Horizontal Barcode-Like Lines

I have a 1Ghz iBook G4 and I have these horizontal lines (with vertical lines in them) across my screen. They change colors depending on what is displayed on the screen and if I put my cursor behind it, a portion of the lines turn black where the cursor would be. I have heard that this may be an issue with my logic board but I would like to know if this is a display issue as I can more easily replace that.

I had the same problem two weeks ago. I took it to a Genius at the local Apple Store and they told me to replace the logic board. That fixed it (but now I'm having trackpad problems).
If your computer is out of warranty, they will replace the logic board for about $300. Good luck!

    Issue with an Imac 20".
    Not mine, sadly, a friend of mines. I say sadly as he hasn't bought applecare and can't afford it right now!
    I'd installed 10.5, and it kept not booting (with the sold blue screen appearing), then sometimes it would freeze with grey 'barcode' like lines and graphical distortion behind the mouse.
    So I reformatted it with 10.4 and the same thing happens, except without the freezing on startup.
    Apple hardware test comes up fine. So does techtool.
    No fault found.
    Any ideas? Literally he's at the end of his tether living with the issue.
    I've found other thread indicating in other machines it was graphics cards, but as I say, AHT comes up clean and, as far as we know you can't change an imac graphics card.

    I understand your viewpoint, and if my machine was in warranty or I'd remebered to get AppleCare in time the iMac would be off to Apple to sort out.
    It's out of warranty however, and from informal enquiries I've made at the local reseller repair costs would be ludicrously high so stuck with the option of a frequently crashing machine or one that can be improved by a free software solution the choice for many is clear.
    With the software I have a usable machine that can run for days without problems, without it will have issues within minutes to hours of startup. This may well be patching over cracks in the plaster with a component on the way out that'll make the whole thing keel over one day, but that's life.
    Interstingly, something that only dawned on me today is that the temps really don't seem that high - oculd the temp sensors actually be faulty and reading too low, preventing fan speed rising with significant thermal overload.

  • Images saved in Photoshop appear with distortion horizontally across - like a faint line

    Images saved in Photoshop appear with distortion horizontally across - like a faint line.
    It happens in all formates I try such as JPEG, TIFF, PDF and PSD files.
    It looks like broken pixel lines across and if it runs through a word or logo can break it up.
    Please help???

    I know you cant see probably from the photo below as I had to try to block out the faces, but the person on the far right, under her eyes you can see almost a double eye and then if you follw that line across the 2nd person from left look like funny chin.
    This distortion happens horizontally.
    Also see the letter number below. That break line runs across the entire page but is obviously more noticable in different areas of the image.

  • Horizontal black/dotted lines on Apple Studio Display

    As of about six hours ago, my screen is suddenly showing several horizontal 1px thick lines at the top of the screen; they are usually black but sometimes change to alternating black and white dotted line when a window is moved around in the area they're covering. They were not there this morning when I used the computer, they just showed up without warning. I've restarted the system to no avail; any suggestions on next steps or ideas of what might be going on here?

    Hi bogisan
    To clarify, I mentioned in my original post that I'd tested with DV and got the same problem...
    dewshi wrote:
    Actually, it shows the same issue displaying DV-PAL!
    Although I'm working with ProRes, I have already experimented with playing out DV on a DV timeline, which should be less demanding than ProRes, as you're suggesting.
    It doesn't look to me like the familiar cheese-grater artefact associated with interlacing issue as there's only one break in the image, rather than mismatching alternative lines when there is horizontal motion. I've tried different sequence settings for the field order, with no difference.
    I'm wondering if the display is out of sync? It literally looks like the screen has been sliced by a razor 1/3 of the way down, and the bottom part is a different frame to the top. It happens when I scrub through the timeline too, but stabilises once parked on single frame.
    By the way, I've also checked that the MBP has switched to the NVIDIA card rather than the slower, less energy consuming Intel video card.
    Will check out the MBP forum too...

  • CRXIR2 - A chart with horizontal and vertical lines?

