Horizontal line safari

Over the weekend my safari browser started drawing a horizontal line about 5 spaces up from the bottom edge.  Other apps don't have this line appearing on the screen.  iOS 6.1.2 is my current rev level.....this is not a show stopper but annoying.  Has anyone else have this extra line drawn at the bottom segment of the screen?

Michele,
I know this was mostly answered, but I am there with you. It's a very frustrating problem and you are not alone.
Merging the keyboard and splitting it again, as well as hard closing Safari, seemd to fix it, if only temporarily.
Slightly lifting the split keyboard from the bottom seems to completely solve this SEVERELY annoying and temper tantrum inducing problem. It has taken me more time than I'd like to admit to fix this, and I have my doubts that it will work permanently as well.
But anything that MIGHT work is better than dealing with this issue.
It may seem minor to some, but for a lot of us, it is very distracting and annoying.
I keep hoping with each and every update that it's fixed, and am disappointed each and every update.

  • My Safari is showing horizontal lines once in a while

I have a 15" MacBook Pro that's just over a year old. I started seeing horizontal lines in my safari window for a couple of months now. I have attached a screenshot below. Can anyone tell me what is causing this to happen? At first, I was seeing the very top of my Safari window flickering with thin colored lines. Now I am seeing what's attached below, probably once a day.
I want to know if something is wrong with my graphics card (which I don't think it is because it's only happening in Safari) or if something is wrong with my Safari.
    Thanks!

Only happens in Safari ... I would try these steps:
go to Safari (in the menu bar), and select Reset Safari...
next, Safari / Preferences / Extensions and turn off the extensions.

  • Black horizontal line ipad mini Safari

New iPad mini appears to be having problems already.  While using Safari in some websites, a fairly thin black horizontal line will appear typically in the middle of the page.  It usually gravitates towards the spot where you try to read.  Thin enough to kind of underline text for easier reading but big enough to be a nuisance.  Is this a feature for easier reading in Safari or a bug.
    Please help,

  • Horizontal lines mostly in Safari

I found an archived post dating back to March 2008 with my exact issue. Here's a link to that post, which contains a picture of my exact problem. His was the Macbook Pro, but mine is imac intel (see below for the details of my machine).
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1468905&tstart=
I'm trying not to be too upset due to the fact that my year warranty just ended in early December 2008 and I didn't purchase Applecare. Oh well, live and learn.
I'm just so surprised at all the issues I've been reading about in here. I really thought I was getting a great machine. My first mac.

Have you tried installing Fan Control?
    http://www.derman.com/Download/Special/iMacFanControl.html
I was finding the same problems. Horizontal lines "frozen" into safari, itunes, and then eventually migrating to my destop and eventually whole sections of my desktop.
I tried everything to ensure I wasn't dealing with a bug (including a full wipe and rebuild of my mac (it had been a few years). So I wanted to be absolutely certain I didn't have a driver/software bug somewhere. And within about 4 hours of a freshly updated Leopard install, the lines showed up again.
I installed Fan Control, and I immediately heard the fan increase speed, and the next thing I noticed... no more funny lines. Guess my video card (NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT) is not liking the heat in there.
    Hope this helps.

  • My iphone 4s screen turned freaked out before my eyes, changing all different colours, now it is blue and black along the right side with horizontal lines, and is flickering. I DIDN'T DROP IT.

I was just sitting on the couch scrolling through facebook, I closed out of that and went to open safari, when it spazzed out, for a few mintutes it looked like LSD vision, it was all different colours and flickering the whole time. I turned it off and on again, and plugged it into my computer and now the right side is nearly completely blue, and bleeds to the left side with horizontal lines, and it is still flickering. I just finished paying the **** thing off. I thought I'd get another year out of it. I have taken exemplary care of it and it hasn't left the case since the day I bought it. I haven't dropped it, there was no warning for the screen to start doing this. So my question is, is there an easy fix (I am about to restore and update it, and I already played around with the screen brightness), and if not, am I going to have to pay for the screen to be replaced, because I don't have that kind money.

Probably sounded funnier in your head.

  • How do I insert a horizontal line in an email?

