Hooking up speakers, argh! :(

Hey there,
so I've had the powered KRK Rokits 6 for years and they ran through either an Behringer FC202 Firewire, or a Lexicon Alpha (USB). When they worked, they did so fine.
For some reason, both external soundcards stopped working. Water damage? Did I fry them? So I bought a Sewell 5.1. controller (USB) to use my nearfield speakers.
Turns out to be grayed out in the Midi/Audio setup. Downloaded Soundflower, but can't seem to make it work. Not for any sounds from the computer, nor through Logic Pro.
Is there a chance to get this running, or do I have to opt for another soundcard?
Thanks,
VN

Are your portable speakers powered? Do they have either an RCA/stereo minijack analog or optical digital inputs?

  • Can i hook up speakers to my tv to get better ound quality?

I have a media player hooked up to my tv and would like better sound quality. Can i hook up speakers to my tv? I couldn't find any port.

I'm trying to hook a surround sound to my tv to play sound off an hdmi set up but it seems like I can't get the hdmi connection to spit out audio to the surround sound system even though I have aux cords going in the audio space to the receiver. Is it because I can't have an hdmi converted to surround sound without a digital converter?

  • Hooking up speakers to hdtv?

I was wondering if a nice stereo receiver and speakers could be hooked up to an hdtv?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hey hickbubble,
You certainly can connect a stereo receiver to an HDTV!  In order to do so though, you would need to know what kind of connections your TV and the stereo receiver are able to support.  Most newer HDTV's and home theater systems will support a combination of HDMI, component, digital optical, and digital coaxial cables, but keep in mind that not all models will support all four options.

  • When playing videos, connects me to the airplay option of IPad or AirPort.  Can I hook up speakers to my Airport extreme to get a sharable/higher quality sound.

Is there some kind of USB hook up for speakers that can run off the airport extreme?  This will allow me to watch movies on my iPad with better sound.

I guess you could go with a USB audio connection on the extreme,
As the Jolly Giant points out, audio is not supported on the AirPort Extreme. There is no audio jack and the USB port will only support a compatible printer or hard drive. USB speakers are not supported.

  • Hooking up external speakers to iPhone

Can anyone hep me with an iPhone question. I'm at work and I tried to hook up speakers from my PC. These are regular computer speakers with the green audio plug. After I hook them up, there is no sound coming out of the speakers when I play a song. Music still comes out the iPhone speakers. Thanks

If you are trying to put the speaker plug in the iPhone headphone jack then odds are the plug is too large and is not going in all the way.
You can either get the $10 adapter or use the line out on the included dock.

  • Old speakers

What would be the best way to hook my ipod up to an older stereo system that uses the black/red stereo wires? I'd prefer just to use the large speakers and not have to go through the stereo receiver if at all possible. Is there a converter I could use to hook the speakers up to an airport express? Thanks for the help.

You will have to go thru the receiver to amplify the signal.
The iPod signal is to small to drive normal speakers by itself.

  • New computer - not seeing speakers for airtunes

Wasn't sure if this should go in the Airport section or iTunes section. My setup worked with old Vista machine - playing airtunes on surround sound.
Built a new Win7 64 machine, running latest iTunes (10.5.x I believe). I hooked up the Airport Express, loaded the config file and made one change - changed to WPA2 security. Updated the config and all went well. Plugged in AX and hooked up speakers. Got the green light on the AX, so figured I was good to go. When I open iTunes to select music, I don't see the option along the bottom to select other speakers. (When I say this worked on old setup, this means the AX has Airtunes checked in config file.) Thoughts? What did I leave out?

    1) In first post I mention I have that checked. And to be paranoid, I've looked about 10 times just to make sure I wasn't seeing things.
    2) I am running 6.3 (see third post). I am pretty sure mine is the 1st gen, no N. According to this link, I'm running the latest. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1998

  • Another question - old speakers to Apple TV?

