Host Integration Server 2013 Licensing

Hello All
Question about licensing. I understand HIS 2013 is licensed with BizTalk. However, I am trying to better understand how the bits should be purchased in accordance with the proposed architecture. For BizTalk, licensing is based upon the Architecture and associated
cores, Std vs Ent. For HIS, I get the bits with the purchase of any version of BizTalk (Std, Ent, Branch, etc.). If I am planning on a fault tolerant, high available HIS infra (no BizTalk, just HIS), am I also concerned with HIS licensing per core? So, if
2 servers, 2 CPU's per server, 4 cores per CPU, equals 16 licenses? Or, can I scale HIS as needed, given a single BizTalk Branch license?
Thank you
-Jason

Hello Jason,
In your case I recommend you to use the Standard License as you are only using Host Integration Server 2013.
Then you will need for your architecture to license 16 Cores.
1 Core BizTalk 2013 License costs : about $2500
Total : 40.000€
As HIS 2013 is very performant, you can also use for instance only 1 CPU with 4 or 6 Core with higher Frequency per Server.
Here's a good article explaining the licensing model of BizTalk 2013 : http://blogs.biztalk360.com/understand-biztalk-server-2013-licensing/
Q: What license limitation should I consider with the BizTalk branch edition?
A: You may Run Instances of the software on Licensed Servers only at the endpoint of your internal network (or edge of your organization) to connect
business events or transactions with activities processed at that endpoint; provided, the Licensed Server may not:
  act as
the central node in a “hub and spoke” networking model,
  centralize enterprise-wide
communications with other servers or devices; or
  automate business processes
across divisions, business units, or branch offices.
You may not use the server software, including the Master Secret Server, on a server that is part of a networked cluster or in an operating system environment
that is part of a networked cluster of OSEs on the same server.

  • What is the windows server 2013 license version than I need to install workflow manager 1.0

what is the windows server 2013 license version than I need to install workflow manager 1.0?
enterprise or standard? can I install it on datacenter?
please provide me with the reference.
    thanks

Workflow Manager will work with either SharePoint Enterprise or Standard.  It doesn't work well with Foundations since it depends on User Profiles to pass user identity to the workflow.  And yes you can install it on Windows Server datacenter edition.
Here are the supported platforms for installation
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj193487(v=azure.10).aspx
This article talks about integration with SharePoint and states that Foundation is not supported, but it doesn't differentiate between the Server editions, so any edition will do.

  • Project Server 2013 licensing

I was reviewing the Microsoft Project Server 2013 licensing terms and noticed the following:
PPM solutions require a Project Server 2013 license for each running
    instance of the software
    (source: http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/project/microsoft-project-licensing-project-for-multiple-users-online-and-on-premises-project-management-software-FX103802201.aspx)
    The PUR mentions something similar:
For each license, you may use one Running Instance of server software
    (source: http://www.microsoftvolumelicensing.com/ProductPage.aspx?pid=443)
You have to install Project Server on each SharePoint server in your farm. In the past it has always been said that you need one Project Server License for each installed copy (so for every SharePoint server in the farm).
Has anything changed for Project Server 2013?
Is a Project Server License only required for the SharePoint Server where you activate the Project Server Application Service?
Or does running equals installed when it comes to licensing?
Anyone can shed some light on this? Thank you!

I agree with Bernhard on this one....there's been no real change for on-prem licensing....you still need a Project Server license for each server in the farm.
That being said, there was a significant change (and confirm with your local MSFT rep), but in some cases, the online subscription pricing may be used for on-prem installations, i.e. I can pay by user by month instead of buying the CAL.  I don't think
this impacts the server licensing, but worth noting.
The "Running Instance" terminology is maybe meant to capture the VM scenario where I have one physical server running multiple VMs, each one running Project Server?

  • Project Server 2013 licenses in use

Is there any way to retrieve the exact number of PWA and Project Pro licenses in use for a Project Server 2013 instance?
In older versions you had the 'About Project Server' page and for 2010 there was a SQL script. But this script does not work for Project Server 2013.

Thank you Paul! That query works just fine.
I reworked it a bit to suit my needs: take into account DENY and the fact that a PWA CAL is included in the Project Pro license.
My query to list the licenses in use is below:
    SELECT
    PERM.Username,
    CASE WHEN PERM.LogonProDeny = 1 THEN 0 ELSE PERM.LogonProAllow END AS [ProLicense],
    CASE WHEN PERM.LogonPwaDeny = 1 THEN 0 ELSE

I need to buy exchange 2013 license but problem is that I have total 175 users in my organization and then exchange standard license support upto 5 mailboxes and exchange enterprise support upto 100 mailboxes. My boss want to have each user have separate
    mailbox..
So i am looking a solution for 175 users with 175 mailboxes. If anyone can help me and guide me which exchange server is best and how can i manage 175 separate mailboxes ????

    thanks in advance

    Hi FAISAL,
Regardless of which version of the Exchange 2013 will not limit the number of mailboxes, however, different versions of the
restrictions embodied in the number of databases.
More details please refer to the following article:
    Exchange 2013: editions and versions
Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 is available in two server editions: Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition. Enterprise Edition can scale to 50 mounted databases per server in the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) and Cumulative Update 1 (CU1) versions, and
100 mounted databases per server in Cumulative Update 2 (CU2) and later versions; Standard Edition is limited to 5 mounted databases per server.

