Horrible iMovie 10 timestamp bug

Ok, this is a good one. I've just noticed that iMovie 10 uses the file creation time of a clip as the clip timestamp, rather than the timestamp embedded in the file itself.
For example, I'm looking at a clip that was filmed on 1/4/2009 8:52am. I add the 'time/date' title to the clip, and it displays '3/30/2009 10:01pm'. Why? Because that is the date that the file was *created* on my local filesystem.
The previous version of iMovie did not have this issue. Anyone else notice this?

I switched back to iMovie 09 as well. This timestamp bug is unacceptable. But what is "even" worse for me is that Apple removed the ability to have Project and Event folders. Now every Project is in one big Library file, so there is no way to separate out types of projects (like Family, Vacations, etc.). This is a major issue and breakes my complete work-flow. I use folders heavily with my library that dates back 10+ years.
I am wondering that not many others seem to complain about missing folders. Maybe that is that reason that Apple thought. Hah - "nobody" is using this anway. Let's ditch this feature in iMovie 10 without any explaination or work-around. https://discussions.apple.com/message/23489726#23489726

  • UTA200-TM Firmware 1.01.08 timestamp bug

I am using T-Mobile @home service. I was given an UTA200-TM HiPort Adapter.
Firmware 1.01.08 has a major timestamp bug.
    Status: Current Time: Not Available
    I tried flashing fimware 1.01.04.
Status: Current Time: Came up with correct date and time.
    Firmware 1.01.04 timestamp works perfectly.
However, the UTA200-TM reflashes itself to 1.01.08. How aggravating!

    Tech Support:
The UTA200-TM hardware is not the problem.
The problem is that there is a major flaw in the time-stamp under firmware version 1.01.08:
    “Status-Router-Current Time: Not Available”.
    Under firmware version 1.01.04:
“Status-Router-Current Time: Correct Date and Time”.
    Further testing:
Kbhonline did some troubleshooting and he figured out the flaw even deeper.
When you assign a static address to the WAN port, the time service, for some reason does not operate.
Just for fun he set the UTA200-TM to act as a DHCP client, rebooted and, voila, it all came up, including the time.
He then started to make my changes, one change at a time and reboot.
When he changed the WAN setting from DHCP to Static, no time request went outbound.
All other services worked fine, just no correct time.

  • Problem With iMovie Theme - Possible Bug?

I'm trying to use the "lower third" element from the white reflection theme in my movie. The problem is that I would like to apply it to the middle of a clip.
I edit the clip but cutting out about 15 seconds off the front, then try and add the theme element. iMovie starts the theme element at the very front of the clip, which I've cut out.
I've tried splitting the video clip as well, same problem.
Anyone else running into this? Seems like a bug in iMovie.
    Mike

indeed, I can recreate your observation:
when you split a clip in a project (part I/II) .. and apply part II to a theme, it is not only part II but the whole clip (starting with part I) which gets applied to....
that's not logical in terms of user interface, nor convenient.. ok, somekind of 'bug' ...
follow Bengt's advice, to create a real, seperate, individual, non-connected, solo clip... ;))

  • Timestamp bug ?

    Hi,
We recently installed a DB onto a Windows machine running 10.2. The database and client app were previously running fine on Solaris with 10.1 for last several months.
We have a query that selects columns and does a "order by" on a timestamp column. Even if there are only a few (< 300) rows returned the query takes hours(?) to finish. If i remove the "order by" the query runs great and if I order by a different column it also runs great. By great, i mean a second or two.
Also, if I change my select to be
select cast(timecol as date) ..... order by 1
, it runs quickly again... except that I just lost my milliseconds, of course!
So, the timestamp type is looking pretty suspicious.
This query worked fine on the old system for months. And similar queries on that table, but again without the "order by" clause, run great on the new install.
So, I'm really suspecting the timestamp "order by" being some sort of problem on Windows/10.2
Anyone see this kind of problem before?
    Thanks in advance.

There is some bug with timestamp in 10.2.0.1, try to upgrade to 10.2.0.2 patchset.
    Nicolas.

  • IMovie 09 many Bugs

    1) Program cuts the audio track of time. I created the audio file length 2:04:12 minutes, iMovie this track down to 1:25:00 minutes.
    2) I've created in Photoshop frame with black edges and alfachannel, in order to remove the rough edges. In this case, iMovie 09 ignores transitions between video clips.

Are you using the music as background for your movie? iMovie will stop the audio at the end of the movie, even if the music track is longer. So if your movie is 1:25:00 long, then your music will only play for that duration. Add more footage and the track will play out longer.
I don't really understand the second question. Sorry.

