Horizontal gray lines &  Frequent TC breaks in Import

I'm importing my mini-DV tapes in lo res via 'Capture now' and have a couple problems:
1) I read on other forums that the horizonal gray lines appearing in the image are due to dirty DV deck tape heads. I have cleaned the heads before and this only solves the problem temporarily--then the gray lines come back (sometimes after one capture now session). Other possibilities?
2) While using the 'capture now' function, an abnormally high number of TC breaks are being detected and splitting the capture up 24+ clips. Some lasting for a single frame. This problem seems to get worse the more tapes I capture. These mini-dv tapes have barely been played and are in good condition (no damage). I'm wondering if I'm having issues with the deck or FCP.

I'm wondering if I'm having issues with the deck or FCP.
Watch the tapes on a external monitor connected to the deck. If the problem is visible there, it's not a FCP problem.

  • IOS 7 iPad - Safari periodically displays horizontal gray line

Hi all, ever since upgrading to iOS 7, Safari on my iPad periodically displays a faint horizontal gray line when scrolling through some websites.  Has anyone else come across this?  The line only appears on some websites and goes away when scrolling stops.  I've seen this happen on an iPad 3rd generation, iPad Air, and iPad mini with Retina.  It appears to be the same graphic as the scroll bars in the OS, but there's no reason to scroll horizontally on these pages.
You can see the line about 2/3 of the way down the webpage here:

I'm on an ipad Air and have the same issue.
The problem I see is that this horizontal scroll bar displaying in the middle of a page is a bug.  This scroll bar should appear at the bottom of the screen where scroll bars live on all other browsers, not half way up the page.
The proof is in the Vertical scroll bar which is in the correct position, on the far right of the page.
BTW, both scroll bars appear only when necessary which is correct.
The issue we all share is the positioning of the horizontal bar.

  • Horizontal Gray Line appearing on my movie (Star Trek Into Darkness)

Hello, I have been looking for a solution to my issue but all I get is references to iMovie and movie impot/export via iMovie.`
    http://gyazo.com/b58cb0236664e7aef5f9561ad8761ec4
This is the issue - on Star Trek Into Darkness - a horizontal gray line appears at the bottom and doesn't go away at what ever resolution I put it at.
    http://gyazo.com/a27fb2cb9e40c9886b71677fd0443716
Alternatively, this is Star Trek and there is no gray line. I legitamtely purchased both of these movies, both Standard Definition (SD) but somehow, Into Darkness is giving me this gray line.
    Solutions?
I've tried updating, restarting, tweaking preferences and so on.
    Thanks,

Jon, I really don't. The only thoughts on audio desync I may have is VirtualDub
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tqDQNqDoGo
Or Adobe Premiere which is probably a more advanced video and audio editing software, but I've never used either one
Okay. Was concentrating more on finding a problem source that might be affecting both QT based apps (QT Player and iTunes) albeit with different problems. My basic assumption here is that the purchased file was correctly created and not corrupted during both download actions and doesn't really have either a video or audio problem. If true, then it is the players that are causing the playback problems and one point of commonality for both would be the QT structure routines shared by each. Unfortunately, it doesn't explain why each player manifests a different symptom for the same file. Was therefore asking if you were familiar with any known installation issues in this area. Also did not know if indiscriminant re-installation of the structure and/or affected apps would create a problem with the active media library under Windows if such action should become necessary. Did not find any reference to similar problems during a spot chack of movie file reviews and/or reported iTunes/QT problems under Windows OS but was hoping you might have come across something in your own experiences. Looks like this issue is a real mystery...

  • Horizontal gray line across imac screen

Hello, wonder if anyone could help with this one...(sigh)...
This evening, quite suddenly, a gray (or black, depending on what's on the screen) vertical line has appeared across my imac screen, about a quarter of the way up from the bottom.  Above that are some are three, much lighter lines (more like subtle variations or blocks of colour running across the screen). These appear on all windows I open.  I took a screen shot using grab and the very definite gray line doesn't appear.  Can anyone give me suggestions of what's wrong and what I can do - I'm out of applecare warrenty now I'm afriad.  Is it repairable? or am I looking a buying a new machine, because these lines will drive me crazy.
    Thanks!

