Horrible chopper timeline playback peformance

Trying out Flash CC I'm getting absolutly horrible timeline playback performance.
I made a single circle graphic object, and using a classic tween between 2 points to make it travel across the screen.
The playback is so inconsistent.  24 fps, then hangs for a while, showing 5.75 fps, then 13 fps, then 18, back to 4.  it just can't display it properly.
System
Win 7 64bit
16gb ram
Nvidia Titan GTX 690 (tried latest official and beta drivers)
Scrubbing is choping as well, the time slider will get "stuck" on random frames and then jump to where the mouse is.
Are there any settings anywhere that changes what type of graphic renderer the software is using? eg: software/open gl etc?
I'm trying to see if there's something else running on my system that might be interfeering with it but no luck so far.
Does flash have problems with SLI cards such as a gtx 690?, can i run flash cc in a different mode that might help prevent this terrible performance?  Its impossible to do any animation like this.
Thanks

I dont see this happen on my system. If will be great if you can do the following test:
- Close the timeline and then play the movie using Menu / Keyboard shortcuts? Both playback and stepping frames.
That way we can know if it is a timeline or a stage issue.

  • CUDA always works great on timeline playback but sometimes not at all on Export+MRQ enabled?

    Hi,
I have Premiere CS 5.5.2 on Mac with Lion 10.7.2. System is Q6600, 8 GB DDR2, graphics is Nvidia GTX 560, 1 GB DDR5, 256 bit. AVCHD 1080i material exporting to PAL DV.
CUDA works great on timeline playback but SOMETIMES (3rd time in 3 months) when I export with MRQ enabled it simply does not kick in at all. Exporting times are high as exporting without CUDA, the graphics card's coolers don't speed up like they do when I play the timeline or when exporting with CUDA was working.
If I cancel the export CUDA works just like before when I play the timeline. If I go to export, again, it does not work. Very high export times. I click cancel again and it works fine playing the timeline, the coolers on the graphics card go slightly up as to indicate that th GPU is beeing used, everything is just fine. MRQ is always enabled and the project preferences are set to use CUDA.
Twice I solved this problem by closing EyeTV since I thought that this was the issue because maybe this program was using somehow the video acceleration and no more room was left for CUDA, but last time even this did not work. I closed EyeTV, restarted Premiere but nothing. Same problem, CUDA worked just fine playing the timeline WITH EyeTV running but not when exporting with MRQ. I had to restart the computer to get CUDA to work on export with MRQ enabled.
With CUDA: 30 minutes of AVCHD 1080i footage + logo applied and export with MRQ = 15 minutes exporting time to PAL DV.
Without CUDA or when CUDA does not work on export: 3 hours exportinng time to PAL DV.
For those who don't know EyeTV is a tv tuner application and I use it on DVB-C to monitor 2 national TV channels that are on the same digital multiplex. I opened up even 6 channels at the same time on the same multiplex and CUDA still worked fine on the timeline.
MRQ is always checked, always ON.
All I want to know if there is anyone else with this issue, wheter on Windows or Mac, their observations and what they tried to solve this issue.
    Thanks a lot,
    Best regards,
    Dj Lyon

  • Can I view Timeline Playback via my Canopus ADVC300?

I have a Canopus ADVC300 attached to my Mac Pro via a Firewire connection. The composite video out is connected to a SD TV. Can I make the timeline playback to this TV as an external monitor? (I used to do this when I had my PC and used AVID Liquid.) I was able to "Print to Tape" and gat the video on the TV, but I'd like to be able to see the timeline playback directly. What would be the correct settings? Has anyone done this successfully? Please let me know.
    Thanks
    Art

Yes, you can. I have one and works just fine.
Set the video out to Apple firewire NTSC (or PAL), all frames, audio follows video.
Make sure your audio is also being fed from the canopus or you'll have playback sync issues.
fwiw, Print to Video is for sending to a VTR.

  • Recording timeline playback to external DVR without printing to video

I am having trouble recording timeline playback to an external Panasonic DVR via firewire. Do I need some sort of convertor to make it work? I've also tried going through a DV camera and then to the DVR, but it drops frames like crazy. Most of my projects are about 2+ hours, and I don't have time to compress and burn internally. Help!
    G5 Quadcore   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

With both my Panasonic and Ben-Q DVRs, I cannot actually record to disk thru the FW from the computer. I pass thru my DV deck.
I find that I first have to export the Sequence as a Quicktime Movie (not self contained works fine) then bring that into the Viewer and just play it from there. I don't actually use Print to Tape for this, I just play it from the Viewer
This generally has worked fine but once in a while I get sync issues

  • Premiere CS6 timeline playback problem.

