Horizontal lines on lcd monitor

Hello all,
Our less than 2 year old 21.5" Intel Imac (OS 10.6.8) started to display horizontal lines at the bottom portion. Those lines are always present at the same position. They have been gradually invading the screen rendering it soon unuseable. Otherwise the Imac is functionning flawlessly. The computer is installed in a clean domestic area with no heat source in proximity.
I have completed the harwhare test application on startup to confirm that all components (including the graphics card) are functionning perfectly.
I have also taken a screen capture (shift-cmd-3) and sent it to my well functionning Macbook. The screen capture picture of the Imac is flawless. This would indicate by deduction that the LCD screen is flawed.
Is there by anyones knowledge a fix to this rather premature problem?

  • Horizontal line across the monitor. It happened yesterday.

I have a HP ENVY 23-c1 10xt AiO (Lavaca3-SB)PCUS and there is a horizontal line across the monitor.  It happened yesterday.

    Hello again javajohn23,
I would like you to try the following steps:
Step 1. Turn off the computer, and then remove the power cord
Step 2. With the power cord disconnected, press and hold the power button for five seconds
Step 3. Reconnect the power cord, and then turn on the computer
If the above steps do not resolve it try the next set up steps:
    Step 1. Restart your computer
Step 2. Repeatedly press the F10 key about once every second for five seconds after turning the computer on
    Step 3. Wait five seconds
Step 4. Press the F5 key. This restores the default settings of the BIOS
Step 5. Press the Enter key. This accepts the changes
Step 6. Press the F10 key. This opens the Save and Exit window
Step 7. Press the Enter key. This saves the changes, exits the BIOS, and then the computer restarts
    Step 8. Restart the computer.
Another thing I can think to try is review the HP Support document: Changing Display Settings, Background Image, Icons, and Screen Saver (Windows 7) to see if you can identify anything out of place.
We can also try to reload the Intel Graphics Driver for your computer as it will wipe out the settings when the new driver  is reinstalled.
Please re-post with the results of these steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Help! N95 8GB Horizontal Lines on LCD Screen getti...

I was getting a few horizontal lines across my screen of my N95 8GB. Switching the slider from portrait to landscape doesn't change the direction of the lines.
The lines have been getting progressively thicker to the point where now it's hard to read anything on the phone.
Do I have a dying screen?
I've take the slider apart, detached and reattached the screen and ribbon cable connector, and it doesn't make any difference.
Should I buy a replacement screen or is there something else that could be wrong? The rest of the phone functions perfectly fine.

    Nokia N95 (A6.02)

    Hi calciumicon,
It would probably be best to have your device checked by a Nokia Care point. From what you describe it might be the screen needs to be replace. The N95 is a model which has been out of production for a while though so check to verify it can still be repaired.

  • Horizontal lines on lcd screen (T61)

Hello - I am currently using a T61 thinkpad. I noticed that across the entire screen, there is are thin horizontal lines all over the place sort of like a photoshop scanline-effect; is there a way to fix this? If it is dark black or all white, the lines are not visible, but in all other cases (shades, other colors), I can see it. If I move it really close to the screen, they disappear, but looking at it from a normal viewing distance I can see them.
    Thanks,
    - Eli

That wasn't the help I had in mind.  Does your screen exhibit the same sort of pattern as the inline images?  Also, there is a link to some screen tests in the post below those images, and you could run those tests to adjust your T61.  You can also use the tests to compare your T61 to some other (known) display.
If you decide you need the screen serviced and you're within the first 21 days of ownership, you can have it serviced onsite.  See here (below the diagram).
I apologize for not including more detail in my first reply.  I don't know why you weren't able to read my mind.

Has anyone had any luck with the Dell line of LCD monitors. I need to purchase two for a professional graphic design setup.

I have been using the new Dell 24" for two weeks so I'm pretty sure it's on sale
The new Dell 2408wfp is a beautiful monitor with the exception of an over saturation of the red colors. I calibrated it today with a eye-one display2 and it is much better but the reds are still a little more neon bright then I would like. I hope Dell does a firmware revision that will correct it.
"On sale" as to less than $699.
Firmware upgrade is not user installable. You'll need to get a new monitor.

