HORRIBLE BUZZING/HUMMING WHEN CONNECTING SYNTHESIZER TO GARAGEBAND?

Hi! I want to connect my synthesizer to garage band so that I can use it as a live instrument when recording. I have a MobilePre USB from M-Audio. I just sent for an Imic, and I just bought a guitar cable adapter today from Griffin. Ok, when I use the M-Audio I get a horrible hum. I've tried different wall outlets, different volume settings, nothing works! When I plug directly into the computer using the guitar cable adapter I get a buzzing sound. It's the same kind of sound you might get through a guitar amplifier when you are playing live. It's infuriating!! If I would have known that this was going to happen I would have never invested the money. Is this what happens with all instruments that have their own power? Will the Imic get rid of the buzzing? DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT I CAN DO PLEASE? HELP! Thanks, Jim.

try plugging it into an amp, and see if you get the same results. With the Mobile Pre, you didn't need to get an iMic or that cable stuff. The Mobile Pre is a better usb interface than the Griffin stuff. If you still get the noise through an amp, then try a different cable. You shouldn't be getting that with any instrument. There's a problem somewhere in the chain. You'll have to test each link in the chain to try and locate it. Do you have other instruments you can try?

  • Slight Buzz/Hum When Connected To Mains Adaptor

My MacBook is making a slight buzz/hum at the top left of the keyboard (by the esc key) when connected to the mains adaptor. It seems to be in the area of where there the magsafe connector is. Assume its the power 'board' or whatever its called making the noise.
The buzz seems to come and go, especially when the hard disk is accessed.
Just wondered if anyone ekse has experienced this or if I should be raising a support call as the MacBook is only a month old.
    Regards

I believe it's a CPU whine you're refering to. Try
opeining Photo Booth and see if the noise stops.
    The noise is still there.
I've reset the SMC as well.
The noise is only slightly noticeable and ONLY there with the power adptor connected.

  • Buzz/hum when connected to krk studio monitors

ok so i have an imac (3.06 ghz intel core duo). i had a klipshe 2.1 speaker system connected with no problems. then i bought a pair of krk rokit 6's studio monitors and just have a whole lot of humming now. so far ive connected headphones to my imac and no hum.... connected my ipod to the krk's and no hum..... connected my krk's to my macbook pro (while it was plugged into the same outlet as my imac) and no hum..... bought a m-audio fast track and connected the krk's through that to my imac and still it hums.... what gives? please help. thanks
    shawn

Shawn, I am getting a 1 KHz whine through Behringer Truth monitors using M-Audio USB Fast Track Ultra audio/midi interface with an iMac i5 27-inch with LED monitor. The whine occurs continuously from the moment I open Logic Studio or iTunes, when the output is routed through the Fast Track Ultra. The whine does not occur when I use the imac output to imac's speakers. I also get an electronic scraping noise when I use the blue tooth connected magic mouse. I have installed ferrites on the monitor speaker wires with no reduction in the whining noise or electronic scraping noise. I have also ordered the USB with ferrite collar to see if the connection between audio/midi interface and the imac is the source of the noise. I am considering a Hum-X, as well, but I am getting into serious money taking stabs at a problem for which there ought to be plenty of competent technical support. The fact that this whine is at 1 KHz and not lower suggests that I am not suffering a typical ground loop. I am a former Pro Tools user who never had a hum or whine from my Digi and G4, which I am seriously considering recomissioning so I can make music again. I am spending way too much time and money making educated guesses and trying to diagnose a problem that all but kills the utility and purpose of this new system. I too am calling on all great engineers to step up with a diagnosis and solution.

  • Macbook air making buzzing/humming when moved

I've had my macbook air for about 3 months and I hadn't had any problems with it. However, in the past few weeks it's started to make a very loud buzzing/humming noise. Sometimes it does it when the computer is just sitting still on my desk, but other times , if the table its on is shaken, or the computer itself is moved, the noise will start again. If I shut the computer and put it to sleep, the noise continues, but stops as soon as the computer is opened again. A few minutes later, the noise starts again. This process repeats several times and is honestly getting very annoying. The fan is always running less than 2500 rpms when it makes the noise and there aren't any extensive applications running (usually only safari and mail).
Is anyone else having this problem? Or has anyone else solved this problem? I've considered taking it to the Apple store, but it doesn't happen every single time the computer is used and would be hard to show to the people at the store.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated... thanks!

