Horrible Noise from PB17 with external units drawing power from FW.

With external boxes that draw power from the firewire bus (Audio interfaces/SSL Duende etc.),
my powerbook makes a terrible sort of digital whine.
(actually it sounds a bit like cassette based program loading on old 8-bit computers (e.g. ZX Spectrum)).
The noise is coming from under the rear left of the keyboard.
I'm convinced it's something to do with power draw as it only happens with boxes that take their power from FW.
Sorry if this is a repeat question. I did a really long search, but only got a couple of allusions to this.

there is a fan under rear left of the keyboard - maybe fan is worn out and makes noise when spinning at higher speed.

iPad requires Wifi (or 3G /LTE) to connect to the Internet. You cannot connect a USB modem to the iPad.
You can create your own WiFi hotspot through your computer for your iPad to connect to, if your computer supports this functionality. All Wifi Macs and many Wifi PCs do. Check your computer manual for how to do it.

Possible to draw power from iPhone battery?

Is it possible to draw power from the iPhone battery in order to power an external device? If so, how does one go about doing it?

Which rail(s) does XP CPU draw power from on KT3 Ultra2

I wonder if someone can just clarify the following point for me please. My understanding is that on the KT3 Ultra 2, the processor draws power from the 3.3 & (or) 5v rails and not the 12v rails. Is this correct?

My Kill-A-Watt meter indicates that my 85W MagSafe adapter draws about one watt when it's plugged into the wall but not powering anything. The meter doesn't measure fractional watts, so that's probably rounded up from a fraction.
When my 15" MBP is connected to the adapter but asleep, about two watts are drawn -- somewhat less than a small incandescent night-light.

No new version from Open With External Editor?

Is there a way to not create a new version every time I use "Open with External Editor"?
If I want to open an image in PS, just opening it creates a new version in Aperture, even if I don't make any adjustments to the image in PS.
I've deselected "Create new versions when making adjustments" in the preferences.

Not sure this will help, but I noticed this problem as well a while ago, but have since developed a work around...
All my files start off as RAW. When I use "Open in External Editor", Aperture generates a new version with a bulls eye target (this is my C2 version). If manipulate this image in CS and save it when I close, it remains as a bullseye target (look at the lower right corner in full screen). If I reopen this specific image, no new file will be generated. If I manipulate it in Aperture, a new file will be generated (but without the bullseye target) and if I then use "Open in External Editor" another new file will be generated.
I have never checked to see what happens with a primary PSD file imported. And I am sure the meaning the bullseye target is in the manual someplace.
So my workflow is RAW file-->all my desired aperture adjustments-->open in external editor for final clean up and modification. I end up with my original RAW file (Aperture modified and restorable to original by removing all selections) and one CS2 file. If I want several version off of my first CS2 file, I duplicate version of the CS2 file, and the open the bullseyed version NOT the new duplicate version image.

Insert data from table1 with PK to remove duplicates from table2 without PK

There will probably be a simple solution to my issue although it is currently evading me. I have a table that contains 14 million rows. There are many duplicates within this table that I need to remove. I was hoping an old trick I used in MS Access would
help, this solution was to create an identical table and add a PK on the filed I wanted to remove the duplicates from. Then just copy+paste append from one table to the other and Access would just drop the rows that were duplicated. Very simple yet worked
quickly and effectively. Is there a quick way to do this in MS SQL as everything i've tried so far has failed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

MM-SUS Scenario - BP Creation from MM with external number

Hi Gurus,
We are implementing MM-SUS scenario on landscape involving ECC 6.0 EHP5 and SRM 7.0 EHP1.
In connection with Vendor transfer from ECC to SUS, We want to achieve that ECC vendor and SUS business partner (BP) have the same number (I E: vendor 300000 in ECC has BP 300000 in SUS)
But in the tests we performed sending vendors executing on ECC tx BD14 (via PI system), SUS ever creates Business Partners with numbers from internal range in spite of we have available external number range.
Can anyone tell me if is possible or SUS is able in standard way, receive a vendor xml message and perform BP creation with the same number (XML field <PartnerID>) sended from ECC.
I appreciate any help of yours. Thanks in advance.

Starting from scratch with external drive

I've just clean installed Snow Leopard after too much trouble with Lion, I've got an external drive with a load of songs which I'd like to use with iTunes but I don't want these copied to my internal drive - I'm happy to have the external drive connected for iTunes use - I've changed the iTunes media folder to the one on my external drive but it hasn't recognised the songs - what else do I need to do without ending up with duplicates of every song?.... Basically I'd simply like to use the external drive like a huge iPod!

