Host Target not discovered

Hi,
We have reinstalled the OEM agent in an existing host. However, when we monitor from GC UI console we do not find the host name under the list of targets in target hosts page.
We can see that the agent has been discovered in the target agents home page. The agent has discovered the targets in the target host box. We can find the list of hosts in the targets.xml file. However, none of the targets discovered by the agent is visible in the targets page in GC UI console, also emctl agent config listtargets , also shows the list of targets discovered by the agent on the target host.
Not sure why the targets that are being discovered by agent are not being displayed in GC UI console.
Regards,
Rup

By default, the Add Host Targets Wizard configures only the following types of plug-ins:
◦All discovery plug-ins that were configured with the OMS from where the Management Agent software is being deployed.
◦Oracle Home discovery plug-in
Oracle Home monitoring plug-in
By default, the host and the Management Agent get automatically added to the Enterprise Manager Cloud Control console for monitoring. None of the targets running on that host get automatically discovered and monitored.
To monitor the other targets, you need to add them to Enterprise Manager Cloud Control either using the Auto Discovery Results page, the Add Targets Manually page, or the discovery wizards offered for the targets you want to monitor.
For information about discovering targets in Enterprise Manager Cloud Control, refer to the chapter on adding targets in the Administrator's Guide: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24628_01/doc.121/e24473/toc.htm

  • SOA Management - BPEL PM Target not discovered

I am using OMS and Agent 10.2.0.3. The OMS is on AIX and the agent is on Solaris.
The solaris server has an Oracle BPEL PM running. However, this target is not discovered and does not show up in the OMS.
Does anyone have any experience with monitoring SOA components with GC? Any ideas?
I have opened an SR with Oracle Support, but after a couple weeks, I am not getting any help from them.
    Thanks again.

    Thanks for your feedback.
Do you mean under SETUP->MANAGEMENT PACK ACCESS ?
If so, I do not see the SOA Management pack listed even when I select "All Targets".
Please advise if this is the appropriate location to enable SOAM pack access.
    Thanks!

  • Agent Up and Running, uploading, but host not discovered

We recently rebooted one node in a two node RAC. When it came up we were having problems getting information in Enterprise manager. The agent comes up, uploads successfully and everything seem fine, but no updates in EM. We removed the host and all associated targets and tried reconfiguring and now EM cannot discover the host. It sees the agent, but not the host. What could have possibly gone wrong? This was all working fine before the reboot.
    Agent Version : 10.1.0.5.1

have you installed the agent in clustermode?
I can't tell you the reason why one agent has discovered the node completely and why the other hasnt't. Please compare the file target.xml (.../sysman/emd) from the fully discovered node with the the file target.xml of the other node. Do both contain the same amount of targets?
If not, you may edit this file on the node where the targets are missing (but be careful: you have ASM1 on node#1 and ASM2 on node #2).
And you certainly have to replace the hostname from node #1 with host-name of node #2. But before editing this file please shutdown the
agent and restart them afterwards. I know that this way is not supported or recommended by Oracle - but I have done that before and it worked
    fine.
If you want to figure out why the targets on one node haven't been discovered please check the logfiles under .../sysman/log. Maybe you
find a reason. Any you could try "emctl stop agent", "emctl clearstate agent" and "emctl start agent"...

  • Oem auto discovery does not discover

Hello, DBAers; RHEL 5 x64, Oracle Enterprise Manager 12.1.0.3 - trying to discover an unmanaged host using auto discovery and following the instructions spelled out here
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24628_01/doc.121/e24473/discovery.htm#EMADM13119
and the auto discovery is not discovering.
I can "ssh <usrname>@<hostname>" and connect to the unmanaged target from the machine running the management server and ping the target server from same, so it does not appear to be a firewall issue.  But OEM cannot see it through auto-discovery.  Do any of you have any thoughts?
    Humbly,

To be able to run auto-discovery,
the Sudo Privilege Delegation must be set on the Management Agent host that will perform the scan. The named credential that will be used must be configured to run as root.
Because it used nmap (port scanner). Have you checked that sudo privilege delegation is set?

  • Database is not discovered.

I've added 2 new database targets in Grid Control. One of the targets is used as primary database and the other one is physical standby. Data guard configuration is set manually and is working well. However when i click "Verify Configuration" in Grid Control i get the error "Database is not discovered". Also, performance overview is reporting this error "Unable to obtain Agent location for target <my target name>. You may not currently be logged in."
Any idea why is this happening?

I solved my problem. The data guard from OEM now dicovers both databases. I'm not sure what caused the problem, but i think it was the naming of databases inside dataguard broker and OEM. Because my dataguard configuration was done through SQL and command line broker.
What i did now was, removed standby database from broker configuration in OEM, and added it again. Performed switchover and did the same thing again with other database. This way broker database configuration got new property that can be seen with "show database" command inside broker command line. Property name is "OEM Name:", and it wasn't there before i added standby database through OEM.
    I hope this helps.

