Hosted or cloud ? Apex...

We are planning to put our application in a hosted or a cloud environment..
Can any one tell me the cost involved..We do have oracle xe to accomplish this...
We are looking for cheap cost... We dont need huge expense..And we also have a dba in our team..
I solution is envica ..Though it is not cloud ..But there are advantages ..They have some plans which states 20 dollars a month..
Quite ok...
Dealing with envica or others we will have support , no need for a dba ,etc so we can reduce cost..this manner
How is it with amazon..Amazon will be cost effective if we have huge data..
We also use jasper for reports..
Let us know who has more information about it...
When we are going to cloud what are the cost consideration to take around. .
Also looking for cheapest cloud implementation..

Hi,
>

>
Depends on how huge is the data.
XE limits of 1 GB RAM and 11 GB tablespace apply on the cloud as well. You will need to setup the Jasper + Integration yourself. You have to manage your EC2 Instance yourself as well. Moreover, you will need at least 3 or 4 GB RAM on the instance to run XE + Jasper.
Please take a look at this page, if you have not already done so.
So you need to check if this is big enough for you (certainly not huge data). If you deploy SOne or SE on the EC2 instance the cost starts climbing up, license + bigger EC2 instance.
Apex Hosting Service providers offer you Oracle 11g SE as well as EE. But the cost goes up significantly when you ask for more Db space. At some point it will become cheaper to have your own co-located server purely on the cost front. Cloud will be cheaper than co-located. There is also the CAPEX vs OPEX aspect for "huge data" as the amounts involved are bigger.
As a side note, avoid XE on VPS.

    Hi Tony,
    It appears to be Web server related. I can't even get to http://apex.oracle.com (a static file). I just filed a P1 ticket for our IT organization to take a look and fix it.
    Thanks for reporting this.

  • Monitoring Servers hosted on Cloud.

    Hi Guys,
    I came across a request to check if it possible to monitor servers hosted on Cloud (Any cloud), servers in cloud are Windows and Centos flavors.
    Pls help me in getting the possible solution and consideration which has to be taken care prior planning.
    Pls Note: My request here is about only monitoring servers in the cloud, not the cloud itself.
    Thanks !
    - Thanks, Sai

    Sure, that's possible.
    You will need the Firewall(s) konfigured to allow TCP 5723 from the agent or gateway to the manager. Further, if there is no domain level trust you have to use certificates to achieve that.

  • Oracle Hosted Instance of APEX is down Again.. :(

    Just to let folks know, I was looking at a demo from one the APEX blogs, when I tried to run the demo app, the site was showing the Oracle Corp Website Unavailable message.
    Can I offer a suggestion here.. The posted links that are on this web page are INTERNAL to Oracles servers, so they DON'T REALLY offer any help to people on the outside.. Could they either change the pages to NOT show the links or modify the links to show USEFUL information as to scheduled downtimes or current status?
    Thank you,

    Correction, site is NOW back u p, but still would like the messages to be MORE useful...
    Edited by: Tony Miller on Mar 23, 2009 8:58 AM

    Was more asking about the page that is posted when the hosted site is down.. For people who are EXTERNAL to oracle's network, the links on it are useless.. Would be nice if they had some USEFUL information or links on it to show when planned outages are planned or even when they expect it up...
    Just a thought..

  • Could not get to  host:port/pls/apex

    I have the http server running and can see the host/ page.
    But could not get the any host:port/* pages.
    This is Apex 3.1 on 10gR2 database
    I have run the install script successfully for setting up a dev environment as the install guide directed. The config file under Apache/Apache has been set to 80 and listenning to 80.
    Could anyone help me out what I should check/verify ?
    Thanks,
    Ken

    I'm having a similar problem putting Apex 3.0 on a 9.2.0.6 db that runs our Oracle 11i ERP. The install is on the database tier of a 2-Tier ERP instance. Did the 3.0 install and the configuration for the httpd.conf and wdbsvr.app (DAD_apex). When I try to get to the Admin page I get ""The page cannot be displayed" error.
    My apex entry for the wdbsvr.app looks like
    [DAD_apex]
    connect_string = <server>.<domain>:7777:DEV
    password = wmcapex
    username = apex_public_user
    default_page = apex
    document_table = wwv_flow_file_object$
    document_path = docs
    document_proc = wwv_flow_file_mgr.process_download
    reuse = Yes
    eablesso = No
    stateful = STATELESS_RESET
    nls_lang = American_America.AL32UTF8
    I'd be interested to hear what is up. (P.S. I've already run apxremov and re-installed)

