Horizontal scrolling. Help with large images.

Putting together a .pdf publication for iPad.
I have content that fits a standard iPad format BUT I also have these very long timelines (170cm x 21 cm). These need to be displayed zoomed in -  with the reader swiping right to accessing the remainder of the content. So a horizontal scroll! Whenever I test it on the iPad it display the full image (so zoomed out and tiny). The other images are displaying fine.
So how do I make sure I view them as I require?
Thanks!

I also need this feature, to view and mark up street plans that are long narrow landscape format pages with "match lines" at the left and right sides.  What I want is similar to Acrobat's existing "Enable Scrolling" -- but in the horizontal direction.  Planners need this for road and path plans.  Musicians and composers need this for viewing multi-page sheet music so they can browse the entire "timeline" of the piece.  And as the OP notes, schedule planners need this for reviewing timelines such as Gantt charts.
Adobe, please add this feature.  I'll gladly pay for an upgrade (currently using Acrobat Pro XI Mac).

  • Broad Question - Horizontal Scrolling Slideshow with Still Images

    Hi everyone,
    I have to make a horizontal scrolling slideshow using many images of different filetypes, sizes and DPI in Premiere Pro CS5.5.  I have tried a few different methods but each has its own problems:
    1. Arrange still images horizontally in the timeline, adjacent to eachother, and apply a custom Push video transition between each one.  This is a consistent method that doesnt require much work but it's tough to control the amount of whitespace between the images, especially when the images are all different proportions.
    2. Arrange still images both horizontally and vertically in the timeline, so that there is no white space between the images (the images overlap across multiple video lanes).  Then, set up motion fx for the position of the image for each clip.  This is tedious and I have to make every clip the same size and make sure the distance each clip travels (in the motion fx) is the same. So for instance, I have to set the starting key to 1200 on the x-axis, and the ending key to -300, for every single image (tedious when there are many).  Another problem with this is that it becomes very difficult to change the duration of the motion fx once ive set it up for many.
    3. To have an easier time composing the arrangement of images, I just make a single giant image by laying out dozens of photos in InDesign, then export a very wide jpeg.  The great thing about this is it's fast, easy, and the composition is exactly how i want it.  The bad thing is that premiere doesn't handle many megapixel images well, and furthermore the image quality is horrific compared to the quality of importing individual images.
    The biggest problem with all of these is the image quality (extremely poor compared to viewing the source images on their own) and the animation smoothness (all three methods produce very jittery and erratic videos).  The biggest question I have is: should I even be doing a slideshow in Premiere?  Can someone recommend a better application I should be using for something like this?  Do i have to learn Flash?  I am not trying to make an interactive thing, just a video/animation where I hit play and dozens of images scroll horizontally, at the same speed, with a lot of control over the scaling of the images and their horizontal and vertical arrangement (the amount of whitespace between them).
    Thanks for everyone's time and help!

    Don't know if it is still being sold, but Grass Valley's Imaginate was the perfect application for your intended purpose. There are many others as well, but PR is not the program of choice for this.

  • Beachballs & Hangups with large images in CC.

    I wasn't having this issue in CS6, and then I upgraded to CC. I couldn't work with large image files on my art board. I'd always beach ball while copying an image! It was crapping out my workflow, and I have more than enough ram and processing power.
    Solution:
    Turns out the primary reason for the hang-ups was caused by the 'included SVG code' option (which doesn't exist in CS6) in the File Handling Preference. I unchecked it, and it's been smooth sailing since.
    I hope this helps someone!

    Well, your resolution in Photoshop has only some relation to the size of your document in InDesign. Perhaps CS4 has something new that CS3 doesn't, but I can't set an Indy doc to 1027 x 768 pixels; the only measurements I get are things like picas, inches, and other non-screen measurements.
    When working in Photoshop (really not my strong point), you have control over both the image size and the canvas size, right? And one of the values you're working with is going to be pixels per inch, no? I'm guessing that a Photoshop image with a size of 1024 x 768 pixels at 72 ppi (screen resolution) is what you are placing in an InDesign document, which is simply not going to display that information at 72 ppi. It'll probably display it at 300 ppi, or something similar, no?
    This just shows you my basic ignorance of Photoshop. However, even someone as PS-impaired as myself knows that you can set the image size and canvas size in Photoshop, and this will control your number of pixels per inch. If you save a PSD or a TIFF out of PS, and you have your canvas and image settings correct, then you'll get a good idea onscreen of how large your image is inside your ID document, and what your resolution will be. In fact, InDesign will merrily let you place PSDs at whatever resolution you set up in PS. So, to sum up:
    1) Your image is being placed at a print-level resolution, which is why it's so small
    2) You determine the resolution of your image in Photoshop
    3) Bob's question bears repeating: 1024 whats?