  • 12c change host target name / ip address without reinstalling agent

Is there a way, to change the configuration?
Details: Host target was added manually, agent was deployed successfully, the host name is an IP address, dns is not working here.
Now the IP address was changed, I can not add a new host using the new address, because em says the agent base directory is not empty...
I just want to add a new host without removing the previous agent installation.
Or even simpler, change the configuration of the existing host (that is name displayed in EM and host IP address).
I am somewhat confused, it seems to be not possible, or I cannot see it after searching quite some time through the different menus and the documentation.
    Any hint, please?

We have tested steps to re-point an existing agent to a new OMS without requiring re-push of the agent binaries. The same steps should work for what you are trying at achieve, although note you will have to remove the original targets, so target history will be lost. The only piece this avoids is re-push of the agent binaries. The steps are:
    1. Shut down the running 12c agent with the below command:
    $AGENT_INSTANCE_HOME/bin/emctl stop agent
    2. Remove the agent instance home:
    rm -rf $AGENT_INSTANCE_HOME
    3. Manually remove the targets monitored by the agent in the EM console.
    4. Create a new instance home pointing to the new oms:
    $AGENT_BASE_DIR/core/12.1.0.1.0/sysman/install/agentDeploy.sh
    AGENT_BASE_DIR=<location of the agent base dir> OMS_HOST=<oms hostname>
    EM_UPLOAD_PORT=<http/https upload port>
    @ AGENT_REGISTRATION_PASSWORD=<registration password>
AGENT_INSTANCE_HOME=<absolute path where the instance home has to be created>
    -configOnly
We will get these steps added to the official documentation. Let us know if you run into difficulties.
    Thanks, Mark.

  • Host Configuration not found error in database control

I have freshly installed Oracle DB 11g and a starter database.
Then i went to emctl (database control), at the home tab, I noticed the status is up (Green up arrow icon) but the "Instance Name", "Version", "Up Until" entries have the value "unknown"
And then when i Click on the "view all properties link", I noticed that the ORACLE_HOME entry has a warning icon after the entry. Then when you click on the ORACLE_HOME entry link, I get a page saying
Host Configuration not found. Check to see if the target exists.Whats happening? Did I miss something in my installation?

  • Add host target after deleting it in OEM 12c

I am running OEM 12.1.0.3.  I have deleted a host target on the console and now I want to add it back.  If I go to "Add Target" -> "Add Target Manually" -> "Add Host Target", it will prompt for installation of agent on that host.  I do not want to go through that process since agent is already installed and running on the host.  I also tried "auto discovery result" but the host isn't listed there even though the agent is a managed target in OEM.  Is there a easy way to add the host back?  Thanks.

    Hi Team,
You can follow the below steps to re-add the host target
    1. Start the agent by issuing following command:
    <AGENT_INSTANCE_HOME>/bin/emctl start agent
    2. Issue following command:
    <AGENT_INSTANCE_HOME>/bin/emctl config agent addinternaltargets
    3. Secure the agent by issuing following command:
    <AGENT_INSTANCE_HOME>/bin/emctl secure agent
    4. Do the following steps to show the status of host and agent as up:
    <AGENT_INSTANCE_HOME>/bin/emctl stop agent
    <AGENT_INSTANCE_HOME>/bin/emctl clearstate agent
    <AGENT_INSTANCE_HOME>/bin/emctl start agent
Once done, the host and agent status would be shown as up.
    5. Do a resync of agent as per below steps
    1. Login to 12C console
    2. Navigate to Setup --> Manage Cloud Control --> Agents (for 12.1.0.2 OEM)
Navigate to Setup --> Agents (for 12.1.0.1 OEM)
    3. Click on the problematic agent
    4. Click on drop down menu "Agent" and Choose "Resynchronization" in the menu list.
    5. Choose the option to "Unblock agent on successful completion of agent resynchronization." and Click on Continue
    6. The resynchronization operation is submitted as a job
    7. Check the job's status of the resynchronization operation by clicking on the job name's link.

  • Host target availability

Can someone tell me how can I send notification only for host target and not for agent?
I mean that when a ping (icmp) to the host is unavailable, a notification would be sent.
    Thanks,
    Or.

Yes although both Agent and Host rule the same Management Agent ping, they use two notification rules. i.e Oracle OEM checks hosts and agent at the same time and sends you two messages one for host notification and the second for agent notification.
If a customer wants to be notified when the host is physically down, Oracle will still run and generate two alerts but all you do is disable it from sending the agent notification out on the host you want to in one of two ways.
Go to Notification Rules for “Agent Unreachable” as per above, click on Edit and select Apply rule to specified agent targets, and select all targets except the target owned by customers that do not want to be notified.
    Or
Go to Setup, Agents, click on the host you want to disable agent notification, click on Metric and Policy Settings, and it will show agent metric for that host, you will see a metric called status (and collection schedule called based on management Agent), you can have this disabled. I have done this but it is not recommended, and you can only disable it for the host via sql. I have a script for this if you want.