I've actually been having the same problem, and I've had my MBA for about the same amount of time. My computer also gets very warm, so I think its a fan issue. Sometimes the humming/buzzing stops and then it restarts after a minute. Mine sounds like its coming from under the power button. If I move the computer around, the noise changes slightly, but it goes back to the same drone. I think the average fan speed is 2500 if you aren't doing anything taxing. Mine hovers around 1000.
I'm going to take my computer into the Apple Store to see what they say...
Sorry I'm not much help. I just don't think you're the only one with a strange noise problem...

  • Buzzing noise when connected

When I connect my touch to my computer (this happens with Mac and PC), there is a very short buzzing sound that last just a split second that comes from the device. I'm fairly certain it wasn't doing that when I first got it. I can't tell if it's from the internal speaker or something mechanical. Since the touch has a flash drive I assumed there would not be any moving parts.
Is this happening with anyone else's?
Should I be worried about it?
    Thanks.

Are you sure its the Touch speaker? With my iPhone the wifi makes various sounds that bleed onto my computer speakers. And sometimes I thinks its the iPhone.

  • Buzzing sound when connecting my new airport express to bose system

I recently purchased the new Airport express with the purpose of streaming my music from itunes to my bose system. As soon as I connect my stereo to the Airport express a loud buzzin sound comes out even if the stereo volume is low.
I've tried the same cable plugged straight from the stereo to my ipad or laptop and this buzzing sound is not there at all. This only happens when I connect the stereo to the new Airport express.
Please help, before I have no option but to return it.
The device firmware is up to date.

Temporarily, plug a pair of headphones into the audio jack on the AirPort Express and test to see if you still hear the buzzing.
If no, then the Express is operating correctly. The issue is somewhere else....either an intermittent connection in your audio cable, or the jack on the Bose system is defective.
If you still hear the buzzing when you test the AirPort Express with a pair of headphones, the Express is defective and will need to be returned.

  • IPod (40G) started mains humming when connected to audio amp via dock

I have had my iPod connected to my audio amp through the Apple docking station while also connected to the Apple charger.
This setup worked for many months, especially when I purchased the infra-red remote control and could run the setup from my couch.
Recently, without making any obvious changes to the system, a loud mains related humm is heard. I know a thing or two about electronics, and I'm sure it's not a ground loop. The humm is also not coming from a defective loader because the 12 volt is clean (checked with a scope). The only way I can get rid of the humm is by connecting the headphone output to the input of the amp. This works, but now renders my remote control useless.
I suspect the docking station or a ground fault in the Fire-Wire cable, but I have no spares to switch them out.
Any out there with the same problem, or any ideas?
    Tks,
    Paul

If you are so sure that it is not the grounding issue of you audio system (make sure you did not make any change on wires or added any electronic device), then it could be caused by one of the following
    1. iPod itself (but unlikely)- try to do a Reset or Restore to factory setting
    2. Faulty iPod cable
    3. Faulty iPod ac charger
    4. Audio cable connection between the dock station and amp
    5. iPod dock station (likely poor contact between your iPod with the dock station)

  • Buzzing sound when connecting headphones to Mi

Quick question (maybe some folks can try this outfor me and let me know their findings):
I plugged my headphones into my Zen Micro today while I was wearing them (Shure ec2). The player was turned off. I heard a buzzing sound as I inserted the headphone jack, indicating that there was power applied to the jack, even with the player off. Is this normal?
I'm not overly concerned, just curious.

    Thanks, all.
Maybe it is related to battery drain. I will say this, though:
My Zen Micro seems to hold a charge much better tham my first generation iPod. If I left my iPod sit for more than a day or two, it would have to be recharged. Not so with my Zen Micro.

  • Im using Duet2 Interface with Garageband 09 when I connect my acoustic guitar to the combi jack I get a buzzing/humming sound how can I eliminate this?

