Hooking up PS3 to X-fi El

Alright,
So I just finished intalling the X-fi elite and set up the receiver. The instructions in the box were not much help for what im trying to do, nor the FAQs. I am really hoping someone out there can help me with this problem:
I am running a Klipsch 5. ProMedia Ultra. It is currently displaying sound from the X-fi elite card just fine. Now the next obstacle to be jumped is connecting my PS3 into the receiver that comes with the X-fi elite. I have done this... but the PS3 still does not display sound to the Klipsch system. Anyone have any suggestions?
Keep in mind:
I am running Windows Vista 32bit
The Klipsch system does not have its own Optical/SPDIF IN
Is my receiver even working? I cant even get the volume on it to respond to sound played from the computer.
Thanks a lot guys!

Alrite, I have a very similar setup with u. PS3, xfi elite pro, klipsch promedia ultra and a dell 24" lcd. They're all hooked up and running fine under either windows xp pro or vista (just got it working under vista last night)?how I do it under XP: Using component out from PS3. the component video part (green, blue, red) to my Dell LCD, the sound part (red and white) to the aux in of the elite receiver. Under windows xp change it from entertainment mode to gaming mode. It'll automatically take the input and route the sound to the klipsch no problem. Under Vista 32bit: Since the software that come with the xfi doesn't work, I couldn't change the mode using the xfi software. However, if you go to the control panel the xfi setting part, it'll let u change the mode too but without the fancy interface. I haven't tried to use the optical out from PS3 to xfi. But I would assume it shouldn't be to hard to make a few change in settings. Hopefully this would help you. enjoy your ps3/xfi/klipsch.!

  • Can you hook up PS3 to time capsule for hard drive?

I want to know before I buy a PS3 if you can hook it up to the Apple Time Capsule to see the music, Videos, and pictures stored on it.

As per Bob's comment.. BUTT.. big fat one.
The disk has to be out of the TC to do it. You need to directly access the disk so you need to remove the disk (voiding warranty) and place it in a usb holder and plug into a computer. If you are very careful pulling up the rubber mat. Using lots of heat from heat gun or hair dryer with half the inlet blocked.. and carefully pull up the mat leaving the label last and not stetching it.. the mat should go back with nobody knowing.. !!
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Replacing-Apple-Time-Capsule-HDD/2750/1
I hope you stopped using the TC immediately. Any new files will overwrite the old ones.
I went through this exercise recently to help a customer with a dead WD hard disk in their Gen 4 TC.. The data partition had lost format. Using just the demo of data rescue 3.. as I could not find a demo of Disk Warrior and I refuse to pay for something that offers no refund.. $100 is not too much if it works.. but it is expensive if you get nothing. But it will very likely work. Certainly the files were still available and correctly named.. but the demo does not allow much of a test.. but still looked hopeful. Customer wanted the hard disk changed wanted to do the recovery herself.. which is fine.
BTW if you have a choice find a tool that allows you to copy the files... you might need to buy another USB disk so you have a suitable target that is big enough. It is possible to repair a drive and so just recover the files.. the fast erase simply wipes the allocation table. Files should not be affected.. but any changes to the disk are permanent and if it goes bad will make it even more difficult to recover.. It can take a long time to copy files off but is safest route.
TC is a backup target.. the whole idea of backup is having at least 2 locations for your files.. by placing files on the TC.. there is no automated backup.. the disk could have died and you will lose everything.. this is kind of a warning.. don't do it.

  • Hooking PS3 to imac

is it possible to hook a PS3 to an imac and play?
if so, could any one explain please.

    You can but not well.
Check out products like elgato eyeTV hybrid... they can, but will only be in 480i or p at best... not HD and in my opinion not worth playing or the hassle.

I've also taken the PS3 and connected it to TV via HDMI and works fine there!!!
How can I fix this - is there some way to fix this? Why won't it flick over anymore on the HP ENVY 27?

    Hello JimT,
I have read your post on how you are not able to switch from your regular desktop's display to the HDMI-IN connection to your PS3, and I would be happy to assist you!
Since the HDMI connection works between your TV and your PS3, I recommend following this document on Connecting HDMI Devices to Your Computer (Windows 8). This should help you successfully switch connections between your desktop and your PS3.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!

