Horribly slow to import new music

Running lion and the latest version of itunes
lately when importing new music to itunes,  it's taking forever just to add each song,  approximately 1 or 2 minutes each.
I've tried searching for answers and this seems to be a comming issue.  Is there a fix for this?
As a professional DJ,  I really require this to work efficiently.

  • Suddenly unable to import new music with 11.1.4

I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes and I'm still not able to add new music from my computer, only iTunes downloads. I've tried opening the files with iTunes, dragging and dropping, adding them to the Automatically Add to iTunes folder, and manually addding them to my library.

  • Import new music/audiobooks to iPOd

My computer completely crashed with all my iTunes downloads. I have the music and audiobooks on my iPod Classic. Since then I installed iTunes again and downloaded more music and audiobooks. However, my iPod will not take them as it is "not synced" with my new iTunes. It wants to delete all my currently installed iPod stuff before allowing me to download anything new. Is there a way around this?

Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. The transfer of content sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • ITunes music files cannot be edited, and new music files imported.  The messages says I do not have enough access privileges even though I am the administrator of the system.

Since installing the latest version of iTunes all my music files cannot be edited, and I cannot import new music files into iTunes.  The messages says I do not have enough access privileges even though I am the administrator of the system.  If anyone can help me sort this out I would be really grateful.  I have checked the read and write privileges for all the iTunes folders and it all seems in order so I can't understand it.
In general, I am getting really frustrated with Apple.  They seem to be getting ever more controlling in their approach to their consumers.  I need to edit music file information as I am a dj.  And why can't I import music, unless I buy it from iTunes?  Most of all, why can't I use the devices I paid a lot of money for in the way I want to use them, and not be forced to coerced to use apple's fee paying services (iCloud, iTunes).
I have used apple computers since the early 1990's, but in the last year I have gotten rid of my iPhone and my iPad and replaced them with Android devices.  Much better and much less control.  Perhaps it is time to switch from Apple altogether.

  • New music

i recently vacationed and downloaded a lot of music from my friends' itunes libraries. when i returned home i imported new music into my library and now, since my return, i have not been able to have new music in my library updae onto my ipod. i talked to tech serv. as much as i could without the apple protection plan and i understand that my music aquired away on my trip won't go into my library, but i need my ipod to take the music i add to my library...HELP!!!
not sure..kinda home made   Windows XP

I'm sorry you probably won't get much help as this is considered to be illegal file sharing & any discussion of how to do this is against the "terms of use" of these forums. iPods were specifically made to transfer in only one direction, iTunes>iPod to make it very difficult to do what you are attempting to do. Please don't steal music!

  • Slow Import of Music CDs

    Hi All,
Using new PC w/Pent 4, 3.06 Ghz, 1gb Ram, DVD and CD bays, Win XP w/Serv Pak 2. Installed iTunes 5 and importing a music CD uses 100% of the CPU. Checked for other proceses, nothing, just iTunes using 100% of a 3Ghz CPU. Tried both the DVD bay abd the CD bay. Problem the same. Tried MusicMatch and Roxio to import. No problems, both programs import using 4% of my CPU and very fast.
So, Uninstalled iTunes and then re-installed. Same problem. Hoping one of the Level infinitiy Apple Angels will suggest something?
    Todd

When you put in your CD to copy the music to your library the speed will depend on the CD drive you use. Different drives have different read and write speads. The transfer speed will depend on how fast your CD drive is able to read the CD.
As for transfering the files to your iPod once you have imported the songs into your library are you using a USB 2.0 port? My PC actually doesn't have one so I just use my 1.0 and yes it is slow but that is why they recommend a 2.0 USB drive on the package. Actually it isn't as bad as I thought it would be using 1.0.
If you are using a 2.0 USB port then I'm not sure what the problem might be. Try on a different computer with a 2.0 USB port and see if it is still really slow transfering for you.

  • HT1386 how to import my music on ipad from a new itunes account

Did you try to transfer the purchased music from the iPad into iTunes?
    Transfer purchases.

If the music was not purchased from iTunes, you cannot import it to your iTunes library without a third party app. Where did the music on the iPad come from?

  • Changed file directory path on new drive...how do I import my music and playlist?

