Horrible colors in Safari 2.0.4

Along with the new Mac Pro came Safari 2.0.4, and a surprise that I could do without. The images on my photo-site - www.Peermann.com - are way too contrasty and saturated when viewed in Safari 2.0.4; almost as bad as in ancient versions of Internet Explorer.
When viewed in Firefox and Netscape on the same machine and monitor, they look identical to the original image in Photoshop. And Safari 1.3.2 on my iBook displays them correctly as well.
All images have an embedded sRGB color profile, which should make them look better in Safari than in any other browser, since only Safari is able to read color profiles. Kinda ironic that it is the way around, but I am unable to laugh about this.

I was logging into a web site yesterday and Safari asked if I wanted it to remember my log-in details; I accidentally said "Never Ask Again"...
Barry, I'm pretty sure from Matt's description that we're not talking about cookies, but rather Safari's own function to save usernames/passwords in the Keychain. The prompt above is the wording Safari uses.
Matt, try the following:
Go to Safari > Preferences and click on the Autofill tab.
Click on the "Edit" button next to "User names and passwords."
Scroll through the list to find the web site in question, where you should see "Passwords never saved" in the "User Name" column.
When you find the entry you're looking for, click on it once to highlight it and click the "Remove" button. Then click the "Done" button.
You might want to quit and relaunch Safari to make sure this change takes affect. Then go back to that web site and try logging in again. If all is well, Safari should now ask if you want to save your user name and password.

  • Change visited link color in Safari 5.1.3

Visited link colors in Safari, most notably visited Google links when I return to the search page, don't change colors as they used to do...  Actually, I think it's been that way for a long time (years) now but I am just now coming back around to being interested in why and if there is a way to get back to the days where new links were BLUE and visited links were GREEN (or whatever color you wanted)...
Is this still possible with the new Safari and if so, how do you go about setting this visted link color preference???
    thanks... bob...

This appears to be an issue affecting most versions of Safari from about version 5 onwards.
I recently experienced it with Safari version 5.0.6 and eventually found a fix adequate for my purposes.
1 - Sometimes simply selecting 'Private Browsing' (on Safari menu) and then deselecting it cures the problem.
2 - If that does not work I use the following Terminal command which has, so far, worked every time:
defaults write com.apple.Safari RegisteredSafariSyncClient -bool false
I must point out that I do not intend to use any sync services but it appears that if Safari gets confused it is necessary to use this command to reset its sync services.
3 - If you don't like using the Terminal command you could trash the following preference file although this more brutal approach is more likely to lose data:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Quit from Safari before attempting 2 or 3.
I have only tested the Terminal command on Safari 5.0.6 on a Leopard G4 without any user defined sync services but it will probably work on other versions and OSs. It is always safest to backup first.

  • Color managing Safari 4.0.3

I read Safari is automatically color managed and it is linked to the ICC profile the display is using.
I use a colorimeter for monitor calibration and my display profile is set to that created profile. Am I getting accurate colors with Safari? I just want to be able to view sRGB correctly.

  • Background color on Safari

I need to have a clear (tranparent) background so that the background image shows through. Everything I read says the default background color is transparent (which I thought). All is fine on IE and Firefox. However, on Safari the background is white. Adding background-color: transparent; does not help either, it stays white. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Toby
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Open System Preferences via the Apple Menu in the upper left corner of your screen. Go to "Universal Access">Seeing. There, change the display setting from "black on white" to "white on black". This affects all applications and panels. There, you can also "increase the contrast" to suit your viewing requirements.

  • Visited iPad 3 search links don't change color in Safari

The iPad 3 (iOS 5.1) Safari search links returned from a Yahoo or a Google search don't change color after visiting them like they do on the iMac. Is this a known behavior?

  • Help please-Text hyperlink does not change color on Safari?

I have set up certain links on my page to change color once they have been scrolled over or clicked. After publishing my site this feature is not active on Safari, but works on Firefox. I have visited other sites that have been made on iWeb and seen that this feature is active on Safari, so I know it is possible to create this feature. If there are any suggestions or tricks that would help me I would greatly appreciate it.

