(Hopefully Simple) Question - Launching Apps.

So, this is probably an incredibly simple thing, but I have to ask...
At some point, while using OmniGraffle, I did something that is now causing my initial "Create a Template" / "Open Existing File" to pop up on my 2nd monitor. This is driving me a little crazy and is interrupting my workflow.
Any idea where I configure this preference so these types of menus start popping-up on my main monitor again?

Close the app and check the Preferences folder in your user account. Toss whichever .plist file is obviously named for OmniGraffle. Don't delete the old .plist quite yet. If the issue doesn't change when you restart the app, then you can put the old file back instead of having to redo all of the application preferences to your liking.

Dynamic select --hopefully simple question

I have read alot of threads on doing a dynamic select. I am have no knowledge of AJAX so this is tough for me. I have looked at Denes and Carl's examples. I have one question and I hope its a simple one. I have two select lists. The second field is dependent on the input from the first box. I know we put a query that should bringin the on demand process but is this query the result for the second box or do I need to put the same query in the LOV box for the second field?
For example, the first select list contains module names, based on the module name the user picks, the names in the module should populate the second select list. In the lov for the first select list, I have a query for the modules. In the on demand process, I have a query that takes uses the module name to look for the users, and in the the second select list, I have the query that does the same thing as the query in the on demand process. What do I put in the lov for the second select list.

Wanted to ask you guys what I was missing. In my event log as the title implies I have a Event ID 2 Task Category (2) error in Lenovo Message Center Plus Admin coming as a result of a 404 error. Issue is I don't know what page it is looking for when it is tossing me the 404 error. Is this a result of Lenvo Updater goofing up using the ADM templates for GPO or is this something else? Would be helpful if it registred the non working link it was trying to obtain so we could isolate it better. Thoughts on this? Thanks!

try this when you download the file save it to your download folder then right click it and run as admin. it says there is no Lenovo Digital Signature I tried to install it didn't work but I did it this way and it worked

Extreme & Express (hopefully) simple question

I've got an AEBS that I'm trying to connect to an Express to play iTunes on my stereo. Do I also need a PCI Airport card in my G4 to enable this feature?
I thought the AEBS just plugged into the ethernet socket and acted like an external version of an internal Airport card. The Airport icon doesn't show up in the network connection or menu bar.
Bit of a first timer in the whole wireless connection area, does it show? I guess there's a simple answer, help me people.

That's normal. You don't need an AirPort connection from
your Mac to your AEBS. You may use the Ethernet connection.
Your will have to configure your AEBS through your Ethernet
connection.
I advise you to carefully read your documentation about
the way to make such a configuration.

When I do a keyword search thru the drop down list and I have for example 6 words checked off, how can I clear the checkmarks in one shot. I have a lot of keywords and sometimes forget to uncheck one . Thanks

Un-checking then rechecking the checkbox to the left of the rule doesn't clear the selections made from among the keywords (as the OP puts it "clear the checkmarks in one shot") for me (3.4.5 on 10.8.5). Did this change in Mavericks?
No, it did not change.
It disables the keywords temporarily and I add a second rule. I do it sometimes, if I want to switch quickly between two sets of keyword selections and want to save the old selection.

I have a mid-2010 MBP. After installing ML I began experiencing kernel panics after a day or so. The system kept rebooting and couldn't stay on for longer than 2 minutes. It made the loud beeps indicating RAM issues, and the screen sometimes flashed weirdly. I could boot from an external clone, so the problem was the hard drive in the end.
I installed a new SSD (Samsung 830) and 8GB of RAM from Kingston. Everything went fine for a day, them kernel panics started again, with those beeps, 3 beeps and other beeps at different frequencies. I think this time was a problem with the new RAM as switching to the old ones let's the computer work fine.
Installing the old ones again worked fine, but moving the computer makes it freeze, so they're probably defective. When it booted, though, I noticed a strange issue, which is the topic of this question:
Launching apps like Byword, Espresso or AppZapper made the color temperature change for, an hot to a cold tone. Quitting returned it to normal. Other apps, like apple's or Reeder worked fine. Launching these after one of the "cold" ones didn't restore it to normal. Rebooting sometimes solved the issue, it's not a consistent problem. Booting from an external clone of the current setup or an old one doesn't show the issue
With the old original RAM this is less evident, but there's still a slight change with the said apps.
I should try again with the clone to see if the change is slight and I didn't notice it, it may alway have been there from the start actually.
Could it be a video card problem as the Apple Support guy told me? Am I this unlucky and my Kac is falling apart all the way?
There is to say that I cannot afford to send it to Apple to check (which would take a couple of weeks) for a couple of months, as I need the computer.
Have anyone seen this too?