These appear on all windows I open.  I took a screen shot using grab and the very definite gray line doesn't appear.
Excellent work, the Screen Grab grabs it from the Video card, so the prlem is after/outside of that.
Could be the Internal Video cable, or the LCD itself.

  • HP Photosmart all-in-one scans in horizontal gray lines

My HP photosmart printer will scan only when I send the request from my MacBook to the printer. It shows up in the scan box and looks fine, but it does not let me save the scan. The first time I try, it will save it but when I open the saved pdf or jpg it's all gray with horizontal lines in it. I have restarted both computer and printer and have saved in a number of different ways. It won't let me email it to myself either. I get an error message after the first attempted save that says: An error has occurred saving the file because it could not be written to.  Check the properties for the file to make sure it is not read-only. I have checked the properties and it's not read only.

i have the same problem. it started after i down loaded the mevarick version.
    it happens on and off.
last week i maneged to sort it out ,but this week i couldn't despite trying everything including uninstallining and installing my scanner.
    Can some body help please?

  • Gray lines (masks)

I'm getting frustrated with this issue.  My client shows me gray lines that I thought corresponded with mask lines in my frame.  I see the lines on his PC, but I can't see anything on my monitors, not in FCP, Quicktime, external monitors, and I've gone through the full range of adjusting contrasts.  I'll describe the signal path, in case it is relevant.  Before I do that, my observation of this shows the lines at the edge of the frame directly above the subject.  The brighter the subject (one is a doctor in a white smock) the brighter the gray.  Can cheap PC laptop displays (or any sort of display) generate a reflective horizontal gray line when the video levels aproach 100%?
This stuff was shot on a Cannon 7D, rotated 90º so the subjects are shot on a frame 1080x1920 on a green background.  There is actually a lot of overshoot.  They have been keyed over black through AE keylight.  In FCP, we rotated it back 90º and have framed it, frequently over black, sometimes with images beside it.  That means the top of the shooting (and masked layer) frame is always in the frame as the screen right border.  We don't see any gray line there, vertical.  After the entire show was completed, these scenes repeat and keep showing the problem.  I've been through numerous versions of masking or not masking the black area above the subject's head but his PC keeps showing a gray line above the image (and not in the black area to the sides).  After FCP, I first exported it as ProRes 422.  To ship it to him I converted the 1920x1080i to a 640x360 h.264 quicktime.  I've got 5 monitors here, Macs and PCs.  None of them can see the problem.  He's the client and keeps seeing the problem on his cheap PC, so its a catastrophic problem.  I'll attach samples of the 4 subjects in question if this works.

Dont know what camera was used, the footage was given to me. The dimensions of the footage is 720X486. Dont know if that helps.

I think this is an excellent indicator that not only is Palm reviewing the feedback from the support forums here, but actively reviewing feedback/comments/wishes on other sites as well.
As the original poster copied this (quite solid, IMO) wishlist from Pre Central, the palm support staff acknowledged first seeing it there.

  • Screen going crazy, pink horizontal lines, frequent random crashes?

    Hi all,
First post here... I felt compelled to post as usually Googling a problem will bring me to a solution from one of these discussions but in this case there are many similar instances of my problem but no-one seems to be able to offer an explanantion that fits my particular circumstances.
    I have a late 2011 MBP 15"
    Processor = 2.2 GHz i7
    Memory = 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics = Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
    OS = OS X 10.9.2
Recently, my screen started randomly going crazy, all blocky and with horizontal pink lines all over. Then it would go either fully black or fully white. This usually happens when I open another tab or app. Sometimes it crashes and powers off. Sometimes it restarts.
If it powers off and I restart it or it restarts itself, the horizontal pink lines appear on the startup/spinning gear screen.
Then the screen goes fully white and the fans go crazy. Now it sometimes just stays hung like this and sometimes it powers off after about 3 minutes of crazy fans.
I switch it back on and it does the same thing.
It gets stuck in this loop for ages and often, if I just leave it and come back to it some other time, it powers up just fine however sometimes it will continue to refuse to power up.
If I try to boot into recovery mode, it blue screens.
If I try to boot into safe mode, it blue screens.
If I try diagnositics, it blue screens.
What could the problem be and how do I fix it?

