Hosted Exchange/Office 365/Google Apps

I have 50 users on a onsite exchange 2010 server. It is time for new hardware and I am suggesting to the client that we move to a hosted solution. We are 100% outlook/word/excel. Love outlook. Our current outlook version is 2007. Time for an upgrade for sure. Few questions.Backups with a hosted solution. Do you just use the archiving/legal hold/vaulting service? I love Google Apps. If my users only use exchange for Outlook email and calendars, do you think i could get away with doing Google Apps instead of Exchange/office365?If I go Google Apps, in terms of support I am probably screwed with teaching/forcing them to use Google Docs? I know google an do 90% of what word/excel can do but teaching an old dog new tricks = pain in the butt. When a user leaves, but I want to keep the email in the account. Do I just download the PST to my...

Most people don't bother with the Wi-Fi router -- it's typically set up by the service provider or IT guy and it remains in that state for its usable life. However, you can fix many issues like low coverage, add features to your Wi-Fi setup and stop people from stealing your Wi-Fi quite easily. We show you how.Get the router placement right
If you have trouble with the Wi-Fi coverage in your home, it is most likely because of where the router is kept. The range of a typical home router is around 100 feet.
Ideally, you should place your Wi-Fi router in a central location, away from walls, mirrors and other electrical equipment. The router signal is omnidirectional -- it travels in every direction, so placing it centrally would increase the coverage throughout your home.
Plus, make sure that your router is placed in a high position as the...

  • Not able to debug Provider Hosted App in local (Deployed in Azure and Hosted in Office 365)

I have Provider Hosted App - Deployed in Azure and Hosted in Office 365.
Deployed successfully on azure after attaching publishing profile of azure.
Now I wish to debug app in local?

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you want to debug SharePoint provider hosted app in local.
Per the previous thread, to debug SharePoint provider hosted app in local, we should configure S2S authentication.
You can follow the article below to build the high trust app, then you can debug the app locally.

  • Can I use Interop.Excel in Office 365 web app development

    Hi,
I want to develop a app for office 365 web. I know javascript api is available for that purpose but the problem is, it is limited to some functionality only. I want to manipulate excel sheets and ranges so will Interop assembly work ?
    Thanks

    Hi Maulik,
    >>Can I use Interop.Excel in Office 365 web app development <<
No, the Office PIAs is used to interact with Office Client which developet with COM technology. The Office online is different with Office client, it is an service and exposed with HTML.

Did javascript mean JavaScript API for Office? If you have any feedback about apps for Office, you can submit it from link below:

    Hi All,
I developed an app(test.app) in office 365 SharePoint Online. When I deployed it in another office 365 SharePoint site I got the error "The

This site shows how to create new client ID, but I need to deploy test.app more than 100 Site... So how to deploy this app without creating Client ID?

  • Office 365 ProPlus App-V 5.0 Package installs Lync, Outlook, Infopath and Onenote even though they are not selected for publishing