I keep having a reoccurring problem with my timeline playback. After about 30 seconds or so of playback, the cursor returns to the point it started and the picture freezes, but the audio continues unhindered. I've tried numerous things. The most successful of these was uninstalling Quicktime, which improved the situation greatly, but not completely. Obviously I need Quicktime, but on installing it again the problem has reoccurred. Any help much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Thanks Richard
BM released some new drivers on 21st Jan. I installed these and the problem has now gone!
Many thanks for all your help.

  • Choppy timeline playback after motion effects

I'm working in FCP 7.0.1, on a MacPro Quad-Core Intel Xeon 2.26 GHz processor, working with footage pulled off the trusty JVC GY-HM100U HD camera.
I've created an editing project that adopted the default footage codec settings (XDCAM EX 1080p24 (35 Mb/s VBR) ), and my issue is that whenever the sequence playhead passes over a "motion tab" effect in the timeline (i.e. traveling frames, cropped/zoomed footage), the playback thereafter hitches and stutters. Regardless of whether I set the RT to safe or unlimited, or the image quality to dynamic or low/med/high, I seem to get the same effect. Worse yet, if I click onto an entirely different sequence from another project, the stuttering playback occurs there as well. It seems that I need to quit and restart FCP if I want seamless playback after the playhead gets "infected" by a simple motion tab effect.
Just to note, there is nothing in the timeline that even needs rendering, and I've ruled out irregular window abutment and sizes that I've read elsewhere can interfere with playback.
I have more than enough processor firepower on my rig to push this footage around -- any ideas on what gives?

    Bumping this topic up higher.

  • Poor Timeline Playback Performance

I am using Premiere Pro CS4 (version 4.2.1) to edit some footage from my Canon Vixia HG20 (AVCHD). While previewing the clips in the source monitor, they play flawlessly, but as soon as I drop the same clip on the timeline, the playback is very slow. I have maybe 10 clips from the camera on the timeline. The first second or two plays fine, then it starts dropping frames. After about 8 seconds, its playing at one frame a second, and before long the playback just freezes. This makes the program nearly unusable in that I can't edit with performance like this. All of these clips play fine in the source monitor.
I am using Premiere Pro CS4 on a MacBook Pro running 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard). 2.4 gHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB of RAM. Premiere is installed on a 7200RPM hard drive and all the footage is on another 7200RPM drive (both with plenty of space; the second drive is the scratch disk).
I've look for solutions in the forums and online, but haven't found many suggestions directed at Mac users. I've looked at optimizing my system for Premiere, but it didn't seem to have much noticeable difference. Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Sadly, being a college student, I don't have a budget to start building a new machine just quite yet, so I need to work with what I got.
I'm posting my solution to the problem just in case someone else is having the same issue.
Because using the original footage was just too slow on my machine, I decided to give proxy footage a try. I downloaded Wondershare Converter (for Mac computers) to convert AVCHD to a standard def quicktime file. The trial version of the program places a giant watermark on the video, but because I'm just using this for cuts and general edits, I don't really care about the watermark.
Once I got all the footage converted, I used a Terminal command to batch rename all the files with the .MTS extension. I placed this footage into its own folder separated from the original. Then I flip-flopped the names of the folders to Premiere was now pointing to the proxy footage. I made all my edits, saved and quit, flip-flopped the folder names back to their original and reopened Premiere. Viola! HD footage cut to perfection! :-)

  • Timeline Playback Issue - OSX

I have two iMacs that are having this issue. When I am using the J, K, and L keys to play and shuttle through the timeline the L key does not play it just skips forward one frame every time I press its. This will happen forever unless I press the space bar to play then go back to using the L key. I pretty much deal only with several camera shoots, so I cannot determine if it is better or worse with single cam timelines.
    OSX 10.9.3
    2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
    8GB DDR3 RAM
    Hitachi 7200RPM HDD
ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB
    Premiere Pro 7.2.2
Footage is AVCHD 1080i 60fps playing off of a harddrive
I also notice that sometimes the playhead won't actually go to where I place it when I click on the timeline, it will jump to it then instantly jump back to where it was originally; not sure if this is related or another issue.
Does anyone else experience this? What can I do to correct it?

    Jim,
You keep making the same mistake over and over and you obviously do not understand that a single disk has more tasks than just feeding a media stream from disk. If that was the only thing, you might have been correct, but it is ridiculous to state that a single slow disk is enough for editing.
You simply forget Windows housekeeping tasks (system clock, network access, indexing, file tags, logs, etc.) , access to the page file, loading and unloading DLL's needed by services and processes running, Adobe accesssing indexed, conformed and peak files and the database pointers to them, the raw media, the accessing of importer and exporter modules, the effects and transition modules, the playback engine, backup of project files, Adobe logs, etcetera, etcetera.
You always assume that time lines have only one track, not multiple tracks and each track in use more than doubles the bandwidth requirements.
You conveniently forget audio processing and multiple audio tracks. In short, you give a very lobsided story than is completely inaccurate.
No hard feelings, but I think you better adjust your stance on this.