    Good morning,
    Is it possible to create a chart with horizontal and vertical lines?
    I have a chart where the Y-Axis show the percentage and the X-Axis shows a timeline.
    The horizontal line shows the percentage for the points in time.
    Now I would like to mark some special points in time on the X-Axis with a straight vertical line.
    Is there a way to do that?
    Thank you very much in advance
    Christoph

    Hello Usama,
    unfortunatelly I couldn't find that that feature in the basic chart features.
    Also the webpage www.3DGraphics.com doesn't exist and I had no luck to google for 3DGraphics.
    It's a little strange, that it seems to be possible to draw one additional horizontal line with the basic features, but no additional vertical line.
    for example.
    If the main chart would be y=3x+1
    It seems to be possible to draw e.g. y=5
    But I see no chance to draw x=5
    In addition, to make it a little more complicated, I would need to have that dynamically, based on the values of a sql-statement.
    thx

    YOU can't fix it.  But you can bring it in to Apple for an out of warranty replacement for $199.

  • Pdf files print with horizontal and vertical lines

    All of a sudden, today, when I print pdf files, they print with horizontal and vertical lines.  I thaught it was the computer or printer. So I printed from another computer on the network, and printed to a different printer with the same result.  It is not just that one pdf file either, I have tried multiple files.  HELP.  Does anyone have any ideas?

    It is not clear how you are creating the files. It appears that they were created by Distiller from PS files that were created in some way. I also noted that you are using AA8.1.0. You may want to try to update (do all the updates in order) as a possible fix. It may be in the creation process also. Several packages will split large graphics into parts and create the image. I think this is a characteristic of OFFICE 2007 (docx) files - but I am not sure yet. Tell us how you created the files - step by step, including the scan.
    If you have the original documents, why not simply print to the Adobe PDF printer. The result would be smaller and a lot cleaner.

    I think this is an excellent indicator that not only is Palm reviewing the feedback from the support forums here, but actively reviewing feedback/comments/wishes on other sites as well.
    As the original poster copied this (quite solid, IMO) wishlist from Pre Central, the palm support staff acknowledged first seeing it there.

  • How to get Horizontal Slider in line with text?

    Hi,
    I am trying to put my horizontal sliders in line with text information, but for some reason the alignmentbase property does not work. Any tips?
    The code I use now:
    <s:Panel id= "ViewTracksPanel"
                     title = "Viewing settings"
                     width="100%"
                     height="100%">
                <s:layout>
                    <s:VerticalLayout paddingLeft="10" paddingTop="10" paddingBottom="10"/>
                </s:layout>
                <s:VGroup >
                    <s:HGroup gap="30">
                        <s:RadioButton group="{viewingtype}" id="viewtrackHistory" label="Track History" value="History" />
                        <s:RadioButton group="{viewingtype}" id="viewLatestLocation" label="Current Position" value="LatestLocation"/>    <!--does not work because precision of data is not inline with interval precision    -->
                    </s:HGroup>
                    <s:HGroup right="40">
                        <mx:Text text="Track Time Interval: {timeInt.value} Minutes "/>
                        <s:Label text="1"/>
                        <s:HSlider stepSize="1" minimum="1" maximum="60" id="timeInt" width="200" dataTipPrecision="0" change="timeInt_changeHandler(event)" alignmentBaseline="ideographicBottom" />
                        <s:Label text="60"/>
                        <s:Label/>
                    </s:HGroup>
                    <s:HGroup>
                        <mx:Text text="Display Time Interval: {Speed.value} Seconds"/>
                        <s:Label text="1"/>
                        <s:HGroup>
                            <s:HSlider stepSize="1" minimum="1" maximum="5" id="Speed" width="200" dataTipPrecision="0" alignmentBaseline="ideographicBottom"/>
                        </s:HGroup>
                        <s:Label text="5"/>
                    </s:HGroup>
                    <s:Label/>
    This results in:
    As seen above, the slider (& corresponding labels) are not on the same 'horizontal line/position' as the mx Text (ex. 'Track Time Interval' but a bit above?
    I tried to put alignmentbaseline to all possible values but whithout succes.
    Any advice would be really great!
    Thanks.

    I just did one line but I think you want this
            <s:HGroup verticalAlign="baseline">
                <mx:Text text="Display Time Interval: {Speed.value} Seconds"/>
                <s:Label text="1"/>
                <s:HSlider stepSize="1" minimum="1" maximum="5" id="Speed" width="200" dataTipPrecision="0"/>
                <s:Label text="5"/>
            </s:HGroup>
    Also you don't need to wrap everything in a VGroup if you have a vertical layout - pick one or the other.

