"host name change"--Is this legit???

I got a message "host name ---already in use on this network. The name has been changed to ---", then directs me to go into preferences to edit it. Is this legit???

Apple requests that you forward these types of emails to them as follows (from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4933):

There are several possible causes for this problem.
1. Two (or more) computers on the local network have the same Bonjour name, such as "X's-MacBook-Pro.local".
2. You have two simultaneous connections to the same local network: probably Ethernet and Wi-Fi. If applicable, disconnect the Ethernet cable or turn off Wi-Fi.
3. A Mac wakes from sleep due to network traffic. This is due to a bug in OS X that may only affect some models.
4. A device that gets its network address from the router wakes from sleep, and the address it was using before has been assigned to another device.
5. A third-party wireless router has incompatible settings or firmware. In that case, refer to the manufacturer or ISP for support. Restarting the router may help, temporarily.

we recently changed database Hostname. What are the next steps to configure in obiee? when i login to oracle enterprise manager, all the services are down?

Host Name Changes?

Frequentlly, we get "this computer's local host name on the network is changed to 1234567654-1 because it determines that the original host name "is already in use." This doesn't make network peripherals and communication between our two computers very easy because we need to constantly change it in Sharing to share the printer etc... . When we get the notice, we change the name (number) back to the original and it seems fine for awhile and then returns...
I can find no apparent cause?

I've had the same or a similar issue. My computer was constantly renaming itself with a (2) every time it booted, after a system lockup. I tracked the issue down to CD/DVD sharing... when turned off the problem went away.
When CD/DVD sharing was on, I could not change the name back to the original version, it would get rejected and immediately set back to the version with "(2)", displaying the message:
+The name of your computer "Name" is already in use on this network. The name has been changed to "Name (2)" automatically.+
With CD/DVD sharing turned off, I could name my computer whatever I liked, even back to the original name. Turning DVD/CD sharing back on again would instantly rename my Mac. It's very persistent bug!
Fortunately I found a fix. I was able to get rid of the problem by toggling Bonjour, as described here:

To turn Bonjour off:
sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist
To turn it back on:
sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist
Toggling Bonjour (mDNSResponder) forced a reset of something on my system somewhere, and now I no longer see the issue on reboot, even with CD/DVD sharing turned on. I can turn sharing on and off at will, and my computer is never renamed. Success!
I don't think this problem has to do with CD/DVD sharing specifically... I think it's a bug in Bonjour. I've seen threads where people have complained about this issue because of printer sharing, or remote management! My guess is that a crash can cause a mDNSResponder config corruption, tricking Bonjour to share devices or services using the same name as your computer, forcing the name conflict.
In any case, I hope this fix works for you too. I know I'm a lot happier now that there isn't a lingering issue on my box!

Host name changed on server after router reboot?

I recently installed a new router and when I started my Mac Pro the server (10.7.5) Serverwould not respond and I received an error message stating the host name has changed on my server. I can not recall what I did nut I got the server working. I had to reboot teh router again and have received the following email:
From: [email protected] (System Administrator)
Subject: Network change notification for discussion.pharmweb.net
Date: 26 January 2013 12:48:52 GMT
To: [email protected]
The host name of discussion.pharmweb.net has changed to discussion.lan. Some services may not work correctly until they have been updated to use the new configuration.
I can not get the server to respond to web requests and am not sure what to change, Sharing is showing my local hostname as discussion.local

Are you sure it wasn't just the server's LAN IP that changed?
Is it set to Manual ?
If your server is behing a router with a NAT address, then a change in the public IP shouldn't have caused that error. I bet your LAN IP changed and now you don't have port mapping correct. pherhaps the public IP changed also, but my money is on the LAN address.
If its the LAN address, there is no point waiting for the ISP.
Set it back to the address it used before and make sure the router provides NAT with port mapping to that address.
Thats all in your control, not the ISP.

Host name change

We are in the process of migrating our production system and we may have to change the host name. Is there any way we can convert all the host name entries to the new host name like we do for logical system change using 'BDLS'.

There is no way out... Unlike BDLS where you can replace the new Logical system name and make the changes at 1 go, you cannot change the configurations with the new host name in 1 step. It needs to be done manually.

Problem with OAS Instance Name y Host Name to create trial ssl certificate

Hi, everyone
I have a problem when creating a trial ssl certificate from Verisign page, affer a live assistance, that page rejected my CSR generated from OAS, saying thay my common name has invalid characters.
My Oracle Application Server installation name: Instance.HostName is:
IAS_IND01.ind-internet
So, Verisign told me this name can't contain "_" or "-" characters for example.
I need to know if it's possible to change the instance name and if OAS host name changes also if i change server's host name.
I wouldn't like to reinstall all over again.
Please help.