I'm using Duet 2 Audio Interface with Garageband 09, when I connect my acoustic guitar to the combi jack I get a buzzing/humming sound.  How can I eliminate this?

do you have any thing plugged into wall power? Audio interface, computer, speakers, amp for the guitar? if so are they all plugged into the same power strip? if so, have you tried another outlet?
Altertively have you tried a diffrent port on the combo jack? Have you tried a diffrent guitar cable? Have you tried a diffrent guitar or audio input device like a mic? Is the device directly plugged into the combo jack, or is it being routed throughs some thing?

  • External Speaker big pop/buzz when connecting or disconnecting audio cable

My external speakers make a big buzz/pop every time I connect or disconnect the stereo mini 1/8" plug into the headphone jack -- if the speakers are turned up high at the time, it's enough to blow them.
This doesn't happen with headphones - just external powered sound. If I turn the external speakers way down or off, there is no pop/buzz when connecting; muting the sound through the Macbook Pro has no effect.
This happens on all external speaker systems I've tried (including the Soundsticks currently), and regardless of whether the MB is plugged in to power or not, and with or without any other external USB or Firewire devices attached. I've also tried various cables & connectors -- always the same result. This does not happen with the same speakers on an older iMac.
I've spoken to a couple other MB owners who have the same problem.
Any way around this? It would be easy enough to turn off the external speakers next the MB every time I plug or unplug -- but with it feeding 3 stereo systems throughout the house, it's a bit much every time...
    Thanks!

    {quote:title=Neville Mayfield wrote:}
The problem is caused by contact made with the components of the socket as it slides into its correct position. It is a small electrical charge that bridges the plug & socket segments and not related to the current sound setting on the MBP.
    I assume you like high volume from your speakers, much more than I would choose to have! I do get a slight buzz & pop myself and to my recollection always have done in 23 yrs of using computers.{quote}
With all do respect, this is not the problem here. I have the same problem as described by the thread starter, and having worked in the audio producing industry for many many years I can say with certainty that what you are describing is something else.
Sure, the traditional "high-volume-on-AMP-while-connecting-signal-source" issue is still present, as it is with any product you connect like that, but this is different: when a headphone is inserted, you can hear a clearly audible "click" followed by a very noticable humming/buzzing sound. It is almost like the machine has "fired up the audio engine" and you get to hear the idle sound.
If I play music in iTunes, stop playing, leave the headphone connected, the humming/buzzing disappears after a while, and when I press play on iTunes, the same "click/humming/buzz" is heard, even though I haven't pysically touched the connector.

  • Buzzing sound when I connect my pc to my dj mi

    Hello,
This is driving me nuts. What I'm trying to do is connect my pc through my Audigy 2 NX USB to my dj mixer so I can play tracks through my main system. I know the cords aren't the problem because they are high quality and they work fine in other applications. What could be some of the causes and/or solutions for this buzzing/humming sound that emanates.
The connection starts at my external sound card with an /8" phono plug that splits to two RCA's. These then connect to the back of my mixer into one of the "Line In" ports. Then the mixer signal is sent to a crossover and then to two amps for highs and lows and out to the speakers. It seems like it doesn't always happen so I was hoping someone could give me a checklist of things to examine so I don't waste hours trying everything. Thanks so much.

Hi, I am having the exact same problem as you are when I connect to my band mixer. I get sound but have an annoying hum that won't go away. I know it has to do with the sound card because if I connect to my laptop computer there is no hum or buzz. If you found a solution to this problem I would appreciate it if you could emal me at [email protected] Thank You, Frank

It is hard to be sure without seeing it, but it sounds like a bad connection to the docking port. (bad motherboard)

Thanks for the swift reply, I have been looking online and a loose plug seems to be somewhat of an issue with many, I hope mine is actually a problem and not what others are experiencing. It's taken me this long to even reach out for the simple fact I HATE being a complainer but this is just horrible.
Do you have an iPad 3 as well? And is yours not experiencing any issues close to mine?
    Thanks again!

When I hook the sound blaster and/or go direct from the computer to my stereo speakers their is a buzzing or feedback sound. Please help!!!

    Hi WiZKiD8499,
If you are able to charge your iPhone fine from the wall charger but are having intermittent charging issues when connected to your computer (both with the same cable), you may want to try another USB port directly on the computer and/or make sure that you are using a high powered USB 2.0 port, as outlined in the following article:
