Horrible defect in E71-1 (01) 300.21.012 firmware...

Hi
I would just like to report that there is a nast defect with the E71-1 (01) 300.21.012 firmware:
Even when the Message Notification is enambled on the Home Screen, the SMS notification icon with the number of received SMSs does not appear upon receiving a new SMS. The user has to go through the Messaging menu to get to the Inbox to read the new SMS.
Please provide a fix for this defect immediately as I am stuck with the new firmware with this defect!!!!

I would say hold off on the frimware upgrade. I've just found anothe rhorrible defect! The clock starts to lag after setting the right time. i.e. if i set the time to 1PM, then after 12 hours, instead of showing 1AM, it shows something like 11:30 PM... and starts lagging even more as time goes on.
I can't believe a firmware release would have so many critical and obvsious defects. I am now stuck with the new firmware until someone from Nokia sees this post and does something about it

This is extremely worrying and nasty. Nokia should really look at these posts and fix these defects so that I can start using my phone once again!

300.21.012 Firmware for E71

I have 210.21.006 firmware on my E71 but trying to down load & upgrade to 300.21.012 but am not successful always there is some problem or other, which was never there in earlier downloads / upgrades. I there any way we can download this 300.21.012 firmware on pc and upgrade our handset or directly dwon load/upgrade on handset.

I spoke to my contact in three luton about V40 aparently they are going to keep one Firmware behind the Nokia Vanilla FW for approx 2 months to make sure any V40 bugs can be patched or even incorporated into v30 like they did with there previously outdated FW (they bugpatched the older FW 2 weeks before the v30 update)
p.s. at least v30 and v40 on three will not be nearly 18 months outdated this time lol

Nokia E71 software version 300.21.012 released

Is this software update includes fix for Russian characters?
Previous version with the same 300.21.012 number had some problems with ъэ characters.

I installed this update software. Sip and fring used to work fine for me before. Not any more. I never got to handle a full conversation any more: it disconnect, I cannot hear the person I call, or they cannot hear me. It's a mess. I thought that updates were supposed to be better than the previous version. It makes me rethink the whole reason why I bought the E71 in the first place: being able to call people abroad from any internet friendly cafes. There is even a another bug, although this one is not really bothering me much. When I choose Breathing light off in gerenal profile/ personalize, I used to get a cool dark grey bar with the current time. Every minute, the bar would move and update the time. Now the bar is frozen to the time where the phone locked itself and is not updated! If they don't fix the Sip and Fring bug, I'll switch to iPhone.

E71 Update to 300.21.012 Report

Did install new Firmware, this is the report... what- or who-ever it might help.
Did have 200.21.118 and did install 300.21.012.. it said something about improved performance, which i need because maps and sporttracker running in parallel does not work smooth any more since maps 3.0.
I did get the message that this version is available few days ago (E71-Code is 0569803).
I did synch with my PIM on the Windows-XP-machine, and then made a backup with PC Suite.
When checking for update the Software Updater said it is version v1.7.3.de
Did download 107,1 MB, then started to install without problems.
E71 did ask Country, Date, Time after update.
Then restore of all data, went fine. (Everything was gone)
Then did ask to install something for NokiaSuite, i did agree.
Then did ask to install "Contacts Group DS Plugin", what the ... is that? Did accept.
I was a litte bit disappointed because:
- Maps Version v2.0 wk39b04 was installed
- Nokia Sportstracker 1.78 dated from 19-06-2008 was installed.
So now... update of maps. Did use Setup_Nokia_Maps_Updater_1.0.8.exe.
After that i did start, and it told me that there is a newer version. I did agree to get the update, and again a download of 20MB.
Then again.... new start of the software and then "There is no newer version... use MapLoader to update your maps"...
What the .... is that?
After some trials and no success, i did 2 things in parallel:
I searched in the internet, and was able to download a newer updater via the Europe-Site, the German-Site from Nokia seems not to send newest version.
The second idea was: maybe the 3.0 Map-data on memory-card is fooling it? So did remove the card.
Installed Maps_Updater 1.0.10 as admin, (does not install as user who does not have admin rights.)
Here we go,.... now there are different screens, showing update to Maps 3.0...
Downloading 5,25 MB, then it asks to continue installation on device.
There it shows version 3.01(17).
After installation still the old icon on start-screen, so i did shut down, plugged in the mem-card, and reboot.
New OVI-Maps-Icon on start screen now !!!
Now i have maps v3.01 09wk26 b02
Installation of Sportstracker 2.06 26-03-2009 went smooth.
Some other applications were missing, but was able to install all, except Enhanced Calculator.
That one did refuse to install with Certification Error. But funny.... after a while i did find the installation file in the root of the mem-card, and with that one it did install without problems.
Remote Sperrcode was gone, activated and installed new SMS-text...
Activated Mem-Card-Security .... not sure if it was activated before, probably not.
That's it. Everything seems to work fine, but still have to explore everything over the next days...

My own experience:
When I launched the Nokia Software Updater, it told me there was a new version of the updater available. It downloaded it and, as usual, it failed to install it. This is not a new problem. So I downloaded the separate update package and installed the new vesion. I launched it and it installed the new firmware.
I had made a backup before and I restored it after the installation of the new firmware. Everything was restored with exception of about 10 applications: they were still listed in the application manager but the programs were gone. It is impossible to cleanup the application manage, so I had to re-install everything.
Request: The Appplication Manager is missing a command allowing to remove a program entry if that program has been corrupted or destroyed by some stupid software like the firmware updater.

I don't understand why a firmware update necessarily removes all settings and application data. This doesn't make sense.

Nokia E71 Firmware 300.21.012

Do not update with this firmware 300.21.012. If u have 200.21.118, stick with it. I updated my E71 with 300.21.012 and have experienced many problems. The phone is now dead slow. It gets confused and constantly have to reboot the phone.
The common error I get is that the application is being used by another app and have to reboot the phone. It also freezes.

it could be because you had a different language pack installed and now you have a language pack native to your phone. although i would think that both Russian and Ukrainian would be in the same language pack.
i think yours should be euro 2

with these langauges. try to remove your battery for 5 min. reboot your phone and see if it makes any difference. if not, perhaps reinstalling the firmware or your last option is this:
the only way you can change a language pack is by going to nokia care. also make sure that the language you use plus the language you want are both in a specific language pack. nokia care will install the desired language pack for a small fee. there is few things to keep in mind, you will lose your installed language pack if you update a firmware and/or have to reformat your phone. in that case your language pack will default to whatever native pack was installed with the firmware meant for this product code.

How to update to Symbian 300.21.012 on E71-1

Hi there,
I currently have installed on my E71 Symbian 200.21.118 RM346 and because my telephony provider recomendation I have to update to 300.21.012.
If I use NSU page, it mention the lastest version is 300.21.012 which is ok, but when I tried to update the Symbian I received from NOKIA Software Updater the version 400.21.013.
How can I choose the 300.21.012 instead of 400.21.013?
Please provide step by step process.

Keyboard problems after 300.21.012 upgrade

I just upgraded to 300.21.012 on my E71. Now some of the keys on the keyboard do not work - specifically the symbol keys.
Is there a way to fix this?
Is there a way to roll back to an earlier version of the software?

You can try doing a hard reset in this case:
Turn off your phone. Press and hold down the 3, * and Call (green) keys. Turn on the device, and releae the keys only when you see the region selection screen.
This process will wipe out everything in the phone memory, so, taking a backup of your phone memory is advised.
You cannot roll back to an earlier version of firmware. Only updating is possible.

Unable to start Maps on E71 version 300.21.012

Hi all,
after having done the migration from Nokia pc suite to Ovi, upgraded the Map software and loaded french map, i cannot use map software.
I click on it, then it seems to launch, and after 2 seconds i come back to the menu.
Impossible to uninstall the Map software
Any idea about it?

For this to occur there is usually a disparity between Nokia Maps version on device and stored mapping data; I would suggest deleting E:\cities and .qf file from memory card, run Nokia Maps application once to define folder structure required and re-download your map of France.
If I remember it correctly v300.21.012 would have a Maps v2 pre-installed before you updated it, which used slightly different structure.
If all else fails provided that you have backed up data first, you could always "hard reset" E71 to return to maps version pre-installed in firmware v300

E71 post upgrade from 200.21... to 300.21.012

Hey guys , i have nokia E71 . It was working superb before upgrading to the new firmware , .. I am having few problems , mentioned below .:
1- I can not connect to the internet over wifi , it say " wireless line already active , close it and try again "
2- They wifi square on top right is already connected with a small lock shown on its side .
3- Wlan can not search my home network , however i try it .. I tried the one i have at my office but same problem throughout . It does not search , but wifi is connected . It says wlan not found
4- I have this message sign blinking on top right , although i have no messages in my inbox or any mail ...it says not enough space delete some memory etc...
5- i can not connect to the internet over GPRS either .
and finally it has started hanging ...
can upgrade gets as **bleep** as this ?

Buddy what you have to do is , backup you phone memory on your computer or where ever you find it safe !
you have to format your phone at least twice* , and format your memory card twice* ...it'll start working ...
it worked for me .. but all the softwares that came with cell phone formatted nothing you can do about it ... but yeah , you can use your cell again without any errors .... i would like you to make account with ovi and sync your contacts , calendar and notes ....

E71 300.21.012 upgrade issue with keypad Locking

I applied this upgrade (the *#0000# commnand confirmed it). After that I noticed a most annoying change - the phone either doesn't lock itself at all (when I set both keypad and phone autolock to none), or applies both the keypad lock and the phone autolock, even if I set the keypad lock to None and only the phone autolock to some period. Its cumbersome because one has to go through two unlocking procedures to unlock the phone...! first the "Now press function key" and then the secret lock code...
the bug is that the E71 ignores the "none" option in the "keypad lock" option whenever the phone autolock option is set too. Before the upgrade, it didn't.

i don't use the phone lock feature at all so i don't know if this behaviour was the same with the previous firmware version. i have tried it just now and yes you have to press the function key before entering the phone lock code. that is not the key lock function. i have set the key lock function to off. so it seems that pressing the function key before entering the phone lock code is the normal behaviour of the phone lock function. or at least it does it on my phone.
try and have both key lock and phone lock functions on and you will see the difference.

[Help] E71 300.21.012, SIP not working!

I've been using E71 for a while now, and I'm loving it especially the SIP and Internet call.
However, after the newest firmware installed, I'm not able to connect to my SIP server at all. I've checked many many times with different SIP server and different internet/intranet link. It will only say "NOT CONNECTED". Also when I look up in my SIP server log, nothing is found on connecting attempt from my E71. But when I use Xlite on my notebook with the same settings everything works. Are there anything else I need to setup additionally for this firmware?

I don't think there is a timeframe to it just yet. I havn't seen any movements of when the new firmware is going to come out anytime soon. I guess they are now busying to get the new model stable (N97, etc.)
However, I don't know whether the lastest firmware has been fixed and stamped with the new Firmware number or not? Anyone have reinstalled it yet? May be it fixed already.

Nokia E71 Firmware update 300.21.012 - problem wit...

Russian language got messed up - I get Ukranian language instead!!!! Some Russian simbols like Э and Ъ are missing. In the preious firmware everything was ok.
Please help to fix!

Press new message, Type appx 80 character then continue press new letter the system being slow and word appears after the 1-2 second..
