Horrible Sound Distortion with Creative HS-950

Hi, I recently bought the HS-950 USB Gaming headset. About 4 hours into gaming, I experienced an unpleasant sound distortion that made everyone on Vent Sound slowed down. I unpluuged my headset and a few hours later I had the same problem. After reading through the forums I have gathered this is a Major problem. But is there a Fix?
I am running Vista 32bit and using Realtek HD sound.
Thanks,
Vortexx.

I'm having the same problem .. horrible sound quality (headset OR headphone mode) on a MacBook Pro with built-in Bluetooth. I've got the latest & greatest update of Leopard too.
Headset works great with my cell phone (no distortion).
Will keep looking. Someone please post if they see a solution.
Here's one possibility, although it says it is for Tiger and requires some command-line manipulation (not bad, but I don't expect to have to do this kind of thing on OSX):

  • Vista SP 1 Sound Issues with Creative Drivers

Hi all, I recently switched to a X-Fi Elite Pro, with a Nvidia Video Card.
    Windows Vista SP (32bit)
    Intel Pentium D .8 Ghz
    2gb RAM
XFX GeForce 8600 GT 52mb running
    Creative X-Fi Elite Pro
(it's been a while since I've needed this kind of support so let me know if more info is needed)
Anyways, from the moment Vista plays the logon sound there is static crackling and chirping noises whenever there is audio playing at the same time as any kind of visual change on the screen (not every screen update). For example videos on websites that play them as plugins are especially static-y. However, playing a fullscreen game (i.e. World of Warcraft) does not produce the static.
Interestingly, I have now tried two different video cards. The Nvidia and now a ATI Radeon, both have the same identical problem. I first thought that it might just be a Nvidia Issue but this is not the case
I have checked for IRQ conflicts and none exist that I can find. I have updated Windows as much as I think I can. I've tried changing Creative drivers as well.
Any advice is appreciated.Message Edited by djscotty on 0-04-2009 05:7 [email protected]

  • IPhone 6 Plus speaker sounds distorted with popping sound when phone rings or alerts play.

My iPhone 6 Plus is less than a 2 weeks old but since day one its speaker sounds distorted.   The ringer or alerts or even the new email alert have a popping or clangy sound to them.  Is this a software issue or hardware?  My phone is uptodate and Ive tried hard reboots to try to alleviate the problem but it didn't fix the problem.  Should I try to restore it?  Also, If I take it in to my local Apple store and they replace it, will my new ZAGG screen protector just be a wasted $20???

    Hi _3ntr0py,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues with your new iPhone 6 Plus. If you continue to have sound or speaker distortion with your iPhone, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:

i have old versions of the above but still like using them. the creative mediasource part got infected so i need to reinstall it but i misplaced cd disc that dell gave me .the versions are like 1.00.6 and are for the players and organizer. if anyone out there has that disc, would you lend it to me so i can install it.

    Hi,
Did your sound blaster came preinstalled along with your Dell pc? If so, you might want to check with them for the earlier version. The version available in the download area may not work/install on your system.

  • Sound Distortion with Itunes 7 Upgrade

There's a lot of talk about the audio distortion. Those that didn't have success with changing the Quicktime Sound Output, try the follwing..
Disable Crossfade in Itunes. Under Edit-->Preferences on the Playback tab.
    Uncheck Crossfade Playback.

I'm afraid I wasn't using Crossfade in the first place, so this solution doesn't work for me.

  • Sound distortion with de-linked audio

    Hi
I'm new to FC Express so I hope I'm making a glaring error and somone will be able to set me straight.
I'm running the latest fuly updated version of OSX on a powerbook (Power PC 1.67ghz with 2gb of RAM). The film clips I'll be referring to are stored on a 500 gb external LaCie drive. The version of FCE is 3.5.1 (with the latest updates downloaded).
The Data is HD video (PAL) recorded with a Sony HVR Z1E. The footage was captured using the HDV1080/50i specification. When it was captured using FCE I selected the "Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i50".
Other than the issue I'm about to describe the laptop seems happy with the workload. All editing operations work without a glitch. Rendering is a touch slow.
The problem is as follows. I want to detach audio from some of the video for use as wildtracks. To do this I've been dragging the clip I want to the Timeline. Selecting it. Clicking the delink button. Selecting the video and deleting it. Just leaving me with the audio graphic.
But when I then play the audio in the Timeline the sound has distorted. You can hear an example of this here: http://www.ewanbailey.com/example1.html
(Just for reference the sound was fine in the Timeline when still running alongside the audio). (nb. What you're hearing is a clapper board then footsteps)
At first I thought that somehow the process of deleting the video had somehow corrupted the audio data. However I find that if I drag the same audio in to the Viewer (where it just appears as a waveform) and then play it, the distort is gone. For reference, this is the same clip played in the Viewer: http://www.ewanbailey.com/example2.html
If it helps, this is a screenshot of the arrangement I'm talking about:
http://www.ewanbailey.com/example3.html (nb. I'm aware that the audio is only carried on one channel - this was a choice in production).
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Following your thinking, I have tried setting up a sequence and selecting "DV PAL 48khz Anamorphic" from the "Load Sequence Preset" button on the Sequence set up menu. This means when I drag a clip into the Timeline it shows a red stripe at the top, which (I think) means it needs to be rendered. So I render "both" on the "render selection" menu.
This then means that the audio doesn't distort when I separate it from the video. And will behave in the way I need it to.
I know nothing about rendering and therefore can't figure out what this means. I have a nasty suspicion that it may mean that I used the wrong codec when importing the (7 hours) of footage. And therefore I'm going to have to re-render any clips that I want to use, which on a G4, takes an age.
(Or re-hire the camera and re-import the lot. Which also takes forever).
The only work around I can think of at the moment is to edit my sequence without rendering (ie. use the default codec for my footage "Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i50"). Then when it's pretty much set, change the codec in the settings to the one that works, render the entire sequence, then start working with the wildtracks I need to sort out the sound. If anyone follows all of this and knows of another way round, I'd love to hear it.
This may not be your field, but I appreciate your input so far. If you can interpret this at all I'd be in your debt. Also, if there's anyone else out there that picks up this thread and knows what I may have done/be doing wrong, feedback would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Sound distorted with hdv

