Hot corners disappearing for no reason

I love the hot corners feature. Randomly, they will stop working (even though still active in system preferences). When I reboot, they suddenly work again. This is very annoying. The shift-f9, shift-f10 functions continue to work fine. I'm running 10.3.9. Please help, thanks.

Hi
I don't know why they are working only intermittently, but you could try this.
With Expose off and system preferences panel closed,
Locate the com.apple.systempreferences.plist found in
~/Library/Preferences and delete it.
Log out and log back in again and see if the hot corners functions properly with that.

    Does it happen all the time? Sometimes restarting the ipad will resolve it. How are your notes being saved? check the account and see if they are there.

  • Movieclip button keeps disappearing for some reason.

    I created our website using Actionscript 2.0 and on several of our pages there is a drop-down text box that has a "close" button on it, which is just a movieclip located inside the text box movieclip.  For some reason, if you stay on a page for a few minutes the close button disappears.  The hand still shows up when you hover over where it was at and you can still click on it, but it just turns invisible.  I'm not sure what's causing this.  Any suggestions?
    The website is:  www.klaesimage.com
    Thanks,

    My guess is that you have some kind of loop that adjusts the _alpha to brighten it up that is like this:
    myButton.onRollover=function(){
    this.onEnterFrame=function(){
    this._alpha+=10;
    And you don't have a conditional to say, "when alpha reaches 100 stop adding more."
    So what happes is that the alpha value goes about 100 and when it gets to something like 2^15 it wraps around and becomes an incredibly low negative number. If you wait another few minutes it should eventually get back to positive values!
    Of course the best bet would be to put in some conditionals to control that it doesn't go above/below 100/0.
    After watching it for a while longer I saw that it does cycle.  I'm not sure why because its alpha should just stay at 100 once it's on that frame, the dissolve up is from a motion tween where the entire contents of the text box go from 0 alpha to 100 alpha over 10 or so frames, but once there on the frame where it stops there shouldn't be any changes to the alpha.

  • Hot corners work for exposé but not for screensaver

    There are several fairly specialized posts in these forums about hot corners, but my problem is a very simple one: whereas I can use hot corners to control windows, etc., I cannot make them work to turn the screensaver on or off. In the Leopard forum, there is a reference to an article in MaxFixIt, but it is only accessible by MacFixIt Pro subscribers (amongst whom I am not numbered). Were it not for the fact that hot corners seem to work for me as far as Exposé is concerned, I might have guessed that my problem is caused by the fact that the eMac has a CRT display and not a LED one. But the hot corners do work for Exposé, so that cannot be the answer. I trust someone will be able to find the correct answer and tell me how to make them work for the screensaver.

    Further to my question, I think I need to be more specific. I have set the top left corner to start the screensaver and top right to disable it. There is no trouble with top left: the screensaver starts. But that is actually fairly trivial: I have it set to come on anyway after 3 minutes. But if I leave my cursor in the top right corner ('disable screensaver'), I expect the screensaver not to come on after 3 minutes; that is what 'disable' means. But it does come on: that is my problem.
    Surely 'disable' cannot mean 'stop'? If one moves the cursor while the screensaver is running, it instantly stops anyway, so why use a hot corner? Surely it must mean 'do not start up after whatever time is normally specified', so that, for instance, one can watch a slide-show of photographs without interruption?

  • My Contacts disappear for no reason

    Have a new iphone4. For no discernible reason my contact list just disappears. When I try to snyc, it wants to delete my address book on my MAC so that it looks like to no non-existent list on the phone. What gives?

    Did you have any e-mail account or other sort of sync account set up on the phone that has since signed out, deactivated or was deleted? Android's contact management system is broken down into layers. Contacts can be stored "On device" where Verizon Cloud will back them up. Other contacts will be stored on Google, Yahoo, Facebook, etc accounts that are in essence, "Cloud Storage" items. If those accounts sign out or disconnect, the contacts will disappear. To fix, all you need to do is sign back into the account holding your contacts.
    Alternatively, consider these contacts as hidden. If you hit your Menu button, there will usually be a Show/Hide Contacts. Make sure there are not any unchecked contact lists that may contain your contacts.

  • Firewire drives disappear for no reason

    I have 2 firewire back up drives that since Leopard keep disconnecting.
    No rhyme or reason that I can tell.
    I will come home and there will be a message saying it was disconnected incorrectly.
    Funny, as one will still be connected.
    They both do it.
    any help would be appreciated. thanks Laura

    thanks for your reply.
    they are daisy chained and they are both on their own brick.
    today I made the decision to go back to tiger. I WANT to like leopard but for a month I have had nothing but troubles-big and small. I partitioned my drive and installed tiger on one and leopard on the other so when there are a few more updates I will try again but for now I just need some stability.
    I will see if it was the os or the drives in some way over the next few days.
    thanks again for your ideas.

  • Available Space on My Computer Disappearing for No Reason

    I have been sitting in front of my computer for the last 20 minutes and in that time my available GB went from 27.4 to 26.75. The space available keeps slowly diminishing. The only program I have running now is  Firefox, I closed everything else, I am not downloading anything. And yet something is eating space in my computer!
    Any thoughts on what I can do?

    Download from the Internet OmniDiskSweeper (frew) and open it.  It will show you all of your files and the respective sizes.  Compare the totals with what you find in Disk Utility.
    Open Activity Monitor and examine what applications are open and see if that gives you a clue what may be transpiring.
    Ciao.

    Contacts went missing on iPhone 4s, just out of the blue.  Phone had shut down and turned back on by itself earlier in the day.

    Just sync them back from whatever program/cloud service you keep them in.

  • Mbp SSD storage is disappearing for no reason

    I have a 2015 Retina MBP 256 ssd laptop, awesome computer. The problem I have is I loaded all of my pictures and music from my devices which totaled about 55GB about 2 months ago. Ive been noticing that I am now up to 62GB used up on my SSD without adding any pictures or music. I've removed all duplicate photos, clean out my e-mail junk & trash, Messages.   Do you guys think there I any LOG file growing or cache's that could cause this issue?

    When you have a storage problem, download from the Internet OmniDiskSweeper and Grand Perspective (both free) and open them.  They will show all of your files and the respective sizes.  Excellent forensic tools.
    Ciao.

  • Can I use Hot Corners to make the display sleep immediately?

    I have Hot Corners set up so that the screen-saver kicks in as soon as I move the mouse to the top-right corner. However, I'd really like to be able to make the display sleep immediately, rather than show the screen-saver first... can I do that? There doesn't seem to be a Hot Corners option for "Display sleep".

    Hi Garth
    That can be set using expose.
    Open up preferences /dashboard & expose.
    Click on one of the buttons to set your option to start screen saver by choosing the corner you wish to use.

    Open the Mac App Store on the other Mac and in the Quick Links sign into your account. See if the Mountain Lion purchase is among hidden apps in the iCloud area of your account info.