HI, one more question, I have a pair of (great) Bose 501 Series V speakers that I want to keep using, they are maybe 15 years old... To hook up to the receiver they have a clip to wire and there is the same clips to wire on the back of the stereo receiver. I want to get rid of the receiver and still use the speakers with Apple TV. So the question is how can I hook these speakers up to Apple TV? thanks again Cheryl

as they are just now, you can't.
the original appletv has 2 options to speaker connection, optical or composite.

the new appletv only has optical or HDMI

  • Setting up multiple speakers w/ Airport 802.11g/n

    Hello..
I updated my Airport Express to the 802.11g/n model over the holidays and has set up a pair of wireless speakers via Airtunes.
I kept the older (pre 802.11g/n) AE as I was told that I could still hook up speakers to it via Airtunes.
So here is where I got stumped while setting the 2nd set speakers. I plug my older AE into the wall and the audio cable (from the 2nd set of speakers)
into the AE audio in port.
How do I get the wireless signal from the newer AE to read the older AE (where the 2nd set of speakers are plugged into) to channel music into a different
area of the home? I have a large studio size apt. with minimal interference.
Do I need to have another DSL line to run into the older AE so I can get the wireless signal to work for the 2nd set of speakers?
For some reason, I'm thinking this isn't necessary since I already have a wireless signal coming from the newer AE.
Any ideas as to what I may be missing here?
thanks as always in advance!  ~A~

So if I understand correctly, I would still plug in the older AE & audio cable, but have to set it up in

    Yes.
... My concern is that I won't be able to
to set up the older AE using the newer Airport Utility.
I'm guessing you've tested this before?
Yes. To administer your original Express, use AirPort Utility 5.6. It is compatible with Lion as well as Mountain Lion, however, the installer app will refuse to install it on Mountain Lion.
This dilemma is easily solved though. You simply need to extract the app from the installer package using a package extractor like Pacifist.
    Download Pacifist here: http://www.charlessoft.com/
Download AirPort Utility 5.6 here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
If you happen to have an archived copy of the AU 5.6 app somewhere, such as a Time Machine backup or equivalent, you can simply restore it or drag the app to your Mountain Lion system's Utilities folder. It will run without complaint. It is only the package installer that is the problem.
Mountain Lion will not allow you to delete its existing version of AirPort Utility. Just ignore it. It and the older version (which will bear the unique name "AirPort Utility 5.6") can peacefully coexist.
Note: For those with Leopard or Snow Leopard systems you need AirPort Utility 5.6.1 (this is confusing - a later AirPort Utility version for an earlier OS X version - but it is correct).
Download AirPort Utility 5.6.1 here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1536

  • External Speakers - System Volume at Startup

I recently hooked external speakers up to my macbook, and I've been experiencing an annoying problem. Whenever I start or restart the macbook, the system volume turns itself down to 50 percent, i.e at the time I shut the macbook down, the system volume is up to max volume; I then restart and it turns down to 50 percent.
Any ideas on how I can get it to stay at 100 percent unless I turn it down manually -- the same way the internal speakers work -- or is this just a system quirk designed to protect my sensitive ears and/or speakers?
Macbook 2 GHz Processor   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2 GB RAM Upgrade

    Hi
You should be able to set the startup volume setting to whatever you like using MacOS X's Automator. The appropriate script is in the "System" category. Just modify it by putting the slider to the desired value. You don't have to save after the modification because it's a standard startup script that is used by MacOS X itself automatically after reboot.

  • Mac mini, several speakers

Hi, If I have a mac mini as a media solution in my house, can I put speakers in different rooms and control them separately in some way?

You can hook your speakers up to the Airport Express in different rooms, and select which ones to activate in iTunes.

  • Digital speakers

Hi I'm looking for some digital speakers that can connect to my G5 optical out and allow me to monitor while video editing in FCP Studio. Does anyone have any experience of the Edirol MA-15D micro monitors that are on the Apple store site? And crucially (given other posts) do they allow volume control?
    G5 dual core 2.3Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   MacBookPro

What format video are you editing? DV?, HDV, SD?
If DV, are you are monitoring your work through firewire out>A/DV converter>video and audio monitors? If you are, you don't want to hook the speakers directly to the computer - they need to be connected to your A/DV converter's audio out.
Most of the converters I know use simple RCA connections or a 1/8" stereo plug for line out. There maybe some that use optical ... but, if not, you'll need another set of speakers.
I have no idea what you mean by 'given other posts' - what posts?
    Is there more to this?