  • Illustrator Image Trace doesn't work with large images

    Illustrator's Image Trace doesn't seem to work at all with large images.  The attached image shows the following:
    A) The original raster cropped tightly.
    B) Converting the raster with default "Black and White Logo" settings.  Results in 242 paths and 4792 anchors.
    C) Adding a massive amount of white space and then converting the raster with default "Black and White Logo" settings.  Results in 407 paths and 1620 anchors.
    For whatever reason Illustrator can't seem to handle large images.  This test shows it's not an issue with the image being too complex since all I've done is add white space and the file was saved without compression so there should be no noise.
    This type of glitch started with CS6 with the new Image Trace tool.  Is there a fix for this?  Maybe setting Image Trace into legacy mode?

    Moving to Illustrator forum.

  • Problem converting XPS document with large images

    Hi,
    When I try to convert XPS documents to PDF in Acrobat 9.0 Pro, I have problems with "large images". They are either truncated or scaled down. The only images that convert correctly are small images that are not stretched to fill a large area. Attached to this message is a simple example. Does anyone know a way to correct this problem? By the way, the page is slightly larger than the standard Letter size.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for your suggestion! In fact, I am the programmer who creates the XPS files from a .NET document. Our company used the method "Postscript + PDF" during a few months and it worked quite well. Recently, we introduced semi-transparent objects and fonts in our documents and the resulting PS prints look really bad. Since I can create a perfect XPS document, and since Acrobat can convert it to PDF, I gave it a try. It solved all the problems that I had with PS printing but there is that thing with images... Anyway, since Acrobat converts XPS to PDF, I guess they should try to solve the bug with the images. As for me, I will see if I can get a component to create PDF documents directly from our application.

  • Spot removal tool lethargy with large image

    Question: is there a way to speed up Spot Removal in my circumstance?
    Background: 16-bit 4x5 scanned B & W image - 1.04GB .dng file
    Win 7, 64-bit, 12 GB RAM, dual CPUs
    With large images, spot removal is very slow, and becomes exceedingly slow as the number of spots increases.
    I have Lightroom 5 configured to use 10 GB cache
    I have cleared the cache, closed other apps, re-booted windows, with no increase in speed
    Windows task manager reports 0-35% cpu load, 4-6GB RAM used including the 1.5 GB consumed by the OS
    I do know that file size may be an issue -- Lightroom reported that a 1.32GB image is too large to load.
    What will work, if anything, to speed this up?

    PS CS5 and Camera Raw 6.x don't support the new features in LR 5. You need to use LR 'Edit in PS' and then select 'Edit a copy with Lightroom Adjustments.' Is that what you are doing? I'm using LR5.2 Final with PS CS6 and ASR 8.2 and it appears to work fine.
    However I am expereincing the feathering issue with LR5.2 Spot Removal tool:

  • Server goes out of memory when annotating TIFF File. Help with Tiled Images

    I am new to JAI and have a problem with the system going out of memory
    Objective:
    1)Load up a TIFF file (each approx 5- 8 MB when compressed with CCITT.6 compression)
    2)Annotate image (consider it as a simple drawString with the Graphics2D object of the RenderedImage)
    3)Send it to the servlet outputStream
    Problem:
    Server goes out of memory when 5 threads try to access it concurrently
    Runtime conditions:
    VM param set to -Xmx1024m
    Observation
    Writing the files takes a lot of time when compared to reading the files
    Some more information
    1)I need to do the annotating at a pre-defined specific positions on the images(ex: in the first quadrant, or may be in the second quadrant).
    2)I know that using the TiledImage class its possible to load up a portion of the image and process it.
    Things I need help with:
    I do not know how to send the whole file back to servlet output stream after annotating a tile of the image.
    If write the tiled image back to a file, or to the outputstream, it gives me only the portion of the tile I read in and watermarked, not the whole image file
    I have attached the code I use when I load up the whole image