  • Horizontal line macbook air

    Have a Good day.
Is terrible that apple sells defective equipment, i bought a macbook air in apple store miami, the machine now is displaying a horizontal line in the monitor, i called to apple , the support told me  thati it is normal, and that they cant do  anything because the warranty was expired.
in some articles i read that apple had a problem with aorund  700.000  of units of macs including macbook air 11,1 ,13 in and 15 inch.
    Jesus Antonio.

    "Normal"?
Can't reply much to what you said without more detail. You don't even say how old it is. There must have been something more to this story for the term, "normal" to be applied here.
Or instead did the representative say something that it was not "extraordinary" for a component(display) to fail after xx years?
But yes, it is unfortunate that any component, designed and built by humans are subject to imperfection. But Apple does have a warranty, and a way to extend that warranty for as much as 3 years. At that point, not even Apple will extend it further. That should be indicator enough that component life is finite, and somehat expectant for failure after a time. We all hope though that it is something inexpensive before we decide to retire the old hardware. But alas, it isn't always the case.
    Did/do you have Applecare?

  • Faint horizontal lines accross iMac lcd

Had a 24" iMac that developed faint horizontal lines across the lcd that got progressively darker the longer the computer was on. Had the lcd replaced by Apple twice, but after a couple of weeks the problem returned. They gave me a new iMac, but a month in I have the same problem with the new machine. Has anyone encountered this problem? Is it an inherent issue with iMac lcds or is it something external affecting my machine? And I'm not talking poltergeist. Help, want this fixed.

We have a 20" imac Core Duo that was purchased summer 2006 - then about 5 or 6 months ago, it started developing horizontal lines across applications (Safari, Mail, etc) and the desktop - sometimes they would go away, sometimes not... I thought is was some video driver conflicting, upgraded to snow leopard, went to the genius bar, etc... but lately it got worse to the point that it started locking up every day... this after going weeks or months without a reboot and over 3 years having almost zero crashes...
I read in a forum where the video chip (GPU - graphics processing unit) was heat sensitive and thought that after 3+ years, maybe it was dusty in there... I installed the iStat widget to monitor the temp of the GPU and installed a fan control (software) where you can increase the minimum speed of the hard drive fan (allegedly located above the GPU). I also put the end of the vacuum on the fan vent just above where the power cord goes into the back of the monitor and let it run for a while hoping to clean things out...
5 days later - zero display issues, zero hangs and zero crashes - and the GPU runs an average of 25 degrees cooler than before. This after a genius bar guy told me that it probably needs a new display board. Good Luck!

  • L655D-S5055 LCD horizontal line issue - possible motherboard or GPU failing??

    Hello,
A few weeks ago a horizontal line running from the left edge to the right edge of the LCD about 2 1/4"
from the bottom of the LCD started to occur.  The line shows up from the time the screen turns on
and remains in CMOS or the Win 7 desktop.  I have replaced the LCD panel with a new OEM LCD
panel, this did not resolve the issue.  I replaced the internal video cable, this did not resolve the issue.
Since the line occurs in the CMOS screen (DOS prompt screen) or in Win7, there is not video driver
issue I believe.  I also updated the L655D BIOS to the latest v2.10  Nothing has resolved the issue.
Is this possibly a sign of a GPU issue at the motherboard level? I have noted that the space below the line does "flicker" or distort the image, but only below the line.  The rest of the image on the screen stays without any problem.  I have also attached the laptop to an external monitor which has no line like this or any issues with the display at all.  Thus the reason I had originally concluded the LCD panel and internal
    video cable.
Does anyone know if this is a known problem with specific motherboards with this model laptop, or GPUs?
Is there a replacement motherboard program for this laptop as this is certainly a quality issue that should
not be left for the enduser to replace the motherboard and be charged a high cost repair such as this!
I appreciate any guidance or advice on this issue.  I have attached two pictures for reference of this problem.
One shows the line in a Command prompt screen, the other while in Win 7.
[Updated: 2-Apr-2013]  based on further research and experience with other similar issues, I am beginning to think this is related to heat and the GPU impacted by poor quality soldering or some other issue of that nature.  I have performed "reballing" with other products, but am not sure about whether this issue can be resolved or how to go about an effective "reball" for this product motherboard.  A replacement, used motherboard is hard to find and if found are over $150USD.  Again, it seems unfair to the consumer to have a laptop like this for 4 years and need to replace the motherboard or live with this issue until the unit fails completely.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Hp 2711x Monitor: Flickering red horizontal lines, dots, shapes

