Host Computer won't show on MBA Remote Disc

I need to install iWork on to my MBA and I'm trying to use the DVD sharing option...
On my host computer (an imac) I have opened the system preferences>sharing and clicked the DVD or CD sharing box, as well as the Ask me before allowing other to use my DVD drive box.
I then switch over to the Air, go to finder, click on Remote Disc under Devices and...nothing shows up...
They're both connected to the same wireless network...
Help! And Thank You!

Hi-
The error report "the underlying task reported failure on exit" is a hard drive error that Disk Utility couldn't repair. However, if the Disk Utility was from the Leopard install disc, then the version is wrong. If the error came from the Tiger disc, you may need DiskWarrior to correct the error.
First, though, try repairing the hard drive with fsck.
Boot to Single user mode by holding Command+S while booting. In the resulting screen, at the command line, type /sbin/fsck -fy and press Return.
fsck will go through five "phases" and then return information about your disk's use and fragmentation. Once it finishes, it'll display this message if no issue is found:
The volume (nameofvolume) appears to be OK
If fsck found issues and has altered, repaired, or fixed anything, it will display this message:
FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED
Important: If this message appears, repeat the fsck command you typed until fsck tells you that your volume appears to be OK (first-pass repairs may uncover additional issues, so this is a normal thing to do). Two, three or four tries may be necessary.
When fsck reports that your volume is OK, type reboot at the prompt and then press Return.
Your computer should start up normally and allow you to log in.
If the fsck returns that the drive is OK in the first pass, and typing "reboot" doesn't get a proper startup, try resetting the PRAM on the G4. Hold CommandOption+PR while booting, hold until the second startup chime, and release. The machine, hopefully will boot.

  • Office '08 DMG not showing on MBA Remote Disc

    Hey all!
I installed Remote Disc onto my 2.8 iMac, and when I put in my DVD with Office '08, it doesn't show in the Remote Disc pane on my MBA.
    Suggestions?
It installed just fine on my iMac, but doesn't show on the MBA when it's in the drive... Happened to anyone else?

Did you check CD or DVD sharing in System Preferences/Sharing ?

  • Host computer won't recognize the target computer.......

So here is a rundown of what happened....
I just bought Leopard and tried to install it on my computer. It said I did not have enough free space ( I need 11 GB, I have 1.4 available) and that it would have to delete everything on my computer to get it to install. Well, I didn't want that since not everything was backed up. Now, when I start up my computer the apple logo comes up with the spinning "sunshine rays" and then just shuts off. There is no way to get my computer to restart. I have tried using the "restart from" and selecting my hard drive and then the computer restarts, sunshine thingy spins, and then my computer turns off.
I have tried to run the disk repair only to have an error message come up half way through saying "the underlying task reported failure on exit". No idea what this means. There has to be some way for me start my computer back up or save all my files. I have bought the 1TB time capsule so that should fee up enough room for Leopard to run smoothly once I get it installed
I tried repairing it and I got the same message as I did trying to verify it. So here is another weird little tid-bit. When I try to re-install Tiger it doesn't locate my hard drive as an option to install it on. But when I use the install disk from Leopard it does locate and give me the option to install it on my hard drive. If I install Leopard and erase and format (journaled?) my hard drive in order to do so, will I be able to use any programs to recover my lost files?
So now I am trying to use my iMac as a host computer and the G4 that won't start as the target computer. I have tried everything I can think of but the host computer will not recognize the target hard drive. Everything is hooked up correctly I think and the hard drive from my bad computer should be on the desktop of my iMac but it isn't. Any ideas????

  • PCI MXI-4, Host computer won't boot when pci/mxi-4 cable is connected.

This is a new installation of a PXI-MXI-4 (8331 controller) chassis (1031) and MXI-PCI card.  The controller is in PXI slot 1, the other 3 slots have Mux & Digitizers installed. The drivers are installed (NI-PXI, DAQ 7.4), the Winows XP device manager shows the MXI connection monitor & the PCI-PCI bridge working properly.
Problem: The host pc to pxi cable must be disconnected so the computer will boot up, then reconnected. In MAX the MXI-PXI controller type is configured as 'External PC'. MAX displays the slot 1 controller & a 'connection timed out' message. The other 3 slots are greyed out and displayed as unknown.
I have tried removing & reinstalling the drivers & moving the PCI card to a different slot.
    Any suggestions? Thank you -WR

    Hi,
You can find a troubleshooting guide at

You might also need to update your computer's BIOS.
Have you tried the PCI card and chassis with another computer?
Do you have another MXI kit available for you to test with your
computer and chassis? Trying these can help narrow down the source of
    the problem.

  • Migration assistant host computer won't recognize target

I am trying to transfer files from a 2011 iMac to a 2013 Macbook Air. Both are running Mavericks. Using Migration Assistant and a wifi connection, the Air finds the iMac immediately but the iMac can't locate the Air, even after 5 minutes of the spinning disk. File sharing is open on both computers and both are on my wifi network. How can I get the iMac to recognize the Air?

    Hello midwest,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mavericks
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5872
If you choose wireless migration, make sure you are on the best Wi-Fi connection available. Use the Signal Strength meter in the upper right corner of your screen to find a location that provides the best signal to your source computer before you start. You may also want to eliminate potential sources of interference.

  • Local printers won't show up in Remote Desktop Connection Manager 2.7

    Hi everybody
I really need help. I connect to a server through RDC Man 2.7 on my Surface Pro 3 to use the installed accounting software. Now I want to print stuf such as journals but when I print, I cannot choose my locally installed wirless Printer. I used to be able
to do it using RDC Man on my iMac in OSX.
I have ticked printers on the local resources tab in settings to no avail. I hope somebody can help me with this issue as I really need to be able to print.
    Thanks a million.
    Best regards
    Ben

    Hello Ben,
Do you mean that the Surface Pro 3 can’t find the local wireless printer when you remote desktop to a server? And when you remote from a iMac at the same time, the Surface Pro 3 can find the printer?
Can the surface pro 3 printer when it is not connected with the remote server?
Please take the following steps for troubleshooting:
    1. Check if you can normally ping the IP address of the printer when you can’t printer.
About the command ping, please take a look at the following article.
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb490968.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
    2. Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\All Categories
    and run printer troubleshooter
    3. Please try to update the driver from the manufacturer website and check if the issue still exists

iTunes never displays the iPod in the left pane?
iTunes is shipped with a "helper application" called the "iPod Service" that runs and is used by iTunes to communicate with the iPod device. This service may be disabled.
If your system is Microsoft Windows XP and you are logged in as an Administrator:
    1. Quit iTunes and, if your iPod is currently connected to your computer, safely remove it using the system tray application to manage removable devices.
    2. Right click on "My Computer"
    3. Select "Manage"
    4. In the "Computer Management" window, left pane (tree view), follow this path:
    +Computer Management (local) > Services and Applications > Services+.
    5. In the right pane, scroll down to "iPod Service" and double click it.
    6. If the service is listed as "Disabled" and "Stopped," change to "Manual" and "Start" it. ("Manual" will cause it to start when iTunes starts and "Start" starts the service right now.)
    7. Close "Computer Management"
    8. Restart iTunes and wait for it to completely come up.
    9. Reconnect your iPod.

  • I have purchased music from itunes on my iphone and it won't show up in my Ipod music library on my phone.  It shows up in my itunes library on my computer.  This is a recent glitch as up until this week purchased music downloads fine on phone.

I purchased music on itunes on my iphone and the songs won't show up in my music library on the phone.  They are on my computer itunes library but it won't let me transfer the purchases back to my phone (which I have never had to do before).  Never had this problem before this week when purchasing music on my iphone.
My Itunes library on my laptop is slightly different from my Iphone library so I don't want to erase and sync the entire library.

In iTunes, try signing out of your Apple ID & then back in: click on iTunes Store on the left sidebar of iTunes, click on your Apple ID on the top right, sign out, sign back in.  Then try to sync your purchased music to your phone again.

I tried reseting it and everyting, and I reinstalled iTunes, and I restarted my computer. But nothing works.

  • I have a gen3 iPod touch.  It shows the battery charging when I plug into my PC, but will not show as an extra drive in "my computer" and won't show up in iTunes either.  Can anyone help please?  I have exhausted all "help" options.

I am trying to get my iPod touch (3rd gen), to show up in "My Computer" and in iTunes.  I am using a usb cable and it is connecting okay, because the battery is charging.  It won't show up as an external drive on my computer, and nothing in iTunes either.  I have used the exact same usb cable and plugged into the exact same usb port with a different iPod touch without having this problem.  I have swapped them back and forth and it seems to be a problem with this particular iPod, because the other shows up just fine.  I have already downloaded and installed the latest iTunes update, and I already restarted the computer afterwards.  The other iPod is a 4th gen touch, but that really shouldn't matter.  I would greatly appreciate anyone's help on this matter.  I know that I can't be the first person that this has happened to.  Thanks.

Dude you have a jailbroken phone as stated in your first post, no need to do a second post.
As per the forum term of service you can't get help here.  Use google.
that's the downfall of jailbreaking your phone.
