Hostname change - db_connect failed, unknown host name, Return Code 000256

check SAP Note 403708 - Changing an IP address and make sure there are no space, special characters in the hostname.

Hi Simon
Run Config Tool and change DB connection settings there in Secure Store. Update admin/host & jdbc/Url properties wherever you find the old host name. Then save the changes and restart the cluster.

  • How to change the fully qualified host name

    Hi,
how can I change the fully qualiied host name?

    Hi Michal,
I'm doing the FlightSeatAvailabilityCheck-Scenarion of the demo example and get an error. To get more details about the error I had a look in the XI Runtime Workbench. There I can see, that the wrong url is called (without the hostname) and  that the access is forbidden (403). Therefore I want to change the fully qualified host name. I knew that I have to change icm/host_name_full but I don't know where I can do it (which transaction)?

  • Catalog backup getting Error resolving host - unknown host name in dataset

I have new install of OSB version 10.3.0.1.0 [Admin, Mediaserver, Client] installed on the same OEL server. My Catalog Backup jobs end up with error " unknown host name in dataset" and the job detail shows only "Error resolving host - unknown host name in dataset" while I can ping the admin host with obtool pingh command. The standard auto created Catalog backup dataset looks like this:
    Dataset: OSB-CATALOG-DS
    # Dataset for backing up the OSB Catalog on this administrative host
    include catalog
I am able to create a separate dataset with the hostname defined and able to backup filesystems on the same host, np . Only the catalog backup from system generated dataset and schedule doesn't run. I appreciate any help or tip to make this catalog backup work. Thanks.

This problem is fixed by just restarting observiced on admin server.

  • Need of hostname change on existing endeca host

    Hi All,
I have installed all endeca core packages (Mdex6.2.1, Platform6.1.1, Workbench2.1,..) and a pipeline on one of linux box. Now, there is a need of hostname change. Hope it does not break any  existing platform and pipeline. Is there any document related?
What i can think of on endeca perspective are,
         Hostname change on environment.properties
URL change on pipeline esp file
Change eac central server hostname on workbench
URL change on Preview app setting on workbench
Is there anything else I need to consider?
any comments are more than welcome.
    Thanks,

Take a look at support KB: How to Change IP addresses or host names for Endeca Hosts (Doc ID 1532056.1).

Can I change the public hostname in my Oracle Database 10g Cluster using Oracle Clusterware?
Hostname changes are not supported in Oracle Clusterware (CRS), unless you want to perform a deletenode followed by a new addnode operation.
The hostname is used to store among other things the flag files and Oracle Clusterware stack will not start if hostname is changed.
    Changing the Private Interconnect
o Change of the IP Address: change the IP address in the hosts file and/or DNS and make sure that ASM and the database also use the same interconnect
o Change of the private node name used by Oracle Clusterware: requires a reinstall of Oracle Clusterware
So, Public or Private hostnames can only be changed by removing/adding nodes, or reinstalling Oracle Clusterware. VIP Hostnames can be changed
But you can read this idea (reinstall CRS)

  • Unknown host names ( rv220w )

I just bought a Cisco rv220w and noticed that 90% of the connected devices read as Unknown. I moved from a Netgear WNDR4500 where almost 90% of the items were labeled with their proper names. Those names which were left as Unknown, I was able to set their names appropriately.
This new router was quite a bit more expensive than the Netgear, are there any similar options to setting the connected device names or is there a setting I am missing to be able to properly identify the connected devices?
Hopefully, I am missing something small but I have spent 10+ hours trying to figure this our to no avail.
    Thanks for any help.

    Richard,
I have used the RV220W at home since it was released. I have noticed the same thing, on mine the only host names that I see are computers and network attached storage devices. I have several IP cameras, printers, etc. and they all show as "Unknown". This has been the same on every firmware release. I have not found any settings in the router or LAN devices that can change this, it appears to be a limitation of the router.
I will say that I have found this limitation easy to overlook as the RV220W is stellar in every other way that is important to me, especially with the latest firmware installed. It was expensive for a home router but it has served me well. It also has a limited lifetime warranty which is not easy to find in a consumer model.

  • Must I reinstal Oracle if I change the server's host name

My oracle817 is running on the windows2000 platform and works well.
But when I changed the W2K server's host name, the OracleOraHome81Agent service can't be started. What's wrong with it? Must I reinstall the oracle to comply with the host name?
    Thanks in advance

I do NOT want to change the adminstrator short name or the administrator password. But I'm wondering whether I can change the administrator long name (account name?) by editing the "Name:" field in the administrator's account pane under the Password tab. And if I can change the name is this is a good idea or will I open a pandora's box of problems.
I changed the long name & did not observe any problems.
Permission problems? - will there be ownership problems if the account owner's long name is changed but the short name is not,
Mac OS X uses the short name internally.
Login problems? - I assume the login window will show the usual picture icon for the administrator but with the new long name. And by clicking the icon I'll have no problem logging in as long as I supply the old unchanged password.
    correct
File sharing problems? - If I want to login (Connect) to the administrator's account from another machine then could I use either the new administrator long name or the old unchanged short name to do this?
Have not tried this. You can use the short name.

You can also address both RAC nodes in your SQLDeveloper connection.
Open the connection properties and select "Advanced" as "Connection Type".
Use the following type of JDBC URL:
    jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(LOAD_BALANCE=on)(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=devrac1.mydomain.ca)(PORT=1521))(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=devrac2.mydomain.ca)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=devrac.mydomain.ca)))