It means what it says. Your agents are no longer providing information to the oms, so info for any metrics you have set is no longer being collected.
Check the agent logs. An example as to why this could happen is the agent has run out of space and it disables collections to save blowing the file system

  • SCOM does not discover Virtual HP SIM Server

I am running SCOM 2012 R2 with the latest HP MPs installed. They are working fine and monitoring hardware, HP devices, etc. We have a SIM server that is a Virtual Server.
The MPs do not discover our SIM server as a "SIM" server. I started investigating and noticed that the SIM server discovery is targeting "HP ProLiant server". I checked the HP ProLiant Server Discovery, and it is looking for a computer
model that contains "proliant." Well, this is a VM, so the model does not contain proliant. Therefore the SIM discovery never triggers on the server.
Has anyone else seen this issue and do you know how to resolve?
    Brody Kilpatrick

I do not have any specific experience with this management pack but have run into a similar issue in the past and used the below workaround.
My case was similar in that the End Class I wanted to target wasn't being found because an intermediate (HP ProLiant server in your case) was missing.  To solve the issue I created a separate class with my own discovery, that discovered the intermediate
    class.
From there out everything worked correctly,
Not a perfect answer but might be of help.

  • Thunderbolt display: devices not discovered after using Mini DisplayPort–to–VGA adapter

I have an interested problem related to using my MacBook Air in clamshell (closed) mode, connected to a Thunderbolt display. The problem appears to be related to moving my MacBook air between my office and my home.
At the office, I use the MacBook Air with an external VGA display, connected via the Mini DisplayPort–to–VGA adapter. At home, I use the MacBook Air together with a Thunderbolt display. An Apple USB keyboard is also connected to the display.
    Mini DisplayPort–to–VGA adapter implicated
The following sequence of events causes the problem to occur:
    Use the MacBook air (open) together with a VGA display, connected via a Mini DisplayPort–to–VGA adapter (depicted at right);
Put the MacBook Air to sleep by closing the lid, and disconnect the Mini DisplayPort–to–VGA adapter (I am not sure if the order of these two steps is significant—I usually perform them almost simultaneously when packing up my MacBook Air and getting ready to leave the office); and
With the MacBook Air still closed, connect it to a Thunderbolt display with a connected USB keyboard.
At this point, I would expect to be able to wake up the MacBook Air by tapping on the space bar of the keyboard. However, what I have observed is that this does not wake the MacBook Air.
I can wake the MacBook however by moving or clicking a Bluetooth mouse that is paired with the MacBook Air.
At this point, although the MacBook Air is awake, and the display is working, the USB keyboard connected to the display still does not work. This is the problem, in a nutshell.
Unplugging the USB keyboard from the display, and plugging it back in causes the MacBook Air properly to identify the keyboard.
I used Apple System Profiler to save a list of identified devices at two points in time:
Immediately after waking the MacBook Air by moving the Bluetooth mouse (at which point the USB keyboard was not working); and
After unplugging and plugging in again the USB keyboard (at which point the USB keyboard worked fine).
Many devices are enumerated in the second list that are missing from the first. For example:
Keyboard Hub@fe110000  <class IOUSBHubDevice, id 0x1000378ef, !registered, !matched, inactive, busy 3 (37993 ms), retain 6>
AppleUSBHub  <class AppleUSBHub, id 0x1000378f2, !registered, !matched, inactive, busy 1 (37987 ms), retain 6>
    IOUSBInterface@0  <class IOUSBInterface, id 0x1000378f4, !registered, !matched, inactive, busy 1 (37986 ms), retain 6>
Keyboard Hub@fe110000  <class IOUSBHubDevice, id 0x1000378f6, registered, matched, active, busy 0 (7 ms), retain 10>
AppleUSBHub  <class AppleUSBHub, id 0x1000378f9, registered, matched, active, busy 0 (1 ms), retain 9>
    IOUSBInterface@0  <class IOUSBInterface, id 0x1000378fb, !registered, !matched, active, busy 0, retain 7>
Apple Keyboard@fe112000  <class IOUSBDevice, id 0x1000378fd, registered, matched, active, busy 0 (112 ms), retain 11>
    and many child devices…
Using the Mini DisplayPort–to–VGA adapter appears to be a necessary step to causing this problem to occur. If I merely disconnect the MacBook Air from the display, let it go to sleep, and then reconnect it again, the USB keyboard will work immediately and can be used to wake the computer from sleep.
Some devices are discovered even when the computer is in sleep mode. This is how it should work.
The problem appears to be that when a Mini DisplayPort–to–VGA adapter has been used since the last time the computer was connected to a Thunderbolt display, the MacBook air does not discover devices completely when it is again connected to the Thunderbolt display while in sleep mode.
Can anyone else reproduce this problem?

    Hi glraczon.support,
It sounds like the external display you are using (projector) operates at a smaller resolution than your MacBook Pro. You may want to configure the display preferences in System Preferences for the external projector.
Here is an article that may help you with that process:
