Hot corners causing pallets to disappear.

When using hot corners on mac, Indesign CS6 looses all of its pallets but keeps the doc window open. Usimng the tab butten restors them. However thius issue has only recently started. Any thoughts?

I have been having this same problem for a few months now, and I'm glad to see I'm not the only person. I'm using a 15" MBP (OS 10.8.3; 2.4 Ghz Intel Core i7; 8GB 1333Mhz DDR3), and occassionally when I use my hot corners every window moves except InDesign. I'm using InDesign in the Application Frame mode. If I have multiple InDesign docs open, the issue can happen with one file being viewed, but then not happen if I switch to a different InDesign file/tab. I've recently noticed that manually changing the order of the tabs starts allowing the hot corners to work again for all documents open.
I have followed the instructions to reset the preferences but it hasn't cleared up the issue.
Anyone else having similar experiences?

  • Hot corners disappearing for no reason

I love the hot corners feature. Randomly, they will stop working (even though still active in system preferences). When I reboot, they suddenly work again. This is very annoying. The shift-f9, shift-f10 functions continue to work fine. I'm running 10.3.9. Please help, thanks.

    Hi
I don't know why they are working only intermittently, but you could try this.
With Expose off and system preferences panel closed,
    Locate the com.apple.systempreferences.plist found in
    ~/Library/Preferences and delete it.
Log out and log back in again and see if the hot corners functions properly with that.

  • Dock, Expose, Hot Corners etc. don't work anymore! Solutions?

Two days ago I decided to restart my Macbook. When the screen popped up it gave me the option of "Reopen windows when logging back in". I never noticed this before switching from Snow Leopard to Lion but maybe it's always been there. Anyways, as you know it is checked by default so I unchecked it just out of curiosity and restarted my system.
When the system came back on, my desktop background had vanished, hot corners will not work, dock does not show up, and when I try to change any of these preferences they do not take. (i.e.-changing orientation of the dock from bottom to left, it simply won't let me select left) I can only open applications from spotlight, and when I mouse over an item now it turns the font white, which never happened before since I did not have it set like that. In addition, google chrome and safari both crash quite frequently since these mess-ups, and so I have resorted to doing all of my work from Firefox.
I've read in these forums as well as other place on the web about this problem happening, but I have tried all of the remedies to no avail. In the past, the problem for users was a lot of the time caused by the use of a wireless mouse. However, I have never used a wireless mouse so this can't be the problem. I also went in to disk utilities and ran a repair, thinking maybe something might click but nothing did. I have restarted/shut down many times just to see if the problem has fixed itself, which it hasn't yet. I've gone into Activity Monitor and relaunched Finder several times, and also noticed that Report Crash is working super hard on the system for some reason. (Maybe because of many of my programs freezing and crashing?)  I also deleted many recent downloads, since I had one or two unfinished downloads and this had been the problem for one user inparticular...I did a "Secure Empty Trash" from the finder menu for these items. I also ran CleanMyMac and uninstalled a couple of applications that I don't use just for good measure...still NOTHING.
I'm in no way an expert with computers, I just own a macbook and it's having problems. If you guys could lend your expertise as a last ditch effort that'd be great. I'd prefer not to take it to GeekSquad, Apple Store, or a repair shop because I'm a college student and I'm literally broke at the moment, so any remedies or ideas would take weight off of my chest.
    Thanks in advance-Jameson

Also, this black bar shows up towards the bottom of the screen on the left side when it's on the apple loading screen. Not sure what it is...and yes I have also run system updates.

  • Having issues with two-finger swipe and hot corners. Help!

I've lately been having an issue, where my two finger swipe will stop working. I also notice that 3 of my 4 hot corners no longer work, either. The only one that works is the top left. When I restart my computer, or change users, etc, it's fixed for a while, but then the problem will start up again in about an hour.
I've tried the Software Update, and it seems everything is up to date. Any solutions?? I spent a good deal of money on this iMac, and I'm concerned there's something wrong with it.
I have a 27" iMac, which I bought around November 2011. Software is OSX 10.7.5
    Thanks!

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • My macbook pro started acting strange after a safari reset. the mouse no longer: animates the dock, activates hot corners or selects pages from the 'top sites' page.

my macbook pro started acting strange after a safari reset.
the mouse no longer: animates the dock, activates hot corners or selects pages from safari 'top sites' (without a hassle). attempts to reset dock and hot corners from preferences has been fruitless
the mouse also gets 'stuck' in logic precipitating force quits.
i run osX 10.6.8 on a 2007 macbook pro that has had 2 motherboards replaced autumn 2010.
my troubleshooting has been: restart, pRam and safe boot, also checking a 'test' account to find the same issues extant.
pRam restart caused airport to quit and say there is no airport card, and wouldn't respond untill another reboot.
macbook pro 15" 2.4 GHz intel core duo.2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
i have treated this book with care, yet run logic pro studio to the limit of this book's abilities.
    what shoud i do?

