HOST NAME or IP or Localhost

How I can configure the Enterprise Manager because when I put the IP the enterprise if it works but when I put the Host not?
Edited by: tromito on 27-ago-2012 17:16

With limited information you have provided, I am assuming you saying to when you try to access the EM 12c Release 1 (12.1.0.1) url from a browser you provide ipaddress it works and not with the hostname in the url ?
Check: if your /etc/hosts file in correct format ? Did you pass the ORACLE_HOSTNAME parameter while doing the EM install?

  • Host name (localhost) when accessing via web

I installed Beehive and it is running great.
But I may have missed something - when I access the clients using http://<my web dns name>:4443/zimbra I keep getting re-directed to http://localhost.localdoamin:4443/zimbra.
When I downloaded the conferencing add-on it also tries to connect to localhost.localdomain and not to the host name of the server or the DNS name (not the same as the actual hostname).
The Outlook extension works fine and Beekeeper accepts and stays on the web-host name.
Can I get Beehive to begin using the web-host name in place of localhost.localdomain ?

I guess your machine name is incorrecly configured in /etc/hosts or your localhost line does also contain the machine name, which is often the case in linux distros "bare from install".

  • Cannot resolve host names on local network

It is a local network with router, few Windows computers with shared drives and one Mac.
Windows shares appear correctly in SHARED and can be used without any problems, like iTunes and iPhoto libraries are on those shared drives and work properly, even if ip address of those computers would change.
BUT - if I am trying to use VNC and connect to hostname:port, it says that server is not specified. If I try to ping hostname it says Unknown host.
At the same time, similar ping from Windows computer work without any problems.
It could be possible that router does not support something standard and communicates with Windows using something windows-specific, but what confuses me is that I can see computer names resolved in the finder already! Also, as I said iTunes and iPhoto can work with shared files on dynamic ip's which would be not possible if host names would be not resolved.
    Thanks.

Domain Name Resolution for local IP addresses require a Local DNS server running on your network.
Bonjour names will resolve without a Local DNS server. So this is why iTunes and iPhoto works as they use bonjour technology.
A bonjour name ends in .local so in your macs sharing preferences you give the mac a name of imac its bonjour address is imac.local
Other than that you are best giving your devices fixed IP address and adding there hostnames to your hosts file.
the contents of /etc/hosts on your mac would look like
    # Host Database
    # localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
    # when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
    127.0.0.1 localhost
    255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
    ::1 localhost
    fe80::1%lo0 localhost
so at the above that you could add for example
    192.168.1.5 mypc
    192.168.1.6 myprinter
Then you could ping 192.168.1.5 by
    ping mypc
So would have to add these entries to each hosts file on every computer on your lan.
Or you could setup a local dns server and give each computer on your LAN a fully qualified domain name.

  • Local node not included in the list of host names for grid installation

I'm attempting to install clusterware on Solaris 11 on 2 nodes. I've tried tweaking the /etc/hosts file in a few different ways by including the fully-qualified name and without it for the localhost, but it still gives me this error every time. The runcluvfy.sh script doesn't run on Solaris 11. Does anyone know how to get around this problem?
I've tried this using the silent install and with OUI, but got the same error both ways. This is the format of the node names:
    oracle.install.crs.config.clusterNodes=myLocalNode:myLocalNode-vip1,myOtherNode:myOtherNode-vip2
[FATAL] [INS-40907] Local node not included in the list of host names for grid installation.
CAUSE: The local node (the node where you are running the installer) was missing from the list of host names you provided.
ACTION: Include the local node in the list of host names for grid installation.

    Hi,
what Oracle Version are you trying to install?
Best to directly start with 11.2.0.3 and look in MOS for certification, hints requirements.

  • Host name in the getConnection statement.

    HI,
I am trying to use JDBC to access Oracle database. I used the following statements to register the driver and get the connection:
    DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
    Connection conn=DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:test","SYSTEM", "manager");
I have the database called test. I can compile the code correctly, but when I run it, it says "Invalid Oracle URL specified". I am not sure what to use for the host name. I checked the listener.ora, and the port number is 1521. I have the oracle8.1.7 installed on my windows2000, so I believe it is running as a windows service. Can anybody tell me what hostname to use? Thanks a lot.