  • Horizontal Blue/White lines

    I have read lots about Vertical lines on G5s but little about my newly discovered problem
    I have a G5 fully updated 10.5.6- 1.9 GHz 1.5 GB mem. Horizontal Blue/White lines have appeared in columns about 25mm wide, all over the screen.
    As I type they seem to go all fuzzy and change to a darker blue - I find this very distracting but so far I am able to use my machine with not too much difficulty, except that the fault doesn't help when I need to use my Photoshop software, inasmuch that the blue/white lines seem to dominate the background of the photos.
    Has anyone got any ideas?

    This happens if your inverter cable gets damaged, or your inverter board gets shorted. Take it in for service.

  • Read a barcode(including line feeds) into text item

    When I scan a bar code from a text item, I am unable to retrieve line feeds that are in a barcode. I need line feeds to retrieve various values encoded in the barcode. When I scan the same code on a notepad, I get output in multi-lines. But, oracle forms is removing the line feeds when I scan barcode in a text item. Please advice. Forms Version is 10g

    It gave me output of 10.
    Original string looks like this with control charactes <LF> and <CR>.
    @<LF><CR>ansi 636049030002dl00410466zn05070057dldcabcde<LF>dcbbcdefjklmw
    I have to get hold of <LF> character because it is used as delimiter for data values in barcode. But, when I scan it in oracle forms item, it is not reading <LF> character. Based on what you suggested, using dump and ascii, it ilooks like it is reading carriage return <CR> as CHR(10) and not <LF>. There is one more <LF> in the string and forms text item is not recognizing it. Dump output is shown below:
    @,^J,A,N,S,I, ,6,3,6,0,4,9,0,3,0,0,0,2,D,L,0,0,4,1,0,4,6,6,Z,N,0,5,0,7,0,0,5,7,D,L,D,C,A,B,C,D,E,D,C,B,B,C,D,E,F,J,K,L,M,W,

  • Horizontal Interlaced Scanning Lines in iDVD6

    I can confirm some help I got on this forum for a problem I found between Final Cut and iDVD 6.
    I imported my Sony Cam DV into Final Cut Express 2.0.3. I cut the video then exported the video as a self contained QuickTime movie. When I burned a DVD, with iDVD6, it looked like crap.
    Every horizontal movement of the camera or subject gave me bad interlaced scan lines tearing the borders of all images. I tried exporting again using the QT settings compression h.264. Again I got the scan lines on all horizontal action. Another coaster!
    The problem only went away when I set the video export setting to DVDPRO50-NTSC.
    I didn't have this problem before on iDVD3. I guess 6 is new and improved. Ha Ha.

    iDVD is always the happiest with DV video that's what it is designed for. A "self contained QuickTime movie" may - or may not - be that format.
    Another coaster!
    'Burn' to a disk image first and check the image out with Apple's DVD Player application BEFORE burning the image to writable media with Apple's Disk Utility application. Save your self a disc or two.

  • Mac Mail and the Elusive Horizontal Bar / Separator Line

    LIke so many people, I tried to devise the best way to insert a horizontal separator bar between messages in a multi-message thread. I refuse to insert a long string of dashes -- I want a solid black separator bar -- and I don't want to use a plugin either. So here's the best I can do at this point:
    First, to set it up, open a blank Word document, type three dashes ("---"), hit the Return key (the dashes turn into a horizontal bar), copy the line above and below the resulting horizontal line (ie., to be sure you encapsulate the line within your selection), and then paste it into a new (empty) email.
    If you do the same thing with the equal sign ("===") you end up with a DOUBLE line separator. You might as well copy that into your blank email too.
    Then, simply save that new email in your DRAFT folder so you can easily access those lines quickly to copy/paste them in any other email.
    This only seems to work when the horizontal line is black. You can change the line in Word to any color (using the Borders and Shading tab in the Format Pallette) but then when you paste it into a Mail, the line is invisible, so just use a black line.
    Just fyi.

    Simple solution--very simple
    Open up MS word (or Pages alternative) and create a horizontal line by  holding down the "shift" key and then holding down the "_" key to make the line as long as you want
    Copy this line into your clipboard
    Open Automator
    Go to Automator | Services | Services Preferences | and click the "Text" button across the top
    Type the two letters "ln" in the "Replace" column and the paste the _______________________________ you created and copied in the "With" Column
    Every time you type the letters ln into your email, it gives you the option of replacing the letters ln with a line if you simply hit return
    Hope that helps--I was Googling the solution--and came up with that....