  • Exchange Server 2013 Licensing

    Greetings all,
this is the first time I get into licensing, although it was a long journey with Microsoft Exchange Servers.
I need to setup a new messaging environment - with (4) four Exchange Serves 2013 Enterprise
total number of users approximately 5000 Users.
If I want to buy the license, shall I get Server License or CAL? or both?
    Thanking you
    Jamil

It is just per server, so it is simply 1 Windows Server and 1 Exchange server license per server. Easy and straight forward :)
But you will also need CALs for each user, make sure you choose the right one. More information including a comparison on these here:

  • Query On Host Integration server

    Hi,
Our current setup is BizTalk 2010 enterprise with HIS 2009. And we are in process of installing HIS 2010.
    query:
    1.Will BizTalk 2010 enterprise with HIS 2010 support DB2 V10?
Current Biztalk compatibility with new Mainframe Z-OS version 1.13

HIS 2010 with the latest cumulative update (CU) applies does support IBM DB2 for z/OS V10 as explained at
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sjackson/archive/2014/06/27/db2-provider-version-information.aspx.
Upgrading to z/OS V1.13 will not have any impact on this scenario.

  • Exchange server 2013 - Setting up DAG

    Hi Guys,
I have an Exchange 2013 server(a single dedicated box with all the roles(MailBox and  Client Access) configured in it. Now I want to enable data redundancy and Failover. So, I want to setup a DAG and my idea is given below.
I Want to setup a 2 node DAG. The first node is my current working box and the second node is another box at a different location. I would then Install Exchange on the 2nd node with mailbox role on it. As it is a 2 node DAG, I would require another box as
    a witness server.
Please let me know if there is any flaws with the above setup. Also, let me know if I require a different Exchange server license for the second installation.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Nash Burns

    Hi,
From the article blow, we know a license must be assigned for each instance of the server software that is being run. The second Exchange server need a license.
    Exchange Server 2013 licensing
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/microsoft-exchange-server-licensing-licensing-overview-FX103746915.aspx
And the type of license is based on the number of mailbox databases.
Standard: designed for the mailbox needs of small to midsize organizations. Also appropriate for non-mailbox roles in a larger Exchange deployment. This edition supports 1 to 5 mailbox databases.
Enterprise: designed for larger organizations that may require a greater number of mailbox databases. This edition supports 1 to 100 mailbox databases.

  • Copy emails (entire mailbox) to another exchange server 2013

    Hi,
We are a hosted Exchange server 2013 solution provider, and we want to migrate customer mailboxes (from exchange 2007, 2010) to Exchange 2013 using some API, as we have a web portal for other admin tasks too. Someone told us that we can use EWS Managed API
    for this purpose.
Is there any article  in this regard, which can help us?
Or, is there any other API which we can use?
    Thanks in anticipation.
    Regards, David Johnson

    Hi,
Glen thanks a lot for your reply. You are always a great help.
We are currently exporting\importing using powershell manually, but there are some difficulties in automating it using a web based app, as we don't want our customers to do any manual changes, while also, from our server, we cannot execute powershell commands
    on remote Exchange 2007 servers.
Automating Cross forest migration is also very diificult, as you know that it has many steps, which are hard to automate, and also there is no api for MRS, as we know.
We have seen some migration utilities doing migration using EWS API, like CodeTwo, and also Transend
Migrator. Can you please tell, if you know, how they are doing it.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
This issue may cause of Invalid access control entries (ACEs) for CN=RTC Service
Try to do the following path to solve the issue:
Click Start, click Run, type ldp, and then click OK.
In the LDP console, click the Connection menu, click Connect, type domain controller name, and then click OK.
On the Connection menu, click Bind, type the credentials of the domain administrator, and then click OK.
On the View menu, click Tree.
In the tree view interface, for BaseDN drop-down list, select the appropriate domain context, such as " CN=Configuration,DC=office,DC=contoso,DC=com," and then click OK.
Under CN=Configuration,DC=<domainname>,DC=com, locate to the object CN=Services, CN=Configuration,DC=office,DC=contoso,DC=com"
    Under CN=Services, CN=Configuration,DC=office,DC=contoso,DC=com", locate to the object "CN=RTC Service,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=office,DC=contoso,DC=com".
Right-click the object in step 7, click Advanced, select Security Descriptor, make sure that the SACL option and the "Text dump" option are unchecked and then click OK.
This will open a new window with security descriptor details
In the middle pane of the Security descriptor Window, select and delete all the access control entries (ACEs) that have “\0ADEL:” at the end in the Trustee column. Multiple ACEs can be selected and then click Delete ACE to delete them.
Close the security descriptor as soon as you delete the corresponding ACE's
    Close the LDP console.
    Then prepare Forest again.