I tried to add the statement to the init.ora file which is referenced by the inittest.ora file, and the error message changed to the following: (By the way, am I supposed to modify anything in order to use JDBC, or it should be fine after it has been installed?) Thanks.

During the Solaris installation process, you told it what the hostname was going to be and that you wanted that environment to exist with a dynamic IP address instead of a specific address that you desired.
When Solaris boots it broadcasts that hostname and waits for a DHCP server to be quasi-intelligent enough to award an IP address based upon a pre-configured list inside that DHCP server.   Hostname ABC would always get IP address 123 on subnet rst, hostname DEF would always get IP address 456 on subnet xyz, and so on and so on.
That's the fundamental process for proper (and thus secure) DHCP.
All your other environments (Windows, Debian, Ubuntu) are what might be thought of as "hacked for convenience" to get around that sort of network configuration.  They take the lazy way to exist.  That partial networking setup is good enough for a home network but would be miserably insecure in a corporate environment.  Those choices are operating environments that are nice for end-user desktops but aren't Enterprise Class.
    My suggestion?
Review the IP address range in your Netgear router's setup.
It is likely something like 192.169.0.1 through 192.168.0.50 and can be customized.
You probably don't have 50 devices on your network and probably will never have 50 simultaneous devices on your network.
... just do a reconfigure reboot and set your Solaris to use a static IP of 192.068.0.45
Then reboot and I predict your issue that prompted this forum thread will be gone.
That's how I've done it at home for many years, even when installing Solaris to bare metal (no virtualization).

  • Telneting in to Postfix reports back with old host name

    Hi.
I am setting up a home server for my family (4 users) running a late 2010 Mac mini server with OSX Server 3.0.1
I am computer literate but am new to server hosting. I have successfully navigated setting up DNS properlly the way I want it, but am now running into a problem setting up a family mail server.
When I first got the machine I just played around with the server settings under Snow Leopard and turned on some services without really intending to use them as we were all using Google services at the time. I now want to get off those services, such as mail, etc. and host them myself.
Anyway, I've registered a domain and pointed it to my machine, and everything appears to be working properly. I used GoDaddy.com to register the domain.
But after setup of the Mail server, getting my ISPs mail relay server configured, etc. I get the following when I test using telnet to connect to port 25:
    server:~ admin$ telnet 127.0.0.1 25
    Trying 127.0.0.1...
    Connected to localhost.
    Escape character is '^]'.
    220 <oldhostname>.org ESMTP Postfix
    421 4.4.2 <oldhostname>.org Error: timeout exceeded
    Connection closed by foreign host.
    server:~ admin$ sudo changeip -checkhostname
    Password:
    Primary address     = 10.0.1.254
    Current HostName    = <newhostname>.org
    DNS HostName        = <newhostname>.org
The names match. There is nothing to change.
    dirserv:success = "success"
    server:~ admin$ hostname -f
    <newhostname>.org
You'll notice I then double checked that my DNS was set up correctly, and then checked the host name again for good measure. However, Postfix is calling my outgoing SMTP by the old and never really used host name still.
I would really appreciate any help you knowledgable people could give me! Is there a library file that needs updating and if so how do I do that? I found a similar problem here but this is on a linux box, which I have no experience with whatsoever, and can't figure out how to do what he did.
Thank you again in advance for any input.

  • Change host name on windows 2k3 post successful Essbase 11.1.2.1.0 install

    Hi gurus
installed Essbase 11.1.2.1.0 successfully on windows w2k3 ent srever 32 bit
can I change the host name to include domain name
    currently it is
    xxx.xx.xxx.xxx somehost
    can it be changed to
    xxx.xx.xxx.xxx somehost.local.com somehost
is hostname hardcoded anywhere in essbase (or obiee)?

Host name : would be computer name
domain name: security asigned in the network ( i hope)
so you can login via your ipadress , host name(localhost),(computername ), and assigined computername_domainname
but if u see in ur pc where C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\host...u can see the localhost information
in my case while installing , it took domain name +computername
Hyperion is such smart application it takes host name while installation and after installation even it takes name as localhost also.
Unless ur authorised to change the domain name but i dont hope ur infra team will be able to allow you it

  • /etc/hosts Private Host Name Fully Qualified Domain Name does it matter?

