Host Refused Connection

Over the last week, I haven't been able to log onto iChat on my home internet. Every time I try to, I get the message "The host refused the connection, please try again later"
I've tried 3-4 times a day, and read over the forums here which told me to change the port from 5190 to 443 which I did and it didn't change anything, I still can't log on.
They weird part is, is that if i go to my school, and log on with their wireless, it works perfectly!
I've been using meebo in the mean time but would really like to know how to fix this!

Hi,
Welcome to the    Discussions
In System Preferences > Network you can use the Locations tab to create settings that are different in different places.
You may find that at Present the Advanced Button > DNS Tab has no permanent DNS servers listed (Dark text) and is showing ones greyed out that it can read from the router/modem.
It can help if the DNS servers are relevant to the Internet Connection you have.
It should not however show you the School ones when you are connected at home or vice versa. (Unless you entered them yourself)
If you did have to Enter the School's one it may pay to set up two "Locations" and have the different DNS servers listed.

  • Host refused connection, try again later

What does this mean? I have been trying lots of things but nothing is working. When ever I click ichat this is the first thing it says "Host refused connection, try again later"

What router do you have ?
It is normally done by typing into a web browser at the URL bar the IP that the router shows to your Mac.
It often includes a User ID and Password to be entered into a pop up that come s next.
We send people to this site http://portforward.com/routers.htm
Clicking on your device and then iChat in the next page will take you to a page that will tell you the defaults for your device.
The last page will also go on to tell you how to do Port Forwarding
We don't suggest using this as a first choice. We suggesting looking for and set UPnP if you Device has it.

  • Aim host refuses connection

As soon as I restarted after latest security update, aim and ichat no longer connect. the aim host refuses connection. Any thoughts?

It's very strange that you should mention this problem, as I have had the exact same one only recently.
However my problem seems to be architecture independent and not dependent upon the OS version 10.4.7 or 10.4.8 that I'm using. Both my G4 PowerBook and my Intel Mac Pro are exhibiting the same inability to connect to AIM via Adium or iChat but randomly and infrequently. AOL's antiquated IM client still works, strangely enough.
Perhaps my problem is a different one, but my proposal is that yours could be related.
No firewall running on my system, though I suspect that my ISP or router (router less likely) have something to do with this funny little problem. Any thoughts are appreciated.

  • Getting "Host refused connection, try later" from AIM...

    ...anyone having this issue?
I finally solved my inability to use iChat AV with AIM on my iMac with Tiger...but now am having this AOL issue with refused connection in Leopard and iChat 3...
    Thx.

Thanks for that, it works for me too xD

  • 10G dbconsole:  A remote host refused an attempted connect operation.

We have 10.2 running on AIX. I previously had dbconole running fine, however, something was changed and now when I log into dbconsole I get the error "IOException in sending Request :: A remote host refused an attempted connect operation.". I can still administer database stuff (user, tablespaces) but any operation that tries to access the host fails. For instance I can't schedule a job nor change the operating system credentials. What's really wierd is that on the home page it shows database down, listener down, and agent failed. Obviously, the database and the listener are not down or I wouldn't even be able to get in.
    Help appreciated.

I am installing SMD agent 7.2 on managed system which is ABAP+JAVA 7.0. I Have successfully installed SMD agent 7.2 on Managemd system. Now, i need to configure its Introcope agent for JAVA system in sOlution manager. when i go to RCA->MAnaged system->setup wizard, it successfully configures it in further screens.
    However, wehn i go to RCA->MAnaged system->INtroscope agent and select the respective JAVA SID for which I installed sMD agent, it does not display the server node of jAVA for that system. Also when I check in the logs of sMG agent in the managed system, I get the below error;

Can anyone help me solving this issue?

    Hi Guilherme,
    Thanks for your reply.
I have checked in agent administration screen. The agent is successfully assigned. I only see a problem while solman talking to the managed system on P4 port. I believe I have to open or do some administration of this P4 port. But where I am not sure.
I mean while installed another SMD Agent on another J2EE server and it worked instantly!
    Can you help?

  • "The host refused the connection" error all of the sudden???

I was working with an iMac G5 2GHz with 1.5GB RAM and OSX.4.6 with iChatAV 3.1.4. I use an AEBS for my network but the iMac is plugged directly into the AEBS. I use Verizon FIOS. My internet connection has been flawless.
After using Drive Genius 1.2 to repair, repair permissions, then rebuild my internal hard drive (booted from external FW HD and ran app from there) I have been getting recurrent and random iChat messages that "the host refused the connection" and tells me to try later. I have an AIM account logged in that was previously working fine. About 1.5 years of iChatting with the account and NEVER received this message. Now I get it several times a day if I try to shut down and restart the program.
Just used Migration Assistant last night to transfer iMac G5 to my new iMac Intel (which is insanely fast, BTW, and I really like that! . I'm continuing to get this message over and over. I can connect one second, disconnect and try again, then get the message of refusal to connect again!?!? I tried deleting the Users>UserName>Library>Prefs>com.apple.ichat.AIM pref but did nothing to help.
Any suggestions on why this is happening and how to fix it?