No your AS server will not automatic. even if you change your host name.
If U 'll try to change your host name, be carefull when U 'll try to start you AS instacne
it ' not start anymore , AS user hosts fill to get full quallified name of your host.
U 've two choices
-1 delete your AS, then change your hosts name, then new installtion of AS
2- If U 've exprience with AS, just breng your AS down, change your hosts name,
U 'll need to do some changes in your AS, just read admininstrator Guide.

PI 7.0 - SMICM - Host Name - Conflict with other places

Hi Friends,
We have host name conflict in SMICM and in other places.
For example, in SMICM it shows the host name 'A' for HTTP protocol and it is green, where as in other places like in RZ10 (Profiles in ABAP), Exchange Profiles (Connection Parameters, Host name), in SLD and in Visual Admin the host name is mentioned as 'B'.
At present, the messages are failing in SXMB_MONI with the error "CLIENT_RECEIVE_FAILED 402 ICM_HTTP_TIMEOUT ".
When we checked the paramter "icm/host_name_full" in RZ11,it shows the empty value.
This problem comes in our quality PI system, ABAP stack.
Could you kindly clarify in SMICM for the HTTP service from where the host name is taken and displays here?

Connect to the operating system. Check this file (replace xxx with your SID and, if applicable, 00 with the correct instance):
C:\usr\sap\xxx\SYS\profile\xxx_DVEBMGS00_ILBNKxxx
Find this line:
icm/host_name_full = hostname.company.corp
Is this maybe empty / incorrect / incomplete?
After changing this the server needs to be restarted.
Sometimes we had strange behaviors after host name changes, which went away after going to sicf -> execute -> right-click on default host -> deactivate -> right-click again -> activate -> in the pop-up click the second activate button, which is for activating the system and all dependent entries.

How to get a host-name representing a WebLogic cluster

We are using weblogic to deploy a service. Service uses the below property to connect on managed port and get datasource informations
PROVIDER_URL=t3://abc.com:20005
Now this is fine but in PRODUCTION we have cluster who have 2 machines-manged server (mt1 and mt2) on which service is deployed.
Now what could be the PROVIDER_URL value inside the service code? we can't choose any of the mt1 (or mt2) as if that server down then service will not respond. We need to use a kind of abstarct host name so that this t3:// access
always will be there. In the env we have LBR but that is an OHS which listen http only. Can any body tell me how to fix this issue?

Fully-Qualified Host Name empty in SMSY

Hello,
I am facing a problem in the SMSY of Solution Manager.
I've got some servers listed in the "servers" tree of the landscape components. Fine. But for all of them, the field Fully-Qualified Host Name is empty.
I need this entry for generating RFC with full host name....
If I put the full host name manually in this field, the RFC are right generated with the full host name in the technical data. But I would like to know how to retrieve it automatically (from SLD I presume...).
Anyone could help me ?

Setting host name for non-Apache webserver

http://www.appdal.com is a website in my Snow Leopard Server. And I have non-Apache webserver running http://appdal.com:8080/ . I want to give host name 'pier' chaing the web host name settings of this
But it is not working. What did I do something wrong?

i want to setup a hostname 'pier', so i can use url 'pier.appdal.com' instead of 'appdal.com:8080'.
Although the latter url works fine, but i don't want to foce my users to enter the :8080 .

Reset Host Name buffer on WebAS Java

Hello everyone.
I'm currently planning the move of a production server to a new hardware. We need to reuse the old host name of the SAP server but it will be associated to a new IP address.
I know that in ABAP it is possible to clear / reset the host name buffer for this kind of situation.
Is it possible on a Web AS Java too? If yes, how can we achieve that?
It will be needed for an XI 7.0 / Portal 7.0 with XCM system that are connected to the system that must be moved.

Buffers like these are automatically reset during the restart of your system. I think this will be the most safe way to do this..

Using inetaddress to find host names

I am currently writing a java program in which I need to capture the ip address of the client machine in which the browser is running. I know I can do this, but how can I find the host name associated with this ip address. If I run the code below, I receive the host name on some machines, but others I get the ip address returned.
I only want to allow people to use my site that have a valid host name. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help! I am trying to use the conditional statement to
check if the ipaddress has an associated host name. I am finding that if the ip address does not have a hostname, the method getHostName returns the ipaddress. I am using this logic to filter out ipaddress that do not have a host name associated with it. I understand that I will receive an exception if an ipaddress is not a valid ipaddress. But I also want to make sure that the ip has an associated hostname.
Is my assumption correct?