I'm not sure if I have two seperate problems or if they are the same problem. But lately my monitor has many red horizontal lines or red dots, or random red shapes on screen that flicker slightly. They only appear on parts of the screen that are dsplaying either black or any dark colors. Any part of the screen displaying white will have no lines at all. The problem will go away temporarily if I shut off the monitor for a while.
Also before it begins doing this, and during, the entire screen will go bank for about 1-2 seconds and then come back. It never gives an error message when it is blank. I run a dual monitor set up with my laptop display and the monitor and the lines only appear on the monitor, not the laptop display.
I have the most current drivers for the monitor installed.
The computer is a Clevo W110ER with i7 3630QM  2.4 Ghz and a 2 GB video card, running Windows 8.

  • Any filters to help with horizontal line jitters on ntsc monitor

    Hey Guys,
I am working on a project that has alot of office forms that appear on screen. The horizontal lines of the forms wiggle like crazy on the ntsc monitor. Is there any filters that can stop the jitters?
    I am using FCP studio

    Hi:
You can try with the standard Flicker Filter and adding a very small Blur. You must find the exact recipe for your footage.
    Hope that helps !

  • I have a thin horizontal line running across my screen about 1/4 of the way from the bottom of the monitor. Why is it there and how do I get rid of it?

There is a thin horizontal line running across the width of my screen about 1/4 of the way from the bottom. This line, along with an occasional vertical line about a 1/3 of the way from the right side of my monitor, started appearing about 7 days ago. Usually the line would disappear after a restart but now it seems intent on staying. Does anyone know what is going on and how can I resolve this?

  • E90 Horizontal Black Line in LCD Cover Display

Recently noticed a small black horizontal line in E90 cover LCD display. Line was getting longer and shorter througout the day. Sometimes stretching across the entire width of the display. Updated the phone's software but no use. Nokia Careline advisor suggested removing the battery, SIM card and memory card for 15 minutes, but this did not help either. In the end, took the phone to the Nokia Care Centre where they admitted this is a common hardware problem with Nokia displays. They even have a problem code associated with this 'Black line in LCD'. Phone is under warranty and is with them for repair.

Phone back from repair and line is gone. Not sure what they did!

  • Hp 2711x Monitor horizontal line across screen

Monitor HP 2711x has a horizontal line about 2/3 the way down, completely across the screen about 1 pixel wide.   The line looks like a slice trough the current screen image to some kind of image behind the current open windows, but there is no such image behind.  Adjusting the screen resolution turns the screen black monentarily which sets the line's color to black when the screen reappears, but then the line changes to again look like a slice through the current window to some kind of false window behind.  Rotating the screen image does not rotate the line.  Adjusting the screen reolution does not alter the line.  Resetting the monitor to factory default does not alter the line.  Changing the PC providing input to the screen does not change the line.
Latest HP driver is installed.  Monitor's serial number:[Personal Information Removed].  Any suggested fix, please?  Thank you.

  • Source Monitor has horizontal lines along the video

    Hi,
In the source monitor [only after the video is rendered] I get these horizontal lines across the video. Looks like this http://yfrog.com/7bpremierproblemj
I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix this? Also, the rendered file is fine which really confuses me and if I click on the video in the source monitor then it is restored back to normal, until I click off it then it goes back to having those lines.
    Thanks

Thanks for correcting me there 'vertical line'.
I've recently installed new drivers and I still have that problem. Driver errors wouldn't explain why the video is fine when I import it. If my computer struggled to play the video then the exported file would have the vertical lines to, however it is fine.

  • Display with horizontal lines on half of the monitor

    Hi,
Anyone knows what the issue might be with this laptop monitor?
It shows very fine horizontal lines but only on right half of the display.

Probably a GPU issue.  Make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar for a definitive analysis.  There will be no software solution for this hardware problem.
