Hosted Exchange Distribution groups i am part of
Hello,
I have setup a Hosted Exchange environment, i am filtering on ExtensionAttribute1 between company's.
Now when i create a Distribution group with ExtensionAttribute1 filled in this is still displayed when a users goes to OWA --> Options --> Groups When the user clicks on the butten to let him decide where to be a member of he will see all Distribution
Groups there are, regarding what i set in ExtensionAttribute1, so i have to hide all my Distribution Groups.
The only workaround is to remove the group option from OWA as the Address book Policies (ABP), that I assume you setup, don't effect that view.
ABP's don’t apply to the Get-Group cmdlets. Therefore, any user or process that is able to run Get-Group will see all members of any group
they have access to.
We recommend that you modify the group management settings of the OWA Options so users can’t use Outlook Web App to manage groups. To prevent users from using OWA Options to manage groups,
exclude the users from the MyDistributionGroupMembership RBAC role. For details, see MyDistributionGroupMembership role.

Using PowerShell to do a recursive lookup of members of a Exchange Distribution Group
I am trying to get the members (DisplayName, PrimarySMTPAddress) of several Exchange distribution groups. Using Get-DistributionGroupMember gets me the first level of information, but in many cases there are nested distibution groups. How can I get the
members of each nested group?Paul ArbogastPaul
Change lines 66 and 67 to
$obj | Add-Member -membertype noteproperty -Name GroupMember -Value $member.DisplayName
$obj | Add-Member -MemberType noteproperty -Name EmailAddress -Value $member.PrimarySMTPAddress
Optionally, change 90 to
$obj | Add-Member -MemberType noteproperty -Name EmailAddress -Value $LostGroup

The question is if I want to update "ownership memeber" (not group memeber) and "membership approval" attribute, how can I do without EMC ?

How to get Exchange Distribution Groups in Mail on iPad / iPad 2
Hello...
Maybe I'm missing something, but for some reason, the distribution groups I create for myself in Exchange 2010 ( personal mailbox ) are NOT showing in Mail on my iPad. Is there something that I need to do in order for them to sync?
I appreciate any help someone can give!just start started using Exchange Online and also discovered this. Shared mailboxes and distribution group doesn't work on iOS devices and also OSX Mail.App, unfortunatly.

Exchange Distribution Groups not updating in Active Directory
Hi all,
I'm not sure if this is intended behaviour or not, but any distribution group we create in Exchange ECP does not update in Active Directory Users and Computers. Any particular reason why?
For example, we have a user group called "Managers" and we've recently created a new group called Area Managers. We've since moved some people out of Managers and put them in Area Managers, however in Active Directory all we see is the Managers
group with all the old managers in there. The OU for the Area Managers group has been set correctly.

@WindowsZachHi,
Please run the following command to confirm the members of two groups.
Get-DistributionGroupMember -Identity Area Managers
Get-DistributionGroupMember -Identity Managers
I also suggest to remove the member from “Managers” in AD then check the members of “Managers” in EAC to check this problem.
Best Regards.

VMO and message sent to exchange distribution group
Unity Connection 8.6 with VMO 8.6.7
So with the registry setting voicemailupload_play = 1 --- old VM's or emails with WAV attachments will play as a VM
thru the phone but not light up the MWI.
However, if I send a VM using VMO from Outlook to a distribution group on exchange...all the users receive the email (with the WAV)
and VMO controls but they can't play it back via the phone (the requested voice message is no longer available)? Yet the WAV file is
attached right to the message. Playback from VMO to computer works fine.
Is there a way to easily have this playback through the phone given this scenario? Seems like VMO should be able to handle this.
I'd love to have the MWI light up as well, but I'd settle for playback.Hi,
We have a distribution group set up for external's to email a couple of internal's, however all the emails that have been sent to the group have not been going into the distribution group members inbox.
I have looked at the exchange message tracking and can see a number of emails sent to the group.
Is there a way to retrieve these emails so they can be sent to the groups members?
Thanks.

my company is currently using exchange 2010. I am currently attempting to create a distribution group for multiple employees who work in the same department, and need to collectively respond to emails sent to one mailbox. However, these employees don't
need a personal email. How can I create a distribution group and add members without those members having a personal email account in the exchange serverYou don't need a distribution group - you need a mailbox that you grant all these users access to. Technically, you can do this, but it's going to be tricky, and I've never done it myself. Just thinking it through, you would:
Create a security group for the team
Create a shared mailbox for the team (New-Mailbox -Shared etc ...)
Open the account properties in a tool like ADSIEdit
Click the Security tab on the properties page and click the
Advanced button
Click the Add button, and add the group
On the Permission Entry page, scroll down to the bottom and select Send as
and Receive as
That should give the team the rights they need in the mailbox. To log into the mailbox in Outlook, they will do the following:
Open Outlook
On the Add Account screen, select Manually configure etc and click
Next
Select Microsoft Exchange etc and click Next
They will need to type the server name and their mailbox name, then they can click
Next
If they get a logon dialog, they put in their own username and password, then click
OK
That should get them what they need. I do not know if this is supported by Microsoft, though, so you may wish to hear from a Microsoft person for more information. -

I recall that when I would reply to an email that was sent to a distribution group that I belonged too, it would not send a copy of the email to myself as well. Does anyone happen to know what this feature was called and does anyone know why or how
to fix this?
Thank you!I dont think it was called anything, but the only way to prevent that is to create a rule ( Outlook) that will delete the messages sent to that DL in your inbox.