Or you can actived the right button on your magic mouse and click on they icon in the dock. then you select "stop" and it's out of your dock.

Launch apps one at a time and disable iTunes at startup

Hey guys
I have two questions:
The first one is, is there any way to launch apps at Login but one after the other and not all at the same time? For instance, I would like to launch Adobe Ps, then Ai after Ps loaded, then Mail, and then others. Is this possible?
The second one is, how can I disable iTunes from launching at Login? I've checked my Starup Items and iTunes is not on the list. Also, I've right clicked the icon in the Dock and "Open at Login" is disable as well but it keeps launching every single time I start up my computer.
Any helps is much appreciated.

In my case, I do need to launch Adobe Ps, Ai and Br, Mail, iChat, Safari, Pages and Cinema 4D every single day for work. Almost everything opens up fast, but like you said, Adobe apps take a lot of memory so they take longer to open. I really hate waiting for these to open up, so I'm looking for a way to make them launch one at a time as soon as I get into the office while I take care of some paper work.
In that case I don't think you need to put in a delay in between the apps to make sure the next only opens after the earlier is finished. I open 5 apps every morning with no delay in between and it always goes smoothly and very fast. Try that first then you can go back and edit the workflow to add the pauses in if you need it.
Is Automator user friendly? I've never used it before. Is it very easy to understand and setup?
It's very user friendly. I've only made about 3 apps (each workflow can be saved as it's own application), the launching multiple application being the last one and it was very easy, took about 5 minutes to create. Of course, someone on here had told me how to do it so that made it very easy.
Unfortunately, I haven't upgraded to Leopard yet and it looks like the interface is very different from Tiger. In Tiger when you open Automator it gives you a list of applications on the left, click on one to select and it will then give you a list of actions available for that application just to the right of that. Double click on the action and it adds it in as your workflow in a large space on the right.
In this case the app I chose was Finder, then Launch Application action. When that is added to the workflow I then had a popup menu of all my apps in my Applications folder so I would just choose the one I wanted. There is even an Other at the bottom to choose an app from elsewhere in case you have any outside the main Applications folder.
To add the pause select Automator from the left hand list of apps and you get a new list of actions, double click on Wait For User Action, which it will put right under the app you are launching as the next step. You can then set the time for how long you want it to wait.
Then go back to Finder and Launch Application and repeat the process for each app you want to open. All the actions in the workflow can be dragged around as much as you want to create a different order.
Very simple. Leopard's interface works differently but I suspect you still need to choose Finder to get to Launch Application and Automator to get to Wait For User Action. Each app has it's own set of actions it can perform but they can all be added together for a workflow.
Then save it as an app and put it on your desktop, or where ever you want, so you can double click to run it then walk away until it's done. Even after saving it you can go back in and edit it at any time, if you wanted to take an app out or add one in, for instance, or want a shorter or longer pause time, etc.

SIMPLE QUESTION - EXTERNAL iSIGHT CAMERA

I just have a simple question...
I was using an older iMac G5 with an external iSight camera and just upgraded to a new 24" iMac. Can the external iSight camera still be used on an iMac with a built-in camera?
The cable with the external camera allows for more flexible viewing capability.

The second part of your question is not quite so simple.
Plug your external iSight in and turn it on. If you like, you can use the suggestions from How to test your (external) iSight to ensure it is functional to be sure it is working with your new iMac.
The answer to your question about the "default camera" depends on which application you are using to operate your iSight. Here is how camera selection works in a few example:
(1) For iChat, you can choose which iSight you use in the "Camera:" choices bar in iChat > Preferences... > Audio/Video that appears when more than one compatible camera is connected. Although your camera choices will be different, the choices bar will look something similar to the Preferences settings shown here:
Most other applications also have settings that allow you to choose which camera to use. However, they do not all work the same way.
(2) For instance, iMovie's camera choice is NOT set via Preferences. When you have more than one compatible camera connected, iMovie uses a drop-down menu choice something like this (depending on which version of iMovie you use):
Note: Because I have no built-in iSight, when my external iSight is disconnected, the drop-down menu shows only "Time Lapse." Because your iMac has a built-in iSight, your built-in iSight will show in the drop-down menu even when no other camera is connected. Connecting your external iSight should allow you to choose either camera.
(3) Photo Booth is such a simple, basic app that it offers no menu selectable choice. Unless you make your built-in iSight the camera being used by some open application before you launch Photo Booth, Photo Booth will use ONLY your built-in iSight.
However, you can use the trick from ¶ 4 of http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302781 to let Photo Booth use your Firewire external iSight:
• Connect your external iSight and turn it on.
• Quit Photo Booth (PB) if it is running.
• Launch any app with a user-selectable camera "Preferences..." menu command.
(The "tip" suggests that you use iChat, but others should work as well.)
• Open "Preferences..." and set the camera "Preference" to use your built-in iSight.
• Now launch PB. PB should now use the external iSight
because your built-in camera is in use by the other application.

A simple question on random number generation?

This is a rather simple question and shows my newbieness quite blatantly!
I'm trying to generate a random number in a part of a test I have.
So, I have a little method which looks like this:

        return random.nextInt(number);
    }And in my code I do int random = getRandomNumber(blah)...where blah is always the same number.
My problem is it always returns the same number. What am I missing here. I was under the impression that nextint(int n) was supposed to generate the number randomly!! Obviously I'm doing something wrong or not using the correct thing. Someone please point out my stupidity and point me in the right direction? Ta

I think the idea is that Random will generate the same pseudo-random sequence over and over if you don't supply a seed value. (The better to debug with, my dear.) When you're ready to put an app into production, the seed value should be the current system time in milliseconds to guarantee a new sequence with each run.
Do indeed move Random outside the loop. Think of it like a number factory - instantiate it once and let it pump out the random values for you as needed.

Using SSL with client auth from a JNLP-launched app

We have an application that is launched by JNLP, and which needs to make a mutually authenticated SSL connection to a server. The client cert and trusted certs that it needs to do this are stored in the Sun\Java\Deployment\security directory where JNLP knows to look for them. And Java WebStart itself seems to be able to use these certs just fine. However, our app seems blithely unaware of the location of the keystore/truststore unless we explicitly set the system properties javax.net.ssl.keystore and truststore. But we don't want to do that (it could be different for different users), and we shouldn't have to do that. So the question is, how can we use the same KeyManager/TrustManager that Java WebStart itself is using? Are they somehow available for the JNLP-launched app to use?
Failing that, is there a way for a JNLP-launched app to query the deployment properties? There are a bunch of properties to direct the behavior of Java WebStart (see [http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/deployment/deployment-guide/properties.html]), such as deployment.user.security.trusted.cacerts. These don't seem to be System properties. Can the app see them, or are the "private" to Java WebStart itself?

Very simple question, how do you configure windows 8.1 to use a SD card / external drive as the default install location for software applications? Primarily interested in apps installed from the windows store. This should be available in the settings

The registry method does not work with 8.1. I found this out the hard way. Doing it on 8.1 will leave you reinstalling the OS if you didn't do a SRP beforehand.

Simple Question - How do I deploy custom taglibs to Oracle 9iAS r2?

Simple question.
There are lots of simple examples on JSP custom tags that have
a .tld file, a .java file with the handler class, and a .jsp
file that calls the custom tag to test it.
My question is, lets say I have a .tld file, a .java file and
a .jsp file for a tag example. How do I deploy them to
Oracle 9iAS r2? I'd like to code an example and deploy it,
but I'm stuck. I'm using Jdeveloper 9i, and have compiled the
.java file and included it and the .tld in a Custom Taglib JAR.
How is this JAR deployed to Oracle 9iAS, considering that the
Enterprise Manager only deploys WAR and EAR files? How do
a configure a web app to use the custom tags...
This should be simple -- maybe its too simple so I'm stuck!