I've had a similar issue with my mid-2012 13" non-retina MacBook Pro twice. First time I dropped it and it fell hard ( I mean it fell down a flight of stairs). It sounds like your graphics card and/or logic board and possibly the RAM sticks might have an issue. For me, a new logic board costs about $480 but Apple covered it twice since its less than a year old. Other issues I've had it would have a "checker-board" on startup and it would have a similar glitch when I would move it or set it down. It would also freeze and even shut down. I've also pulled it out of my bag, and it would be a lot hotter than when I put it in. I'd say set up a Genius Bar appointment or take it to a local certified apple service technician or if you really wanted to, setup an appointment and find out what's wrong and then repair it yourself, just make sure your data is backed up. I would suggest back it up to both iCloud and an external hard drive that can hold more data than the internal drive on your mac.

  • Strange black and gray lines and lockup as soon as MBP powers on

I was surfing the web, and opened a particular tab when the 26" Samsung display that I use with my MBP yellowed and just weirded out in general. All of the colors funked out, and all kinds of plaid patterns appeared. Then I had a kernel panic. I disconnected everything from the notebook (FireWire hard drives, audio interfaces, USB drives, USB mouse, etc.) and restarted it.
Now, black and gray horizontally-staggered lines are all that show up on the screen. It happens immediately after the screen lights up. I've zapped the pram, tried to reset the video ram in open firmware mode, reset the SMU, tried to boot from CD, but nothing gets rid of these weird lines. Also, the computer doesn't appear to be doing anything (i.e. if I let it sit, it's still unresponsive several minutes later). If I hold down "Option" when I turn on the MBP, press the "right arrow" key and then hit "enter," the screen turns black and stays black, but caps lock starts responding (neither the internal nor external screen displays anything but black - in fact, the external display doesn't even pick up a signal).
Is this a problem with my motherboard/video card? I have finals coming up and can't really part with this - I hope I don't have to mail it off or take it to an Apple Store (the nearest is nearly 2 hours away). Any help or advice is welcome!

Thank you very much for that article! I'll be sure to print it out and bring it along to the Apple Store on Sunday. The problem occurs whether an external display is connected or not. I think it is a video card problem given that the screen immediately goes screwy; it doesn't wait until after the notebook posts or anything.

  • Rear Camera has horizontal white line across screen

Hi, I was given a playbook for Christmas and I love it but it has developed a horizontal white line on the rear camera which makes the camera and video unusable. I have customized my Playbook so am reluctant to take it back to the shop. Is there anything I can do to fix this or do I just accept that I'm not going to be able to use the rear camera or video? Hope you can help as in every other way my Playbook is perfect. Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If a Playbook is to be sent for repair, especially with an RMA, it is important to back up data files by WiFi sharing as a desktop software backup  may not work if the unit is replaced with a refurb or new unit.

  • Emf file- gray lines

    Hi Everyone,
i have some graphics *.*emf files from Matlab. when i use graphic on MS Word there is no problem it looks like an orginalm forms but when i convert word file to Pdf with Adobe Pdr Writer, add some gray lines on my graphic (pictures are below). how i can solve this problem, Thanks

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
It is a mapping of Microsoft graphics primitives into a file.
we are using bitmap.save function of microsoft .net framework to save to a .emf format.
Since it uses  bitmap basically, the saved file may not contain vector graphics.
My question is whether Illustrator supports to import/open this type of files?