I am importing HDV video from a Canon HV20 using I Movie 06. The picture is good but the sound is distorted. It sounds like it is slow. The project imported at 1/2 to 1/4 time. Any suggestions as to how to solve this import problem?

But you said that the new OS installation has helped!!! So it must be something wrong with the OS or with the sound driver files..
The notebook supports an Realtek ALC 861 HD Audio sound chip. Visit the realtek website and try to reinstall the newest sound driver.
If it does not help install the OS again.. who knows why it happens... maybe a 3rd party applications has a bad influence on some registry keys or system files

  • Sound distortion with Audigy

    Hi all
First off, I have looked at the FAQ's and tried just about everything except a reformat.
I just bought a Sound Blaster Audigy SE card for a budget spec PC. The rough specs are:
    AMD Sempron 2600+
ASRock K8 Upgrade-689 motherboard (supposedly with 7.ch onboard AC'97 audio)
    52mb ddr ram
    ASUS 9250 graphics card (64mb)
When i first put the PC together, the sound did have some distortion when booting up (the windows startup sound was slightly distorted/crackly) and other distortion when other programs were loading and i was playing music at the same time. I assumed this was normal for a relati'vely budget PC.
However, I decided to get the problem solved by buying a sound card to improve the sound quality, but after installing the Audigy SE (and downloading the latest drivers), the distortion has got worse, and almost any program that uses system resources to load will cause a lot of distortion. It's not as crackly, but the sound jumps and slows a hell of a lot when i do absolutely anything else when playing music, like open a browser for example. I seriously doubt there is a fault with the card itself.
I've tried a fresh install, tested my speakers (which are fine) and the onboard sound is uninstalled and disabled in BIOS. There are no conflicting resources with the sound card. Could there be a problem with my motherboard? Or is there a better way to increase the performance of the sound? I wont even get started on running a 3D game engine while sounds are playing... If any more info is required just let me know.
    Thanks in advance,
    Haxel

    You can also check if
    - onboard sound/game/midi is disabled
    - there are IRQs/recources shared w/ sound card --> change Audigy into another PCI slot if there is sharing (see your motherboard manual for IRQ assiments)
    - SRC and HW acceleration are set to MAX
    - directX drivers are up to date
    - codecs are up to date
    - drivers are 'correctly' installed (re-install original drivers from CD by running the ctzapxx.exe -> do not uninstall anything but just install and tag the option asking yuor permission to write over current drivers)

  • Awful sound distortion with colour ipods and etymotic er4-p

Dear Apple - can you please contact me about this and let me know if this problem is a) recognized and b) going to be fixed shortly.
If anyone else has any info on this please let me know.
    Thanks

I've spent a few hours on this. I called Etymotic and they said buy the convertor cable. Someone mailed me and said, that will reduce the output (volume) and sound quality. Apple Europe thought they knew of the problem but it wasn't recorded on their support database and they would not contact someone like a product manager or support manager to confirm either way. So now my ER4-Ps are useless | or my ipod is useless and I am going to return it if apple can't tell me what's going on.

  • Sound distortion in iTunes and not in other players

    Hello,
I've been experiencing some terrible sound distortion with iTunes that I don't have with any other player (WM player for instance).
I installed version 6 and this doesn't fix any issue.
This doesn't cause any problem when transferring files to iPod but still, have to be fixed!
Has anyone a clue or already fixed this in windows XP?
    Thanks

    Hi,
I have same problem with my iTunes 6.
You can try this(Helps for me):
    1. From the Start menu, select Settings and open the Control Panel
    2. Double-click the Multimedia or Sound, Speech & Audio devices icon,
    3. Select Sound and Audio Devices, click the Advanced Audio button
    4. Select the Advanced tab then
    5. Select the Performance tab and find the Hardware Acceleration slider control
hardware acceleration should be set at full.
sample rate conversion quality should be set at best.

