Hooking up keyboard directly to computer

I have a Yamaha DGX 205 keyboard that came with a CD ROM to set up a driver specifically for a PC running Windows. The Keyboard has a USB MIDI out line. Can I hook this keyboard directly into my Powerbook G4 and use it with Garage Band 2 or will I need to use some kind of different audio interface????
Please help
Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)
Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Forgive me if I was not explicit in my instructions.
Download the Stuffit Expander Installer.
You will need to know your user name and password for the Mac.
Double click and run the installer. This will put a new program in your Applications folder called Stuffit Expander.
Once Stuffit Expander is in place, then double-click on the driver file you downloaded from Yamaha.
This will create a new application which will install the driver. You must launch the new application and follow its instructions to install the driver.
When the driver installer tells you that everything is finished, you must shut down your computer.
Plug in the Yamaha keyboard with the USB cable, turn on its power, start up the computer and log on. Now see if the keyboard and its driver are recognized by the Audio MIDI Setup application and the GarageBand application. It should work at this point.
If you need further details about these instructions, don't AAARRRGGHHH Just report back here and we'll help you.

  • How do I hook my Keyboard up to my computer to use it as a MIDI controller?

Ok, I'm new to MACS and new to LOGIC. I just installed logic and all of its components on my IMAC. OSX 10.6.3 Once I installed everything, I tried to hook up my electric piano to use it as a MIDI controller. Mind you, I am also completely new to MIDI. My Piano is a KORG sp-300. I used an Alesis Audio Link USB- MIDI cable to connect my keyboard directly to a usb port in my MAC. I hooked up the midi side of the connector to the midi in and out on my keyboard, and plugged in the usb side to the computer. I then went to the Audio Midi set up, and looked in the midi studio, and there was the USB2MIDI(which is associated with the Alesis cord, and not my Korg piano) and the IAC driver from MAC. I checked so that both are online, and didn't change any of the other settings. I did a test set up, but when I played notes on the keyboard nothing happened.
So now when I open Logic, or garage band for that matter, it doesn't recognize that I have a midi controller hooked up. When I look in midi preferences in garageband, it says that there are 2 midi devices detected. In logic it says that there is no input or output.
I read the manual for LOGIC and for my Korg, and I am lost. Korg says that it transmits on 1 channel, automatically set to channel 1 if not adjusted, and receives on 16. If I am correct, right now I am not interested in receiving, only transmitting.
At this point, I just want to select a software instrument in Logic, play my Korg, and see notes(or MIDI data) appear in the arrange area. I don't know what's going on, but again, I am completely lost.
Could someone please help me here? Am I missing an obvious step? Like I said, I am new to all of this, so please let me know if you have any idea how to get my midi controller to work. It says in the Korg manual that it can be used as a controller, or a multitimbral tone generator. And I did switch the Local Off.
By the way, who would be best to call to solve this issue. MAC? Sweetwater(where I bought the Alesis cord, and Logic)? Or Korg?
Please let me know if you have any helpful advice.
    Thanks,
    Tristan

    Pancenter,
Thanks for the response, but I do not have a midi interface. I am using a midi to usb connector cable, thus bypassing the need for a Midi interface.
The Mac reads the USB cable as a midi device, but not the keyboard that I am trying to use as a controller. I have tried it with my korg sp 300 and with my Nord Electro 2.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Tristan
    Tristan...
This is what you have, correct?
    http://www.alesis.com/usbmidicable
    This from Alesis..
"The AudioLink Series USB cable receives and outputs MIDI signal thanks to its internal interface. The USB-MIDI Cable connects plug-and-play to your Mac or PC for an all-in-one USB-MIDI solution."
Notice, -internal interface-. What you have is a simple USB MIDI Interface. Most MIDI interfaces are USB.
My point is (was), MIDI OUT of the Korg goes to the connector marked MIDI IN on the Alesis, those new to MIDI often get this wrong.

  • I have audio books on my ipod, but when I hook it up to my computer they don't show up so I can't take them off or anything.  Now I am out of space.  How do I get them to show up on the itunes sync screens?

I have audio books that are on my ipod touch, but when I hook it up to my computer to make changes they don't show up.  I can't add new music, because it keeps telling me I am out of room.  When I go to the book tab at the top it doesn't show any so I can't take them off.  How do I get them to show up?

iDevices are not and have never been backup devices.
Authorizing a computer does not cause media to magically appear.
Media is only where the user puts it.
Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.

  • I have downloaded itunes and when I hook my phone to my computer, it says that it is syncing, but my music library doesn't sync to my phone.  what do I do

See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device, there are useful links in there even if you don't have a device.

  • How do I stop aluminium wireless keyboard from waking computer from sleep?

