Hostname change fantasticality?

I found a strange thing, my macbook pro hostname change fantastically.
It looks like when I change a network connection, the hostname will change.
For example, when I am at home, and issue the command "hostname" in cmd console, it return "bogon". When I am in office, the hostname command will retuen another string.
Anybody can tell me what's reason?
Thanks a lots!

  • Need of hostname change on existing endeca host

    Hi All,
I have installed all endeca core packages (Mdex6.2.1, Platform6.1.1, Workbench2.1,..) and a pipeline on one of linux box. Now, there is a need of hostname change. Hope it does not break any  existing platform and pipeline. Is there any document related?
What i can think of on endeca perspective are,
         Hostname change on environment.properties
URL change on pipeline esp file
Change eac central server hostname on workbench
URL change on Preview app setting on workbench
Is there anything else I need to consider?
any comments are more than welcome.
    Thanks,

Take a look at support KB: How to Change IP addresses or host names for Endeca Hosts (Doc ID 1532056.1).

    Hi,
Just wanted to clarify the exact procedure for the hostname change for the CUC.
As for CUCM, Im & Presence the command is set network hostname, however for the CUC the below link does not mention the same.

Please refer page 75,76 where they stating to use for alternate hostname via command set web-security.
I have used the set network hostname in CUC and it worked fine.
Could any one please confirm the exact procedure.

  • Terminal hostname change

Recently the hostname changed in the terminal from hummingfish to hummingfigh-2.
Any ideas as to the cause or the fix?
    Thanks.

This sounds like a localnet problem. I know that the router can supply a hostname that sometimes collides or is derived from the localnet domain name.

  • UCCX Hostname Change

    Hi,
is there a way to change the hostname of UCCX 7.0? what should be taken care of if i change the hostname?
    regards
    Prasanna

    Hi Prasana,
Hostname change is not recommended or supported for UCCX product. Changin the server name causes SQL/MSDE database to not start up which causes major issues.
    Hope this helps

  • Hostname change with Distribution Monitor

We will perform Upgrade&UnicodeConversion for our BI system with Distribution Monitor  parallel export/import function.
I would like to keep hostname unchanged after export/import to avoid interface configuraiton adjustment,
Export from HostnameS -> Parallel import to Hostname D -> Change HostnameD to HostnameS when finished (adjust SAP profile & oracle listener), does it work?
    Is there a better idea?
    Thanks,
    James

    Thanks Sunny,
I've read this note before. I am looking for a smarter way to avoid hostname change with Distribution Monitor.
Option 1: As I mentioned before, change the hostname back to HostnameS immediately after import in destination server.
Option2: When import, we can set SAPINST_HOSTNAME on target server, this can be set to HostnameS, but in /etc/hosts files, the IP address of this entry is point to HostnameS, I have not figured it out......
If there is no choice rather than changing the hostname, then we will follow this note and test all connections/configurations.
    Thanks,
    James

  • SSH Still Working after Hostname change???

    Hi all,
I was under the impression (from past experiences) that SSH self-signed certificates are made up of the Hostname and the Domain Name of the router.
I have been working on a customer network and I can see that the SSH RSA certificate is using the old hostname of the device+domain name but SSH still works both inbound and outbound on the VTY lines!
I thought you had to zeroize the keys and recreate using the crypto key generate rsa command in order to continue to use SSH after a hostname change so that the new certificate contains the new hostname?
Any explanation would be greately appreciated
    Many thanks
    David

    Hi David.
Yes after changing router parameter such as Hostname, domain name SSH still works with the old certificate.
What i can suggest you is to recreate it through crypto key generate rsa command in configuration mode.

  • Can't login to Server app after hardware and hostname change

I used Carbon Copy Cloner to completely clone a Mac mini Server onto another Mac mini Server. (The idea being that I can install and configure additional software just once and then easily set up identical servers by copying all hard drive contents.) This seemed to work great – the second Mac mini runs fine, including logins, networking etc.
To avoid conflicts between the two servers, I changed the computer name in System Preferences/Sharing and ran:
    sudo scutil --set HostName someothername
    sudo changeip oldip newip
The problem is that the Server app won't let me log in on the second Mac mini. It lists "This Mac" in the "Choose a Mac" dialog, but when I enter the correct username and password, login is refused (the login dialog is "shaken"). But the same login works for the operating system and SSH, and the account was definitely "allowed to administer this server". On the original Mac mini I cloned from, I can login with this account just fine.
I even added the user account to the "Open Directory Administrators" group using ldapmodify on the command line, but that didn't help.
Is it possible that there's something in the user directory that's bound to the hardware (maybe the Ethernet MAC address) or the hostname?
Do you have any idea how I could fix this? I'm grateful for any help…

    this hasn't worked for me.
When i follow the additional steps using terminal, the second command brings back the same outcome - 'David is not in the sudoers file. this incident will be reported'.
I've been having trouble with login on for a week but didn't realise this was the problem. I've reset passwords, reinstalled OSX (twice) and now, bizarrely, i can log onto the mac mini as the administrator, but once logged in, the 'administrator' password doesnt work for anything. I can run Software Update because it comes up with a message:
"Software Update wants to make changes. Type an administrator name and password to allow this".
I then put in my password but it shakes and tells me its wrong.
Can anyone advise any other solution? I'm kind of stuck - because the system doesn't recognise my admin password for updates, i cant update anything. And also because my itunes library was set up by a newwer version (I reinstalled OSX believing it would fix it reverting it back to a previous version) i can't listen to any music.

