Hooking up xbox 360 to my mac

i was wondering if there was a way to hook up an xbox 360 to my mac so I can use the macbook pro's screen as a tv of sorts. I am in college and dont have a tv, nor want to cart my 360 to the lounge to hook it up. it would be easiest to hook it up to the macbook pro but i am not sure what cables are needed or how to go about doing it, if at all possible. feedback is appreciated

In short form, the answer is no you dont want to do this. It is possible by using a tv type input or capture card which can either interface with usb or express card slot. The extreme downfall to doing this is there will be significant lag. Such as when you press a button on the controller for the character to shoot, you wont actually see it on the screen for over a second. The reason for this is the capture card has to convert the video signal into the something the computer can display, and this takes time. Again its possible, but the delay would make it impossible to play proficiently... My advise as a college student my self is to hit up a garage sale for a cheap tv to put in your dorm..

how to install wired xbox 360 controller on mac mavericks?
    i installed this driver
    http://files.tattiebogle.net/360/360ControllerInstall.dmg
    but is not working

    @mtnbkr81,
So you are trying to use the wireless controller? All that I have read points to more reliability for the wired when using it on a computer. Perhaps you should save money for a wired one?
I also forgot to mention the installation procedures on the .11 version. My controller does get recognized but as a genereric controller. Not specific to xbox360. But you can try this:
-Uninstall the pref pant and the couple of other files that have been written to your MAC. Use the search on "controller"
-once deleted run the .11 version of tthe driver. MAKE SURE THE CONTROLLER IS NOT IN THE USB PORT.
-after the installation is complete open up preferences adn you should see an xbox360 option
-open it and then plug in the controller
-it should then get recognized. You may need to play with some of the options.

  • I want to hook my xbox 360 up to my 2011 27" Cinema display, is this possible?

I have a 2011 27" Cinema Display and I want to know if there's any way at all to hook my Xbox-360 up to the display to use it. TIA.

If you connect yourMacBook using a MiniDVI/HDMI adapter you will need to use external speakers for audio since the pre-2010 MacBooks will only send video through the MiniDVI or MiniDisplay Port . The MiniDVI/HDMI doesn't carry audio and there's no audio plugs on the TV to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI.
If your TV has a DVI input plug you can use a MiniDisplayPort/DVI adapter. Then a DVI cable to the DVI input plug on the TV. The TV will have RCA audio plugs for use with the DVI. Plus DVI gives a sharper image than HDMI.

  • TROUBLE CONNECTING XBOX 360 WIRELESSLY TO MAC AIRPORT EXTREME NETWORK

Hi, and thanks for looking. Here are the facts in a nutshell.
    1. Xbox 360, set up for wireless connection.
    2. Wireless network, all apple equipment. Main Base station is the new Airport Extreme, hooked to a Cable Modem (Toshiba), with transmission via Comcast Internet.
    3. All wireless connections between Mac computers, and Dell PC's working flawlessly, including multiple printers.
4.Cannot connect to XBox 360 because when attempting to wireless network not recognized. When editing Wireless connection, by manually typing in the Network Name, and the WPA password, still does not work.
    5. Incidentally, I have had this XBox connected before, until I purchased the new Airport Extreme Station (the rectangular one). What has changed? For one thing I added WPA security, and secondly, I got rid of a Netgear Router that I had been using for better distance, at the end of the Airport extreme chain. So the equipment is slightly different, and the security is definately different.
So please, someone tell me what I must do to have the XBox connect to a Mac AEx Network, that has WPA security, and then, how do I get XBox to recognize a computer.
Prior to this, without security, and with a netgear router as an ethernetted remote to an Airport Extreme, the XBox could get on the network, and see a Dell computer for programming. Now it can't do any of that. Sorry to be so long winded.
I've tried everything including turning the firewall off the Dell. I even tried putting the Netgear back on the network by ethernet, which then allowed the 360 to log on wirelessly, but, still could not see the Dell, even with the firewall off. Thank you

You should really search for your question in the Airport forum found here <http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=140>. The forum you've posted in is dedicated to Macintosh and Windows compatibility issues. While XBox 360 and Windows are both Microsoft products they are not the same thing.
I think you'll find that many folks with the new Airport Extreme base stations are having compatibility issues with many devices when trying to use any security. The best workarounds are to either hide the SSID and restrict access using the network hardware address while using no wireless security, plug the XBox 360 directly into the station with an Ethernet cable or not use the new Airport base station altogether.
Good luck finding your answer! bill

  • Using an XBox 360 controller with Mac mini

Is it difficult to pair a 360 game controller to a Mac mini? I do most of my gaming with my iPad + Apple tv and it usually works fine, but Bioshock is Bioshock so I'm thinking of getting that and an XBox controller.

    Hello
    Maybe the controller is faulty.
Have you tested it on your Xbox 360 and does it work?
Can you also test another controller?