During installation of 11gR1 on Windows 2003 the examples in the installation guide show adding the Private IP and host name to /etc/hosts
However they only add the short name, racnode1, not Fully qualified Domain Name (FQDN), racnode1.mycompany.com
    e.g.
    10.0.0.1 racnode1
    10.0.0.2 racnode2
Later when installing the Clusterware it then expects to see the FQDN, racnode1.mycompany.com, of course you can modify this and remove the domain name and continue. OR go back and add the FQDN in /etc/hosts
    e.g.
    10.0.0.1 racnode1 racnode1.mycompany.com
    10.0.0.2 racnode2 racnode2.mycompany.com
What is the best practice? Currently my company is just dropping the FQDN from the name during the install, my instinct is instead to add the FQDN to the /etc/host in the first place.
Does anyone have a recommendation or experience with either situation?
Will (using/ or not using) the FQDN cause me issues in the future?

If it's a problem, the assistent will tell you :-)
    I don't think it's a problem.
Please mind that the first entry will be the name of the ip address, if it's not in DNS and a utility tries to get the name. (that's the reason 127.0.0.1 resolves to localhost.localdomain, it's the first entry in /etc/hosts)

  • Host name (server name)

Who can tell me what the host name (server name) is that I need to use when I add my Apple e-mail address on my iPhone?
I already have a hotmail.com address on my iPhone. So I wanted to add my Apple [email protected] e-mail address.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Even I faced same issue and able to discover it. One of the reasons for Axis "faultString: (400)No Host matches server name localhost" is due to invalid/wrong TargetEndpointAddress. Please check the TargetEndpointAddress URL in call.setTargetEndpointAddress( endpointURL ), endpointURL should be your service published path (.wsdl file).
    Cheers!

  • Urgent & Important: Changing Host Name..Help!

    Hello,
At the time of installing BPEL , the hostname of my pc was 01hw060433. Now this has changed to 01hw060526.
This creates error while testing my newly deployed BPEL process as it still refers to the old name.
    This is the error message:
Failed to read wsdl file at: "http://01hw060433:8888/orabpel/default/syncHelloWorld/v2009_01_30__53840/syncHelloWorld?wsdl", caused by: java.net.UnknownHostException. : 01hw060433
Can you please let me know where this can be changed so that the revised host name is considered?
    Regards,
    Gayatri

Login to BPEL admin and go to the configuration. I forget which fileds to chnage but there are three. Fairly easy to tell which ones as it has the olds host name.
If using 10.1.3.4 there is no BPELadmin the configuration screen is in the BPELConsole left hand tab.
You may also need to change configuration on in em. To do this login from the machine where SOA Installed. but use the URL http://localhost:8888/em. There should be a link down the bottom, could be in the same link as the ports?
If that fails edit the httpd.conf and change any reference to the old environment.
    $SOA_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf
    cheers

  • Configure Mail to use host name

    Hi,
I'm trying to configure Mail on a Mac Mini Server. My problem is that I can't get the from email address to show correctly. The host name is demo.company.com, however email arrives with appleserver2.local (domain name). I've setup two accounts - administrator and user. When I send email from administrator to user it shows as coming form [email protected] - what I want it to show is [email protected]?
I found an article (http://serverfault.com/questions/55342/change-email-domain-os-x-server) which seemed to ask the same question. The accepted answer made some changes to the main.cf file:
    myorigin = $mydomain
    mydestination = $myhostname localhost.$mydomain localhost $mydomain
After I made the changes I restarted the Mail service, but it didn't solve my problem. I even rebooted the server but no change.
Also, am I correct in thinking that a user's email address is configured using the Workgroup Manager under the Info tab?
    Mark

I cannot recommend this, as I am not sure all the intergrations with other apps and databases would work properly, but see:
    http://hintsforums.macworld.com/showthread.php?t=108443
Are you sure this is worth it?  My Mail folder is a long term archive, and I don't delete many messages.  Yet it is less than 20 GB.  Sounds like other apps and databases will overtake your space savings quickly.