Getting emails from Windows guys that have lots of horizontal lines that divide the text into sections is commonplace. It is easy for them (bless their souls) I have tried everything possible to do it in Apple Mail. Adding <hr> does not work (there is no HTML editor built into either Mail or Safari). So, other than putting in ugly dashes across the page, is there no way to do this other than exporting the message to a Windows machine and editing it there?

Here is what I did to get this result when composing from Mail 6 and sending to my gmail account. Do not have a Outlook account to test how Windoze handles this rich text.
Be sure you are sending rich text messages.
When you want to insert a line:
Right mouse btn click and choose Font > Show Fonts
In the dialog that pops up, there are a row of icons across the top.
Choose the third icon to set the color of your line.
Choose the second icon to choose the strike-through feature, single-line.
Press and hold the space bar across your email -- say 80%.
Turn off strike-through feature and any color to resume mail message.
Want another one, copy and paste.

  • When doing the app exposé gesture, is it normal to see a thin white horizontal line at the bottom of the screen after minimizing a window?

I noticed that when I open two windoes (say Safari and Trash can) and minimize both windows so they go on the dock, when I do the swip down gesture with 3 fingers (App Expose´) there is a thin white horizontal line at the bottom of the screen. Does it happen to every macbook pro out there?  Is this normal?  Hope it's not a display screen problem...

You would have to have multiple pages of the app minimized.
This is what it looks like with Safari with 1 page open and 4 minimized.

  • My problem using iPhoto Having the horizontal lines going through the  photo when printing of a website

My problem is using the I Photo and printing a picture with horizontal lines going through it

Your topic title and topic content are a bit confusing?  Are you printing a website page? That would be thru Safari or other browser.
Or is a photo from a website?  If so how was it imported into iPhoto?
Also what system and iPhoto version are your running?
Does the photo print correctly from Preview or other application?
What's the pixel dimensions of the image?
How much free space do you have on your boot drive?

  • Text appears as horizontal lines on certain websites or not at all

I tried searching for this problem on the board but most people only have the text overlapping problem. When I go to certain websites such as Suntrust Bank or imaging-resource.com the text does not load in some of the menus and appears as only horizontal lines or not at all BUT the link is still there if you hover over it. This is the first time it happens to me. Maybe its the newest version of Safari that is bugged? I am running version 3.1.1.
    Thanks,
    Danny

Yes, but did you check your present IP, or the last one?
I'm also wondering if it could have anything to do iwth the fact that I have very big inboxes & sent mail boxes.
    Not likely.
Wasn't sure if rebuilding my mailboxes might help - my mail program isn't finding files properly either.
Not likely to do with the sending problem, but...
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.

  • Intermittent horizontal line(s) appearing on screen

    Greetings,
    3 month old MBP
I'm getting horizontal line(s) showing up on the screen running the width of the open window. I've seen them mostly in Mail but also in Safari and Finder. The line is a pixel width thick. Sometimes it stops before reaching the edge of the window.
Any help / ideas would be greatly appreciated. I'm suspecting a hardware problem but it is a difficult one to diagnose / prove given it is hard to reproduce in a consistent manner.
    Thanks,
    Rod

I reinstalled Leopard from scratch to help eliminate software as the issue. After re-installation, there were still problems especially with graphics intensive apps. Returned the unit to my local Apple repair. They replaced the logic board under warranty and I have not seen the horizontal lines on the screen since then.

  • Faint horizontal lines accross iMac lcd

Had a 24" iMac that developed faint horizontal lines across the lcd that got progressively darker the longer the computer was on. Had the lcd replaced by Apple twice, but after a couple of weeks the problem returned. They gave me a new iMac, but a month in I have the same problem with the new machine. Has anyone encountered this problem? Is it an inherent issue with iMac lcds or is it something external affecting my machine? And I'm not talking poltergeist. Help, want this fixed.

We have a 20" imac Core Duo that was purchased summer 2006 - then about 5 or 6 months ago, it started developing horizontal lines across applications (Safari, Mail, etc) and the desktop - sometimes they would go away, sometimes not... I thought is was some video driver conflicting, upgraded to snow leopard, went to the genius bar, etc... but lately it got worse to the point that it started locking up every day... this after going weeks or months without a reboot and over 3 years having almost zero crashes...
I read in a forum where the video chip (GPU - graphics processing unit) was heat sensitive and thought that after 3+ years, maybe it was dusty in there... I installed the iStat widget to monitor the temp of the GPU and installed a fan control (software) where you can increase the minimum speed of the hard drive fan (allegedly located above the GPU). I also put the end of the vacuum on the fan vent just above where the power cord goes into the back of the monitor and let it run for a while hoping to clean things out...
5 days later - zero display issues, zero hangs and zero crashes - and the GPU runs an average of 25 degrees cooler than before. This after a genius bar guy told me that it probably needs a new display board. Good Luck!