  • Premiere Elements 10 timeline playback pictures keep freezing

Hi, I'm using Premiere Elements 10 and when I playback my timeline, most of the time at least part of the video pictures freeze or judder whilst the sound stays continuous. This is obviously a total nightmare in terms of trying to edit! I am new to Elements (am used to editing on Avid and FCP) - am not very impressed so far!
I have established that it is not a problem with my laptop. Also - when I start up Elements it gives me a link to this page http://www.adobe.com/special/premiereel/downloads/ saying I need to update BUT all those updates seems to be for "themed content" - so I am assuming that a) I don't need them and b) that they are unrelated to the freezing issue - Is that right?
    Any help hugely appreciated!
    Thanks.

Thank you for the screen grab. You're right. The MOV video from the DSLR does seem to be matched to the project settings. (I assume you've got the latest version of Quicktime installed.) So it could be that your system is just lugging.
Your hardware is good for basic video editing -- but you're editing 1920x1080 24p. With version 10, that can be a bit demanding for a dual core running at 1.8 ghz. Particularly on a laptop, which tends to have a slower throughput.
You still haven't said what operating system you're using or how much RAM you have. But if you're running Windows 7 or 8 at 64-bit and you have at least 4 gigs of RAM, you may want to download the demo of Premiere Elements 11. It's got a much more efficient HD engine that runs at 64-bit on those OSes.
One of my computers is a dual-core Intel running at 2.6ghz, and the difference in the way it handles AVCHD video in Premiere Elements 10 and the way it handles it in Premiere Elements 11 is like day and night.
It's possible Bill or Neale or John or ATR or another of the regulars on this forum have additional thoughts. But, based on the questions you did answer, that's about all I can offer. Sorry.

  • No audio heard from sequence during timeline playback

I am a new user to PPro CS 5.5, just opening my first project.
I have captured a few clips and brought them into the project. Previewing them in the source window, I see the video track play and hear the audio track.
I moved one of the clips onto the timeline and attempted to view it. I see the video playing but no audio is heard.
I opened the clip in Audition. the audio played there, no problem
I am sure there must be a configuration parameter to set but I cannot find it.
Can someone suggest where I can look?
    Thank you

Examining the source window playback settings, I see that realtime Playback has no external device selected in the drop down and Desktop audio is selected with the button. External Device is grayed out.
With these settings, I hear the audio track.
Examining the editing window playback settings, I see something very different.
The menu box is titled Blackmagic playback settings.
The only option entry in the menu box is: a choiceto "Turn off Dropped frame Warning"
I have a Blackmagic Intensity Pro card installed on my PC and used it to capture my video clip on mini-DV tape played from my Sony GV-HD700 videocasette.
Why am I seeing this BM menu reference only on the editing window? Is this the indication of my problem?
I went back to defining another sequence and the menu choice opened with the same path, as my previous first time at this, to a Blackmagic selection. I changed to a HDV 1080i selection for this 2nd sequence. When I dropped the clip into the 2nd sequence, presto, the sound was there.
Now I am wondering what is the blackmagic option for?
What is the difference between the source and editing window parameters?
That is left to when I have more time to dig into it.
    Thanks again

  • Premiere Pro CS6 timeline Playback stops

    Hello Community,
I am having this strange problem for a while:
The Playback from any timeline stops after approx. 24 minutes from any timeline. Video freezes, Audio keeps on playing normally, but TC in Programm Windows jumps to around 30 seconds and runs from there.
    W7 64 Bit
    I am using a I7 3930K with 32 GB Ram
Very fast hard disks (also tried other) and PP in Version 6.05
Blackmagic Decklink SDI Output (Driver Version 9.7.1.0)
    NVIDIA GTX 770 (9.18.13.3523)
The problem occurs each time at the exact same frame. If i start a minute later it stops as well a minute later.
I am not getting this, hope somebody ca help me out here...

Is it only that one sequence, or anything you play?