  • SharePoint Server 2013 single server installation licenses and system requirements

We are thinking of setting up a SharePoint Server 2013 for the following features to be accessed by our test team (<100 users)
Our requirements are as follows -
Total user access <100 users(starts with 50 and may be go upto 100)
Mainly Access to TeamSite(Document library), WiKi, BI reports view(SSRS Reports integration)
We have a Visual Studio Ultimate license that covers SQL Server 2012 and Share Point server 2013.
We have also got a Amazon EC2 machine access to create a Xlarge box with Microsoft recommended Cores, Memory, storage for SINGLE INSTALLATION of SharePoint Server 2013 and SQL server database on Windows Server 2012
    My queries are as follows
Are the licenses above sufficient to go ahead with setting up the SP Server? or do i need any other licenses ?
I would like to create local LDAP in amazon without connecting to the company active directory. Would this be possible? We have users from other locations(different countries) providing services to our company and we would like them to access this portal
to share and access docuemnts without any network issue etc..
Are there any known firewall issues with EC2 machines for share point deployment
System requirements for single server installation (with or without BI reports)
Please note this implementation is only for internal use by the test team and is not critical. Not a production implementation.
    Is there any better solution?
    Much appreciate your help
    Thanks
    Vara

MSDN subscription licenses for SharePoint aren't, as far as i know, for use as production devices. This means that whilst you can use it for testing and development you can't use that license for the SharePoint server that you'll all be using.
As such I think you will need to buy a SharePoint 2013 server license. The same goes for SQL, Windows etc.
There is also the question of user licenses, ie. CALs. I don't remember if those come included as part of an MSDN subscription.
    2) Possibly. As long as Amazon can host a domain for you it should be possible.
    3) Pass. Microsoft prefer you to use Azure and most of my training and experience is with that.
    4) High. 4 cores, 24GB of RAM minimum.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262485.aspx#hwforwebserver
You'll either need a 2XLarge or a memory orientated box, in which case you won't have much storage space.
Internal team infrastructure is still important. If you're using it enough to make it worth having then you need it there and running.
Have you considered using Office 365?

Has there been an update released to resolve this
    Cheers D

    Hi  ,
According to your description, my understanding is that you need to know whether Office Web Apps 2013 is working with SharePoint 2013 sites which is in SharePoint 2010 compatibility mode.
For my test, Office Web Apps 2013 with SharePoint 2013 sites which is in SharePoint 2010 compatibility mode is working fine.

It's recommended to download and install
Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT), which is developed by Microsoft Support teams. Once the tool is installed, you can run it at any time to scan for hundreds of known issues in Office

after configuring webapplication and provisioning PWA (URL: http://<server_name>:<port>/pwa), i have extended the webapp to use host header and SSL protocol. now URL become something like this https://mycompany.com/pwa

Hey Paul, good to see you mate :)
and yea i think now we are hitting more on the target.
patch level is 0, its a RTM version without any update. and applying any kind of patch is also not easily possible, because its one server hosting a very complex and huge SharePoint portal as well.
with your clue, i have got Brian's blog related to this exact issue: http://blogs.technet.com/b/projectsupport/archive/2013/01/10/project-server-2013-project-sites-alternate-access-mapping-and-themes.aspx
here he has mentioned a workaround until we apply patch, and also quoted it as a good way of configuring.
    From Brian's Blog:
The first would be to use the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) as the Default zone Url, and then add an Internal
Url to the same Default zone for the server name – http://Project2013/.
Another option would be to set the FQDN as the Default zone Url and then add the shorter version as the Intranet zone or Custom zone.  Either of these would mean that the strings wouldn’t get confused and the site would get created.
now in my case, assuming machine name is: ServerA, and while creating webapplication which going to host PWA site i am defining required host header assuming: epm.
provisioning my PWA using this web app and defing PWA path as "Project" because its a migrated site so i have to use the same name, and the URL i am going to get in the end would be: http://epm/project
AAM is, default zone: http://<server>:<port> and intranet zone: http://epm
is the above complying with the first option of Brian?
