Horrible site speed

can someone esplain why the site is so slow? there are times its ok, then other times i cannot get posts to load.
software?
im sitting on a t1, so bandwidth is not the issue.
one post will load, next wont.  its very random.
is this perhaps the worst forum software ever? never have this issue with vbulliten, php, ect.  just vzw pages.
its been ongoing ever since ive started viewing the pages, diff computers, logged in logged out ect.

Hi mdram4x4,
I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing slowness with the site.  I will pass your information on, but in the meantime, you could try a couple of things.  Trying clearing your cache.  If you use add-ons in Firefox, you may want to try Adblock Plus to block the ads from loading. Also, you can try turning off the Twitter stream.  To do that, you can go to My Settings>Social Connect.
Hope this helps,
Jennifer

• Horrible internet speed and direct tv not working properly

I am having a horrible experience with verizon.
I have had issues setting up appointment times, technicians showing up at wrong times, technicians showing up but not letting us know problems were "fixed", long phone calls with no result and now there is no other way to contact verizon other than calling again which i refuse to do.
we had switched to verizon through a direct tv bundle but our connection appears to be too slow for the tv to work properly. verizon apparently 'fixed' the problem but when i told them it was still too slow according to direct tv, they agreed that the internet needs an upgrade.  so why was i given this particular bundle to begin with?  shouldn't verizon know what speed works with direct tv?  and why do i now have to pay more for an upgrade when i was quoted a price for my bundle (which is why we switched).  is this just another way to make us switch over??  and then trick us into paying more money?
I fully believe i should not be charged for something i was not told about to begin with.
so now i sit and wait for my faster speed internet.  no technician needs to come out to my house this time supposedly however it will not be ready for another 5 days.  when i asked the woman on the phone why i had to wait 5 days if no technician was coming she had no answer.
i will wait and see how it goes, but i am extremely frustrated with every aspect of verizon and am unfortunately fully regretting making the switch.

Hi misskwispie,
Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. Before the agent can begin assisting you, they will need to collect further information from you. Please go to your profile page for the forum and look at the top of the middle column where you will find an area titled "My Support Cases". You can reach your profile page by clicking on your name beside your post, or at the top left of this page underneath the title of the board.
Under "My Support Cases" you will find a link to the private board where you and the agent may exchange information. The title of your post is the link. This should be checked on a frequent basis, as the agent may be waiting for information from you before they can proceed with any actions. • Site Speed Improvements

To All:
I am looking for ways to improve my website loading speed. I have several albums on the site (www.lens-perspective.com) and I am wondering...
1.) if the site would load faster if limited my albums to 10-15 pictures.
2.) Should I optimize the pictures for the web myself instead of letting iWeb do it?
2.) Also, instead of using the ALBUM Template page in iWeb, am I better of using a blank page and placing one picture on it for each album and then hyperlinking to each album from that page?
3.) Lastly, there should be 2 pictures on my "About Me" page and they don't seem to load after my site is uploaded. Do you think that this is a browser issue? I host the site at GO Daddy and upload it using Fetch.
Any other "speed" recommendations are welcome.
Thank you,
Randy

1. Yes. Large albums take much longiing to load and keeping the albums under 15 images is a good idea.
2. Probably not worth the time and effort. Your current files average about 100 KB's (good size for Web use). 15 on a page would be 1.5 MB's that needs to download.
3. I see three images on the About Me page. One large and two smaller (lower part of the page).

• Absolutely HORRIBLE write speeds

I have the original Xserve Raid with 14 drives connected through Apple's dual fibre channel card. The card sits in slot 4 on my G5 Dual 2.0 with 4gb of ram running 10.4.8. I used the drive for the first time in several months yesterday and found I couldn't capture SD video. Using the Black Magic Speed Test utility I found a read of 185.7 and a write speed of only 45.4!
After removing then re-making the raid from it's component channels in Disc Utility (using striping and 32k block size) and finding no difference in the specs, I re-initialized the drives at Raid 5. After 15 hours, still the same anemic write speed. Any suggestions?

Hi Jim ... I have the exact same set up and was happily editing uncompressed HD for two years and now my Xserve is giving me extremely poor write speeds (65 to 100 MB/sec) and read speeds that vary between 100 and 230 MB/sec. I have been talking to Apple for four days now (still under applecare) and they can't seem to figure out what is going on. I ran a diagnostic test they sent me and they say there are no reported log files showing anomolies with the fiber card or channels. Did you ever solve your problem and if so ... how?