I have created an App-V 5.0 Package for Office 365 ProPlus using the documentation provided here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219422.aspx
I am able to load the App-V Package into my SCCM 2012 SP1 environment and deploy the package to a test machine
Within SCCM, I have configured the deployment type to only select a couple of applications.  Notice that Lync, Outlook, Infopath and Onenote are not selected.
    http://i.imgur.com/1eMxUlY.jpg
For my deployment type, I only selected Word, Excel and Powerpoint.  Looking at my test machine, those 3 applications now show up in my start screen.
    http://i.imgur.com/amZmxAT.jpg
I don't see any of the other Office applications be default on my start screen, so I would think all looks good.  If I type another Office application, lets say access at the start screen I get, "No apps match your search."
    http://i.imgur.com/fxbWEvb.jpg
But if I type Lync, Outlook, Infopath or Onenote, it shows me that those applications are available, and I can launch them as an App-V application just as I could Excel, Word or Powerpoint, the applications that I wanted to have available.
This is not what I was expecting when I went through the trouble to create an App-V package.  It looks like almost all of the apps become available on my client machine, all App-V is doing is making the application button in the start screen a little
    harder to find.
What is interesting is that for the applications I did want published, I can search for them by just entering a few letters of the application name, and they show up with the 2013 version label, see below for an example search for Word.
    http://i.imgur.com/0LeS05z.jpg
For the applications that I did not publish but still show up on my client, I have to type in the full name of the application for the launch button to come up.  For example, I can't type lyn and expect to see Lync, but if i type lync I will get an
option to launch the application.  The same goes for Outlook, Infopath and Onenote, and when you do type in the full namke of the app, it doesn't show the version number like Word does as Word 2013, it just shows Lync, or Outlook, or Infopath, or
    Onenote.
    http://i.imgur.com/QV1afuc.jpg
    vs
    http://i.imgur.com/PxgSmUc.jpg
Can anyone from Microsoft confirm that this is expected behavior.  If this is to be expected this is pretty disappointing, because a main point of the App-V package is it is the only way to limit which applications are deployed via Office 365 ProPlus
but from what I can tell, it really isn't limiting anything beyond the start screen for most cases.

So it looks like the config xml files are the best option
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/office_resource_kit/archive/2013/12/02/announcing-app-v-5-0-sp2-support-for-office-2013-volume-licensing-editions.aspx
You can now use the Deployment Configuration file to configure the Office installation. One question I often get is, “How do I disable msaccess.exe or infopath.exe from an Office install if I am not using the MSI package?” This can be done by modifying the
Deployment Configuration file in App-V with entries like the following:
    <Application Id="[(AppVPackageRoot}]\office15\MSACCESS.EXE" Enabled="false">
      <VisualElements>
        <Name>Access 2013</Name>
        <Icon />
        <Description />
      </VisualElements>
    </Application>
That will prevent App-V from publishing msaccess.exe on the system and/or you can remove any undesired application shortcuts from publishing on the targeted computer using the shortcuts properties by deleting or commenting them out. Once you’ve configured your
Deployment and User Configuration files, you’ll have everything you need to import the packages into your App-V environment to start testing.

  • Subscription and volume licensed Office 365 C2R App-V packages on the same computer

I'm interested if anyone has come across a similar scenario to what we have at the organisation I am currently working for. The organisation has signed up for an E3 subscription to Office 365, however would like to continue to using their volume licenses
of Visio and Project 2013 (at least until new versions are released at which point they'll likely move to the same subscription model).
Using the Office Deployment Tool, I've created App-V 5.0 SP2 packages for
    a. "O365ProPlusRetail"
    b. "ProjectProVolume" and "VisioProVolume"
Both App-V packages ignore any exclusion rules in the configuration.xml file I've defined. This is expected and I can control which applications are published using Config Mgr 2012 R2. Both packages deploy and run as I would expect.
The issue I specifically have is that if I publish both App-V packages (using different package ID's) to the same PC with modified DeploymentConfig.xml files:
    a. "O365ProPlusRetail" package only enables Word, Outlook and Excel (subscription licensing)
    b. "ProjectProVolume/VisioProVolume" package only enables Visio and Project (volume licensed)
it appears as though the Word, Excel and Outlook from (b) are utilised instead of from (a) even though they are specifically disabled. This means that Word, Excel and Outlook activate to our local KMS server, rather than using the user credentials as we would
    prefer.
To confirm I can see that package (a) is already running when I run the following command: Get-AppvClientPackage | select Name, InUse, InUseByCurrentUser
    Name
    InUse                                InUseByCurrentUser

    True
    Microsoft Office 15 VisioProVolume_ProPlusVolu...
    False
    False
If I then open Word (which should only be enabled in the first package), I see that the second package is now in use
    Name
    InUse                                InUseByCurrentUser

    Microsoft Office 15 VisioProVolume_ProPlusVolu...
    True

I've also confirmed that all the applications (besides Visio and Project) are disabled in the second package:

I can't seem to get the office web app to work right on my Sony Tablet Z, when I log into my skydive and try to start a new doc or execl sheet it just takes me to a blank page, I've tried Chrome, Firebox and the Dolphin browsers and all do the same thing.
On my desktop no issues start a new file and all the office menus show up. (I have a office 365 subscription. But have not yet installed office on computer)
Has anyone found a way to get the Microsoft web apps to work on the sony  tablet?