  • Looking for descent, affordable wired router so I can hook up XBox 360-iMac

I just got an XBox 360, and I'd like to use the XBox Live features. Could anyone suggest a dependable, wired router that wouldn't cost much more than fifty dollars? I really have no need to go wireless, and besides I'd have to buy the wireless adaptor for the XBox 360 if I did. There's also usually at least one or two Bit Torrents running on my G5 iMac.
More importantly, I'd like to know if having the XBox Live online would interfere with the bit torrents running on the iMac, and should I expect to see a major decrease in upload/download speed on running torrents?
    Thanks for any suggestions!

Visit DealMac and see what router deal they have located. Typically in the Sunday paper you can find several for $20 or less after rebate.

  • Wired xbox 360 controller with Mac (steam)

I am new to steam but is there a way to have a 360 controller plug into your Mac via USB (do u need a special commuter controller or a adapter?) and use it to play games with steam? Also with steam can u plug in a 360 headset to talk or even get a Bluetooth for the computer to work with steam, any help would be great.

This guy has made a great driver package that works with both the 360 wired and wireless+receiver controllers: http://tattiebogle.net/index.php/ProjectRoot/Xbox360Controller/OsxDriver. After install, there's a preference pane in System Preferences which you can configure and test the controllers. However, the 360 wired headset (the one that plugs into the controller) doesn't work. I dunno about the wireless 360 headset (the one that directly connects to the receiver) but I imagine it wouldn't.
As for other headsets with Steam, any microphone that the system recognizes will work. Go into Steam's settings and configure which mic you want to use with Steam. Unfortunately (this is my major annoyance with Valve's stuff on both Mac and Windows) you cannot configure voice to come through another speaker. So if your headset has a speaker, it won't be used. Voice will come out the same speakers as the game's sound. Annoying.

  • BT Infinty, Xbox 360 and a Mac book pro! Slooooooo...

    Hi all,
Iv just switched from talk-talk where I was receiving around 2 mbps. I was delighted when I ran the speedtest.net and saw 37mbps with BT infinity!!
However! Everything seems so much slower with it, web pages take ages before even loading! Im running Firefox on a 2011 Mac book pro.
And to make things worse, im now experiencing serious lag on COD on the Xbox as well as the whole thing just disconeccting(NAT setting show as open).
Highly fustrating and it just dosent make sense! Could it be BTs router?? Im running everything wirelessly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Sudadipps,
I would try the Xbox on a wired connection and see if that makes a difference, also try and check your NAT settings on the xbox.  Best option for NAT is open, if its anything but that the its a router issue and some configurations need to be amended.
Remember that using multiple wireless signals halves the data received via wifi.
    Example
Wifi N signal can receive upto 300 mbps
if you have say 5 devices using wifi to the router than you would do (300/5=60)
Which means each device gets a max connection data rate to the router of 60 mbps.
Also to factor in is Floors/Walls/Other wifi devices (E.g. DECT Phones) can also reduce that wifi data rate down futher

i wnat to know how or if i can hook up my xbox 360 to my mac pro 27 as a screen to play games

I suppose you can. You're talking about the desktop Mac Pro, right?
just takin' a stab at it here, but I think elgato has a game capture box which might be helpful. It does mention xbox 360 and ps3.  if it's for a MacBook Pro, I can't say for sure. Maybe blackmagic??

  • Xbox 360 and WRT54G v8 SBC Ameritech

I have done extensive searching on this forum and many others to no avail. I cannot get my xbox 360 to find an IP address. I have the router setup and can get internet from all of my PC's and Mac's through it. I am wondering if the problem is the modem from SBC - it is an Efficient Speedstream 5260 and if I hook the Xbox 360 directly to it with the PPoE settings typed in, it still will not find an IP. Thought that going through the router might solve that. Weirdest thing is the first couple tests I did through the Xbox dashboard passed every test, but still could not connect to Live, and now it will not go farther than the failed IP test. Problem is that where I am I cannot upgrade my modem because I cannot risk all the problems I had getting this 5260 to work. By day it is my work internet, and I can't afford to be down even for a day. So I am hoping there is a fix for the equipment I have.

    Hi,
Try assigning a static IP address on XBOX as following:
    IP:192.168.1.10
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    gateway:192.168.1.1
    Hope it works for you

  • Playing Xbox 360 through a MBP ... picture included

Hey, so I've been digging around trying to figure out a way to play my xbox360 through my MBP. I'm in college, so its really nice having a mobile screen, compared to having to lug around a computer monitor or t.v.
Apparently, the most common problem with most devices is that they give some sort of "lag" when playing the game. However, one guy said his layout worked fine, and he provided a picture. Naturally, he didn't specify the details of his setup. Here's the picture he provided though, if that helps anyone.

Do a search on google, there seems to be a fair amount of stuff which will help you.
I found this article which explains how to hook up a 360 to a mac mini, but the procedure should be pretty much the same for a MBP.
