Hooking up my Mini to my Linksys wrt54gs wirelessly

I have been trying for hours to get my new mini hooked up wirelessly. I can get it to work if i hook up the ethernet cable, but it will not hook up wirelessly.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
We need more information in order to help. We need to know how you have configured the gateway to share its internet connection wirelessly and we need to know how you have configured the Mac mini to connect to this network created by the gateway.

    Hi,
I just bought a linksys WRT54G Wireless Router. My laptop was able to detect it wirelessly untill I changing the "Router Name" in the setup page(http://192.168.1.1)
While saving the settings, the wireless network suddently disconnected. From that point onwards, I was not able to detect the wireless network with any computer at all.
I tried unplugging it, resetting it, and even restory factory settings by holding the reset button for aprox 30 secs.
    What is wrong?
    Thanks in Advanced

Recheck the wireless setting (SSID, encryption, DHCP, etc) on router management page again. Also make sure your computer's wireless adapter setting matches the one you set on router.

  • Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router Not working

I have a Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router and it has worked good for a couple months and yesterday it stopped. When I plug it in all the lights are lit even though there arent any ethernet cables connected and the power light blinks constantly. I tried holding the reset button on the back and it didnt help. Anyone know whats wrong or anything I can try to fix it?

You need to try again to reset the router to factory defaults.
To reset your router to factory defaults, use the following procedure:
    1) Power down all computers, the router, and the modem, and unplug them from the wall.
    2) Disconnect all wires from the router.
    3) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    4) Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it, then let the router reset and reboot (2-3 minutes).
    5) Power down the router.
    6) Connect one computer by wire to port 1 on the router (NOT to the internet port).
    7) Power up the router and allow it to fully boot (1-2 minutes).
    8) Power up the computer (if the computer has a wireless card, make sure it is off).
    9) Try to ping the router. To do this, click the "Start" button > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. A black DOS box will appear. Enter the following: "ping 192.168.1.1" (no quotes), and hit the Enter key. You will see 3 or 4 lines that start either with "Reply from ... " or "Request timed out." If you see "Reply from ...", your computer has found your router.
    10) Open your browser and point it to 192.168.1.1. This will take you to your router's login page. Leave the user name blank, and in the password field, enter "admin" (with no quotes). This will take you to your router setup page. Note the version number of your firmware (usually listed near upper right corner of screen). Exit your browser.
If you get this far without problems, try the setup disk (or setup the router manually, if you prefer), and see if you can get your router setup and working.
If you cannot get "Reply from ..." in step 9 above, your router is dead.
If you get a reply in step 9, but cannot complete step 10, then either your router is dead or the firmware is corrupt. In this case, use the Linksys tftp.exe program to try to reload your router with the latest firmware. After reloading the firmware, repeat the above procedure starting with step 1.
If you need additional help, please state your ISP, the make and model of your modem, your router's firmware version, and the results of steps 9 and 10. Also, if you get any error messages, copy them exactly and report back.
Please let me know how things turn out for you.

  • I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router that has a MAC address

A month ago, I could print from my PC and my Mac to my Epson printer over my Linksys WRT54G wireless network.  Now, for some reason, I cannot connect and print from either computer.  An Epson tech asked me to check the MAC address of the Mac and the printer to see if they were the same.  They were not.  He then opined that might be why I couldn't print.
I don't know what changed a month or so ago or why it changed.  I have not done anything to change the MAC address on either the MAC or the printer.
The Epson guy said the problem might be fixed by adding my printer's MAC address to my router's MAC address.  Something about "enabling MAC address filtering".  Then he told me that was an issue to pursue with my router manufacturer.  Naturally.
Speaking of that problem...someone else had it, too...another technician at another site wrote: "...by default, routers don't come with mac address filtering enabled...and if that's the case....then adding the printer's MAC will not solve any issue that you may be having..."
    So, three qustions:
    (1)  Can I add my Epson Workforce 545 printer's MAC address to my Linksys router?  Is that possible?
    (2)  If I can do it, how do I do it?  I saw no "add" or "edit" functions on the Linksys WRT54G Status Page.
    (3)  What causes MAC address mismatching to happen?   What is unstable in that assembly?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Mac addresses with different devices will differ. No two devices will have the same mac address. this is also called the hardware address. This is designed so that it will serve as a unique identifier of your devices in the network which you can check thru the router. Now it is possible that wireless mac filter might be blocking it from connecting to the network. But it would be best to check as well and make sure that the printer is connected to your network and has the same ip address segment as your router.
How to check if mac filter is enabled:
Setting up wireless MAC Filtering to permit users to connect to the wireless network on your Linksys...

  • Trying to setup my Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router but having trouble.