  • Timeline playback issues

I am having issues with the playback of clips in my timeline.  The clips will play for 1 or two seconds then stop.  If I click play the same thing repeats over and over.  The odd thing is that I can intermittently on occasion play the timeline without doing anything differently.
Before we go too deep pointing blame at hardware issues I am able to play these clips with NO problems using Aunsoft Final Mate, Windows Media Player as well as AE writer 5.0 which came with my camcorder.  I have the Panasonic HCX920. This camera records 1080/60p. with 5.1 channel audio.  When I select project assets I get the following info.  Type: MPEG Movie Size 1920X1080, frame Rate 59.94, Pixel ratio 1, average data rate 3Mb/sec, source audio 48Khz compressed 6 ch.,project audio 48Khz 32 bit floating point 6 ch.
I record to SandiskExtreme Pro SDHC UHS-I cards 16 GB.  I am adding the media using the 1080/60p preset in Elements 11.  I save my projects on my C drive but keep everything else including the imported video, scratch discs etc on my WD RE 4TB SATAIII hard drive.
I am running Windows 7 Pro 64Bit  I have 16 GB of RAM and the processor is the Intel i5-2500k CPU at 3.3GHz.
I have updated my Nvidia video card driver to the latest its the GT430.  I have also made sure that I am running the latest version of Quicktime.
I purchased the Adobe Premiere elements 11 Classroom in a book and have read it.  I have checked the problem solving docs on adobe's web site.  My concern is that I can play back these clips without any issues on everything that I have tried except PE11.
Correct me if I am wrong but I am supposed to play the entire timeline from beginning to end by pressing play without interruptions correct?
I have tried rendering the timeline but that doesn't seem to do anything.  There is no indication that lets you know if rendering is in progress or if completed. I know that  PE11 supports 1080/60p but is this cameras output something that PE11 doesn't handle?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    98taxi
Please excuse the question, I was reading about your Panasonic HCX920 offerings and noted  AVCHD 1080p60 and AVCHD 3D.
What is the difference in the properties between the two so that one can distinquish between the two on a MediaInfo or other properties readout?
    You wrote
I have tried rendering the timeline but that doesn't seem to do anything.  There is no indication that lets you know if rendering is in progress or if completed.
When you tried to render the Timeline containing the 1080p60, was there an orange line, green line, or no colored line over its content on the Timeline? If you have no colored line or a green line, there is no rendering when you press the Render Button or press Enter or go Timeline/Render Work Area, just playback of your Timeline. The colored line indicator system is the program telling you whether or not it feels that you are getting the best possible preview for what you are seeing in the Edit Mode monitor at playback. With no colored line or green indicator, no rendering since the program feels that you are getting the best possible preview. You realize that once you edit that "rendered" clip it will require rendering to get the best possible preview of what you then have. If orange line over time and you render, you know the rendering process is complete when the orange line is completely replaced by a green one.
When all is said and done, at this point, if you export your 1080p60, what does the export look like on your player? Are you seeing the same problems in the export as you are seeing at the Timeline level?
If you are exporting the 1080p60, then to what...1080p60 with 5.1 channel audio? If you want to do that, as 1080p60 with AAC 5.1 Channel Audio I can tell you how to do that. Can do as AAC but not Dolby Digital.
If you did want to follow up on JMJarrige's suggestion about deleting the BadDrivers.txt file, in your Windows 7 64 bit, the BadDrivers.txt file can be found in the path:
    Local Disk C
    Program Data
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    11.0
and in the 11.0 Folder is the BadDrivers.txt file that you delete.
I may have missed the information in what has already been written, so I would appreciate it if you could remind me how you are importing your 1080p60 into Premiere Elements
    a. from memory card into Premiere Elements via one of the Add Media choices as mentioned by SG, that is, the FLIP one
    or
    b. transferring your 1080p60 to the computer hard drive save location, followed by import into Premiere Elements 11 via its Add Media/Files and Folders?
    Just some thoughts.

  • Reassign keyboard shortcut for timeline playback

How can I reassign the keyboard shortcut for playback on the animation timeline?  Right now it is the spacebar.  If I hold the spacebar, it switches to the move tool.  If I tap it, it plays back my animation.  Too often I accidentally tap for playback when I just want to use the move tool.  I'd much rather have the two be separate keys altogether.
I use Photoshop CS5 Extended on Windows 7.

    Hi there -
If you go to Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts, and select "Panel Menus" from the "Shortcuts For" dropdown menu, you can set (or change) shortcuts for the Timeline panel.
**EDIT: Couldn't seem to find the spacebar shortcut for play/stop in this menu...still trying to find a solution for you. Alternatively, you can uncheck Enable Timeline Shortcuts Keys from the Timeline panel to disable the shortcuts.

  • Premiere Timeline Playback Stuttering & Stopping

    Hello,
I am editing a 3-5min project shot on the Red Camera. I am trying to play my interviews in the timeline but Premiere CC continues to get backed up and slow down. I contacted the company who shot the footage and they advised me to lower the resolution in playback to about 1/8th, however, the lowest Premiere CC is allowing me to drop the resolution is 1/2, which plays the video a little better, but not fast enough for me to get my work done efficiently. Is there a way I can get Premiere CC to allow me to drop my resolution further (to 1/8th or 1/16th)?

    Hi Dan,

RED files usually have the ability to drop to at least 1/8 resolution. Can we get the specs of the .r3D file?
    Thanks,