Add exchange distribution groups to lync 2013
Hi,
Does anybody kows how to push directly exchange email distribtution list in to lync2013. ( only selected list that contains country wise employee )
Thanks & Regards,
Bhautik ShahHi,
You can add Exchange email distribution list into Lync 2013 Contact Card as Tab of “Membership”.
If Lync server have integration with Exchange server, you can change the value of TurnOffMemberOfTab to “0” with the following path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\common\contactcard if you use Outlook 2010.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\15.0\common\contactcard if you use Outlook 2013.
You can refer to the link below, it is for Lync server 2010 but similar for Lync server 2013:

Warning message is on Exchange Distribution Group.
Please suggest.Hi,
As Amit suggested, please check if the permission of the problematic distribution group is right. If everything is ok and the issue persists, please try to restart the Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology service and check the result.
Hope it helps.

Cannot create to distribution group for a tenant on hosted exchange 2010
hi everyone,
I have installed a hosting exchange 2010 than created a tenant1 and users in this tenant1.
I would like to create a distribution group named "dist group1" for tenant1 for exp: [email protected]
but while I was trying, I got following the errors;
[PS] C:\Windows\system32>New-DistributionGroup -name "dist group1" -Alias distgroup1 -PrimarySmtpAddress "[email protected]" -DisplayName "distgroup1" -Organization tenant1 -ManagedBy "onder.cloud/Microsoft Exchange
Hosted
Organizations/tenant1/tenant1 Admin"
Name DisplayName GroupType PrimarySmtpAddress
dist group1 distgroup1 Universal [email protected]
[PS] C:\Windows\system32>Get-DistributionGroup
[PS] C:\Windows\system32>Enable-DistributionGroup "distgroup1"
The operation couldn't be performed because object 'distgroup1' couldn't be found on 'clouddc01.onder.cloud'.
+ CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (0:Int32) [Enable-DistributionGroup], ManagementObjectNotFoundException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : 11C76BCC,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.RecipientTasks.EnableDistributionGroup
please help me,Hi,
In order to narrow down the cause, I’d like to recommend you can try the following troubledhooting:
1. Check if the distribution group exists in ADUC on your DC server. And you can refer to the following path:
DC>ADUC>Domain.com>users
2. Create another distribution group to have a test.
I refer to the following article to create a new distribution group, and it works well:

Dynamic Distribution Group on HOSTED exchange 2010 not setting up properly
Hi all,
We have a hosted exchange 2010, which prevents us from using the EMC.
I want to create a simple dynamic distribution group for every staff member in the organization but am facing a problem. I use the following command:
New-DynamicDistributionGroup -Organization "organizationname" -IncludedRecipients MailboxUsers -Name "Office"
This appears to work according to shell. In addition,
Get-DynamicDistributionGroup -Organization "organizationname"
DOES come up with "office" as a listing (though the "Managed by" field is empty. Should I care?)
However:
sending to that address creates a bounce-back "no such email address"
a look in AD shows that the object has been created somewhat incorrectly
It appears that while a group is nominatively created no email address is created attached to it (which should be [email protected]).
I am by no means a shell expert and have been bumping my head for a few days now, any suggestion would be great!
Thanks in advance,
RodolpheHey, thanks for your reply Willard.
Everything looks correct:
name: Office
Alias: Office
PrimarySmtpAddress: [email protected]
EmailAddressPolicyEnabled: False
The bounceback now is quoting a permissions issue
#< #5.7.1 smtp;550 5.7.1 RESOLVER.RST.AuthRequired; authentication required> #SMTP#
This actually gives me the clues to resolve:
When creating a distribution group through the EMC, by default it is "closed" so only members of that DDL can send to it. I have tested this by sending to it from an internal address and it does go through.
Set-DynamicDistributionGroup <name> -RequireSenderAuthenticationEnabled $False
resolves the issue to allow external senders.
Thanks for your help Willard, your question was enough to get me going in the right direction. Hopefully some other newbie will find this useful in the future. -
Distribution group not showing up in Exchange 2007 GAL
Hello,
We have AD running on a 2003 R2 SP2 server
We have Exchange 2007 running on a 2003 R2 SP2 server on the same domain.
I put a distribution group (all staff) on the active directory server. I can e-mail to [email protected] and it goes to everyone I put in that group no problem. However if I do check name, allstaff isn't listed, I have to go to contacts and drop down to find that distribution group (under groups). How do I get it into the global address list so it shows for anyone pressing alt K or checkname along with other members of our domain - I don't want them to have to drop down under the contacts item in outlook to go to groups to find it.
ThanksThanks - I don't think the regen of the address book is really the key but modifying the distribution group in AD after you create it in EMC. I had regened the OAB a few times since last friday but the allstaff was only available under groups in outlook. Maintenance runs every morning at 5AM and that didn't update the group into lookup in outlook. It seems to be the broken AD interface between exchange 2007 and windows 2003. You used to be able to see all exchange data for a user or group in AD however now part of it is in Exchange 2007 Management console and some is in AD users and computers.
THis is just one more item in my opinion along with the lack of gui control in exchange 2007 that displays the half baked creation that is Exchange 2007. Is the next version of WIndows Server going to require all DOS commands like Exchange 2007 does to do any AD work? Gussy it up with a fancy name like "POWERSHELL" but it is just another way of saying DOS to me. Pretty sure PCs became more popular with GUI interfaces. I used to be an MS FAN (not the same as fanboy who thinks they can do no wrong) but things at MS have taken a SERIOUS turn down hill as of late
Vista - incredibly bad performance - no such issue with WIndows 95, 98, 2000, XP - and then they claimed it was drivers, then it was third party apps such as AV or firewalls - 5 months later they finally admit as people set up boxes with all the extras turned off with identical hardware and the latest drivers - hmm XP blows the doors off vista for file copy performance - can't imagine why sales suck for business clients and Dell had to start selling XP again.
BTW - I tried their patch for performance - it actually decreased disk to disk performance on the same box while increasing performance by 20% in network copys however since network performance is up to 500% slower than XP that 20% increase doesn't really help enough to offset internal performance slow downs - here is a tip MS - strip out the DRM scanning and you'll get your performance back.
Exchange 2007 - ESM worked great in 2003, 2000. 2007 we bring you POWERSHELL known 20 years ago as DOS. Much easier to write scripts like - ## AutoDisco for EWS
[array]$SCPCurrent = Get-ClientAccessServer
$autodiscoResponse = "<Autodiscover xmlns=`"http://schemas.microsoft.com/exchange/autodiscover/outlook/requestschema/2006`">"
`
+ " <Request>"`
+ " <EMailAddress>" + $siSIDToSearch.WindowsEmailAddress + "</EMailAddress>"`
+ " <AcceptableResponseSchema>http://schemas.microsoft.com/exchange/autodiscover/outlook/responseschema/2006a</AcceptableResponseSchema>"`
+ " </Request>"`
+ "</Autodiscover>"
$strRootURI = $SCPCurrent[0].AutoDiscoverServiceInternalUri.absoluteuri
$WDRequest = [System.Net.WebRequest]::Create($strRootURI)
$WDRequest.ContentType = "text/xml"
$WDRequest.Headers.Add("Translate", "F")
$WDRequest.Method = "Post"
$WDRequest.UseDefaultCredentials = $True
$bytes = [System.Text.Encoding]::UTF8.GetBytes($autodiscoResponse)
$WDRequest.ContentLength = $bytes.Length
$RequestStream = $WDRequest.GetRequestStream()
$RequestStream.Write($bytes, 0, $bytes.Length)
$RequestStream.Close()
$WDResponse = $WDRequest.GetResponse()
$ResponseStream = $WDResponse.GetResponseStream()
$ResponseXmlDoc = new-object System.Xml.XmlDocument
$ResponseXmlDoc.Load($ResponseStream)
$EWSNodes = @($ResponseXmlDoc.getElementsByTagName("ASUrl"))
if ($EWSNodes.length -ne 0){
$ewsURL = $EWSNodes[0].'#text'
than just clickin in Exchange System Manager and going to mailbox management like you had to in 2003. Whew glad that trudgery is gone! In just 20 lines I can do what I was forced to do in a couple of mouse clicks in the old version - happy days are finally here.
WM6 - the BT stack was horrible in PPC2003, WM5 it was still bad but we've made it intolerable in WM6 - and we've made sure you can't get in touch with anyone at MS to point out these issues.
Office 2007 - Gone are all those customizable menus that made your job easy - we've locked them down because we didn't have enough time to fix them after we scrapped our original ribbons interface - we tell you they are locked for security reasons but we'll bring it back as a new feature in the next version of Office.
Thanks for letting me dump on the *** coming from MS these days - if their surveys actually let you give open feedback it would be great but their surveys about products are more like -
Would you like to give feedback about VIsta?
Question 1 -
Do you think Vista is
a more colorful
b more intuitive
c more visually stimulating
Question 2
Do you think the menu bar
a Has better icons
b Has better fonts
c Looks more user friendly
A real question about my Vista experience would be
Question 1
What did you think was better about Vista
Question 2
What did you think needs fixing in Vista
Question 3
Any additional comments
MS is determined not to let in any info that might delay releases or improve their products. -