  • Zenith dvt216 and ps3 optical digital cord

Hi, I am a newb when it comes to home entertainment. I am trying to hook my ps3 up to my zenith dvt216 using a digital optical cable. I know that it has to be connected correctly because I think that part is pretty hard to mess up. I have changed my ps3 settings for sound output to optical digital and have selected the output format supported  to linear pcm 2 ch. 44.1 khz and linear pcm 2 ch 48khz. This part is something I am not sure I am doing right. I am also not sure what I need to put my zenith dvt216 to in order to get sound I have tried video 1 ana and video 2 ana, however neither is getting sound... I have no clue what to do, and I dont know where a remote is...Please help.

Try the instructions about copying part of the XP drivers into System32 for vista.
The current drivers for vista apparently don't support DTS & Optical in, that's why the spot where you would enable your DTS/Digital decoder is greyed out.
Beware though, in XP with the XFI, when I have the decoder enabled, I get 5. sound fine with DTS on the PS3, Dolby Digital lags though and cli
    ps.
The bad thing though is anything using Linear PCM (2 channel stereo) which is most PS/PSX/Music, the XFI will randomly think a DTS signal is coming through the optical cable and mutes. This causes the audio to cut out in anything not 5. on the PS3, about 2 seconds at a time, every 5-0 minutes. Very irritating, and so far the only way I can fix it is by turning off the XFI's DTS/Digital decoder whenever I'm not playing a game with DTS or Digital sound.
With the decoder off, anything outputting DTS or Digital will be silent. Switching the decoder on will make the Simpsons demo play, since it only outputs in DTS or Digital, and has no Linear PCM audio included.

  • PS3 Wireless Connection Problems: DNS error

I have a WRK54G wireless router, and I had my PS3 hooked up to it wirelessly, working fine, last night. Now, all of a sudden, there's a "DNS error" whenever I try to connect it. It can get the IP address fine, but it just can't actually connect to the internet. Help?

I enabled the DMZ, too, btw, and I set the adress to 192.168.1.20, and that's what I put in as the IP adress when I'm trying to hook the PS3 up with the internet... is that what I should be doing?

I tried E71 on windows laptop still does not work, dials, connects but does not register on the network.
this sounds to be one of 2 issues:
1st and the most likely happening is that a problem with your servece provider settings, and to exlude that , try using an SIM of another servece provider, if it works good, or not
2nd , it maybe be a phone problem
plz try the first suggestion and let me know.

  • Possible to use 2 AEBS to remove the 802.11g bottleneck?

I have a Sony PS3 and lately I have noticed when playing Call of Duty 4 that I will see an enemy, shoot them, they don't die, they shoot me, and I'm dead. Upon replay, they see a totally different story. They see only me coming around the corner, no shots fired, and they have an easy shot.
I have Road Runner and consistently get 14.5-15Mbit down and 750Kbps up. I am connected from the modem to my AEBS, and then 802.11g from that to the PS3. I've opened ports on the airport, restarted, etc... nothing seems to fix it. I am thinking that the latency from going from PS3 to AEBS to the game server may be the issue??
The AEBS and PS3 are 2 floors apart, so running a gigabit cable between them isn't an option - but what about getting another 802.11n AEBS and hooking the PS3 up to that via gigabit? So the network would then go cable to AEBS -> 802.11n ->AEBS ->gigabit ethernet ->PS3
    Would this help, or hurt?

This might help but it's difficult to say without knowing absolutely where the latency was occurring. You might consider moving the PS3 temporarily just for testing purposes to see if you can reduce latency by plugging directly into the AEBS. If that works, then it's reasonable to consider adding another one. You would also need to make sure that you didn't have any G devices connected if you wanted the best results.

  • Does anyone know how to open the 24" iMac?

I have the 2.8Ghz 24" iMac. Does anyone know how to open it?
Unfortunately the whole thing is screwless.

FYI, the only Mac you can upgrade the GPU in is the Mac Pro now.
Those kinds of discoveries are pretty uncommon with Apple stuff. But you could always use a TV tuner (coughelgatocough) as a video input. Might as well use your iMac as a TV that you can actually hook a PS3 up to
And also if you want to use your iMac (or some PC) as another monitor for another Mac there's ScreenRecycler.