• Administration web-site speed

Hello Community,
I have a big problem while using Administration-Websites pf iplanet enterprise 6.
in the internal LAN the application and administrator Website loading very slow (gifs, jpgs ando so on) at external (using dial-in connection to ISP) the speed is super. What is it ? the installation of iPlanet is standard.
I can't work with a slow working administration website.
Has anyone a idea ?

Hi,
It will not be problem with iWS. So, I would request you to check local intarnet setup. And also check whether any "ip classing"(i.e:same ip address is used by some other machine) there in intarnet setup.
If its possible send me an last 50 lines of error, access log file & ifconfig -a(for UNIX Version) output for further analysis.
Thanks,
Daks.

• Horrible Internet speed

So basicly, yesterday day I was getting around 2MB solid according to speedtest.net
After about a few hours within the day I noticed that YouTube videos where now taking 20 minutes to even stream 1 minute worth of content.
As you can see my speed is somehow poor but yet my line quality is outstanding according to these tests. I even tested it on the desktop computer to see if the wireless wasn't being affected, sadly the tests on the computer showed the same results, at the moment i'm rather disappointed in this and that I just want my normal speed back, i've checked the hub manager and I appear to be the only person connected and it is STILL at 30Kb/s and I am starting to loose myself over this. Could anyone help me with this problem? I really want my old speed back.

I cannot get into my hub manager, its continously throwing me out when I attempt to log into it. I tried default passwords and they didn't work either. I posted the tests from the bt one though.
Download speed achieved during the test was - 313 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speed is 50-500 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :448 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 350 Kbps
Plus his instructions are not clear. Also a screenshot as to what I am seeing on the main page.

• Horrible Transfer Speeds

Hi Guys,
I own a NMH405 and the speeds I get are horrendous, transferring to/from the device I get on average 2mbps, I have even tried using teracopy and get the same speeds. I can also only stream movie at a time with it sometimes stuttering.
Both the device and my computer are connected via cables to a Belkin F7D2301 gigabyte/wireless-n router. I've also used an old d-link router and got the same speeds and I'm using Windows 7. The transfer speeds to my roommate’s computer are fine so there's nothing wrong with the network.
The only thing I have changed on the Media Hub is a firmware upgrade when I first plugged it in. Have I not set something up right on the device or something? Can someone help me with this please because it's driving me insane and I'm pretty keen to boot it out the window.
Thanks in advance .

troz,
First off, I presume you mean MB/s as opposed to Mb/s.  Even so, yes, your speeds are low.
I get about the same performance as the article with my NMH, so your problem is either a defective unit, slow hard disk (in your NMH) or some other bottle neck either in your network or PC.
Not sure if you said that you have tried connecting your NMH to other comptuers to see if anything changes.  Also, try connecting it just through your gigabit switch.
Another thing you can do to rule out the PC as being the bottleneck is to create a RAM drive in your PC (google it to see how to set up if you don't know how).  Transferring files from the RAM drive is much much faster than off your PC HD and associated controller.  If your transfer speeds go up noticeably when doing this, then it's your PC that's the bottleneck as opposed to the NMH.
Lastly, I would recommend calling Linksys/Cisco tech support and see if they have any other ideas.  I have called them in the past regarding a separate issue and found them quite helpful.
Good luck.

• Horrible Connection Speeds in Evening

We pay for the advanced high speed internet service in our area. It is advertised at 1.5 to 3 Mbps. Daytime speeds are reasonable: from 1.5 to 2.75 Mbps.
At NIGHT though, we are getting very POOR performance at .50 Mbps or LESS.
My husband spent an hour with a customer service rep two nights ago and got no satisfaction. Next morning speeds were back to normal. Now our connection is awful again.
If someone cannot get this resolved, we will have to go to a competitor for service. I guess there is just not enough bandwidth in this area to go around. Do I really have to go to Comcast to get decent connection?

Solved --- My DSL internet connection problem is solved. For a while, I was not able to connect to the internet in the evening at times during the week. I spoke with a Verizon help-desk person in India, who led me through a test. While my internet access was lost, I reconfigured so that the cord from my Westell box connected directly with the wall socket instead of indirectly. This worked. After 5 minutes, I reverted to the original configuration; and that connection worked now. This all indicated to the Verizon person that the problem was with my DSL filter. It was old, and Verizon sent me a set of 3 DSL filters, one of which now replaces the old filter. That solved it.