  • Creative Inspire 5200 - Rear speakers echoing effect

The front 3 speakers are fine - sound is normal, crisp and clear. But the 2 rear speakers have sorta fuzzy echoing thing going on... it's kinda hard to describe. And I just want to know is this normal... Maybe creating a surroudn sound illusion thing... ?

Hey budd would you try a bios update and see if that don't help all you need to do is visit the computer companys website if it's a brand computer and look for there support page then downloads and bios updates but if you built the computer or some one else did then get the motherboard model from them or google search for software that can find the model and junk like that and see if you can get that bios upfated and after you update it preset the bios to defaults then try the sound again and see if that don't make a diffrence?
You just may have to get a new soundcard as well for the sytem to work with the card. I hear a lot about them 5.1 cards having problems with some of these new suround systems and it seems to be a incompatibility isue but thats up to you I mean if you wanted to try you could hook the speakers to another computer and see if you get better luck and if so you know it's the card
Good Luck and sorry if this is not what kind of news you were looking for but this is all that I can come up with

  • Sound Blaster Z Series - Outputting audio on speakers and headphones at same time?

    Hey all,
I got a Zx at the beginning of the year as a gift and really liking it so far. Finally got around to hooking up speakers to it and they sound good, but I wasn't getting any output from them at first. Then I realized you have to switch in the SB control panel between them and the headphones; also downloaded the SBZ Switcher which definitely helps with quick switches.
Question though, is there any way to enable output on both speakers and headphones at the same time? Based on what I've read, the switching is done by a relay in the card so I'm guessing it's impossible for both of them to be engaged at the same time. Though if this was doable, it would be awesome to have outputs for both the channels and configure some software to use one or the other. It'd be nice to listen to music on the speakers while routing other stuff through the headphones. If all else fails, maybe I can get Creative to RMA the Titanium HD that this card replaced and run dual sound cards; that should definitely work =D.
    Cheers and thanks in advance!

Yes, that's right. And I want to switch simply between speakers and headphones. Only one with sound, the other mute. At the moment, when I plug in my headphones, the speakers becomes mute. That's ok, but . I always want to let my headphones connected and 2.1 when I switch sound to the speakers, the sound also comes out of the headphones. It's not possbile to mute the headphones only. There must be a way.

  • Need a little help wih speakers

This is not specifically Logic Pro related, but it seemed like the best place to ask. I need wires to hook up speakers to a power source. I have the Blue Sky Audio EXO's and have been using them, but I also have some Acoustic Audio monitors, and was thinking I would use the speakers that came with EXO for up front, but was hoping to hook up the monitors behind me. All I have is the wires that came with the EXO's. So I have two questions. The back of my sub woofer is what sends the power to the monitors. Is it ok to just stick two wires into the connection in the sub woofer, one going to the original EXO's and the other to the pair of moniters I would have behind me? Also, what are these wires called? I need a name to look for to know where to buy them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you hook up speakers behind you from the same source, it will not be surround. Having extra speakers to the rear will most likely cause odd problems with your stereo imaging and with phase cancellation, and will exacerbate any issues your room has with standing waves.
That being said, it is possible to connect two sets of speakers to the same source. If they are wired in parallel as you describe the impedance load on the amp will the average of the impedance of the two sets of speakers. Depending on the speakers, and the amp, this may sound ok or may not. Also you will have no way of balancing the levels of the two sets this way, and the chance that the speaker output will match is slight.
So, I'd suggest giving it a try with a set of equal length low capacitance speaker wires (not such a large investment for an experiment that will in all likelihood fail) And then get another amp as suggested. You'll need one anyway if you decide to use true surround.