You don't say which year you have, however...
...there are known problems with the mid-2010 models (see http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US) as well as early and late 15" 2011 models (see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4766577?tstart=0).
Apple has taken ownership of the problems with the 2010 model but, unfortunately, the free logic board replacement for that model has probably long expired for you - three years after date of purchase.
One the 2011 models Apple has admitted no defect. You'll just have to skim the articles to get an overview of the problems that people are having (usually showing up as screen glitches at first and then going downhill from there).
    Good luck,

  • Dock hiding and hot corners no longer work

I am not sure exactly when it began, but for the past 2-4 weeks, my hot corners and dock hiding have been very erratic. At seemingly random times, all the sudden my hot corners stop being active, so when I move my pointer to the corner, the designated task whether it be dashboard, Expose, screen saver, etc. as selected in preferences no longer activates. Dock hiding stops working as well. The dock hides, but when I move my cursor over where the dock is parked it doesn't appear, it stays hidden. I can click command alt d and the dock will appear or disappear, but will not appear by just moving the cursor to the side of the screen where the dock is parked. I have not added any new software lately other than Apple OS 10.6.4 and whatever Safari, iTunes etc updates that keep coming at along at pretty regular intervals. Interestingly I have an iMac at work and at home, and they both are misbehaving in the same way. They are similarly populated with software, although not exactly. When I update one, I update the other. Both started misbehaving at about the same time.
I have rebooted- sometimes works, sometimes not. I have trashed the dock and finder plist- works for awhile, but problem always returns. I have reset the PRAM- works for awhile, but problem always returns.
Any thoughts. I like being able to hide the dock to gain that extra bit of screen space, although the command alt d, is an adequate if not ideal work around. But I really like the hot corners, and I do not know of a work around for that problem.

The university requires all computers to have anti-virus software and recently switched to Sophos from Symantec, in July I believe. That was a new software install. Since it just works in the background and I never actually access it, I had forgotten about that. I hope that is not the problem, as I am required to have antivirus software.
And no I have not created a new user to log in. It is erratic enough that I don't know how long would have to be on to see if the problem recreated itself. Sometimes it seems like just minutes after I start the computer up and sometimes hours. Right now it is still working since starting this morning.

  • Displaying all application windows through Hot Corners is no longer working.

I have my MacBook Pro and my iMac setup to display APPLICATION WINDOWS through the upper right HOT CORNER.   It is no longer working on my iMac.  Instead, the system only displays the top/recent used window.  The display separates and shows the most recent window floating, but, no longer does it arrange windows of each application on the desktop.  There are no other options, it's either set in HOT CORNERS or not.   What changed?   It still works on my MacBook.  Version update = 10.10.2 (14C1514)

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.

Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Hot corners work for exposé but not for screensaver

There are several fairly specialized posts in these forums about hot corners, but my problem is a very simple one: whereas I can use hot corners to control windows, etc., I cannot make them work to turn the screensaver on or off. In the Leopard forum, there is a reference to an article in MaxFixIt, but it is only accessible by MacFixIt Pro subscribers (amongst whom I am not numbered). Were it not for the fact that hot corners seem to work for me as far as Exposé is concerned, I might have guessed that my problem is caused by the fact that the eMac has a CRT display and not a LED one. But the hot corners do work for Exposé, so that cannot be the answer. I trust someone will be able to find the correct answer and tell me how to make them work for the screensaver.

Further to my question, I think I need to be more specific. I have set the top left corner to start the screensaver and top right to disable it. There is no trouble with top left: the screensaver starts. But that is actually fairly trivial: I have it set to come on anyway after 3 minutes. But if I leave my cursor in the top right corner ('disable screensaver'), I expect the screensaver not to come on after 3 minutes; that is what 'disable' means. But it does come on: that is my problem.
Surely 'disable' cannot mean 'stop'? If one moves the cursor while the screensaver is running, it instantly stops anyway, so why use a hot corner? Surely it must mean 'do not start up after whatever time is normally specified', so that, for instance, one can watch a slide-show of photographs without interruption?

  • Hot corners timeout

    Hi!
I use hot corners to activate screensaver, cause screensaver activation is the easiest way to lock my computer on work.
How can i change timeout to activate hot corner action, I neet to change it to 5 seconds, now It's about 1 second.
    Thanks.

Create a new folder onto the desktop, move these preferences files from ~/Library/Preferences/ to that folder, restart, and try to reset the hot corners again.
    com.apple.dock.plist
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.recentitems.plist
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
I just changed mine and those were the ones that changed. Note that will change your current preference settings, so you'll have to reset them. If moving those fixes things, then you could replace them one at time, after making copies of the newly created ones, until you determine which one's the culprit.
Another option is to create a new admin user account, log into it, and see if those options pop back up. Again, you'll have to the substitution trick to isolate the bad one.

  • Expose Hot Corners Broken

My Expose stopped working today, and itz annoying, as I use it a lot to see my other windows and spaces. Tried the killall Dock in terminal, and the dock did reboot, but, did not help Expose, same issue. I fully reninstalled my OS 10.5 last week, have no add on screen savers or utilities or anti virus. How can I trash the expose plist, can not find in the prefs folder?? Or if you have a better idea on how to get the hot corners to work again, let me know. thanks.