• Horrible transfer speeds with Airport Extreme

Have an usb drive on the airport which wirelessly is really slow. Now got to try 2 computers connected to the airport with ethernet cables and the file transfers between them was still ridicilously slow?! Tried plugging them together with a ethernet cable going straight from one to the other with no router in between and got like 1000 times faster transfers. Is there anything to try to fix this? it's ridicilous.... the airport has 7.3.2 firmware

Just got a new dual band Airport Extreme to replace an aging Linksys wrt54g and take advantage of 802.11n.
What a disappointment so far. After wrestling with an obvious degradation in wireless throughput for a couple hours, I cabled a laptop directly into the Airport and was pretty shocked to see that throughput is about 1/3 what it was with the Linksys. I tried everything that seemed configurable to see if this model was just particularly inefficient at something (e.g. disable NAT, disable IPv6, etc...) and nothing made any improvement.
I'm on the latest firmware, 2.4.1.

• Its been almost 2 Weeks...SLOW DL SPEED

My download speed has been really slow recently. my package is 20/5 and now im getting 0.4/2.6.
Whenever I called customer services, they asked me to do the same things. (reboot your modem, turn off your computer, go to speedguide.net, and optimize your setting and so on and on...)
Some of them admitted that they have a problem and others did not. I think that they have been received some complaints and they know about it but they couldnt pinpoint what exactly caused this.
I called them 4 times already, and they keep saying that i should wait and see.
Yesterday I researched some other FIOS forum, and I found In northeast area some people had been experienced the same sluggish download speed as I have.
These people said after verizon's ONT firmware update, they all having slow download speed. and they called technical support and tech guy sent some command and reboot thier ONT. and it was fixed.
So I called yesterday and explained the situation and asked for "hot fix". but she could nt understand the situation and kept saying wait and see.
she even said "hot fix is for Microsoft products."
humm... What shoud I do??
[northeast] Slow Downloads in Chester Springs, PA
They mentioned that they had to implement a "hot fix". That almost sounds like a software patch, is that what that means or something else. If we gave you the group ticket number, could you look it up and see what they did?

update still No Luck...
I called FIOS services center and asked for hard reset on my ONT and they did...no improvement.
they keep saying no problem in thier network...hummm...
I tried 100 full duplex setting change as one guy suggested...no change...
During some research thru internet, One thing I found is that there are quite a number of people who have the same problem as I have.
here is a link for messages.

     http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r21208319-northeast-BIG-Drop-in-dl-speed   I
'm having the same problem. I think mine started early last week also.
I'm getting extremely horrible download speed, from only about 100kbps to 700kbps, on sites like microsoft.com, adobe.com, nvidia.com, giganews.com, ftp.netscape.com, etc. But my upload speed doesn't seem to be affected at all as is shown on speedtest.net. The download speed is so bad that even regular web browsing is somewhat affected.
FIOS tech support said it could be a hardware problem somewhere in the Verizon network and they'll try to pin point it and call me back in 48 hours. I'll call them tomorrow night if I don't hear from them.
The reason for him to say that is because while most places I'm getting horrible download speed, speedtest.net does show that I'm getting full 20Mbps down and 20Mbps up on a few of the testing servers. And while I was going to Trendnet.com to download drivers for my wireless usb adapter, I found that on »downloads.trendnet.com/ I can download at full 2.2+Mbps like I use to be able to.
Hey njchoochoo, try downloading this file and see if you're getting full download speed like you had before.
»downloads.trendnet.com/TV-IP422/···22_W.tgz
If you do, then we're basically having the same problem and I believe there should be more people out there with this.

• HT1414 Is it possible to purchase, or have apple downgrade my Iphone from IOS 6.0.1 to like IOS 5.1.1? The new software makes my Iphone lag, and the new App store is horrible. Willing to purchase a downgrade if necessary.

Would like to downgrade my IOS 6.0.1 Software to the IOS 5.1.1 Software. The new IOS for the Iphone is horrible. Too much lagging. Even after a complete restore, upgrade, no apps but the one the Iphone comes with, and just the basic things, my Iphone is horrible in speed, and loading.
I have the Iphone 4 gsm model 8GB, and I have had many of them. New, and Refurbished.  Performance is all the same.
I am willing to pay Apple for a Downgrade in IOS versions, and I know shsh blobs are required, but I understand that Apple has technology that can do many things with their products. I am no fool, and am only requesting something so simple.