I am having the exact same problem. I cross-posted your submission to jaycheryl's thread after confirming, with my pages, your bottom-line observation that Firefox displays the code correctly.
The only difference in our situations is that I didn't edit any colors. I'm just using one of iWeb's stock themes. Some of my hyperlinks are OK in Safari and all of the iWeb created hyperlinks, e.g. the <next> and <previous> blog navigation buttons are OK even on new pages.
p.s. I don't see, or can't link to the "Helpful" answers available: 2 . "Solved" answers available: 1 displayed at the top of the thread?

  • Too contrast colors in Safari 6.0

Colors in new Safari 6.0 have become weird, too contrast if you will.

New Safari (look at the background of the icons and on the edges of blocks):

Reading between the lines (...the word entire gave me a much needed clue) I realized that both my wife and I had passwords to this website and I needed to delete both sets of lines. After months of not thinking of this system quirk it's now done. Thanks.
Of course, I had been clicking on the entire line, username-website-password, but it hadn't been working. I had given up months ago but now just felt lucky to try again.

  • My toolbar changed colors in Safari for Windows

My entire menu bar, toolbar, and bookmarks bar is now a weird beige / yellow color. Anyone have any idea what's up? I'm using Safari 5.0.2 on XP. No other browser is affected, my theme remains the same, and I can't find a preference that affects this. It only changed on the last update of Safari for Windows.
    You can see it here:
    http://bit.ly/eQLd5D

I've the same "problem". Everything is in an ugly Beige/yellow colour. I'm using 5.0.4. I have no idea how to change it, and I have tried a lot of things. On my laptop, I use a older version of Safari, there is everything in a kind of silver colour.

  • Panasonic GF1 horrible color cast

It seems that Aperture has some serious issues with a magenta color cast when converting GF1 RAW files. It's not so apparent with 100-200 ISO (but still there, especially whith large white balance shifts) images but once you get to ISO 800 the images become unusable.
The color cast is mostly apparent in the dark(er) parts of the image.
Check out the following links to some quick test images that illustratie the problem perfectly. The first link is the image developed in Aperture (latest version) with the white balance set on the white wall in the background. The second link is the same image developed through the latest Camera Raw with the white balance set in the exact same spot.

    http://www.benoitvermeeren.be/forumpics/GF1_1704CRaw.jpg
The Camer Raw image is perfect. Is anybody else seeing this issue with the GF1 (or other Panasonic cameras with similar sensors). It makes using the GF1 with Aperture impossible.
It's quite unfortunate as Aperture performs great with my D700 images and I really don't want to switch to Lightroom because it's horrible as a library management application compared to Aperture (altough Camera Raw is giving me better results and noise reduction, lens correction and split toning are great, but I digress...).
Also check out this thread for a similar experince with the GH2 (+4 months old):
    http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1041&message=37849807&chang emode=1
The people in that thread have sent feedback to Apple and AFAIK this hansn't been resolved yet so I'm not getting my hopes up.

Raw files are not visible. They must be converted to an image file format in order to be seen. This is done in-camera for display on the LCD screen, and for export of JPG (or other) files. For almost all cameras, any processing which changes the appearance is done to a JPG file.
When you import raw files +you do not get the JPG processing+. That's what raw is -- it's the light information prior to being converted to an image format. (The are enormous advantages to having this data available.) That is why your raw file previews are in color.
There are a number of monochrome and grayscale conversion presents in all raw development programs. It is generally accepted that these do a better job than most of the in-camera converters. There is no question that they give a choice among many -- as well as the ability to tweak them to your heart's -- or your printer's -- content, unlike the baked-in conversions done in-camera.
In short, raw is never black & white or monochrome. Adobe has a good older white paper on raw which is worth reading: +Understanding Digital Raw Capture+.
    OS X is working correctly.