Right, i will keep this nice and simple. I have had broadband internet for the past 10 days and yesterday i got myself a Linksys WRT54G Wireless router so both myself and my partner can connect our Macbook Pros up to the wireless internet.
But the problem is we cannot seem to connect onto the wireless network. It shows up when searching for internet connecting even when its is open without a password or with a password it does not want to connect?!?!
I can plug my laptop directly (as i am doing now) into the broadband modem and it works so i have no idea what is wrong? This afternoon we tried using a Windows Laptop and had the same problem. The wireless network shows up but when you enter the password that was entered on the 192.168.1.1 website it does not reconise it?!?!
If you can reply speaking English and not too much computer language that would be fantastic.
    Many thanks

Hi candn14 and welcome to the forums!
Since internet connection is working fine on the laptop computer when plugged directly into the modem, you just need to configure your router settings.
Are you using a DSL or Cable connection? Please see the links below on how to configure your router with your internet provider (ISP).
Setting-Up a Router with Cable Internet Service
Setting-Up a Router with DSL Internet Service
Once you are finished doing so and your laptop is able to connect to the internet when connected to the modem > router > laptop, then you are now ready to configure the wireless settings of the router for you to be able to connect wirelessly.
    Here are the steps:
Setting-Up the Wireless Settings on a Router
And please secure your network w/ a password.
Setting-Up Wireless Security on a Linksys Router
Please feel free to ask any questions again if you encounter any problems. Hope this helps.

  • Persistent problems with Linksys WRT54GS Wireless Router

I'm currently running Vista with a Linksys WRT54GS router. As earlier discussed in this forum I am still having intermittent problems with the ATV taking down my network. Anyone else experienced this and come up with a sure fire fix?
When it's working I like the set up but I have to say, it is not nearly stable enough to be an everyday solution for getting my music and photos to my living room.
    Thanks.

Hi, I am having the same problem -- my 2WIRE modem from AT&T recently blew up. So, I purchased the WRT54GS. As soon as I reconnected the AppleTV to the new router via a wireless connection, all of my machines (Mac and PC) lost their internet connections. I'm seriously considering going out and getting another 2WIRE.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 wireless Networking with LINKSYS WRT54GS wireless router

I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500 wireless printer conneted via WiFi to my LYNKSYS WRT54GS wireless router.  I do not have a USB cable or ethernet cable plugged to the printer.  I am able to use the 'scan to email button' and the 'scan to network folder' button on the front of the printer and I can pint from the PC to the printer with no problems.
I installed the HP printer software from the CD, choosing network/wireless connection, without having to install any USB cables from the PC to the printer in the process.  many posts in the forum mention having to connect USB cables in the wireless installation process.
Can I install the software in the same fashion on the other two laptops? Or, do I need to do something differently?

The USB cable is used on those printers which do not have display or front panel wireless setup is not possible. We configure the wireless settings during install and save those settings in printer's memory by transferring through USB cable. Therefore the USB is plugged in during wireless installation temporarily. In your case I don't think plugging in USB cable is necessary as the printer is already on network and had IP address. Connect the laptops on wireless network and proceed with regular install, the printer should be detected automatically.

  • Will the iPad Mini connect to LinkSys WRT54G Router

Will the iPad Mini connect Via WiFi to a LinkSys Wireless G Braodband Router?
The model is WRT54G V5, SN CDFBOE865514 and Firmware is the latest 1.02.8 dated 5 Oct 2009
My wife's iPad 2 connects to it well but we have been unable to connect the new iPad Mini to it.
I have read in some of your notes that the Mini will only connect to Firmware 1.02.8n.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • LINKSYS WRT54GS WIRELESS ROUTER

hi can anybody tell me if the wrt54gs will work with tiscalli thanks.

I don't think it will sidney, as the Linksys routers do not usually have PPPoA connection types available.  You should consider getting yourself a gateway type of device (router + modem)

  • Problem Extending Linksys WRT54GS wireless with AEBS

    Hello,
I know this post might seem redundant, but I really can't figure out what's wrong.
    Here is my Configuration
    Linksys Router :
    WRT54GS v7 firmware :7.50.2
I tried the step-by-step instructions that i found here :
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5338208
    Same SSID
WPA for encryption, because I read somewhere that with the new firmware, it was accepted.
And what I get, is the following :
I have a steady Green light on the AEBS, when configure for WDS.
But as soon as I get the green light, my powerbook can't connect to the internet anymore via the AEBS, but if I turn the AEBS off, then I the airport of my powerbook switches back to the routeur wifi and I have internet again.
I'd really appreciate any input, even if it is to tell me that it is not possible to make it work.
    Thanks

Yes, I understand what you are saying.
So you think that it should work, right ?
Doesn't the green light on the Airport tell me that the WDS settings are at least well configured ?
I guess what I don't really now how to set, is the internet tab, in the airport utility.
When I select using DHCP, it doesn't work : I don't get a green light.
When I select manually here are the setting I am putting :
    IP adress : 192.168.1.130
    Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0
    Router : 192.168.1.1
And I filled the DNS fields, with the same DNS present on the linksys page,
What should I do for the "Connexion Sharing" field ?
    Thanks again

  • Can't get AirPort Express to join LINKSYS WRT54G wireless network

After several unsuccessful attempts to follow Tesserax's advice to get my AX to join my LINKSYS wireless network, I depressed the reset button, plugged the AX in, and waited for the flashing reset confirmation. Reconfiguring from scratch to join my WPA network, all seemed to go well. After selecting to Update, the following window pops up:
<The settings for this AirPort Express have been successfully updated. You can close this window or wait for this AirPort Express to restart.
Waiting for the AirPort Express to restart…>
After a couple of minutes the following window appears:
<AirPort Utility was unable to find your AirPort Wireless device after restarting.
The settings for this AirPort wireless device have been successfully updated, but there was a problem re-joining the wireless network or finding the AirPort wireless device. You may need to select your network from the Wi-Fi menu and try again.>
At this point, AirPort Utility will no longer recognize the AX, no matter how many times I rescan. The only way I can get it to be recognized is to once again do a hard factory reset. I then go through the whole set up process again, only to end up in the same dead end. I'm thinking that there has to be some sort of problem between the AX and the LINKSYS. Prior to the above activity, I was able to send iTunes to the AX just fine. I just wasn't able to surf the Internet at the same time.
Any ideas you might have will be appreciated.

Thomas - I have a very similar problem - I've got a Wi-Fi/ADSL2 router supplied by my telecom company AirTel (the router's called 'beetel', 802.11g model) and I'm having problems extending it with Airport Express - the Airport Utility doesn't seem to be able to detect the AE after restart. The only difference with your case seems that you have a Linksys piece.
    Here's what I tried:
    1. Had my Wi-Fi network up & running with the beetel router (network name: PASTA)
    2. Booted Airport Express
    3. Launched Airport Utility 5.5.3 from Windows 7, detected the Airport Express, chose Manual Setup and went for option "Extend my Wireless Network" and chose PASTA and specified its password
    3. Airport Utility restarted the device after saving changes, and Aiport Express went invisible.
That sounds like the same problem you had.
Just to cross check, I tried connecting an Ethernet cable between AE and the beetel router and went for option "Create Wireless Network" and that was a breeze.
@Tesserax - can Airport Express smoothly extend only an Airport Extreme WiFi network? Is there anything I can do to extend my current Wi-Fi network from this router?
Thanks for your notes & time
    Forrest

  • Airport Express joining Linksys WRT54G Wireless network

I have spent hours trying all different ways of getting my Airport Express to join my Linksys network. And then I discovered that I have to *__remove the spaces from my WPA password__* in order for my AX to join the network. My iMac and MacBook all join the network with spaces in the password, but for some reason the AX does not.
This may be superstition, but I also made sure the pass phrase was all uppercase and exactly 13 characters. Don't know if that makes a difference, but I was tired of trying different things.
    Hope this helps some one.

  • Linksys WRT54GS Wireless Router keeps disconnected

Hi, My wireless router WRT54GS keeps on disconnecting without any reason. I have also changed the channel to 11 but still the same issue. It connects for 1 minute and then it stops working even though the signal says "excellent strength" and all the bars are green.

Hmm. I seem to be having a similar problem (see my thread). Check the cable that is pulugged into the back of the computer. That is where my problem lies. The computer doesn't seem to be reading it. If i get some info, ill help you.
EDIT:You have to check the IP address of the computer connected to router. If you are getting an IP of 169.254.x.x, then the router might be defective.

  • Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router won't save settings

Hi everyone. I got a stupid little case that's really pissing me off, I'm just trying to port foward with this router, and after I'm done entering all my settings, I click save settings, it tells me settings are succesful.
But the it goes back to the port forwarding page and all the stuff is at default again as if I did'nt make any changes. What the hell is this?
please can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong , I'm sure it's just a little something I don't know about that's making it not save any changes to port fowarding.

Use a wired computer, open the command prompt ping your router just to make sure that the router is responding. If the same happens do a hard reset on the router for 10 seconds.

  • Linksys WRT54G: wireless issue

    Hi.
So I just got this version 1 router, running cable modem, 1 LAN connection, and a few Wireless connections in a hidden network. It is fine when it is running. But EVERY MORNING I have to change the Wireless Security settings back and forth for the Wireless connections to work (disabling security, enabling security, setting WPA again). The LAN is always fine. What could be the problem?
    Thanks in advance!

Today it seems fine. I did not have to do anything and everything connected. I will sure keep that in mind. Thank you
