Host OS rebooting every night

I believe that some interaction with the host OS and the VMware is causing the host OS to reboot everynight, and as a result the VMware OS goes through a hard reboot.
I am running OSX 10.9.5 on a MacBook Air with VMware fusion 7.1.1. I am running Windows 7 enterprise.
I have verified that the power management settings in windows 7. They are to never turn off the display and never put the computer to sleep.
In OSX the system will sleep after 15 minutes on both the Power Adapter and the Battery.
I do not have a problem with VM or the host system after waking the host system up from sleep. However, at some point over night the host system will reboot with a hard reboot.
When I close VMware it does not reboot over night.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Letting the host sleep while a VM is running can cause all sorts of funky problems.  Best practice is to manually pause the guest in fusion first, then sleep the host.

  • OS X tries to reboot every night

In the past week I've started keeping my mac on at night to download bit torrent files. For some reason, it reboots itself every night. This is incredibly annoying, and I have my mac secured, so it doesn't automatically log in. I've checked the console log to try and determine what's causing it to reboot, but I didn't find anything. Where can I find what is requesting the reboot so I can shut it off?
    Thanks,
    Todd

    Ok,
I've looked at my system log and I don't see anything out of the ordinary. I fired my macbook up after I got home from work at 19:08, when I came home at 21:57 from dinner, it had tried to shut down. I've included the entire console log, there's nothing between 19:16 and 21:57. Can I turn on more verbose logging?

  • My Macbook pro is crashing my network every night

    Hi,
I have an interesting issue that I hope someone could help me diagnose and resolve.
If I leave my macbook connected to my network at night, in the morning my network is offline, and to get it back online, I have to reboot my cable modem. At first I thought this was a cable modem issue, so I replaced the modem, and it did not resolve the issue. I then, thought it might be wiring, so I contacted my internet provider Cox who inspected all the wiring and found no problems. I then replaced my router first to a TP-link, and then again to a Asus, and the issue is still there.
The only way that I can prevent my network from crashing, is to completely disconnect my macbook from the network every night, and disable the wifi as well.
I would very much appreciate any help.
    Thank you
    Hamid

Based on my outlook sync, the network went down before 316am. I honestly do not know what to look for on the logs but attached is a log from 244am to 314am. If that does not have the information, I can attached a screen shot of the log before that time . Thank you.

  • Mac Mini (CoreSolo) kernel panics every night like clockwork

My new CoreSolo mini seems to kernel panic every night. Each morning, i find it displaying the 'reboot your computer' screen. The system.log is not particularly illuminating:
    Apr 10 23:32:36 the-computer mdimportserver[780]: NSDataMessageStore: couldn't find body
    Apr 10 23:32:36 the-computer mdimportserver[780]: NSDataMessageStore: couldn't find body

Apr 11 11:35:20 localhost kernel[0]: standard timeslicing quantum is 10000 us
Basically, the last thing on the log last night was me putting it to sleep at 1:38AM, and then me at 11:35AM the next morning rebooting it because it was frozen.
This has happened almost every day this week. I have to hold down the power button to get it to shut off before rebooting.
I've run memtest in single user mode on the RAM (2GB), and it has passed over 7 runs without a hitch.
Any ideas? I'm already thinking of getting Apple to exchange this unit due to excessive fan noise, so maybe this is related. Overheating?

The one thing about lion preinstalled is, You can run disk utilities from the restore partition by holding down the R key at startup or run aht by holding down the D key at startup. And it's still under warranty for a year after purchase. If all else fails you can do a restore. If the apple store gets it, that's most likely what they will do. So you'd have to backup anything you want to keep.

  • LG VX5200 plays tone every night at 2:45AM

This started about a week ago. Every night at 2:45 the phone plays a tone. It may be rebooting but I am not sure. All alarms are off. The battery is new and the phone is charged. What is causing this and how can I make it stop?

No...nothing is shown on the screen. It just plays a tone. When I open the phone, it looks normal.  It has been doing this for about 10 days. I finally resorted to putting the phone on vibrate only and it was quiet all night.
    Thanks.