  • Help with partial image loss from Viewer to Canvas

    Hi--I'm brand new to FCP and would really appreciate any help with my problem. I'm creating 2 second video clips composed of four still images (15 frames...or 500ms each) laid back to back, then rendered. Very simple, I know. The individual images are tiff files that look great in the FCP Viewer. But in the Canvas, part of the image is missing. Specifically, in the center of each image there should be a + sign, about 1cm square. This + should remain constant thoughout the short movie, while the items around it vary (from image to image). (This is a psychology experiment, and the center + is a fixation cross.) The problem is that in the Viewer the + sign is intact, but in the Canvas (and the resulting rendered video), only the vertical bar of the + is present! This is true for every individual tiff, and for the resulting movie. The items around the fixation cross are fine. My question is WHY on earth does the central horizontal bar get "lost" between the Viewer and the Canvas? I've read the manuals, but obviously I've got something set wrong. Also, there is a considerable overall reduction in quality between the viewer and canvas, even though I'm trying my best to maximize video quality. Everything looks a bit blurry. Truly, all ideas are welcome. Sorry if it's obvious. Thanks.

    steve, i'm viewing on my 23" cinema screen. i read up on quality and know that this is a no-no; that i should only judge quality when viewing on an ntsc monitor or good tv. the problem is that i'll ultimately be displaying these videos on my Dell LCD, so i've got to maximize what i've got. thanks to the discussion boards i have a short list of things to try now. thanks!

  • Seeking Help with Album Image Issues in iPod Classic

    Hi folks -
    I have a new 160 iPod Classic and have two album image-related issues I'd appreciate some help with.
    In the case of several albums where I'd associated my own art with them in iTunes, the formatting appeared off in my iPod due to the vertical/horizontal proportions. So I corrected the images, replaced the images via iTunes, and re-synced. All of the old images were replaced - except for two. Is there any way to get my iPod to recognize the change to these two images, as it did for all the others?
    Secondly, my "The Allman Brothers Band Live at Fillmore East" album was appearing twice in both the Cover Flow and Album list. That was strange, except that after the latest sync it now appears six times! It's only in one place in iTunes, and not erroneously set as a compilation or anything. This is the only album displaying this behavior...
    Thanks for any suggestions or advice!

  • Thumbs with Large Image and Text/Links

    Hi,
    I am running some script on the link below to try and get a look of when you click a thumbnail the large image and text that goes with it changes with each different thumb.  I am able to do that right now, but not to the affect that I want.
    Ideally I would like all the text to be on the right hand side of the image with spacing and links, but I seem to only be able to get the text to show itself on the bottom of the picture right now.  I think I need to approach it in a different way then I am currently.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Help with larger sized voice wlan.... design considerations.... tips...etc...

