Horrible mistake-mini cd stuck in slot drive

Unfortunately I was unaware that mini discs are NOT to be loaded into slot drives prior to doing this. Now it is stuck and won't eject. Is there anything I can do? Please help!

Hold it with the slot facing down. Gently shake the computer to get the disc into the slot. You can use a 3x5 card (or other heavy stock) to help guide it. When you can see it, grasp it with needle nose pliers or tweezers.

i have put a mini cd into the slot drive and cannot get it out. how would i get it out?

Tilt the MBP up, slot facing down and see if the cd slides out.
You may have to take the computer to the Apple store to have it removed.

  • Mini CD stuck in my drive!

I put a mini-cd inside my optical drive not knowing my drive didn't support these cds and now I can't get it out. Any tips?

I did this once. Never again.
I was able to get it out by put something sticky on a business card. Probably scotch tape. I slid the card in so that the sticky stuff was above the stuck disk. Then I inserted something that was rigid and pushed down on the business card. Obviously one has to be careful when sticking foreign objects into the CD/DVD slot.
After getting the biz card stuck to the disk, I crossed my fingers, told the Mac to eject the disk and pulled gently on the business card.
Might not have gotten it out on the first attempt, but it ultimately worked.

  • Mini-CD stuck in DVD drive - I'm an idiot.

I put one of those 1/2 size mini-CD's into my drive. yeah. It's stuck and the computer can't even see it or feel it apparently. It's not grabbing onto anything so it can't eject it. What do I do?!?!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, TrishEB.
    1. Have you tried restarting the PowerBook and then keep the trackpad button pressed?
    2. Alternatively, you can try restarting and then keep the following keys pressed: apple-alt-O-F
When you see a white screen with some black text, type: eject-cd
    and then press return.
    3. Another option is to use a pair of precision tweezers and very gently use it to try and grab the edge of the CD so that you can pull it out. There may be a chance that the CD has not gone too far into the drive, thus enabling you to reach it with the tweezers.
    4. If you are feeling even more adventurous, and none of the above work, you might consider using a very thin strip of card/paper with a little piece of double-sided tape on one side.
    5. Finally, if all the above fails, take it to an Apple Store or an Apple Authorised Service Provider.

  • CD stuck in slot drive - help!

    Hi,
My husband had an unfortunate tea / Macbook interface a couple of weeks ago.  He's cleaned the keys and whatever, and all is working well.  I loaded a CD into the slot drive last night.  It was a bit 'stiff', but then accepted the CD ok.  The only problem is it now won't eject.  The disk is mounted and shows in iTunes, it makes the usual ejecting noises, but the CD isn't actually moving at all.  I'm guessing that some of that nice, sugary tea has made its way in there and is making the whole thing sticky, but how can I overcome this?
    Yours hopefully ,
    Julie

Shutdown your Mac, restart it keeping the EJECT Key on your keyboard pressed until it ejects

  • Mini cd stuck inside the drive

    Hi,
    New MBP, 6 months old.
Accidentally inserted a mini cd inside the drive. Cannt get it out now. Any help will do.
    Thanks

You might try some tape folded around a thin piece of card board and see if you can pull it out.  Position the MBP where gravity is your ally.
    Ciao.

  • DVD Stuck in slot drive, doesn't show on desktop or in Disk Utility

I downloaded the 10.5.3 combo update on my Power Mac and burned a disk image of the file to a DVD to update my iMac which suffers from the Airport problem and is unable to successfully download anything before connection drops.
I successfully updated the iMac to 10.5.3 but upon restart, the DVD is still in the slot, and doesn't show on the desktop nor in DU.
I tried the eject button, but nothing. I tried restarting and holding down the mouse button, but no luck.
How do I get the disk out?

    Thanks for replying, xnav.
Unfortunately I have tried these with no luck. The disk does not show up in disk utility, it's like it doesn't even exist, yet it remains there in the drive making it impossible to insert any disk.
I don't know what to do at this point... take it to the shop I guess!

  • Mac Mini cd stuck in drive

I've had aMac Mini for less than a week and I've got an audio cd stuck in the superdrive. When I first inserted it, the mac spat it out, and I had to re-inserted it. It's now well and truly stuck. I've checked out the excellent forums here, and elsewhere, and tried all of the methods I could find, including terminal commands.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh1750.html
None of these work. It sounds like the drive is continually trying to search for the disc. On re-boot the (audio) CD is briefly identified, but disappears when I try to eject. In the disk utility program the eject button is 'greyed-out'. It seems that the computer doesn't think there is a disc present, I know there is (Snow Patrol - Final Straw).
    thanks,
    Chris

Stuck discs, along with loading and unloading problems are an inevitable risk when using the sort of slot-loading drives found on the mini, iMacs and Mac laptops, but given the sheer number of these systems out there, it's not really a greatly common problem.
The business card twisted to stop the disc spinning is a good trick for those situations where the Mac doesn't recognise the disc because it forces the system into an eject, but in a situation where the disc is stuck in the drive due to fouling the casing, it doesn't help of course - hence the advice to try and guide the disc out. It must be said that sometimes the only solution is to remove the casing!
In the past, this issue has most commonly been caused by discs which are slightly thicker than standard, or a casing that has not been correctly refitted after opening the system up for something like a RAM upgrade.

