidia Settings! That should tell you if any one card is not pushing it's load!

  • Duel 30" hook up to G5 with GeForce 6800 GT DDL

Well I have a G5 with 2.5 GHz with a NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT DLL. I already have one 30" cinema display and I'm thinking about purchasing another one. But since the G5 is out dated and I can't find anything on the apple site saying if my graphics card would support two 30"s. Anyone have a clue?
And for if I'm not able to support the two monitors with my current graphics card, is it possible to update the card to either the NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 or a ATI Radeon X1900 XT?

The NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT DDL has two dual-link DVI ports, so can run two 30" displays at full resolution.

  • Connecting 6800Ultra VGA (2xMolex) to PSU that has PCI-Express connector

    Hi there,
I have a PSU that has 2 PCI-express power connectors (ThermalTake 680W). However I'm still using an AGP video card (6800 Ultra) with 2 Molex connectors.
I would like to try and connect 1 of the PCI-express connectors from the PSU to the 2 molex connectors on the video card (which technically should be fine since the PCI-express connection from the PSU should have enough power for the 2x molex connectors on the 6800 Ultra).
However, I can't seem to find the cable that I need to convert from the single 6-pin PCI-express connector to the 2 4-pin molex connectors. In my case I need the exact opposite from the adapter that is readily available to hook up an old PSU (only molex) to a new PCI-express video card.
Can anyone help me locate the cable I need?
    Thx,
    Chris.

You may need a Gefen DVI to Mini DP Converter. Although my G5 (In my opinion) is relatively new, it needed this adapter.
When I first tried to hook it up, I very carefully followed the instructions that come with the adaptor. That did not work as the screen picture was broken and continuously scrolled. I took it in to my local Genius who determined that the adapter is made for single processors, and the G5 is a dual processor. According to the genius, if you turn the monitor on before you power on the G5; the G5 will search for its old processor and will not properly recognize the new one. If you power the computer first and then the monitor, the G5 will recognize it as a new model and all will be fine.
I'n not sure I have the explanation correct, but I do have to power the computer first before the monitor.
Hope this helps solve your problem, even if it costs $90+.