  • Table border colors & Firefox/Safari

I've noticed that when I set a table border color (using the

    Firefox recognises:
    .table {border: 1px solid #black}
black being the border color.... so not sure why you say that
    it doesn't
    recognise it :)

  • Horrible Color Management in Windows 8.1 and PhotoshopCC (solution)

Perhaps you what happened to me. Windows 8.1 and in my case a laptop Asus Intel Core I5.
CC install the brand new Photoshop (or other) and color management is Horrible ... no ... the following.
The black and white is sepia ... And the colors are nothing real touch all settings and no result ... I almost went crazy. I think the solution is going to cost more people. And when they discover is a great relief.
We go to the control panel
The first will .... Color Management.
The second will .... Advanced Options.
    And choose "Adobe RGB 1998".
    And thus solved
En español. Seguir este link. http://rapulsel.blogspot.com.es/2013/12/gestion-de-color-horrible-en-windows-81.html

Rapulsel, color-management cannot successfully be taught on a forum in a "for dummies" fashion.  It's been tried and usually it leads to trouble.
Color-management is non-trivial, and it's the kind of thing that can make you want to run away from it screaming before the light finally goes on and you get your head around it.
However, after that you will understand it and you will find you can solve your color-management problems and produce imagery and work products that are predictable.  You results will be second to none.
The problem you are having most likely is that someone (the manufacturer?) associated a color profile with your display that does NOT actually describe the color response of your display.  It happens.  And it consistently screws things up when it happens.
A first step you can take to undo that, before going and learning how to make a color profile that more precisely describes your display, is this:
Open WIndows' Color Management panel, in the Devices tab choose [ ] Use my settings for this device,
[Add...] the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 color profile.
If it is not marked as (default), select it and press the [Set as Default Profile] button.
This sets your default profile to a common default set of color characteristics that many displays are designed to implement.
This may make your colors more tolerable, and they'll match that displayed e.g., by Internet Explorer.
Then go off and do some reading.  It's well worth taking the time and spending the effort to learn how color-management works.  I advise reading about it in multiple places online, always keeping in mind that some (maybe a lot of) people who don't really know much more than you do try to teach it to others.  Understand that there aren't really good "just do this" or "set it and forget it" answers, and that just because something is published online or even in a book doesn't make it gospel worthy of blind faith.  Read multiple sources, and try to distill out the essence of what they are saying.
    Good luck.

  • Colors in Safari and IE

Hello. I'm not very good at web design. I have a problem when
viewing my site on different browsers. The pink background i'm
using in dreamweaver was replicated in photoshop images i made for
the site, by typing in its colour code. however, when i view these
images on my site in safari, the pinks dont quite match, making it
obvious where my images end and where my web page background meet.
Internet explorer has no problems though.
any help on what i should do ?

Or if you are trying to match a jpg image with an HTML color

  • Different Colors in Safari & Explorer

    Hello there,
First to get an answer to my question to "why the colors look different on Safari and Explorer" I thought I would browse through some posts here. I found out that .jpg files should have a color profile (sRGB) assigned to them so they look right on Safari as they do (automatically) in Explorer.
Well, I went back and assigned a sRBG profile to the .psd file from which I was creating .jpg files for a website I am working on... But all to no avail. The images look darker and more saturated in Safari than in Explorer.
Could anybody give me a clue as for what I am doing wrong? And what can I do to fix the problem?
    Thank you very much.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi iBod,
Thanks for offering your help. But I think I figured out how to fix it. Instead of an sRGB profile, I assigned a Generic RGB one, which helped in eliminating the overall darkness and color saturation of the .jpg images in Safari. Now the same jpeg looks the same both in Safari and Explorer.
Yet I think Apple people should take this into account while improving next generations of Safari browsers.
    Cheers,
    nycgraphiste

  • Bad Colors on Safari vs Firefox

OK, I've begun to notice that Safari 4 is displaying color on jpegs very poorly while Firefox displays them exactly as they were saved in Photoshop.
I've put up a page showing the contrast at my website:
    http://www.penart.com/firefoxvsafari
    Safari seriously desaturates the colors.
The shot was taken on a 23" apple monitor, using OS 10.4.11.
Apparently the problem is that Safari no longer assigns an sRGB profile to jpegs that weren't saved with a color profile, which must be like 90% of the jpegs on the web. I'm seeing the same problem on other designer's and artist's websites I look at.
If that's correct, the only solution is everyone who has jpegs without profiles has to resave them with sRGB profiles attached and reupload them. OR Safari needs to start re-assigning profiles automatically so everyone's images don't look bad. If I resave an image with an sRGB profile and reupload it, it displays like the image looks in Firefox, and originally looked in Photoshop.
    Anybody else notice this?