  • Horizontal lines on imac display, video card going bad?

I have horizontal lines and a triangular shaped artifact on my 24 inch Imac display. This happens after quite awhile of use, so I am thinking it might be the video card is about to go. Also, have issues with viewing flash videos, the browser (safari) will just quit responding, sometimes it will recover. Most times I have to reboot the machine. I believe all these syptoms are related. Any ideas?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Your graphic card is damaged. Unfortunately, the only thing you can do is to take the Mac to an Apple Store or reseller to get the computer repaired.
Both problems may be related, because Flash uses the graphic card and it often fails

  • RANDOM HORIZONTAL LINES on iMac G5 (1st G)

I have the iMac G5 (NO iSight) and some months ago I discovered some random horizontal lines that went through the whole display up or down. They are not there the whole time, sometimes when I work with Aperture or even iPhoto or Safari the lines start to appear, or sometimes when I turn on the computer. I don't think they are linked with temperature, but I do think they are related to the processor use, as when they appear I hear the fans inside, which means the more of the processor is being used. I've also tried the iMac on different homes, so it's not energy related. I got the iMac to an Apple Authorized Retailer and they changed the logic board under the extended repair for the iMac G5, but that was no luck. The lines are still here, and they don't know what is causing them. Anyone knows what I could do to get the display fixed? Any part inside? Thanks, they are very annoying.

    Hey guys,
About the RANDOM HORIZONTAL LINES I don't have any good news for you. I contacted an Apple Authorized Reseller and they took a look at my iMac G5, and after sending photos of the lines to them they could actually get the logic board replaced through an extended warranty program Apple has with the logic board and power supply. However, I brought it home, and the lines are still here. It could be something with the actual display because they told me the logic board contained almost everything, so in my iMac the logic board is (hopefully) new, or at least working. I haven't tried plugging it in to another display. But I do think it is related with processor activity; when I run many applications that require lots of processor, the lines appear, and when the task is finished, they are gone, such as the Aperture Trial (lines here don't let you even see at your pictures correctly). I'll keep contacting the authorized reseller to see if anything comes up and I'll keep you posted.
Please try contacting Apple in the United States. I can't, I don't live in the US. Any ideas of solving this (maybe directly from Apple) would be great. Thanks!

  • Horizontal lines, slow boot and other problems...

Lately our iMac has developed a few issues. For starters there seems to be horizontal lines that appear randomly on the desktop, in programs like safari, firefox and just about any other programs. They seem to be completely random and actually seem to happen more under my user name than my wife's. I've also noticed that booting up takes a heck of alot more time than it used to. I can even boot up my aging PC faster than this. Also the overall performance seems sluggish. I've also noticed that the screen dims all the time. I could be watching a 3min movie on youtube and have the screen dim. We've never changed any settings and I can't see any reason behind this.
I've verified and repaired file permissions, but don't know where else to go from there. I'm much more used to fixing PC's than dealing with a Mac. Speaking of which....
Even though there are quite a few things I like about the iMac (we've had this one for about 2yrs now), I'm really beginning to doubt that they are worth the higher price tag. So far we've had both the mouse and keyboard just stop working (using a cheapo Logitech combo right now), can't stand that multiple users can't access the same pictures from iPhoto, and now these current problems. I guess my question is if this is normal for a Mac. I've always had problems with Windows, but they are easily fixed and never the hardware problems like I'm having with the Mac. We plan to get a notebook soon, but I'm wary of buying another mac.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
For starters there seems to be horizontal lines that appear randomly on the desktop, in programs like safari, firefox and just about any other programs.
This is the sign of a lemon, so no, it is not normal of a Mac to do this. Run the hardware test that came with the Mac on its installer discs. If it detects nothing, point out the issue to an authorized service center.
The chances of it happening to a Mac are less, but by no means is it nil. That's what the warranty is for, if you keep good care of your machine.