  • Fresh installation of 2012r2 on PowerEdge r620 rebooting every 10 minutes

Installed 2012r2 Standard Evaluation on a Dell PowerEdge r620 today. In response to a failing 2003 DC. It's rebooting every 10 minutes or so with an lsass error.
A critical system process, C:\Windows\system32\lsass.exe, failed with status code c0000005.  The machine must now be restarted.
I'm doubly concerned as in the process I raised the forest level from 2000 to 2003 (We still have 2 2003 DCs, one of them the struggling one) I've promoted it to DC and transferred the FSMO already. I've got the weekend to get it sorted...
It's my first server install and I just did a straight bare metal install without installing Dell drivers. I'm thinking this may be my problem...
    Any advice greatly appreciated.
    Neil

After reading so much about the irreversibility of raising the forest level once offline DCs have been added again I was cautious about adding the previously downed DR DC. However the FSMO roles and AD replication were struggling so, after some consideration,
I brought the offending DC back online (AD has not been actively maintained for more than a couple of years...)
Initial signs were good. Replication was happening.
However, my process involved replicating across to the new server data from more than one source (The org had suffered from server spread over the past few years). In the process of consolidating the DFSR namespaces and shares, and removing legacy FSR replication
I hit problems with deleted namespaces and replication groups lingering and not being able to be deleted. I tried to follow various diagnostic and recovery methods. See this post. My main concerns continue there... :-
Bah. Can't post link. Account not verified yet. Will edit in due course. Check my profile for the DFSR related thread...
Not wishing to jinx it but the AD looks fairly stable now. Slight concern is repeated system log entries indicating :-
The DFS Namespaces service has successfully initialized the shared folder that hosts the namespace root. Shared folder: *********
Would be great to get rid of them.

  • OS4 upgrade = error 29 then reboot every few min. on use

Tried to upgrade my iphone to os4 last night and got an error 29 message and was then stuck in an endless reconnect to itunes loop. Restore only resulted in further error 29 messages. Finally after a good bit of searching on potential solutions I used irecovery to escape the loop. Now os4 is on my iphone (and looks great!) but it reboots every few minutes (2-3) when being used. It does not reboot if off. I tried restoring again after discovering the reboot problem but that got me back to square one and error 29 messages again.
Noticed some others with similar issues but didn't see a thread with this exact problem posted.
Perhaps it's worth noting that I replaced my iphone battery myself a few months ago but had no issues at all until now. Not a jailbroken iphone. Just trying to get it to work.

Ok. From reading through the forums some more it definitely seems to be related to the battery. Perhaps for some it's because they have a semi-bad original/OEM battery. For me I'm guessing it's because I installed a non-OEM battery when my original started to fail. I bought a higher capacity replacement than OEM off the internet thinking it would give me better battery life. It worked perfectly fine until upgrading iOS4. In addition to previous problems posted my battery is either not charging at all now or charging very slowly. It reboots even as I'm trying to recharge. I've turned it off while trying to recharge it now in the hopes that this will make it charge properly. I've also ordered an OEM battery now in the hopes this will fix the problem. Wish I hadn't discarded the original. Odd that an OS upgrade would cause this problem. The tinfoil hat part of me wonders if Apple did this on purpose to discourage DIY fixes. If so, that's really uncool of you, Apple. If I break my phone fixing it myself then let me break it. Please don't break it for me.
Once I get an OEM battery and install it I will update on whether that worked for me or not.
Here's a post from another thread concerning error 29:
    Hi all,
I am so happy! I can confirm the error 29 has been resolved and it is to do with the battery gauge. I ordered a higher capacity battery from Ebay, that messed around with the readout in 3.1.3. I was on the verge on making a claim for a replacement iphone until just now. Also as a word of warning, Non apple OEM battery will cause the phone to crash. Maybe the phone is sensitive to calculating the gas gauge so when it can't work out the exact charge it'll force the phone to reboot every 5 minute interval, this is apples ploy to dig out illegal modifications? This is very interesting, Phone fully functional now after installing OEM battery. I will now install the bigger capacity battery to see if it is compatible with it. I'm guessing not.