  • Need help hosting an XE APEX application using a domain name

    Hi,
    I have a pc with win xp and have installed XP with sp2. I have installed XE and upgraded to APEX 3.1. I have apache 2.2 installed. I have a dynamic IP so I have been using dyndns.org. I have just bought a domain name from 123-reg.co.uk. Now I want to link my domain name to my app.
    At the moment my users type http://mydomain.dyndns.com/apex. That open my APEX home page. Ideally I would like my users to type www.mydomain.co.uk and it should default to one of my applications.
    1. How do I get apache to redirect to a default application so users can just type www.mydomain.co.uk?
    I have the following lines in the config file
    <IfModule proxy_module>
    ProxyPass /apex http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex
    ProxyPassReverse /apex http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex
    ProxyPass /i http://127.0.0.1:8080/i
    ProxyPassReverse /i http://127.0.0.1:8080/i
    </IfModule>2. How do I link my domain name from 123-reg.co.uk to dyndns.com to my local pc?
    I sort of got it to work by setting up web forwarding in my domain settting I choi
    Non-framed web-forwarding - The destination URL will remain in the browser's address bar
    but then the url reverts back to mydomain.dysdns.org instead of www.mydomain.co.uk
    Thanks for your help.

    Hello,
    Non-framed web-forwarding - The destination URL will remain in the browser's address barI wouldn't advise using forwarding, since you have control over the DNS set the DNS to point to your IP address rather than their server, this will have a couple of advantages -
    1) You don't incur the 'penalty' of having your users having to go via your hosting companies servers for each request (they communicate directly with your server instead).
    2) You will incur less 'pain', web-forwarding can cause quite a few issues depending on your exact requirements (they might not affect you today or tomorrow, but someday down the line you might get bitten by them).

  • APEX vs PHP hosting cost

    Am new to APEX so please pardon the ignorance. Am trying to decide on a platform for a small application i have to build for a potential client.
    As a long time Oracle developer, I was able to pickup APEX very quickly and was excited at the prospect of not having to learn a new language like PHP.
    However, hosting services for APEX applications seem to be extremely costly compared to PHP/MySQL.
    How are organizations able to justify the cost ? Or am I missing something ?
    Thanks

    I have some sympathy here. I help run a dog training school. We are all volunteers, we make no money and we all have day jobs.
    I want to put some of the training schedules, notes and class lists on the web so that the instructors don't have to keep their own manual notes. I'm paying £6 per year to host my mySQL database and PHP.
    However my heart is broken with the thing. I have a day job, and I can't spend the time on it. Yes there are tools out there that can help generate the code, but nothing compares to what APEX can do. I just can't be bothered coding all the HTML and PHP. Then I've got to make sure it's secure, ugh!
    However for a 12 person system I can't go and ask them all to help pay for APEX hosting.
    If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears. Maybe if someone from Oracle is listening they could alter the terms of using apex.oracle.com so I could host the app there, I don't mind backing it up myself, it will only change a couple of times a week. Make it that no person identifiable data is loaded and that it can't be used for commerical purposes. Think of the take up it could bring to APEX.

  • Deploying APEX application with web host

    Hi guys,
    Whats the process of deploying APEX application with a webHost?
    We got a good deal from a web host with dedicated database, it still being processed.
    Currently we have a domain name hosted elsewhere (non APEX host) . What I am planning to do is, create a subdomain with our existing web host and point it to the IP address of the DB machine the apex host will give us.
    So I am guessing the process will involve:
    1) getting the IP address of the database machine
    2) configure the my existing web hosting setup to create a sub-domain and make it point to the IP address (for example 174.184.223.441)
    Would I need Port number of the machine running Oracle DB with APEX and the local IP address (the one starts with 10.0.0.xxx) etc?
    Would be grateful if someone can share what you did given you already have a domain hosted and need to create a subdomain to make it point to another APEX host.

  • APEX_MAIL support on Oracle's free APEX hosting site

    Did anybody know the status of APEX_MAIL support on Oracle's free APEX hosting site (http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=....)?
    I tested the following 'after submit' process in a testing APEX page without any error message.
    begin
    APEX_MAIL.SEND (
    p_to => 'my_email_address',
    p_from => 'my_email_address',
    p_body => 'This is a test from APEX form button -- number 5',
    p_subj => 'Test Subject ');
    end;
    But I did not receive the email.