Downgrading of any version of iOS isn't supported by Apple at all. If you search the web, you'll find instructions that may work, but you're on your own should any problems arise. For many people it goes without problems, but for some it's reportedly bricked their devices.
Regards.

• *TERRIBLE* "Write" speeds w/2x Samsung 850 Pro Internal SSD (RAID-0).. HELP! ( pics)

http://imgur.com/a/5p05u
Hello.. I was really hoping somebody could help me out with this, as I'm pretty much starting to lose hope..
I've attached as many relative screenshots as possible, to make it easier to quickly see what's going on.
I've got 2x brand-new, Samsung 850 Pro 512GB SSD's installed inside my MacBook Pro.. One inside the hard-drive bay, and one inside the Optical Bay (SuperDrive Bay), using an OWC Data-Doubler..
I've got these drives configured using Disk Utility, into a RAID-0 striped configuration..
The drives are rated @:
Sequential Read: 550MB/s
Sequential Write: 520MB/s

So "theoretically", I should be achieving approximately close to double these speeds (since that's the basis behind RAID-0 configurations)
Both SSD's are connected internally via SATA-III (6Gigabit Link + 6Gigabit Negotiated Link Speed).. Both in the hard-drive bay, as well as in the Optical Bay (confirmed in pictures)..
I'm getting *EXCELLENT* "Read" Speeds, yet *HORRIBLE* "Write Speeds.. to the point that the RAID-0 software configuration is not even achieving *near* the "Write" Speed of even one of these drives.. let alone 2 of these drives in RAID-0..

I've tried contacting Samsung directly regarding this issue, but since they don't exactly get along with Apple, and even more-so, dislike anything that has to do with "RAID" configurations, I was left with practically no help on that end..
I've tried contacting Apple, who said that I'm pretty much on my own, in terms of support, since they don't exactly get along with Samsung either.. and don't provide much of any support whatsoever, when it comes to third-party, hardware components that are not upgraded directly through Apple themselves.. (aka no support for user-end personal upgrades)
Both of these drives are *Brand New* directly out-of-the-box, shipped from Amazon, as "new, un-opened" items..

I apologize in advance if there's a lot of pictures to go through, however, I know how much of a pain in the *** it can be to troubleshoot these sort of problems, let alone, try to help somebody else troubleshoot these problems while not physically being there in person.. I tried to provide the most comprehensive troubleshooting steps I've taken thus far, as to hopefully make this thread as fruitful as possible, and eliminate any unnecessary steps that have already been taken..
I've tried re-formatting and re-installing OSX Mavericks 10.9.5 several times now, hoping that maybe one of them would allow the RAID formation to work as it should, yet none so far have proven successful..
If you have any time to look through and read this thread, I can't tell you how appreciative I'd be for your help and any advice possible that you can give me.. I do large amounts of audio processing, producing, along with many other taxing system processes, so I'd really like to get this RAID-0 configuration working as it should be..
Please do not waste your time by bashing RAID-0 or writing an unhelpful, opinionated comment that does not move this process forward.. I understand the risks of RAID-0, I run daily backups, as well as having an Apple Time Capsule running in full-force, all day long.. My data is well backed-up, and I understand the risks.
If anybody has dealt with this sort of issue before, please, give me any advice that you can.. I tried to put in the most effort possible with uploading and embedding all of these photos, as to not waste your time and to hopefully make this troubleshooting process as smooth as possible
Thank you all so much in advance! :apple:

• Print Speeds Acrobat 9

Anyone out there seeing some truly horrible print speeds on Acrobat 9 with OS X 10.6.3?
Here is the situation:
PDF 163mb in size - 196 pages
Go to print, choose multiple pages, choose 6 pages per sheet
Change page size to tabloid
go to print
PIZZA (Color Wheel of Death)
I know the application is doing something, because it is using 114% of my CPU (I have four of them... so its ok)
Now...
Take the PDF to a PC
Open it and do the same thing...
Printing is 4 bazillion times faster than on the mac.  Matter of fact the mac is still pinwheeling while the PC has passed the print job on to the printer and is looking at me saying "Got anything else you need me to do?"  Acrobat on the Mac, is still having seizures.
Any ideas? (telling me to switch the entire company to PC won't do.  The creatives will revolt and the last time they did it wasn't pretty.)
Thanks for any insights that you can give me.

This is a coding problem of the website. It has nothing to do with your computer. Download the pdfs (right-click on the url), it will download to your computer and you can print it out yourself.

• Just cannot get a good connection speed....