  • Horizontal Blue Lines

    Hey all,
I have a problem that I tackled a LONG time ago and cant
remember why it is happening or how I fixed it. I used the PSD2FLA
plugin to import my images into Flash. It works marvelously. BUt I
just used it for a file that I am working with, and it was imported
into flash with horizontal blue lines over each of the layers. Like
I said this has happened before, but I cant remember how I overcame
it then... maybe something in my prefs? Any help would be
    appreciated!! Thanks in advance!
    Ken

I have used PSD3FLA before and don't remember what the
watermark is for some reason - but it sounds
like it may be you need to re-activate it? Try PSD2FLA's
website - i remember something like this
happening to me at one time.

  • Gray line across the screen

I turned on my I-pod and there was a long gray line that spanned the scream of my I-pod. I want to know how it got there, and most importantly how i can fix it!

Hi! Seems to me that you have done well trouble shooting your problem. If the lines don't show up on a external monitor, what else could it be?? Can you attach  screen shots?

  • 24" Imac Horizontal Video Lines Video tearing

My 24" Intel Imac 216 GZ Core 2 Duo 3g ram is suffering from video anomalies (thin horizontal noise lines, Tear lines and moving windows leaves trailing repeats of the window.) Lines occur as early as the desktop at startup. Using Itunes or mail aggrevates the problem. Safe Boot cures the problem, new partition does not. Apple Hardware Extended Test is negative. Repaired Disk & Permissions, reset Pram, Archive and install all with no results. Started as a minor issue mostly in mail but now happens with no programs running. Looking for ideas.
    Thank You

If you haven't tried yet, install SMCFanControl (and some other utility to show you the temperature readings for the different sensors inside your iMac) and push up your fan speeds with SMCFanControl to drive down the temperatures. See if you get no (or fewer) horizontal lines when your machine - particularly the graphics chip parts - is cooler, and more when it is hotter.
That isn't a remedy of course, and it seems from these various threads that the failure of your graphics chip is inevitable if you are having the symptom that it is heat related (ie that running the fans faster makes it stop happening, or happen less).

  • My Mac Book Pro has faint horizontal yellow lines moving vertically. on the monitor.

My early 2011 MBP 15" has developed a phenomenon of faint, horizontal yellow lines, in clusters, flickering and seeming to move vertically.  It is intermittent and cycles on and off with about 10-15 sec. on and 10-15 sec. off.  It is faint enough that it is very hard to see except on a white screen, or a large white area.  I first noticed it about a month or 6 weeks ago and it seems to be getting a little bit more noticeable. It is still faint enought, however, that I really don't notice it when I'm working.  But it's not hard to observe if I stop and look at a white area for a little bit.   I am not noticing any other abnormal behavior.
I have been very busy and kind of ignoring this problem.  But a couple of days ago, I realized that I have only 15 days left on my 3 year Apple Care on this machine.  At the present level, it SEEMS harmless enough, but I realize it could be a failing video card or video power supply, I suppose (it kind of has a flicker rate suggestive of 120 Hz AC).
I'm probably going to make a Genius Bar appt. in the next couple of days, but I just thought I would see what comments or suggestions this collectively very wise community might have.  I am vaguely aware of comments about "hardware diagnostics" built into the Mac, but, if true, I don't know the details. Comments solicited!

So I went to the Genius Bar with the history as outlined above.  We had to watch my display for almost 10 minutes (while he checked various system stuff) before it would perform.  But then it cut loose with a very convincing display of the faint, fuzzy groups of yellow lines moving slowly up the screen.
Tech pointed out that we were booted to an OS running on the store's server, NOT mine, so this ruled out software problems in one stroke.  He said he'd never seen anything quite like it but felt it was EITHER: video "card" section of the main logic board (all on one in a MBP) OR a failing display.  He said one or both would be replaced.
Two days later, picked up my MBP: problem solved!  Tech said they connected my laptop to an external display (which I had not tried because I didn't have one available.....though maybe a tv could have subsituted, now that I think of it!) and NO PROBLEM driving the external lcd display.  So they replaced my 15" lcd display and problem is gone.  "Bill" was about $600, parts and labor, but Apple Care picked it up (with 6 days left to run on the coverage!).
So that's the follow-on for this problem, fyi.