    I tried different hotmail and yahoo mail addresses.
    If p_to and p_from were the same hotmail email addresses, the emails would be lost.
    if p_to and p_from were the same yahoo email addresses, the emails would be received.
    This is something caused by hotmail.
    The test can be done in SQL commands screen.
    APEX_MAIL.PUSH_QUEUE ('localhost',25) did work beautifully.
    You could see the message as follows in the SQL commands screen.
    Pushing email 4600499720366254834

  • Help needed with hosting APEX XE and domain name

    Hi,
    I'm looking at hosting my own APEX XE and need some help. I have APEX XE installed and running on my PC. I am using it to demo some apps. I have a registered domain which I would like to use as well.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

    Hi Andrew,
    At the moment I'm setting my own server up on virgin media though I will be helping a family member with their connection at a later stage.
    I currently have this safecom Cable wireless router (http://safecom.cn/code/support/DMF.aspx?pid=309#) and its manual is there. I found a menu called Dynamic DNS which has dyndns.org(dynamic) as a choice. I entered in the hostname bingo.dyndns.com which is what i registered on dyndns.
    What else do I need to do? I'm not to sure how to forward incoming requests. I do understand that you a routeting the queries to a specific machine and port but I'm not sure how to do it. I'm also experiencing this problem APEX username and password

  • FMS on Cloud Hosting?

    Hello.  Forgive me this has been asked already.  I have already purchased FMS Streaming Server 3 and run it off of a dedicated server.  However, I would like to switch my hosting to cloud hosting (possibly rackspace cloud).  I have a couple of questions...
    1) Will FMS 3 and/or 3.5 run off of a cloud "virtual" dedicated machine?
    2) If so, how can I transfer my license to make this work?
    3) If cloud hosting crashes, for example, and they rebuild the cloud with a new IP, will FMS not work?  How does the license recognize which machine it is on?
    Thanks for the help!
    Matt-

    A virutalized environment isn't ideal for FMS, for a number of reasons:
    1. A VM is often subject to varied clock jitter, which can really screw (yeah, that's a technical term) with clock based operations involved in media streams. I've seen all sorts of goofiness, including odd pauses in the streams, loss of audio/video sync, and loss of audio altogether.
    2. If the hardware is shared (for example, in the EC2 environment) you'll be in competition for network and disk resources with the other VM's running on the hardware (cloud services often guarantee processor and memory resources, but can't/won't guarantee disk time or bandwidth). If you don't control the hardware and the network uplink, you'll never know if the other VM's running on the hardware will eat up all of the available bandwidth or bog down the disk to the point where your streams can't perform.
    3. Some virtualized environments require a checksum each time a file is requested. This can be a major performance hurdle, especially when dealing with large files.
    As for the licensing, the FMS license is not IP based, so as long as FMS is properly installed when the VM starts up, FMS will work. You'd need to build an image that includes directives to write the license key to the ini file when the disk image mounts.
    FMS will run on a VM, but I'd recommend going with dedicated hardware for any production environment. It will save you endless headaches trying to chase down performance problems.

  • How do I tell my clients to configure the connectionstrings for a cloud service?

    I have an application that exists in two forms
    A Windows Service
    A Clouse Service with a Web Worker Role
    Both applications have an encrypted connection string in the app.config;
    for clients using the Windows Service I know how to tell them to change the config file.
    For a cloud service is it possible to edit the configuration file?
    I read something about Azure Settings, but I can't find any good information about that, is that the preferred method for setting environment settings in a Cloud Service?
    Can you remote in to a VM or whatever hosts the Cloud Service?
    Thank you for any help. I am writing the documentation about how to setup the Azure environment and I realized I don't know myself, I only know how to publish with Visual Studio to a cloud service with the values already set. That works, but I can't
    tell a client to use Visual Studio.