  • New IP-address or hostname change affect Oracle database?

    Hello,
Our Oracle database servers will be moving to a different location that we might have to change to new IP-addresseses or host names. I was told that we might have to re-install all Oracle homes and databases. Is it true? And generally, what else do I need to concern about when we decide to change the IP address or hostname?
Thank you so much in advance.

    Is it true?NO!
Oracle RDBMS does not know or care about anything involving IP#.
In fact Oracle RDBMS can run OK, without the system having ANY network interface.

  • Hostname Change affected Discoverer!

    Hi All,
Recently, we have successfully performed Domain Name Changing in our R12 Oracle EBS environmevernt. In the Database server we also have a Discoverer Instance configured and this got affected due to the this change. Currently we are able to access the Discoverer using 'Discoverer Administration Edition' but not able to access it through URL.
I've observed the following, where it still points to the old hostname.
    [appldisc@XXXXXXX bin]$ ./opmnctl startall
opmnctl: starting opmn and all managed processes...
    GETHOSTBYNAME(*hostname.olddomainname*): 2
    1. Can you please let me know how do we update the domainname for the Discoverer Instance?
    2. Did I miss anything for Discoverer while doing domainname change.
    EBS Version : 12.1.0
    Database Version : 11.2.0
    Regards,
    Mahesh

What is your discoverer version? Please verify all profile options and discoverer setting as per these docs.

  • Apache @ centos issue (hostname changed by mistake)?

    Hi there!
I have a VPS and the hosting enterprise reboot it (don't know why), and i had configured apache correctly until this. Now, when i start apache theres an error: "Starting httpd: httpd: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.0.1 for ServerName"
So, the hostname has changed to its default value, is there a way to get the old hostname? Maybe on the apache logs? The VPS provider does not answer my messages...
    Thanks and greetings....

I think it impossible to say what happened without knowing more details.
You can type the command hostname to check what the current host name is. You can set a hostname until the next reboot by using hostname new_name.
To set a permanent hostname on Debian based systems, check and modify +/etc/hostname+. On Red Hat based system check +/etc/sysconfig/network+. You should also check /etc/hosts to make sure it is set accordingly.
You can search for the old hostname by looking in the old messages logs in +/var/log+ and apache logs in +/var/log/httpd+ or +/var/log/apache+.

  • DB2 Hostname Change

Because of that our DRC planning will be done by restoring VMware images.
But, there are issues when we try to restore the Production servers images (seperated between PROD-CI and PROD-DB)
On OS level, IP,  Hostname also the SAP parameters has been replaced with the new ones (named PROD-CIDR and PROD-DBDR), the issues came up when we try to change to change DB2 hostname parameter using :

    Dear All,
Finally I got the chance to give an update...
Just yesterday, I finally succeed to replicate and configure the DR server of our QA system.
    Our steps are:
    Replicate the QA Server
Build new server as DR server, set networking not to connect at power on
After power on the server, I change some setting, which isChange /etc/hosts value,
Need to change the IP address, set the new IP and leave the hostname as it is
    Change Network Setting from YAST,
When we create new server from replication, they will create new connection properties (set as eth1), where the new assigned network hardware set. The old connection properties (set as eth0) contain the old IP, and will not contain hardware information/empty. So we need to delete the old connection properties and set the new IP to the new connection properties (also change the conf name from eth1 to eth0)
Connect DR server to the network
After this, we already can ping the DR server
    Start SAP services
Then, the SAP DR can be accessed by SAP Logon by adding new connection while the real QA is still online.
So far, we've tested it up to that point and haven't try to insert some transaction and also haven't check any issue related to SAP parameters.
If there's no trouble, we intended to replicate the Production servers...
Any inputs / suggestions about this? Is there any point that we need to check first at this point?
    Regards,
    Stan Beta

  • Solaris 11 Early Adopter - hostname changing changes?  :)

I see that the "old" way of changing hostnames from Solaris 8/9/10/11-Express has changed, but I can't get the new way to work in the Early Adopter release. The docs say to use this command:
    svccfg -s svc:/system/identity:node setprop config/nodename = new_hostname
I can run that command as the root role, but the nodename property does not change (no errors, zero return code). I can't use svc commands to edit it or delete it either: it's like the property is immutable?
This is a fresh text installer install in a VMware x64 VM. Current ugly workaround is to run the hostname command in rc2.d on boot to rename the system. (/etc/nodename, /etc/hostname.<iface>, /etc/hosts changes are ignored on boot: system is always renamed to the config/nodename property)
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

run a refresh and restart on the service.
    svcadm refresh svc:/system/identity:node
    svcadm restart svc:/system/identity:node
You might also need to set the config/loopback property with the new hostname (same way you set the config/nodename property).