  • X2200 and IB card causes reboot every 10 seconds

    Hi
we're currently facing a problem with x86 server and PCI Infiniband Adapter.
Sun as the IB card is in the slot, the server reboots every 10 seconds. This
causes the network connection to get lost (including ILOM). It is impossible
to boot the system (hence no OS could be installed ether). Sun as the IB card
is taken out the system works well.
    Sun P/N: 375-3382

What OS are will you be installing?
On our Infiniband cluster (v20z's with Infinicon IB cards), we first installed linux, then the Mellanox drivers (supplied by the IB vendor), then installed the cards. All has been well for over a year of uninterrupted uptime.
Sounds like the default OS installation (which would be Solaris) does not recognize the card and crashes.

  • Z97 Gaming 5 + i7 4770k + Corsair rm750 keeps rebooting every 3 sec

So this it, last night I've starting building the new PC.
When I try to switch it on, it just keeps rebooting every 3 second.
I can see the red audio boost and green leds switching on, the CPU fan just moving a bit.
I can hear a loud "CLICK-CLACK" on the on/off (coming from the PSU)
I don't hear any beep (case is an Obsidian 550d and I wonder if there's a speaker or something I should connect to hear beeps, or it's only an old thing)
I tried both with and without RAM (Kingston hyperx ddr3 2400  2x8gb).
Tried with one Dimm in slot2 too, and a few more combinations.
Not using any HDD nor a GFX Card at the moment.
Both JPWR1 and JPWR2 are correctly connected.
JFP1 stuff should be correctly connected (at least the power button is).
I'm basically desperade, because I don't know what else I should try.
edit: it actually keeps restarting every 3 seconds not 1

    HOLD ON!
Just checking the whole motherboard for bent pin as I read in another thread,
I found out that maybe I have a bent pin into the USB3.0 connector, that I haven't connected yet.
This is really the best pic I can provide sorry, but it might be visible on the left a missing pin ad one bent down (I think)

It's way too small for me to even try something there.
Could this be causing the problem?

  • HP LaserJet 600 M602 printer goes offline every night

    Hi,
I have a HP LaserJet 600 M602 CE991A printer on a wired network. I have quite a few other printers on the network as well and do not show me this kind of behavior.
But for some reason, this printer, from as soon as I bought it, goes offline every time from around 5.20-5.30pm to around 8.30pm. I have a ping tester running as I am trying to figure out what's going on and I got 100% drop every night for that time period.
I looked to see if there was a setting that puts this device to sleep or so but no, I cant find anything. I have tried with the energy setting sleep mode on or off, wake up events to trigger a wake up call to the printer but no luck.

I am out of options, in our other locations, we have sam printer but a CE993A models and they do not show this kind of behavior at all.
I am at a deadlock here.

    Hi @Halan ,
I see by your post that you aren't able to print when the laptop isn't in the same area as the printer. I would like to help you out today.
What is the distance of the printer and the Laptop when the printer goes offline?
Try these steps to see if it will resolve the issue.

  • HP LaserJet Pro 100 functioned printer M175nw cleaning every night

    I have a
HP LaserJet Pro 100 multifunctionele kleurenprinter M175nw. Runs fine in a wireless network.
The printer is used some times but also a week not at all. After 15 min the printer goes into sleep mode and after two hours or so the device switches off except the green standby light for receiving new wireless jobs.
Problem i have is that nearby every night the printer runs with a lot of noise, in the middle of the night. It looks like he is cleaning the drums or turning the cartridges or the drum. It SOUNDS like he is prepairing for printing but there is no job at all. After a few minutes the device stops and goes back to sleep. I am doiing it also than.
Is this a service property of this machine and can i switch it off? It takes energy and wakes me up!

    Hi @jeroegro,
I see that the printer is going into a cleaning mode in the evening and you would like to be able to turn this service off.
    I can help you today.
I couldn't find any settings through the printers control panel to turn this service off.
Either turn the printer off manually or you can set the printer to power off after so many hours, through the menus.
Go to Setup, System Setup menu, (wrench button) Energy Settings, Auto Power Down, set the time.
    Have a nice day!
    Thank You.

