Hooking up computer to television

People have told me that I should look at my FCE movie on a video monitor so that I can really see what the movie looks like. Video monitor=television? What exactly is a video monitor? I'm working in a home and I don't have any other equipment except for my own comp. Is there a way to hook up my comp to my television? If so, how?

what else can i use the converter for? what do people "usually" use them for?
Mainly to convert Analogue footage like older VHS or Video 8mm to a digital format than can be edited on a computer. Hence the name Analogue to Digital Converter.
It can also go the other way such as putting something on your computer back to VHS tape when it's wired up correctly.

Do you ever visit a friend or realtive with a Mac who has faster internet? Maybe the local library has Macs on a fast line. If so, get a USB thumb drive and put this link on it from your computer:

Then put this link on the drive:

When you are at some place that has a Mac with a decent download speed. insert the thumb drive in that Mac and click on the first link ("DL1399") and direct the download to your thumb drive. Now do the same this with the second link.
The installer files will now be on the thumb drive and, when you get home, drag them from the thumb drive to your desktop. Install the Combo update first.

HT3728 My Time Capsule won't allow me to access my home network each day (intermittently) between about 1000-1800. My modem is working properly, and I can get on-line by hooking my computer straight to my modem, so I know it's the Time Capsule at fault. I

My Time Capsule won't allow me to access my home wireless network for several hours each day -- usually between 1000-1830 or so. My modem is working correctly and I can still get on-line by going straight from my computer (MacBook Pro) to the Ethernet port. It must be the Time Capsule -- any ideas?

Wireless Interference
Might be caused by a cordless phone in the vicinity. To give you an example, my neighbor.....across the street...used to be able to literally crash my wireless network if he was in his front yard talking on his cordless phone.
I discovered this by accident one day after spending weeks trying figure out why my network would crash at random times.
Other possibilities include a wireless security/camera system near you
Still other things might be an amateur ham radio operator....which should not interfere....but again from experience, I know that this can occur.
Yet another possibility is another wireless network near you that is being turned on and off at random times. Some users power up their modem/router only when they want to do so and leave it off otherwise.
Some general rules to help avoid interference:
Move any cordless phones that you might have as far away as possible from the Time Capsule and/or your computer(s)
Avoid placing other electronic devices....computer, television, amplifier, satellite receiver, etc. near the Time Capsule and/or your computer(s)
Avoid metal surfaces near the Time Capsule and/or your computers
Elevate the Time Capsule as much as possible. Think of it as a water sprinkler....you want to get the room as wet as possible
Experiment with different wireless channels on the Time Capsule. To do this:
Open AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule
Click Edit
Click the Wireless tab
Click Wireless Options
Start with Channel 11 on the 2.4 GHz band and work your way down
It is unlikely that you are picking up interference on the 5 GHz band since there are.....for now at least.....far fewer networks using this frequency.

Connecting computer to television....

I have a power mac g5 and want to know how I can play .avi movie files from my computer to my television. I want to do this so that I don't have to burn dvd's all the time to view movies I have downloaded. Is there a simple way to do so? Thanks in advance for any suggestios.

Instead of buying a dvi to hdmi cable, I chose to buy a dvi/hdmi adapter and a hdmi cable seperately. Just in case I'll need the hdmi cable for another reason in the future. Would this be okay?

As suggested try different media (Memorex is not very popular around here, Verbatim more for +R, Taiyo Yuden are recommened, -R usually) and test on a few players. Cheap players can drive you nuts. Good for testing but you will get some that start going bad quickly. Of course when you can get a DVD to run on bad players it is a good sign...but...

My itouch wont shut down or start unless hooked to computer

This is weird. I cannot turn on my itouch unless it is hooked to my computer. Then it will work when i disconnect it from my computer. But when I shut it off when it is not connected to the computer it shuts off for 15 seconds then the apple symbol comes on and flashes on and off every 10 seconds or so. I cannot turn my itouch on then unless I hook it back up to the computer. Its like it is turning itself on and off and only flashing the apple icon.

Mine just started doing the EXACT same thing yesterday!!! I spent most of the night worrying about it and finally decided to contact Apple support and it is still under warranty and they are sending me a box to return for repair or replacement. I have had it since October with no problems at all and then suddenly it started doing just as you described. I have done restore after restore on the touch as well as on itunes with no luck. Only stays on and works properly when connected to itunes. Once disconnected it keeps going on and off with the apple logo. Very upsetting! Hope they send me a new one.

Ipod only shows charging when hooked to computer

Are you using an Apple tested firewire card? Cheap firewire cards (including most onboard firewire) use the VIA chipset which does not work with the 'Pod. Best bet, as always, is to use the gold standard of iPod connectivity, the Adaptec 4300.

HT1414 device is hooked into computer but not on itunes menu

I tried to update to OS6 and I got an error message. Could not updatye to 6. Then the phone locked up. The computer hook up screen is frozen. Now what?

HT4759 Help, I can not get my iphone to change my email. I changed it on icloud and itunes and it comes up correctly there. I have synced my phone hooked to computer. all updates are done. The phone will not come up with the new email soI cant use icloud

phone says Photo Stream. photos for the icloud account "icloud" cannot be accessed. Review your account information in Settings. When I got to settings a pop up says Apple ID password and under that is my email. BUT it is the INCORRECT email. When i try to put in the password for the OLD email it won't work. It wont work if I put the password in for the NEW email either. In Settings -> my Account says the OLD email, when I click on that email it takes me to the icloud Account Information. Says Apple ID is the Old email. BUT I changed my email on icoud and verified it I also change my email in itunes and am able to access the Apple App store on my phone and itunes. It is correct everywhere except on my iphone. It came over correctly to my iPAD but won't on my phone. I also can't use the icloud push or load my icloud storage plan to my phone. Please help...

Welcome to the Apple Community.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iTunes account on your iOS device, you need to sign out from your iOS device first, then sign back in using your updated details. (Settings > store, scroll down and tap your ID)
If you are using iMessages or FaceTime, you will also need to log out and into your ID there too.

Apple will not touch a jailbroken device.
You can try restoring as new, but it is not always possible to restore a jailbroken device to a pristine state.
If possible, return the device to the person or store that it was purchased for refund.

ITunes that doesn't "hook" into computer

I just want something that will let me play music from my iPod without requiring Administrator access. Many days I'll use the school's computers for hours at a time and I can run whatever programs I want, as long as it doesn't require Administrator access. So I'm looking for something (perhaps something from a 3rd party if iTunes doesn't have something that exactly fits the bill) that isn't quite so invasive as iTunes but that will still work with an iPod.

Why not just unplug those nice speakers from the computer and instead plug them into your iPod directly?

Sounds like the device was dropped at some point and damaged as a result.
Take it to Apple for evaluation and a replacement.

no apple store replaced. they said there were 3 apple programs that kept crashing in background, which ran battery down cause they kept trying to re-load.
they backed up phone to cloud, wiped out old software and replaced new software & new battery. since then won't sync with itunes on computer.