  • LR CC 2015 batch editing timestamp bug

I'm running LR CC 2015 on a 27" retina iMac and when I try to batch edit timestamps, it only updates the timestamp of the first photo selected. Here the steps to reproduce:
    1) Select 2 or more photos
    2) Under metadata click the button to the right of Capture Time
    3) In the Edit Capture Time dialog box, select the radio "Shift by set number of hours (time zone adjust)"
    4) Click the drop down in the right side of the New Time box and select -19 hours as the time offset.
    5) Click change
    Expected behavior:
All the photos selected in step 1 should have their timestamps by -19 hours
    Actual behavior:
Only the first photo of the set selected in step 1 has its timestamp adjusted.

    Turn AutoSync on.

  • IMovie 6 Problems/Bugs - Frustration!

I have used iMovie for quite some time but this recent iMovie v6.0.2 has been increbidlyI have used iMovie for quite some time (at home) but this recent iMovie v6.0.2 has been incredibly disappointing. Problems to date:
    - Adding simple transitions has become a nightmare. I often experience black frames (appears as a “Blip” when viewing) at the end of cross dissolve transitions. Usually when they are preceded with a still photo using the Ken Burns effect. Only fix is to start deleting and adding the content again hoping they will not appear.
    - Still images appear worse then previous versions. The still images look very pixilated and fuzzy. Another strange thing for a split second before the transition starts they appear clear and crisp. So if I have a bunch of stills with transitions in between you get an odd visual of (pic) pixilated – clear – transition – clear – (pic) pixilated – clear – transition – etc. Again, the clear image before and after a transition only lasts a brief second.
    - iMovie will occasionally just crash and disappear while I’m working on a project.
Anyone have any suggestions? I’m disappointed because I got my company to buy a Mac for video editing but with these issues my 5 minute video took hours to create. I liked to get this fixed to redeem the Mac’s reputation around here. It’s a MacBook Pro 17” (w/ OS X v10.4.7) and a pretty clean system no strange add-ons or anything. Thanks, for any help.
    disappointing.

    GOOD LUCK!
I'm having the ...... same problems.... I AM DEAD IN THE WATER!!!!!!
Cant go back to imovie5. I've neve had so many problems with iMovie.
I use it to make presentations for the company I work for. But now I am dead in the water.... can't do anything. It took almost 3 hours to get out a 10 minute DVD.
iMoive6 kept crashing, and crashing, and crashing. Then the photos would get corrupted and I would have to start over.
I tried deleting preferences, but that didn't help at all.

  • IMovie 10 update bug: HELP!!!

I updated to OS MAVERICKS and now my new iMovie 10 won't recognise any of my past Events or iMovie project (v.9).
When I try to import the project, it shows up in the list, but not as an clicable option.
    Why, o why...

I figured out how this happened and I've now repeated it on my supposedly incompatible-with-iMovie-10.0 iMac -- instead of using the Mac App Store app to update iMovie let Notification Center notify you of the outstanding update and okay the update to proceed from the Notification Center alert instead of the App Store. That seems to bypass the check for graphics card compatibility and updates you to iMovie 10.0 with no issues (it saves your old iMovie 9.0.x in a folder automatically). It doesn't show up as installing in the App Store while it's happening, but once it's finished the App Store knows about it and removes the outstanding update from it's list (and the red badge from the App Store icon in the Dock).
Surprisingly iMovie 10 opens fine on my iMac too, I haven't tried to edit any movies yet, but it doesn't seem to object to my graphics card when I launch it. Weird, but at least it's working now.

  • Adjusting date and time in Elements Organizer

It looks like there are a few different threads on this topic.  I posted something yesterday that explained how I used a bash script to automatically parse through the .mov files in my iMovie Events folder and set the "Last Modified" date according to the file name (which had the date in it).  It saved me a lot of time since I had >500 clips to set to the proper time.  The post might be useful to others:

  • IPHOTO QT STILLS VS iMOVIE KB STILLS

If a slide show is preparred in iPhoto using KB effect to reduce jaggies, then the slide show is exported as a QT movie, then imported into iMovie, then iMovie dragged into iDVD to get the best quality-how will the stills compare to importing the stills directly into iMovie and applying the KB effect, then dragging the iMovie into iDVD?
Thank you in advance for your time,
    Art