Hi all,
We changed our ISP from a steady 2MB connection with TalkTalk to a potential 8MB connection with BT about 2 and half weeks ago.
The TalkTalk connection was sound.....It was stable and reliable and we never had any problems when accessing the internet, downloading files and using games consoles for online play.
Then we got BT (My dads call, not mine...) and things have just hurtled downhill at a gargantuan rate.
We were told of a 10 day stabalisation period, which I was willing to ride out, despite a horrible connection speed which made browsing, downloading and playing on my PS3 close to unbearable.
We have contacted BT by phone numerous times to no avail, and our speed hasnt improved ONCE over the last 2 and half weeks we've had the connection active......I figured the 10 day stabalisation period would have improved gradually over that time, and not just suddenly kick in during the end of the 10 days.
I've been using the Homehub 2.0, but the previous Router doesnt seem to work either (Netgear), so I;m assuming its the connection itself causing the problems......I'm 95% sure its nothing we can do about it.......I've personally tried everything and had no success whatsoever (tinkering with router settings, trying different routers etc.)
The router stats are below.....According to a speed tester, our download speed is 0.13 and upload speed is 0.46 (obviously not what it should be!)

Thanks for the help mate, just gave the speed tester another bash and managed to get something back.....As predicted, results werent exactly brilliant....
FAQ
Test1 comprises of two tests
1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Download Speed
55 Kbps
0 Kbps
250 Kbps
Max Achievable Speed
Download speedachieved during the test was - 55 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 100-250 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :287 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 440 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 135 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 2.17:4.67:93.87 (SBE:NBEBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.
2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.
Upload Speed
259 Kbps
0 Kbps
440 Kbps
Max Achievable Speed
>Upload speed achieved during the test was - 259 Kbps
     Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 440 Kbps
This test was not conclusive and further testing is required. This might be useful for your ISP to investigate the fault.

• Compressor speed depends on the codec you choose

Hi, add my cent to speed and quality issues.
Compressor speed depends on the codec you choose, Animation it's incredibly sloooow...that's not happening in QT MPEG2 export.
ah... tip: if software update blown away your QT MPEG2 export, reinstalling DVD Studio pro 3 the function is restored)
I don't know why they have thrown away MPEG2 export, introducing FCP Studio Pro and QT7, forcing use of buggy Compressor, though.
Trying to compress Animation files, Compressor hangs and takes time to refresh the preview window, at every change of pameters it needs an unusual looong time to go further.
That's not happening with all the other codecs.
DV, Uncompressed 8 or 10bit are fast as they expected to be,
if you keep an eye at CPU usage, when compressing Animation files it doesn't go up 15% agaist 50% or more with other codecs (in my Quad).
I don't know what's the matter here, surely a bug, but the problem is big because Animation was the most used codec for graphics and i have a lot of motion menus in that format, to encode.
A workaround is to convert all those file in Uncompressed 8 or 10bit (big storage required...) then batch compress all and maybe i'll be able to do the job faster than go straight from Animation to MPEG2 through endless compression time in Compressor.
I could use QT MPEG Export but loosing some functionality.
So do not use Animation for graphics!
That said about speed, what about quality...what's that pulsing halo and noise introduced in MPEG files?
I noticed it happens every GOP, pulsing halo and noise and is present in QTMPEG2 export too.
We all complain Compressor but the fault is not only in there but in QT itself and QTMPEGExport.component.
Come on Apple your defness is screming loud, developer team can't take all that time to correct those bugs!
We do not exist only when new gears are advised!
We are not dressing dolls all day here, we do it for living our customers pay money for good DVDs, we should pay as well for good and not broken pieces of software. right!
We all love Apples but also the greatest love story ending a day.

Yes, of course tweaking is possible.
Opening ports will probably not increase your bandwidth, merely diminish the security you seek, from your first statement in first msg.
Horrible wireless speeds? That's because you're on that 'b' speed (11Mbps?) router...but you knew that.
Get a real router, a Linksys/Belkin/Dlink. Beware of the hype surrounding 108mbps, or turbo. 1 WAN port, 4 ethernet ports, wireless "G".
And remember with your cable ISP, you have very few speed numbers that will be certain. When the neighbors are all downloading the whole season of "Lost" for their iPods...your download speed will feel slower. Upload speed looks like it might always be a fraction of your DL speed.
(get used to it).
The fact is, you may already "taking full advantage of your broadband".
This is almost turning into a topic that belongs out at DSLreports.com. They're the tweak-freaks <big smile>.