Thanks for the advise everyone. Here is the result and solution after sitting at the Genius bar; and I have to say, I know better, I should have done this before hauling my iMac 15 miles to the Genius bar.
The issue come down to a perif device taking up my processor time, preventing the instant items from working, like Expose, the dock magnification and dock icon names, popups in Netflix; all were suspended processes while the perif device held up both of my processors.
    I have three perifs, a Cannon printer-installed a month ago, a fantom 500gb hard drive used with time machine and installed 5 months ago, and a logitech wireless mouse, all through a USB hub. This issue started about a month ago, can you guess which one is the problem? So, I love my Cannon, it is my second one, I came home, unplugged the USB cable to it, rebooted, and the issue has stopped. The genius bar said they had heard of one different printer causing such an issue, and he explained the bundles and all to me so that I would understand, but, this is NOT a usual event. I noticed yesterday, there is an update to my Cannon print driver bundle, i installed it, but, have not dared to plug the USB cable back in. I will only when I need to print. Like I said, I know better, and should have tested my perifs long before going to the apple store, I will blame my failure on old age, ;

  • Hot Corners have visual representation on the screen

I don't know how I did it, but for any hot corner I have active, there is a visual representation that a corner is a hot corner. I see 1/4 of a circle in a light blue colour. If I turn hot corners off, the little 1/4 circle disappears.
Any ideas how to get rid of the 1/4 circles from the active hot corners. They never used to be there.
    Thanks, B

    Hi,
Thanks for your suggestions, but I don't have any of those type of programs installed. I have just got my MBP so have not installed very much at all.
Only tweak I have applied was to stop the computer waking from sleep when you open the lid, and that was done through terminal.
I am not too fussed about it, just feel like I have training wheels on

  • Desktop inactice, hot corners gone

    Hey all
today i noticed everything on my desktop (only 2 small folders) dissapeared. Also, the Mac HD icon is gone. With this, my hot corners stopped working, and I cannot right-click on my desktop. Whats happening?
I have a macbook pro 15 in intel core2duo. Running 10.6.2, 4 GBs RAM. Any other info you guys need let me know?
Thank you so much, this is the best mac help i have ever recieved.

Wow... thats clever. Disappearing hard drives.
Sounds to me like something corrupted somehow. I would check the system logs (the Console application within the Utilities folder, or by typing syslog into terminal) for anything useful.
If it is what I think it is... I hope you keep a Time Machine backup.

  • It seems my "passed" events in my calendar are not on my iphone anymore...Is there a setting I have changed that caused them to disappear?  They do still appear on my Outlook calendar on my pc?  How can I get them to show up on my iphone again?

Events that are in the past do not appear on my calnedar on my iphone.  Have I possibly changed a setting that caused them to disappear?  Can I get them back on my iphone as they do still appear on my Outlook calendar on my PC?

Settings> Mail, Contacts, Calendars> in Calendar section change the Sync setting.

  • Screen Sharing and Hot Corners/expose bug?

I tried searching but I came up with nothing. I have an iMac and a Macbook. On the iMac I have hot corners set up to use expose. On the bottom left I have it show the desktop and on the bottom right I have it show all windows. Now when I use my macbook to screenshare with my iMac and try to drag a file on the iMac, it activates one of the hot corners even though my mouse cursor is no where near either of the corners. If I deactivate the hot corners, I can drag just fine but I don't want to have to do that every time I use screen sharing. So this is making screen sharing pretty useless. Anyone else have this problem? I just submitted a bug report too.

I have the same problem. Very annoying.

  • Using my MacBook with a "docking station" setup issues with hot corners

I have a 13" white 1.83GHz Core Duo MacBook. Came with 512MB of RAM, upgraded that to 2GB from OWC. then my HDD started to die, so while replacing that I went from the 60GB to a 120GB SATA 1.5 5400RPM HDD. This is my main system, I use it for both work and home. At work I use the laptop display, keyboard, and touchpad. But at home, I use a 19" wide via Mini DVI to VGA, one of those new bluetooth apple keyboards (just got it, one of the best keyboards I have ever touched), and a USB wired Microsoft mouse.
The issues I have been having are as follows: I get home, plug in the power, video, and mouse. then click a key on the keyboard and it will wake up. But half the time my hot corners don't work, and I am unable to see other PCs on my network. I reboot and these issues are fixed. Then I leave from home, and try to wake up the Book at work, half the time it wont wake up, and when it does, same issues, hot corners don't work, magnify doesn't work. Can't see other PCs until I reboot. I have a short drive, and I prefer to just put it to sleep.
One other issue. I play World of Warcraft on this system, and in the last couple of weeks, it will produce system lag. to the point where it gets really hard to keep playing. Other people I know have identical systems that play it just fine. Any ideas?

Yes, the use case you describe is possible.
If you buy the Lenovo fingerprint keyboard, then you are buying something that has been tested with ThinkPads and we provide a driver for Win8/Win8.1
If you buy some other fingerprint keyboard, we can't guarantee whether it will work or not.  At least, make sure there's a Win8/Win8.1 driver for it.