  • Exchange / Office 365 / windows 7 / Windows Security

I am receiving almost every 2 minutes or so a message from WINDOWS SECURITY asking me for the password of my exchange email account. how can I dis-activate this?

    Hi,
Based on my research, here are some troubleshooting methods you can refer to:
    1. Repair your Outlook profile:

  • Office 365 ProPlus - App-V: Lync wont autostart

    Hi,
As the title suggests I have an issue with Lync 2013. Office 2013 is an App-V package pushed from SCCM, when you select the "automatically start Lync when I log onto windows" box nothing happens. I have checked the registry and the correct key
isn't written, If I manually add the key, Lync starts on logon.
I'm looking for some pointers on root cause of the issue and any fixes.
    Thanks
    Bobby
I should add, this is Windows 8.1

    Hi Bobby:
Have you checked the Group Policy, see if:
Administrative Template/System/Logon/Do not process the legacy run list
    has been enabled? If so:
Disable this policy -> Back up your Registry -> Revert the change you made ->Set auto start from Lync, see it works.
Let me know the results, thank you.

  • Do you want the application "Office 365 service.app" to accept incoming network

I keep getting this pop up even though I have Office365Service blocked in my firewall. And this happens even when I don't have any MS apps open.

InDesign is phoning home, probably to check for updates of that spam promotion section in the startup screen.
Could also be any plugin activation mechanism, etc.
Go to System Preferences / Security & Privacy / Firewall
If there is an entry for InDesign, change it to something reasonable.

To narrow down this issue, please take your time to collect some information:
Does this happen to message sent to an individual, to a domain, or to a network?
Does it happen for messages sent to recipients within your organization, or to recipients at other domains?

  • Outlook 2013 with Office 365 and Google Apps Sync.

This is the scenario, hopefully somebody can give me some insight on how to resolve this.
Outlook 2013 with gapps. Both updated.
Outlook profile with an office 365 email account (which is as an exchange account) and google apps with our main account.
We installed an office 365 account since its the only way that several users can share and edit the same contacts on Outlook. They use almost all contact fields.
Gapps its the main email address and calendar. Shared calendars are deeply used too.
The problem is that when I edit a contact (the exchange account) I get an error -when- I edit the email field.
"The operation failed. The messaging interfaces returned an unknown error."
If I make a new Outlook profile with the exchange account and the gapps account via imap setup I get not errors BUT I loose calendars sync.
So I went back to the main profile and thought. <maybe both contacts engines are screwing Outlook.> So, since I don't care about gapps contacts anymore I disabled via:
    Disable sync for individual products
    https://support.google.com/a/answer/1041455?hl=en
And also disabled the dynamic Global Address (just in case).
    But the same happens.
I tried with another box, with office 2010, updated it and made a new profile with the office 365 and gapps and the same history.
Finally I though about setting the office 365 account as imap but contacts are not downloaded.
So I'm between a rock and a hard place here.
I need to use office 365 account in the same profile as gapps account.

    Hi,
What’s the file size of your Outlook data file? If your data file is over size, it may cause data file corruption.
Outlook data file corruption may cause this problem. Please try to run a repair of your Outlook data files to check the result:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/272227/en-us
Note: You may need to run Scanpst.exe for several times until there is no error.
In addition, here is a thread discussed a similar issue, please take a look at it and check if it helps:

  • Local hosted exchange (2013) to Full Online Office 365 for School District : Pointers for migration appreciated!