    All,
Karl has really cleared some of my fog around this issue with this great post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2105598&#2105598
We may have to burn a DVD or two to see what the stills actually look like when they are played back on the TV, but the iMovie still rendering "bug" he identifies is the root cause of "jaggies" that become included in iMovie stills and eventually find their way to iDVD.
    Net:
    (1) Photo stills from iPhoto (with or without a KB effect, slideshow or not) will never look very good when iMovie plays them back because iMovie is an editor tool first and a playback tool second (it refuses to show all the still quality during playback no matter what our preferences indicate). This was one of the main things misleading me...
    (2) Therefore, stills will look better viewed on a TV (from a DVD or tape) than they do in iMovie.
    (3) This will only be true, however, if we always prevent iMovie from rendering the stills on the way through the iDVD encoding process to the TV.
    (4) Poor iMovie still rendering is the "bug" Karl describes and the workarounds to avoid it are to either: (a) import all stills with a KB effect (they become movies and iMovie won't attempt to render them), or, (b) if you have stills that do not have the KB effect, then the Share --> iDVD command needs to be bypassed altogether by dragging the iMovie project name in the title bar right into the iDVD window (to do this I found that I had to hold down the mouse button momentarily until the title icon darkened before I began to drag).
Now I'll need to do some tests...
    Great post Karl!
    Cheers,
    Al

  • How to revert back to iMovie 9 after reinstalling Mavericks?

    Good Day All,
I recently had to reinstall my OS (OSX Mavericks) for my MacBook Pro 13-inch Mid 2012 Model. Prior to this, I had iMovie 10 (yuck), AS WELL AS the old iMovie, which had remained behind in my applications folder (iMovie 9).
Before I reinstalled the OS, I made sure to copy the iMovie 9.0.9 application to my hard drive, and once a clean OS was installed, I made sure to drag iMovie 9.0.9 back to my applications folder and run it, however I am met with an error:
iMovie 9.0.9 has failed to start (not the exact words I cannot remember, as now whenever I launch it the icon pops up in my dock and than a split second later disappears)
Is there anyway I can get iMovie 9.0.9 back after a clean OS install?
I already downloaded this: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1574 (the iMovie 9.0.9 update), however it fails to work, as the only iMovie I have on my machine is the horrible iMovie 10, and it required an older iMovie to update too.
Any help at all will be very appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Automator, iMovie and Applescript problem

    Hi,
I'm trying to convert a .mov file to .mp4 using Visualhub and automator, but a step in my automator file uses an applescript step that just causes the automator flow to stop and the end and not gon one with the rest of the actions.
    More specifically:-
    1. I use my HD camera to film something.
    2. Connect the camera to my mac.
    3. Import the video using iMovie.
    4. My Automator actions ask me to confirm that iMovie has finished the import
    5. Then Ask for finder items, which is get the newly imported .mov into VisualHub
    6. Run the problematic Applescript:-
    on run {input, parameters}
--we need to unset the default timeout length of two minutes, we'll make it 45
    with timeout of (45 * 60) seconds
tell application "VisualHub" to set VisualHub to load script (scripts path of main bundle & "/automation.scpt" as POSIX file)
    tell VisualHub
    LoadSettings("/Volumes/MyBook/hd.cam.settings.vhub")
    --SetSaveLocation("YOURHARDDRIVE:Users:YOURNAME:Desktop:iphonemovies:temp")
    AddFiles(input)
    StartConversion()
    QuitApp()
    end tell
    end timeout
    return input
    --delay 15
    end run
Which I've used from this site (http://professafresh.wordpress.com/2007/10/18/fun-with-automator/) and just stopped the two lines with a comment marker.
What is supposed to happen after that is that
    7. Automator asks to confirm that VisualHub has finished.
    8. VisualHub quits
    9. Finder finds the .mov that was created when the film was imported
    10. Finder then moves the item to the trash.
So there is something going on with the applescript that causes the process to stop after the conversion.
    Some points:-
    1. I have used the VisualHub import and convert script step but the default settings are not what I'm after as I want the video resized to 960x540.
    2. iMovie recognizes and keeps all the head info as long as the file name is the same. So if you skip over the thumbnail in iMovie the timestamp changes to reflect the time that the video was taken. If you convert the .mov to .mp4 the info is retained but with a much smaller video size.
I've tried to give as much info as possible, sorry if it's too much.
    Regards,

iMoive and iPhoto are not free apps. If you purchased them on your iPhone they should available to download again on your new iPhone.

You can do that all in iMovie
Select 300 photos set the length to 3:15 - Import
Select all in the timeline. Pick your transition. Set it to .29. Apply.

  • IMovie 09 doesn't import my Flip Mino HD video in native resolution

My Flip Mino HD records video at 1280x720 resolution. I can confirm this by saving a clip directly to my Mac and looking at its settings in Quicktime. However, when I import into iMovie 09 and try to export the clip, the resolution is only 960x540. What's going on Apple? I even went into Preferences and selected Video and told Import 1080i video to import in full resolution. But no go. Am I missing a setting here or does iMovie have a bug in it?

iMovie does import your video in it's native format. It does not alter it. You have to use QuickTime export to achieve any size over 960x540. As long as your video is progressive 720p (which I believe your Flip is) there should be no issues (there is an issue with Interlaced source). Use Share--> Export using Quicktime and use a high quality codec like h.264 or AIC and set your size to 720.
