Horizontal lines on my Macbook Pro

I have recently been getting these horizontal lines on my Macbook Pro. I purchased it mid 2010, and just now have noticed it. I upgraded to Mavericks, but I noticed the lines before that though. Another thing that I have found is that it gets hot really quick. I notice the heat mostly above the keyboard, where the display connects to the "body" of the notebook. Is this something I can fix? I have attached pics of the problem.

When I am using my 15" Macbook Pro, there are often white horizontal lines that run across the screen. It usually happens when I am watching a video, typing, scrolling or just sitting on the desktop. There are days where the screen is perfect and there are no problems; there are also days where it happens so frequently that some videos becomes unwatchable due to the distracting lines flickering and flashing on the screen. Flickering horizontal lines on new MacBook Pro

I took a ~3 month old MacBook Pro into a store yesterday for some flashing horizontal lines. Upon inspection, the Genius technician told me was from a cracked LCD. I was told the repair is apparently not covered by our AppleCare coverage and could not be a defect, but that it had to be due to an impact coming from the lower right front of the display (above the keyboard). Yet, this is a new machine that doesn't leave my daughter's desk.

If that's correct, what you need is audio editing software. You can use GarageBand, which probably came bundled with your MBP, but it's a bit heavy for that purpose alone. Light grey/silver line on my MacBook Pro. What is that?

A few weeks ago, I found a strange "line", on my 2009 unibody MacBook Pro case. There are nothing on this machine. No dents, scratch-es, or else. And this line is not corrosion, or a scratch at all. The line is not parallel with the case, and the rubber edge of the screen dosen't do it, I check this too.
I don't take the machine with me anywhere, it sits on the table, and this my 2nd mac.
So what is this?

There is a possibility that you may have passed on a form of malware, or it may be a virus. As Carolyn said there are no viruses for MacOSX, but it is possible to pass a virus to a Windows user. If you want some type of protection to help prevent passing a virus on to Windows users, I would recommend downloading and installing ClamXav an AV solution for Mac. You might want to run the Clam Sentry feature in ClamXav. To do that install ClamXav, update your virus definitions. Go to perefences in ClamXav and enable Clam Sentry. You will see that it needs to know what folder(s) to watch, you can just enter / so it will monitor your entire system.

OSX Mountain Line made slow MacBook Pro i7, 4GB RAM

I installed OSX Mountain Line and now my MacBook Pro takes time to switch ON or Off. May I know how can I increase its performance while shutting down and booting it.

White line appears on macbook pro retina

When i minimized windows the white thin line appears on the screen. The line disappear right away.
This is a big concern for me because my macbook pro retina 13' is still pretty new.
How can i solve this problem ?
I got my macbook late Sept 2013.

Take a picture of the phenomenon and then make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar. Presumably your MBP is still in the warranty period and have the technicians evaluate and fix the problem. Use the picture as evidence so they fully understand what the problem is.

Line IN for MacBook Pro (for recording)

I just got my MacBook Pro (13 in 2010) for recording music. I'm just starting out and I don't want to drop $100 on an adaptor soI thought I'd just use the Line IN (until I got better at least). It turns out there is no Line IN on this computer. I'm just wondering what my options are. I know that the headphone jack has support for a headset but I cant get it to accept my guitar (via an amp). If I do need to buy something, what can I get that will help me get started for under $25? Any help would be nice.
By the way I'm on Lion with Garage band '11

If I can use the headphone jack to plug my guitar or mic in then that would be awesome. Maybe I'm just doing it wrong.

Weird horizontal line across my macbook air 11"

It's been 2 days my Macbook Air 11" (bought on 2011) started to display an horizontal line across the screen. It gets dark when the background is light and it gets light when the bg is dark. I tried to get a screenshot but it doesn't show the line.
Do you have any idea of what it is? I bought this macbook while I lived in USA but now I'm back in Brazil. Any suggestions?

Annoying horizontal lines on preview Premiere Pro CS6

Hello everybody
I have a problem with the previews of Premiere Pro cs6.
If i watch a clip on the preview player i see annoying horizontal lines, especially on fast clips, but if i watch the original clip in other player (WMP, Quicktime) it's alright.
I have a EVGA GeForce GTX 760 with the last driver version (337.88)
This problem is present in every at any resolution.
Someone can help me?

Yes I think so too....i don't understand why the problem is only on Premiere cs6 and on VLC , but not on other players (WMP or Quicktime); there is no problem on those.
I think I'll do a format of my pc....