  • HT4528 Hello.  I recently upgraded my iPhone 4 to ios7.  Since the upgrade, my phone turns itself off at the same time every night, for about 30 minutes.  I have no idea why.  Any suggestions?

I recently upgrade to iOS 7, and since then, my iPhone turns off automatically at the same time every night for about 30.  Why does this happen, and what setting can I change to prevent it?

Is Do Not Disturb turned on? Do you see a quarter-moon icon up top in the status bar?

  • MacBook Pro turns itself on every night at 8:00 p.m. EDT

I am getting freaked out! I am a new Mac user, and my factory new MacBook Pro will turn itself on (a full start, boot up) every night at 8:00 p.m. This is a cold boot up. The computer is not in sleep mode. Additionally, I have not done any auto wake or sleep commands. I have seen this issue mentioned by a few other folk, but I do not see Apple providing a response. It is creepy and it needs to be fixed. HELP.

There is nothing in preferences I have set to cause the computer to start up. It does not seem to do when it is not plugged into the ac adapter. It appears to happen only when the computer is hooked up to ac. I can always tell it has turned itself on, because the glow from the latch starts. I cannot take the computer back because it is past 14 days, and Apple Tech Support, when I called them about this, was useless. Since no one has been able to answer it in the forum, I can only suspect there is something wrong with the computer. Everything else with the computer seems to be fine. I just don't want my hardware to be working when I don't want it to work, and I have concerns about security. I have taken the AirPort offline when I log off, but given the computer turns itself on, I do not take comfort in supposing by turning off the function, the MB has actually followed the command. What else is the computer doing contrary to what I want it to do?

  • Mac Mini/Mountain Lion sleeps but won't wake up (or crashes) every night.

    Hi everybody,
I have a mid-2010 mac mini server on which I recently installed Mountain Lion 10.8.2 (without server stuff).
Every night, it stops responding. The led is on but the display is off and it does not respond to mouse/keyboard. I even tried remote desktop.
The only solution is the power button...
    What I already did :
    - Reset Pram/Nvram
    - Reset SMC
I also took a look at the console and I found a message that is fired just before the machine stops responding.

    Any clue ?

Hi, I'm quite interested by your issue, because i get the exact same one.
On my mini (late 2012), system doesn t wake up from sleep if it has slept for more than 1 hour.
In fact I get the exact same message as you get in your console.
When I try and wake up system before the programmed maintenance wakeup, it wakes up fine.
But as soon as this programmed time has passed, it just won t wake up, I have to force switch it off via the power button and restart it.
I have nothing plugged on my mini except : AC - Thunderbolt display, and LAN connected to my freebox.
Do you still have the issue or is it ok now for you ?
I'll try in the upcoming days to plug the freebox in the thunderbolt display's adapter instead of the macmini's rj45.

  • BT Infinity Lack of Connection EVERY night!

We had BT Infinity installed on 10 April and the following day went on holiday for a week. When we returned we found we cannot load any web pages from around 8.30pm every night and the problem is still there in the morning.  We have one wired connection (to my PC) and one laptop connected wirelessly as well as two Android phones connected wirelessly.  We won't stream or upload anything, we just browse the web, social media etc.  I complained to BT and they have been no help whatsoever.  I was told I would get a call from them at certain times several times, and they never phoned during the agreed times, only at times when I was out at work or at appointments.  Today finally someone called and spoke to my partner, and he told us off for restarting the Home Hub 5 because "your line is shrinking" (what?  Sounds made up if anything ever did).  That was all he advised.  Problem is, if we don't restart the Home Hub, we cannot use the internet - I have tried leaving it on and if I do it just remains constantly unuseable.  When this happens, the lights all stay on, and the computer says I am connected, but if I try to load any web pages there is just a 'hang' and a blank screen.  Nothing happens.  The man my partner spoke to wouldn't even consider refunding us for us all the money we've paid for a non operational service, just told us to leave the router alone which means no internet at all!  Does anyone actually have any solutions about this?  I am looking for a new service provider as BT are absolutely appalling and I seriously cannot believe they said such stupid things on the phone as "Are you unplugging the router at night?" when I've had 'normal' broadband from them for years and years - BT do not treat your customers as if they are stupid!!