  • Use of CD3 or Mini-CD's in a vertical slot driver on HP 520PC

I am needing to install some software into my computer and the manufacturer sent me a mini-CD.   Can I use it as is in my slot drive, or will it disappear inside the HP 520PC thus requiring professional assistance to remove it?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I wouldn't recommend trying to use a mini-CD in a slot load style CD/DVD drive. The most likely outcome is that the CD and/or CD/DVD drive will be damaged.

  • Can slot drive load mini-CD (80mm)?

I'm looking forward to get my new iMac soon. But I have loads of old mini CDs with 80mm diameter, and would like to know if they will work with the slot drive on iMac.
I've heard from somewhere that it will not work, but from my previous experience with some old CRT iMac with slot drive, as long as the disk is not irregular (i.e. still circular not those rectangular business card type), the old slot drive will take the disk in and read just like normal CD. Has any one tried to use those disks and encountered any problem with the new slot drive?
    Thanks in advance!

Found the following at Apple Support:
"Warning: Inserting a nonstandard-sized or -shaped disc into a drive that is not designed to accommodate it may damage the drive. Some slot-loading drives may be able to accomodate 80 mm round discs, but their use is not supported and any damage caused will not be covered under your Apple warranty or applicable extended service contract."
Since your iMac is brand new, I'd advise extreme caution proceeding against Apple's advice.

  • Mini dvd stuck in drive - how do I eject it?

I inserted a mini DVD into the dvd drive.  The dvd player doesn't show that anything is in there and therefore won't eject it.  Please help.

I found another discussion on this same topic and already resolved the issue.

  • Mid 2010 Mac Mini slot drive will not accept disks.

    Problem:
Tried playing a new commercial DVD but all I got was the rainbow pinwheel, I tried to eject the disk which took maybe 2 minutes but did happen.  I tried inserting disk again into slot drive and it just won't go in and appears to hit something about halfway in, I assume it's the drive spindle that maybe hasn't retracted properly on the last eject.
    I have;
successfully played this DVD in this drive the day before,
since played this DVD in another player,
tried other DVD's and CD's since the problem arose and none will go in.
shut down and powered up, reset the SMC, NVRAM and PRAM nothing changes for the slot drive.
As this machine is the heart of my Media Centre it's a real problem.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks in antici-pation,
    John

Thanks, I had read that discussion but must have missed the part about downloading the "ForcEject" tool so I will try that in the morning although I know there is nothing in the drive but maybe it'll reset the drive load/eject sequence.

  • Mini Disc stuck in CD player & printing question

I have a mini disc stuck in the cd player. I've pushed eject multiple times, but I don't think that it reads that it is in there. Is there any other way to get it out?
Also, how do you "print selection" like on PCs?

Mini DVDs _are not compatible_ with slot-loading optical drives like the one in the MPB. Some users have reported success in extracting mini DVDs from the optical drive by inserting a business card with double-stick tape at the end, then pressing the eject key, and carefully pulling the disc out. Else, you may need to visit an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for repairs. These will not be covered under warranty.
Print selection is application-dependent. Some apps (e.g. Microsoft Word) support that feature (there's an option in the print dialog box), others do not.
You can take a screenshot of part of the screen (Command-Shift-4) and print that.

  • HT2285 How to remove a mini-cd from a slot-loading superdrive (on ibook intel)

I have a mini cd stuck in the slot loading drive on my ibook (i have curious children;-).
Are there any tricks to removing foreign objects like this?
    Thank you.

    Hello,
You really only have two options.
Take the unit apart yourself or you take it to a repair shop to do it for you.
If you wish to attempt it yourself, you can use the iFixit guide to help you.
It wont eject, as the leaver which pulls the disk out of the drive, wont move further enough to eject the disk.
So the the only way is to take to top off the drive and then you can simply remove it out.
    Best of luck

  • Help! How can I take out the mini-disc stuck in mac?

Help! How can I take out the mini-disc stuck in mac?
I insert it into the mac, but the OS cannot load the disc and the disc cannot be ejected even i pressed the "eject" button.

This happened to a family members macbookpro. A mini-cd inserted, couldn't be mounted or ejected by the drive.
I cut a rectangle from a cereal box about two inches wide and 6 inches long. Abour an inch and half from one end in the middle I cut a notch and bent it down a little.

I then inserted it slowly into the drive notch down and slowly pulled out. I did this few times and caught the mimi-cd and removed it. The drive has worked flawlessly for several years
A few days after this happened I was in BestBuy and an Apple rep was there displaying new Apple products. I asked him about it and he said they have a tool that ***** it out.