    Hi
My aluminium wireless keyboard wakes my computer from sleep, at random occasions. Sometimes after five minutes, other times up to four hours. Sometimes not at all. My iMac wakes up (annoyingly during the night, waking me up as well) and screen says "Connection Lost", showing the greyed out keyboard-logo. It's not lying either—keyboard doesn't work, for about 30 sec until the stupid thing finds it again and all is back to normal.
*What can I do to stop this irrational behavior?*
Could this be a bluetooth hardware-malfunction?
(Background: My iMac has been acting this way, as far as I can recall, throughout all of the 10.6.X-upgrades—from time to time. Reason I am posting this now is that I haven't had this problem for a couple of months now, but it came back out of nowhere the other night, about a week ago. And I haven't been doing anything out of the ordinary, that I haven't done at least a couple of times during this period where it all worked fine.)
Additional information: I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem at hand, but when using the bluetooth for something other than just keyboard+mouse, say syncing my Nokia phone, the mouse always goes haywire and acts all laggy, trickling across the screen as I try to move it.

Yes, that sounded indeed like a daft question, but as it seems changing the batteries did actually solve the puzzle. I am baffled by this, as the batteries claimed to be at 40% and shouldn't need to be changed. But I changed them after reading your reply, and the problem stopped. Now, one week and a couple of days later, the problem still has not reoccurred.
For one reason or another, once batteries drop under a certain level of power, the keyboard connection will start acting up. I feel a bit silly, should have checked that bit myself before posting my question, but I'm glad this solved my problem. Thank you ajduguid.

My current situation: I have soooo many texts on my iphone and I haven't deleted many because I need the information contained in them for future reference and for legal purposes.  I would really like to find a means and way to save them other than on the phone itself. I've done searches for various apps yet I'm not finding what I think I would need.  It appears Apple does not sync the texts between the iphone and my MacBook Pro.
Try the computer apps PhoneView (Mac) or TouchCopy (Mac & PC):

    Likely this:
Errors related to third-party security software
    Error 2, 4 (or -4), 6, 40, 1000, 9006
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
There may be third-party software that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting a TcpWindowSize entry into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause these errors. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet size modification for assistance or follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).

Discard the .ipsw file, open iTunes and attempt to download the update again. See the steps underAdvanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations.

  • Change wireless to direct to computer

How can I change from wireless to print direct from computer?
Can't use wireless as I don't have enough data time

Very simple.  Follow the instructions in the manual that came with the printer.  If you don't have that, search the HP web site for your model number, download and read the information and follow the instructions.   Make sure you have a cable.

When you insert a CD/DVD in the optical drive, does an icon appear on the desktop?  If not open Finder Preferences and check the appropriate box(s).

  • How to send "close" message to server when client directly close computer?

    hi~~
I now have a 9 ppl multiplay game with Socket connection. The clients can sucessfully send a message to server whey they close the game down through pressing X button, but they cant send message when they directly close computer.
I want to know how to make so available?
    thank

Whenever we put our computer off directly(like power
failure), there is no way to inform other computer
about this mishap. Now it's responsibility of server
to judge this scenario. In case of sockets, whenever
we try to write or read from socket whose connection
is broken, exception is thrown. No. TCP does not work like that.
If you read from a socket and the other computer aborted the connection, then either the read will timeout (if a read timeout is set) or block forever.

My apple keyboard had some problems, the store replaced it for me. I had to sign in to my computer, and couldn't get to pair the keyboard with the computer, as could not sign in. I know there is a command that lets you override this, does anyone know which buttons to  press.  I gather when you do this, a box comes up and pairs the two with a number you have to type in.

my ipad was restored on my mom's macbook. then i hooked it up to my computer renamed it etc. but i can't sign in to the itunes store it keeps bringing up her email address not mine. how do i switch it to mine.

You can log out of the account on the iPad by tapping on the id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then tap 'sign out' on the popup - you can then sign in with your account/
If you synced any of your mum's apps to the iPad from your her computer then they will be tied to her account, so only her account will be able to download updates to her apps

  • My keyboard on my computer keeps switching to using symbols as I'm typing.

My keyboard on my computer keeps switching to using symbols as I'm typing. I've gone through and changed/reset/etc the keyboard, text, and language settings. I've tried to figure out if a key is stuck, but couldn't find one. I've disabled function keys to check if that affects anything, it does not. The keys will eventually, spontaneously switch back to normal (with or without my troubleshooting). It keeps switching back and forth without rhyme or reason. I eventually linked a wireless keyboard, which types correctly- even when my computer keyboard does not- so I figure it must be a technical malfunction of somekind. Using this other keyboard permanently would be fine, except it is not my own and I am traveling abroad while working from my computer.
Please help guide me to a solution!
    Thanks!

You may just have to take it into your local Apple Store and have them run diagnostics. Some applications will let you type diacritical marks if you hold down, for example, the a and e keys, but that doesn't seem if that's what you're experiencing.
If you've already fooled around with Language & test, Input Sources, etc., then it's likely a hardware malfunction.