    Hey Ralph,
Have you actually Quit iChat and restared it during
    any of this ?
Yes, I have quit ichat and restarted a few times. When it tries to automatically log in, it doesn't. When I use the menu or Apple + L or change my online status to available, it works about 85% of the time.
Have you restarted the computer ?
Yes, I had to when my machine had gone into sleep mode. Wouldn't reconnect to AOL server until i did restart.
So as far as you are aware the Modem is not doing
Port Forwarding to an IP (Hopefully your computer )
on your LAN for the iChat ports ?
I'm not exactly sure of everything you have asked but as I haven't changed any settings on my Modem since it was installed in November, I'm fairly certain it isn't Port Forwarding...BUT I'm not sure what that means. In other words, I haven't changed anything but my own computer and that has just been updates and altering energy saver mode, other working etc. I thought it had to do with the Energy Saving mode because I turned that off temporarily while I was working on something and it's the most recent variable change I can think of. I had no software updates since 5-17 before this weekend and that was a Security Update.
    Am I making sense?
I'm beginning to wonder if it's something with the AOL server....

  • A remote host refused an attempted connect operation

I have been tasked with putting together a demo of Adobe Interactive Forms on our development system, and I'm following the steps listed in the SAP How-To guide, "How To... Create Online and Offline Forms in Web Dynpro for Java."
The demo form (as described in the How-To) has been created and deployed from a NetWeaver 2004s to our Application Server 6.40 (with all the latest patches).  When run, however, I get a 500 Internal Error:
<b>java.net.ConnectException: A remote host refused an attempted connect operation.</b>
Our BASIS team has confirmed that ADS is configured correctly on the server, per SAP Note 944221.
Any suggestions on the cause and possible fixes would be greatly appreciated.

    -- Nick

    Hi Nick,
Can you verify the ADS connection using the web service test tool? Go to http://myhost:50000/, choose web services, choose the 1st one (Adobe Document Services?), choose test, don't enter any values (leave the default values) and choose test (or something very similar, I don't have access to a server right now to verify it). You should get a login screen where you need to login with "ADSUser". Finally you should see the request and response where the response status code must be "200 OK" (and the response content-type should not be text/html; that's when a logon screen html page is returned, e.g. if the password is expired).
If it fails somewhere, try it again using the FQHN, e.g. http://myhost.mydomain.com:50000/ (I think we had a similar issue once).
If the web service test doesn't work, there's definitely a problem with the ADS configuration. If the web service does work, check the connection settings in Visual Administrator <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/43/f3fcf604777062e10000000a1553f6/frameset.htm">Setting Up Basic Authentication in a Java Environment</a> (or the ABAP and/or SSL version of the same document).
    Kind regards,
    Sigiswald

    Jhep,
Have you changed the timezone settings on the database server? Check emdctl.trc and see what it says. In the meanwhile, (a) stop dbconsole service, (b) execute emctl resetTZ agent and (c) restart dbconsole service.

I have an Oracle 7.3.4 database running on AIX 4.3. Now the listener sometimes suddenly stops for no apparent reason or refuses connection requests to the database leading to
ORA-12203 TNS: unable to connect destination
errors even though on checking the status of the listener it indicates that it's still up.
Now does the SNMP setting affect the operation of the listener in any way. It's currently set to ON.
    Thanks all.

Yes I do. infact i have spent virtually the whole day stopping and starting the listener. Haven't left my desk at all.
Before it ran almost uninterrupted but now i have to constantly monitor it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
when i restart it, i have something like this
    cmsxd has i service handler(s)
even before i restart my Pro*C application cycle, the number of service handlers begins to rise and always hits a maximum of 13 after which it doesn't rise anymore. There is nothing happening as yet but it still rises. If a service handler is a db instance registered with a listener and i only have one db instance i.e cmsxd, why would i have 13 now?
I do not know what these service handlers or db instances are. The lsnrctl status command does not give a detailed breakdown of these service handlers.
when i type lsnrctl services i get the ff output
    Services Summary...
    cmsxd has 13 service handler(s)

I read from some forums that I need to edit somethings of which am not really sure cos i don't wanna mess with the database, I need help on what to.
    Thanks for help in advance.

Use a single listener. There is no need for multiple listeners 99.9999% of the time.
Have the listener bind the hostname as listening end-point - and not localhost.
Localhost only allows local processes to connect via TCP. Which is questionable in most environments. Typically you would run clients on other h/w platforms (or VMs) - and this will use the database server's public IPs.
Type hostname in the console to get the hostname of the server. If the network on that server is suspect (was not manually setup properly by someone knowing network basics), do not bother using the hostname. Use IP address +0.0.0.0+ instead.
Update the listener.ora file. The LISTENER entry should look something as follows:
    LISTENER =
            (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
                    (DESCRIPTION =
                            (ADDRESS_LIST =(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTERNAL)))
                            (ADDRESS_LIST =(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = <hostname-goes-here>)(PORT = 1521)))
)You can also simply (and safely) remove/rename the listener.ora file - and start the listener with sane defaults.
Next, use sqlplus (via the oracle o/s user) to logon as SYSDBA to the database. The database parameter of interest is LOCAL_LISTENER. It should be null (view it using the SQL*Plus command <i>show parameter</i>). If your listener port is 1521, then not a problem.
If it is not, you need to update/set this parameter with the appropriate port number via the ALTER SYSTEM command.
Once set/checked, manually instruct the database to register its services with the local listener, via the alter system register command in sqlplus.
Check and confirm that the listener has received and successfully serviced that registration request by typing lsnrctl services in the oracle o/s console.
PS. The reason for the error I think is that your are forcing the listener on localhost only - while the default/null local_listener parameter of the database instructs it to contact the listener on the default public IP address of that server. Which does not happen to be localhost IP 127.0.0.1.