    Hi Everyone,
         I'm hoping that you guys and gals can help me with an ongoing problem that we have at one of our sites. We're working on areas of the location due to it's size and phone load. We have an area, that I will refer to as building A, that is roughly a square that is 240' x 240'. The inside of the building has some pallets inside for storage(they allow RF to penetrate through them) and also some metal production lines. There is also a mezzanine  / elevated area in the middle that the users can walk under. It's not very large, but it would affect a phone if you walked underneath it while making a call. So, now that I have a brief description of the environment, I will tell you the equipment I'm running...
    1 x 4402 50AP Wireless Controller with 6.0.199.3 (MR3) installed.
    We currently have nine AP's installed in this area, with 4 up front so that way they cover the office areas better. Most are 1231G's, but some are 1242's.
    Since we do not have A radios everywhere (budgetary decision) we are running all of these phones on 2.4Ghz (Yikes! I know!)
    The 7920's use LEAP and the 7921's use PEAP MS-CHAP v2 with CCKM enabled on the controller.
    I also have 802.1p wired QoS enabled for the voice QoS profile and it is applied to our voice WLAN.
    We have conference rooms in the front area that will need to support roughly 20-30 maximum mixed 7920 and 7921G phones in a roughly small area. (Yikes! I know!)
    We also have a 2106 with mesh .54M installed, but it is for outdoor AP's and should not be affecting this area.
    So, I guess my questions are....
    Has anyone ever operated the 7920 and 7921G's in mixed mode?
    I'm thinking about separating the 7920s on 2.4 and tell the 7921's to prefer the A band or just use A. This will require A radios / surgery, but we've dealt with different code trains, TAC configs, and even added a few more radios. I think it's time to say we need to redesign this area. It doesn't help that phones keep getting purchased either....
    What rule of thumb would you guys / gals say would be appropriate for this phone count in terms of the number of AP's I should use?
    Since we're dealing with two different phone models, it makes it hard to simply just read the deployment guide. I know these phones can coexist, I just think we're running into over capacity and problems with 802.11B in the mix. In the conf room right now, there are most likely signals from at least two AP's. This doesn't seem like enough bandwidth for just the 2.4 Ghz range when 20 - 30 phones are in there. Not all of them are calling, but the associations / mgmt traffic alone must be horrendous since the phones are 802.11B
    We are going to do a manual survey with a 1242 since that AP will support both phone models. I think we may need to survey twice if we're going to go this route; One survey for the 7920's on 2.4Ghz with a 1242AG and one survey on 5Ghz with a 7921G. I think that will provide the info we need to get the AP's repositioned where they need to be.
    What kind of power levels should I be using in an area like that? We've originally had a survey at 50mW, but since then we turned the power down to pwr lvl 3 in some spots due to the additional AP's. I've seen references of roughly 1 AP per 3000 sq. ft at pwr level 4, but that seems overkill.
    Can we run mixed power levels on AP's with the phones? Or will that cause one way audio due to the transmit power diffrences in the cells?
    I'm thinking that we should pick a power level, survey the -67 cell size at the power level, add more AP's so that way they are overlapped 15-20%, and then actually implement the design. I'm pretty good at getting decent channel assignments in place. I know of non-overlapping channels, RRM, etc. I also have an AirMagnet laptop with an Aironet Adapter. It is good for finding noise, interference, etc...
    I understand this is practically a book, but at this point, we've been trying a LOT of different things in order to get this to work properly. I think it's finally time for me to "strongly suggest" that we do the following...
    1. Choose ONE phone model.
    2. Choose ONE AP model.
    3. Make sure to implement the 5Ghz band for all AP's so we have complete coverage.
    4. Choose ONE power level for each band. This will affect the coverage and placement of AP's. I'd imagine that we'd need to survey with A first, and then survey with b/g. Typically we can use the 1242 and get about the same cell size on both bands, but 5Ghz is a higher frequency and may not penetrate as much as 2.4 Ghz..
    5. Come up with a new coverage map based on a manual site survey with the phones mentioned above.
    6. Implement the design.
    7. Use it.
    8. Try not to have a heart attack when the system actually supports that many phones in that area...
    So, please, let me know your thoughts and if you have any suggestions. It would be greatly appreciated. We've been slowly working out the gremlins in the phones there over the past few years. I'm more of a data wireless person myself, but I do have good luck with a low to moderate phone count (usually no more than 7 calls per AP). Once we start doing craziness like trying to get 20-30 802.11B phones to work in the same area on only one or two AP's, then things start to become a challenge, especially when we don't have the 5Ghz cells to help with the bandwidth requirements for voice....
    Thank you for your time,
    Craig

  • [BUG] Flash plug-in crash with large images, sometimes

    Hello,
    I've been working with using Pixel Bender shaders in Flash and have encountered plugin / browser crashes when using shaders on large images, but only on certain machines.
    I've been unable to reproduce the crash on any machine I have physical access to, but was able to determine that it was caused by executing a shader on an image over 1028x1028 in size.  I created a test Flash file (http://www.saltgames.com/?page_id=283) that runs a simple shader on gradually increasing image sizes.  On most machines it will run fine, but on a few the Flash plugin (and possibly browser too, depending on the broswer) will lock up once it tries to render the 1500x1500 sized image.
    One user reported that although it crashed when using Firefox or Chrome, in Internet Explorer on the same machine it was fine.  I haven't been able to see a common feature in the set-ups that suffer this crash.
    I had approximately 50 people test a Flash game that featured shaders operating on large images, and 4 reported a crash.  Changing it to only run shaders on smaller image sizes seems to have fixed the crashes.