Previously I had relocated my iTunes library successfully to an internal secondary drive on my old PC.  Years later, my PC crashed and i had to reinstall everything, also upgraded from xp to Win7.  Due to preference' storage, I installed iTunes (v11) onto my c drive, but want my iTunes library on my secondary d drive. Should mention that I was able to saved all my iTunes music and apps from the crash.  So I installed iTunes on c drive.  Obligatory iTunes media file was installed by program default into my music, of which I deleted.  I opened iTunes and set media file path in advanced setting to d:\itunes, which is the folder that I have prior sub folders for music, apps, TV, movies, etc with xls and itl file as was previous before crash.  Closed and reopened iTunes. Did not recognize library.  So then I moved xls and itl file out of the folder to desktop, closed and reopened.  Recognized some music, and wanted me to download from the cloud music that was physically in the folder.  No apps recognized. Wanted me to turn on home sharing, which I don't think will work in my case as I have no oither computers running itunes .  as there was no option to import a library in v11, I deleted this version.  Next, I installed version 9 from apple support site.  Again deleted iTunes media folder (empty) set by default in my music on c drive.  Set file path in. ITunes advanced tab to d:\itunes as previous, where library is now located.  Then imported xls file in iTunes folder on d drive through library tab.  This worked to a point.   All music in iTunes music folder and playlists were now showing in iTunes.  Apps are not.  Yes, have app tab checked.  Also, when xls file was imported, new iTunes media file folder was recreated in my music on c drive, and duplicate copies of all music files imported from original music folder on d drive were created within the iTunes folder on d drive.  Clarification: my library is set up on d drujve as such: have a main iTunes folder, then sepereate subfloders for TV, music, apps, books, etc., versus having a iTunes media folder containing all these separate subfolders.  So you can imagine, had original music files in music folder, and then had duplicate music files created in the original iTunes folder intermixed with music, app, books sub folders as a result of this step.  Also tried placing music, books, app folders into a media sub folder, with no change.  Never even got to step of syncing ipad.  Just trying to re establish previously working library.  Sorry so long a message.  Stumped.  Help!

Copy the entire iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.

I just got a new computer and want to import my music from my ipod classic and keep my current play lists. How do I do this?

You can go to the pictures folder on your old computer and copy the "iPhoto library" file and copy it to a thumb drive or something like that and then just open it on your new Mac.

I opened a share account on a second laptop and imported my music.  How do I move all my apps, contacts, etc for my Ipod touch to the new computer?

    - Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in Tunes and select backup
    - Restore the iPod from that backup.

  • I'm having difficulty importing purchased music from iTunes store to my new MacBook Air

I am having difficulty importing purchased music from iTunes to my new MacBook Air

What problem are you having ?
You should be able to copy your library from your old computer : How to move your iTunes library to a new computer. Or if both computers are connected to the same wifi network then you could use home sharing to copy it over. Or copy it from your backup of your downloads/library and add it via File > Add To Library.
You might also be able to redownload some/all of your past purchases via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage,or by going into iTunes > Preferences (command-comma) and ticking the 'show iTunes in the Cloud purchases' tickbox - it might then show in the Music part of your library with a cloud icon against it for redownloading.

  • How to import itunes music & playlists frm extrnal drive onto new computer?

HI! i have had my itunes library on an external drive for some time because my old laptop didnt have enough memory. i have now purchased a new computer (HP 6700 w/ Vista) with enough memory to hold that library. i think i'd like to import the library to the new computer and leave the external drive and old laptop as back-up. can someone please advise me how to import the library from the external drive onto my new computer in a way that is sure to include all my playlists (im a dj & my playlists are my life!). THANK YOU!!

Ok if you active library file is in the iTubes folder in c:\...My Music, you should have the location of your iTunes Music folder pointing at the folder with you music file on the EHD.
    Look in Edit>>Preferences>>Advanced>>General.
(This just confirms things are as you say).
First you need to be sure all your music files are in the iTunes Music folder that you are using on the EHD. Consolidate if they are not.
I assume that the iTunes Music folder in c:\...My Music\iTunes will be empty if you moved all your files to the EHD.
You need to install iTunes on your new computer, but don't add any new music.
Copy the iTunes folder from your c: drive into a convenient place on your EHD.
Now go to your new PC and, with iTunes closed, drag the iTunes folder out of Music to the desktop.
Now copy the iTunes folder that you just saved on the EHD into Music on the new PC so that it replaces the one you dragged out.
You will probably need to set the permissions on the folder to allow your account full control.

    http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/05/25/how-to-take-ownership-and-grant-permiss ions-in-windows-vista/
At this point, you could duplicate your previous setup by setting the location of your iTunes Music folder to the EHD, but you said you wanted the music on the laptop.
Delete the empty iTunes Music folder in c:\...Music iTunes and replace it with the iTunes Music folder from the EHD. If this folder is not called iTunes Music, rename it. Also check the permissions are OK.
With any luck you should now be able to start iTunes and have your library intact.