  • Sound Distortion playing DVDs with Audigy2 Va

Last time I have problems playing DVD movies on my computer: The sound is distorted
by scratches like an old vinyl. I am using a SB Audigy 2 on Win XP. I have tried several software DVD players, reinstalled the old drivers from CD and cleanly installed teh newest drivers via internet auto update. I also tried to update my VIA chipset drivers, deactivated several background programs etc.
I found out that disabling the sound acceleration in DXDiag removes the sound distortion but then the sound (speech, effects) within a movie are extremly quiet compared to the music.
Another thing: First I deinstalled completely the software and drivers from my audigy to replace it with new ones. Then I had to notice that the new Audio Control Center does not support the option to send bass-frequencies to my subwoofer. I could set the speakers to 5. but had no chance to get my subwoofer working. At the moment I have status quo by using new drivers, but my old creative applications for configurating my speakers.

Ijust checked the preferences, go to Disc Setup and on the bottom in the Audio section, check off the box that says "Disable Dolby dynamic range compression" see if that helps.

  • Sound clicking and distortion with X

Anyone else having sound clicking and distortion with their X-Fi Card? Its rare in most games, but I have a couple games where its very common Eve-Online for example. I have a X-Fi Fatalty FPS.

Using Asio4All will introduce a higher latency than using Creative X-Fi ASIO / Bit-Matched -mode, so the later is recommended. If you get distortion make sure that your volume is not turned up to max, it should be around 0db in the mixer, which corresponds to about 80%. If you get cracks/pops then it's due to the bad performance of the ASIO drivers of the X-Fi. The latest beta also says to remove cracks/pops and some distortion problems in audio creation mode, maybe try them.
Again, here is a list of real latencies as measured on my own system, using the latest stable driver (not the beta one):
    Rate = sample-rate
Comp = latency compensation in ms (by how much the real latency differs from what the application/driver reports
Low = lowest no of buffers (in samples) that I was able to use
Real = real measured latency (in contrast to what the application/drivers reports)

  • Sound not working if memory above 4 GB in win 7 64b with Creative SB X-Fi?

I have a HP Pavilion D4760.SE PC with Creative Labs SoundBlaster X-Fi .  I have Logitec X530/5.1 speakers connected.
To increase performance I added 4 Gb memory (up to 6 Gb) and reinstalled from 32 b win 7 to 64 b win 7. Everything has gone OK except for the sound.
I installed Creative SB driver 6.0.1.1375 from 2010-05-05. I have sound but it is heavily distorted. I also tried driver 6.0.230.4 from 2014-02-28 but with no sound at all.
I reduced the memory at start-up to 3990 (anything less than 1024 * 4) as a hint from a Microsoft support page and with that the sound is OK.
But I would like to use all memory so my questions is:
    1. Is there any driver available to get SB to work with full memory?
    2. Is SB X-FI not compatible with memory above 4 GB? Which sound card shall I then upgrade to (working with main memory of 6-8 GB)? I only use the speakers for Music (spotify & iTunes) and some video and TV, no games.

Windows Upgrade Advisor says Creative X-Fi is compatible with Windows 7 64b.
I have tried the Vista 64 b driver from HP from 2007 but the installation is not fullfilled (Computer does not have the requirements for this with error code 9998). Installation is terminated.
I have placed a mp3 music file on desktop and started it with Windows media Player and iTunes. If I use RAM below 4 GB it is working fine, if I use RAM over 4 GB sound is heavily scrambled/distored. If I use a later driver from 2014 no sound at all.
I include my latest conversation with Creative Support. If no solution is to find do you think the newer sound card they propose will work?
    Creative:
Based on the information you provided, the Sound Card that you have is an OEM product which means that support is handled by the PC manufacturer. Kindly check there support page if there is any driver available for the card.
You may want to try the latest driver that we have for the retail version. This is unsupported.
    http://files.creative.com/manualdn/Drivers/AVP/13079/0x4967B6B7/SBXF_PCDRV_L11_2_30_0004.exe
    My reply:
HP does not have any driver to support.
The 2_30_004 driver you gave a link to is not working with X Fi. I tried
once more. And if I run a Creative Auto Update the recommendation is to
use it but in the comment it is written that it should not be used for X
Fi. The result is the same, no sound, and if I use Spotify I even get a
message that the sound card is not working.
My conclusion is that my sound card is not compatible with windows 7 64
b with memory above 4 GB.
Have you any proposals what I shall change to?
    Creative reply:
You may want to check the Sound Blaster Z to replace your current sound card.