Field of vertical lines all over Macbook Pro screen? (+ freezes, beeps)

Hello, everyone.
Here's my sitch: my MacBook Pro has really been acting out in terms of freezing with fields of vertical lines. Sometimes the screen will revert back to be free of the lines but remains unresponsive OR it shuts itself down and beeps. Sometimes it fails to wake up after sleep and when I attempt to power it on, it beeps. I took my Mac to a service provider and thinking it was a RAM problem, we ordered and put in new RAM. The problem persisted and then the logic board got replaced. Everything was seemingly fine and in working order when one day a kernel panic occurred and everything was happening all over again. I just brought it back to the service provider and we re-installed my original RAM that came with the Mac. It worked fine at first, but then the RAM beeps occurred again as well as the field of vertical lines that halt the whole system. At this point I'm simply confused at what could be the problem, as the Apple Hardware Test detected "no problem found," the PRAM/SMC have been reset, it booted up completely fine in safe mode, and I've run Disk Utility on Command + Recovery. The Apple Diagnostics tag also says that everything seems to be OK, but what could be the root of this problem??
Does anyone have any insight or suggestions on this? If so, please let me know. Needless to say, I'm tired of dealing with Mac issues when I really need it for schoolwork and such. (Sidenote: I also no longer have a warranty and for my logic board I got it replaced via an Apple Customer Care Code). Anyhow, many thanks in advance to anyone who might have some input on the matter!
PS. This is what it looks like. These pictures are from two separate occasions whereby the Mac froze and these distorted fields of vertical lines popped up.

Since it was an intermittent issue with mine I took videos/pictures of whenever my laptop locked up. I then showed them to the genius when I took it into the Apple Store. After explaining my situation to them they agreed that it was an unusual problem and replaced my logic board out of warranty for free. I would suggest doing the same but the situation and circumstances may vary so they may not offer the same to you. However, it does not hurt to try.
Also, as I mentioned to mchanxo Apple does offer a flat fee of $280 to replace any hardware that is going bad including the logic board. That could be another option but my concern with that is if it only applies to hardware that does not pass the Apple Hardware Test.
Another thing to note is that the genius told me that the in-store Apple Hardware Test does not test to see if the ram slots are going bad. He said the only way to test it is to put the good RAM in each slots and see if the laptop functions correctly. He also noted that if you do install new RAM you need to reformat your laptop to factory settings because the "OS originally sat on bad memory." I am not too computer savvy so I cannot confirm the validity of his statement but it is worth trying.

Vertical Pink Line On My MacBook Pro 15" w/ Retina Display

I am noticing a pink line running down my display on the left side. I have tried the resets and display settings but nothing is working... Is there any suggestions before I turn it in to get fixed?

I also have this problem (although the line is bright green) and another thin yellow line in the middle of the screen that comes and goes. Unfortunately for me however my MacBook is a few months out of warranty and as it is not yet 2 years old I'm a little grumpy about the idea of having to pay high costs to have it fixed (and especially when this seems to be a common issue). I have tried to reset the PRAM and to fiddle with display resolution but nothing seems to work. I have a MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X (10.9.4) purchased in December 2012. If it is faulty hardware, does anyone know if Apple will still charge to fix this?

I've been doing quite a bit of reading on this topic over the last couple of days. It looks like there's a lot of folks who have encountered the same/similar problems with their 1st generation Macbook Pros and white Intel iMacs – in short, all machines using the same GPU (ATI Radeon X1600).
It seems obvious that this GPU was badly designed and extremely prone to overheating; why Apple would have chosen to put such a chip inside a cramped portable computer beats the h*ll outta me but there you have it.
There are a few crutches (*) that allow you to at least boot the machine to get data off it and/or to run it for extremely light tasks, but in the end the GPU is dying and while Apple has chosen to own up to the defective nVidias in later models (the ones mentioned by S.U. above), us 1st gen. MBP adopters get hung out to dry.
This issue seems to be widespread and is definitely known to Apple ... there's already a 2 1/2 year old, very long thread (almost 50 pages) on these very forums: "http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1697470&start=0&tstart=0"
My Intel MBP from 2006 is toast (literally), whereas my 17" Powerbook from 2005 continues to work like a charm ... just another piece of anecdotal evidence that Apple's QC is going the way of the dodo.
(* - such as booting into safe mode – disables the GPU, install fan control software to keep the GPU from overheating, using external fans to keep the machine cooler; none of them are permanent solutions)

Vertical flickering line appeared on MacBook Pro Retina 13

This line appeared for no particular reason. The computer wasn't bumped or damged in any way. It flickers especially while playing videos or games. When it flickers, it is either bright white or yellow and when it doesn't, it is a constant grey line.

Also possible but less likely is a damaged contact at LVDS cable and logic connector.

All unbalanced microphones (regardless of price) are poor quality compared to their balanced brothers, so that sets the quality. If you said what the microphine is I could be more specific about its requrements ....
You probably can find a microphone that will plug into the Apple line input and work, but it's still mediocre, buy an interface to go with the mic and use it in Windows & Mac.