  • Help with adding image onclick

    Hey everyone,
    I am making a simple game in AS3 and need help with adding an image once they have click on something.
    On the left of the screen are sentences and on the right an image of a form. When they click each sentence on the left, writing appears on the form. Its very simple. With this said, what I would like to do is once the user click one of the sentences on the left, I would like a checkmark image to appear over the sentence so they know they have already clicked on it.
    How would I go about adding this to my code?
    var fields:Array = new Array();
    one_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onClick1a);
    one_btn.buttonMode = true;
    function onClick1a(event:MouseEvent):void
        fields.push(new one_form());
        fields[fields.length-1].x = 141;
        fields[fields.length-1].y = -85;
        this.addChild(fields[fields.length-1]);
        one_btn.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onClick1a);
        one_btn.buttonMode = false;
        //gotoAndStop("one")
    two_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onClick2a);
    two_btn.buttonMode = true;
    function onClick2a(event:MouseEvent):void
        fields.push(new two_form());
        fields[fields.length-1].x = 343.25;
        fields[fields.length-1].y = -85;
        this.addChild(fields[fields.length-1]);
        two_btn.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onClick2a);
        two_btn.buttonMode = false;
        //gotoAndStop("two")

    I don't know where you're positioning the button that should enable/disable the checkbox but for "one_btn" let's just say it's at position: x=100, y=200. Say you'd want the checkbox to be to the left of it, so the checkbox would be displayed at: x=50, y=200. Also say you have a checkbox graphic in your library, exported for actionscript with the name "CheckBoxGraphic".
    Using your code with some sprinkles:
    // I'd turn this into a sprite but we'll use the default, MovieClip
    var _checkBox:MovieClip = new CheckBoxGraphic();
    // add to display list but hide
    _checkBox.visible = false;
    // just for optimization
    _checkBox.mouseEnabled = false;
    _checkBox.cacheAsBitmap = true;
    // adding it early so make sure the forms loaded don't overlap the
    // checkbox or it will cover it, otherwise swapping of depths is needed
    addChild(_checkBox);
    // I'll use a flag (a reference for this) to know what button is currently pushed
    var _currentButton:Object;
    one_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onClick1a);
    one_btn.buttonMode = true;
    function onClick1a(event:MouseEvent):void
         // Check if this button is currently the pressed button
         if (_currentButton == one_btn)
              // disable checkbox, remove form
              _checkBox.visible = false;
              // form should be last added to fields array, remove
              removeChild(fields[fields.length - 1]);
              fields.pop();
              // clear any reference to this button
              _currentButton = null;
         else
              // enable checkbox
              _checkBox.visible = true;
              _checkBox.x = 50;
              _checkBox.y = 200;
              // add form
              fields.push(new one_form());
              fields[fields.length-1].x = 141;
              fields[fields.length-1].y = -85;
              this.addChild(fields[fields.length-1]);
              // save this button as last clicked
              _currentButton = one_btn;
         // not sure what this is
        //gotoAndStop("one")
    I'd also centralize all the click handlers into a single handler and use the buttons name to branch on what to do, but that's a different discussion. Just see if this makes sense to you.
    The jist is a graphic of a checkbox that is a MovieClip symbol in your library exported to actionscript with the class name CheckBoxGraphic() is created and added to the display list.
    I made a variable that points itself to the last clicked button, when the "on" state is desired. If I detect the last clicked button was this button, I remove the form I added and the checkbox. If the last clicked button is not this button, I enable and position the checkbox as well as add the form.
    What is left to do is handle the sitation where multiple buttons are on the screen. When a new button is pushed it should remove anything the previous button added. This code simply demonstrates clicking the same button multiple times to toggle it "on and off".

  • While opening specific Document "Not enough Memory" while rendering the Document with Large Image

    When Opening a PDF-File with a Large Image, the Adobe Reader and Acrobat will Crash while rendering with the Message Out of Memory.
    After some investigations this error is reproducable on Windows 2008 R2 and 2012 R2 Machines running on HP ProLiant BL460c Gen8.
    The Servers are updated with the latest Firmware from HP.
    This error does not occure on a Virtual Machine running Windows 2008 R2, so it seems like a Hardware dependent Bug.
    When disabling the Option Show large Images, the error will not Show up. But this is neither a solution nor a workarround, as we Need to Display all Information in the PDF.
    Thanks for any Help

    Hello SumitV
    Thanks for your answer.
    Indeed the Output File can be opened without any Errors. It's a good workarround, but it's not a solution.
    Why does it work (and much faster) on a Virtual Machine, but not on a very Powerful HP Machine?
    I hope Adobe will investigate in this case to solve it completely.
    We have a test machine where we could install some debug tools, are there any to get a deeper analysis of this problem?
    Thanks a lot.