    Hi,
    For a cloud service, though it is possible to access instance VMs and do changes on their file system by RDP sessions, but it is not recommended, as you will end up loosing your changes if role instance VMs are restarted.
    If you really want to keep certain settings configurable and which will be shared by all your role instances, best way to do is to utilise the cloud service configurations, typically you mention these settings in .cscfg file and you can also edit those using
    azure management portal.
    You can also access those from your code
    string settingValue = CloudConfigurationManager.GetSetting("SettingString");
    Read more about it here - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/ee405486.aspx

    To add to Patrick's suggestion....
    What I am suggesting is not the cause of the FLOWS_030000 user existing error, but could be another issue which caused your installation to fail.
    In your post, you said...
    This is the command i gave to configure from SQL prompt:
    @D:\Apex3.0\apexins.sql <Newly Create User> <Newly Created Tablespace> <Newly Created Tablespace> TEMP /i/
    You have specified an absolute path when running the apexins.sql script. In order for the installation to succeed, you must first change your working directory to the directory where you unzipped the apex_3.0.zip file and then run the script. This is because the apexins.sql script subsequently references other sql scripts, using relative paths.
    You have also not included a password in your command, was this just for purposes of the posting, or could this also be an issue, as in:
    @apexins password tablespace_apex tablespace_files tablespace_temp images
    Hope this helps,
    Anthony

  • Apex Collections and dates

    Apex Collections and Dates
    I made an earlier posting today on the forum titled “‘ORA-01861: literal does not match format string’ error after my hosting company upgraded to Apex 3.2.” The issue relates to Apex collections and dates. Prior to the hosting company upgrading Apex 3.2 from 3.1 all was working OK. It seemed a reasonable assumption that the issue relates to the upgrade to 3.2. Having tested the code against another Apex 3.2 installation I am satisfied that the issue is not with Apex 3.2. That said, I am still getting the issue on the hosting site.
    To demonstrate the issue to my hosting company and this forum, I put together a simple one page application that demonstrates the issue using the least amount of code.
    I created a page with an ‘On Load – Before header” process that sets up an Apex Collection with a single value of ’20-FEB-2009’ in the c001 element as follows:
    if apex_collection.collection_exists(p_collection_name=>'THEISSUE') then
    apex_collection.delete_collection(p_collection_name=>'THEISSUE');
    end if;
    apex_collection.create_collection(p_collection_name => 'THEISSUE');
    APEX_COLLECTION.ADD_MEMBER(
    p_collection_name => 'THEISSUE',
    p_c001 => '20-FEB-2009');
    I added an SQL REPORT region to the page which uses the Apex Collection as follows:
    select to_date(c001,'DD-MON-YYYY') testdate
    from apex_collections
    where collection_name='THEISSUE'
    and to_date('20-FEB-2009','DD-MON-YYYY')
    = to_date(c001,'DD-MON-YYYY')
    When the page is run I get the ‘ORA-01861: literal does not match format string’ error.
    If I remove the following from the SQL Report Region:
    and to_date('20-FEB-2009','DD-MON-YYYY')
    = to_date(c001,'DD-MON-YYYY')
    and run the page, the date is displayed OK, i.e., c001 is converted to a date OK. This made me wonder whether it does not like the line to_date('20-FEB-2009','DD-MON-YYYY')? So I changed the where code for the report to :
    and to_date(c001,'DD-MON-YYYY')
    = to_date(c001,'DD-MON-YYYY')
    i.e., convert c001 to a date and compare it to itself. The rationale being that if the c001 converts to a date OK, then comparing c001 converted to a date with itself should not give an error. It did it gave the same error ‘ORA-01861’
    It would seem on my hosting site since the upgrade, that Apex and Oracle have problems with Apex Collection elements being converted to dates as part of the where clause.
    Now my understating of Oracle Apex collections in simple terms is that all Apex collections are held in a single Oracle table managed by a series of Apex functions. Given that all Apex collections are in the same table, could the issue be with the Oracle database when it is creating its execution plan for the query? Could Oracle be including the value of c001 from other collections (i.e., when c001 is not in a date format ) in the initial stages of its execution plan?
    I hope the above make sense and thanks in advance.

    Scott,
    I believe I have found the answer the statistics on WWV_FLOW_COLLECTIONS$ and WWV_FLOW_COLLECTION_MEMBERS$. are out of date and Oracle is doing a full table scan instead of using the indices to select only the c001 columns that belong to the given collection_id. If I change my simple example to store the date value in c050 it works ok. (In all probability this will be the only collection on the hosted database to use c050).
    I have asked the hosting company to gather stats on all the apex tables.
    Thanks for your help