    Good afternoon all,
The school district I manage is currently using locally hosted exchange server(s) for mail.  (Server 2012 box that has Exchange 2013, and an older Server 2008 box that has Exchange 2010)
We are wanting to make the migration to full online Office 365.  We're talking about 450-500 mailboxes maximum.
In order to do this as seamlessly as possible, I need some help.
Any of you pros that have any gotchas/recommendations/best practices or walk-thrus for this i'm all ears.
Thanks so much, i really appreciate any help that can be given on this.

Vasil, thank you very much for this...it really helps a lot. One question for you, and i hope i'm understanding this correctly. In our school district, we have 2000+ students, and 350~ faculty. We will still be locally managing our users (who will
be tied to email addresses that will then be hosted in office 365) through local active directory. Will this be a problem? The only reason I ask this is because of reading this: Do you want to manage user accounts in your on-premises organization? No (listed
for cutover) We will keep our user account management (if that's what this is talking about) local on the DCs that are on our domain through ADUC. Is this what it's talking about, or is it talking about managing their email addresses? Maybe i'm making this
more difficult than it is... thanks for all the help!

  • App-V Office 2013/Office 365?

    Hi,
In order to App-v Office 2013, apparently you need Office 365 ProPlus? How to get it, we do have Office 2013 ProPlus but that's not sufficient? Don't get what the difference is actually.
Note: we don't want to use  Office 2013 click-n-run.
    J.
    Jan Hoedt
Note: the click-n-run doesn't give the option to mention you Exchange server, the junk folder used in Outlook etc., that's what we really need (just as the setup.exe /admin option in Office.

The difference between Office 365 ProPlus and Office Professional Plus 2013 is licensing only as the text you've quoted shows and as Rory has provided details on as well.
This is separate from how you deploy Office. With either Office 365 or Office 2013 you can choose to use a standard installation or the Office Deployment Tool (App-V). Office 365 also provides the Click-to-Run version which you download from the Office 365
    site.
If you have licensed Office 365, but want to use the Volume License media, you may have to purchase the media separately (which is really a download from the Volume License site). You may be required to purchase the minimum of 5 VL licenses to get access
to the media, but check with a Microsoft licensing expert for clarification.
The only supported method of deploying Office 2013 / Office 365 with App-V is via the Office Deployment Tool. This means that you can't use the VL media (SETUP /ADMIN) to create a configuration and capture that with the Sequencer.

The Definitive Guide to Delivering Microsoft Office with App-V

  • Office 365 - SharePoint 2013 Online - App Domain

I have noticed that Microsoft itself using the same domain for app.
    example :
    hosting URL (office 365) : http://*.sharepoint.com
    App domain : http://*.sharepoint.com
According to TechNet: "You must configure a new name in Domain Name Services (DNS) to host the apps. To help improve security, the domain name should not be a subdomain of the domain that hosts the SharePoint sites. "
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/fp161236%28v=office.15%29.aspx
my second question is that how app will work for vanity urls (host-named site collections)
like...  https://portal.domainA.com,  https://share.domainB.com and so on...
    thanks.
    ja

firstly on-premise bits can also be used to offer multi tenancy.
Inder : Yes it can be used for multi tenancy but it is rarely used. Which is why they share same service application and other settings. where in case of multi tenancy, security is taken into consideration and all service application are created in partitioned
mode. this helps not to share data between sites and security is maintained.
second part of your comments not much clearer..
below mentioned sites exists on the same web app.
    1. site collection url : https://test.domain.com   app url will be https://test-629dbe9907ec81.domain.com/app-name
Inder: There will always be one URL for app which will be used by all web applications and host header site collection.
Your app URL will be app.domain.com which will be used for all web application\site collections http://123.domain.com, http://456.domain.com, http://newdomain.com,
    http://anothernewdomain.com
    2. site collection url  : https://portal.test.com app url ?  and where to configure that.
Inder: This app.domain.com URL does work for https sites. :)
means unlimited app domains in SharePoint. or we are bound to use single domain for all?
Inder: Yes, single domain for app apps