  • New desktop computer for gaming as well as normal stuff

I am looking for a new desktop computer that I could use for gaming--such as League of Legends and anything else I might find in the coming months/years, as well as eventually being able to hook up ps3 games eventually, but probably not right away. I am looking for suggestions on what specific systems to get and/or what specifications for a desktop i should be looking at. I am entirely new at this and could use help from every direction. Any help is appreciated

The biggest things you need to look for are CPU(for gaming and your budget look for Core i7's or AMD x6's), RAM - most gaming computers come with 6-8GB now, and a discrete video card. I am partial to nVidia chips, but an ATI card will work just the same.
As for brand, I prefer ASUS for gaming machines as they do have a gaming line.
Are you going to be looking for a package, monitor, tower, etc? Or do you already have a monitor?
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+Essentio+Desktop+/+AMD+Phenom%26%23153%3B+II+X6+Processor+/+8GB+M...
Just at a quick glance, this is a decent system to kinda base what you're looking for off of. The CPU is decent, good amount of RAM. The graphics could be a bit stronger, though you could always upgrade that.

I'm NOT an employee of Best Buy, or Geek Squad, though I did work as an Agent for a year 5 years ago. None of my posts are to be taken as the official stance that Best Buy will take on your situation. My advice is just that, advice.
Unfortunately, that's the bad luck of any electronic, there's going to be bad Apples... wait that's a horrible pun.

  • Samsung LN52A650 Audio - HDMI or Optical Cable

    Hello,
I purchased the Samsung LN52A650 in December and just had it mounted. I keep hearing conflicting opinions in regards to whether or not I need a digital optical cable for the audio or will an hdmi cable suffice? I have a Denon AVR1909 receiver and will be hooking a PS3 to it as well as a 7.2 speaker system. Will my hdmi cable carry the audio that i need? Thanks very much.
    Sincerely,
    VM The Prince

Actually, if you are wanting to use your PS3 as a BD player, and want to hear the HD audio codecs contained on BD movies, you have to use HDMI. Toslink won't carry the new codecs.

  • Auto detect "unplugged monitor", where to turn off?

I need to know this since windows thinks that my monitor gets unplugged when I turn it off and use displayport (DP) as a media to transfer the image. This will be a big issue for windows if its not fixed soon since DP more or less always registers as "unplugged"
    when the monitor is off.
Any1 know a solution to this problem? its bad when u need to change the resolution back to normal each time you start the computer and forgett to start one of the monitors...

then both NVidia and AMD got exactly the same bug in their cards. Here is a thread that describes the problem in more detail from other ppl with the same problem but with several diffrent cards and drivers. http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1507324.
Ive got a NVidia GTX 580 SLI setup and other ppl in the thread descibes the exact problem I have but with AMD cards. There are also several other threads that describes problems with displayport and monitors turned off.
This is clearly a windows fail and not a graphicscard bug since it works fine with HDMI which does not make the "new hardware detected" sound when you remove the monitor.
This needs to be fixed or atleast looked at. I cant really use my screen fully now (wanted to hook my PS3 via HDMI to the screen and my PC with DP as secondary monitor for the comp)
I can also add that I have the latest drivers for my GTX580 card (so dont ask me to update the drivers).

  • 5.1 Dolby through Digital IO Mod

I have an X-Fi XtremeMusic card and I'm using Vista 32-bit. I want to hook my PS3 up to my card and output in 5. through my computer speakers. I bought the Digital IO Module and connected my PS3 with an optical connection. When the PS3 sends two channel sound I get output just fine, but when it sends a 5. Dolby signal my soundcard complains that it's an invalid signal. I know that the soundcard can't decode the Dolby signal in Vista so I downloaded AC3Filter, but AC3Filter doesn't seem to be getting the signal. Is there something that I'm missing, or is it just not possible to have my computer do the decoding and output through its own speakers. If it helps, my speakers are the Logitech X-530's.
    Thanks

. As you pointed out DD/DTS decoding is not and will not be officially supported in Vista, although there is one workaround. 2. Even if you manage to enable the built-in decoder with the workaround, decoding from external sources is only available?with the ?I/O Dri've or Console, not from the digital module. 3. AC3Filter does not support decoding from external sources. Sorry but you are basically out of options unless you get an external decoder.