I'm not sure what I'm doing here. I thought I did what you suggested and I tried to read that article but ...
What I have:
* Laptop with iTunes 9.0.3 running OS X 10.4.11 that has not had any prior music or other iTunes content.
* An external HD with a copy of the music from my desktop (160 GB). My desktop is also running iTunes 9 and OS X 190.4.11.
On the HD there is a folder "iTunes." That folder contains:
"Album Artwork" folder,
"Automatically Add to iTunes" folder,
"iTunes Library" file,
"iTunes Library Extras.itdb" file,
"iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file,
"iTunes Library.xml" file
"itunes music" folder,
"iTunes Music Library.xml" file,
"Previous iTunes Libraries" folder,
"Temp File.tmp" file
What I did:
* Plugged in the external so it shows up in my finder
* Launched iTunes and working through the setup was asked some sort of question like "do you want to copy files now or do it yourself later?" I clicked I'd do it myself.
* Went to iTunes / Preferences / Advanced and changed the iTunes Media folder location. It now shows "/volumes/'name of External HD'/iTunes" The "keep iTunes Media folder organized" box is checked and so is the "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" box. I hit OK.
* Went to iTunes / File / Library / Organize Library ... and I clicked the "Consolidate files" box but not the "Upgrade to iTunes Media organization" box.
* now in iTunes I have nothing in "Music" -- a screen telling me songs and videos I add ... and there are none of my folders or playlists.
I bet I'm one click from blast off but no idea what that step might be.
Any ideas?

Problem with external HD when waking from sleep

I have just bought a formac oxygen mini 80G external HD, i am using firewire to connect to my iBook. Problem is that pretty much everytime I wake from sleep the warning dialog appears saying that I didn't eject the drive properly and some data may be lost. Any ideas?

The behavior you describe implies that your FireWire drive is not recognizing Mac OS X power management commands: when the Mac enters sleep, the drive may actually be powering-off.
If a FireWire drive is powered off or disconnected without first being Ejected, you would also see that message. In some cases, that can result in the partition map of the FireWire drive becoming corrupted, requiring that one use data recovery tools or services — such as discussed in my "Data Recovery" FAQ — to recover the data on the drive.
1. Check with Formac to see if there is a firmware upgrade for your FireWire drive.
2. In combinations, try a different FireWire cable and a different FireWire port on your Mac.

Restoring from iTunes backup is a lot faster.
To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

T420 will not draw power from battery

I received my T420 today. The power manager bar at the bottom of the screen shows that there is no battery remaining with a red X over the bar. The power manager indicates "Error Detected". I tried swapping out the battery from another T420 in the office that worked fine on the other computer. I receive the same error message. When I unplug AC power, the computer shortly dies.
Any idea what the problem is and how to fix it?

Try uninstalling Power Manager, Power Management driver then reboot then install power management driver then Power manager back and see if it helps.

MacBook Pro won't stay awake with external display AND power connected

I've been using my MacBook Pro with an external 23" Apple display for several months, always with the lid closed and with no problems. Suddenly, I can no longer keep the MacBook awake when its lid is closed. *The AC power IS connected.* I plug in the display, close the lid, wake the system with my external keyboard, but then it will quickly go to sleep again after a few seconds. No matter what I've tried I get the same behavior.
Perhaps coincidence, perhaps not, I installed the Leopard graphics update a few weeks ago. Could this be a cause?

Apple did actually acknowledge this as a known issue with people running 10.5.2 with the graphics update, and are investigating it. There's some further discussion at this thread:

Anyway, what worked for me was powering down, connecting my external display, keyboard, etc., powering up, and immediately closing the lid. It seems to behave better now, though I haven't rebooted since, although I have switched back and forth between running with the external display, and running without it, without any problems.

I have to open excel file and manulay change the format of the date to make it shows the correct date, other way, it alutomatic shows 00:00:00 when i first open the file. How can i make the date automatic shows from the file i generated in excel?

No video from OSMF with any version of AIR from 14 through 17 - where is bugbase nowadays?

Hi,
I am investigating an issue with Samsung S5 and our established video player that has been running live for a couple of years now.
When run on Samsung S5 (not sure what others, but this is the one we discovered it on), video playback fails entirely, 100%, without any explanation or error.
EG: If I create the minimal video playback app as per the below (based on OSMF2), the video utterly fails to display in any way shape manner or form.
Two things on this;
1. I tried logging a bug, but the bugbase has moved _again_ so where can I go to log the bug?
2. Does anybody have any ideas as to the potential cause and (better) any potential resolution?
